Post Office

The Post Office is as pristine as can be, and the Postman greets you with a cheerful, toothy smile. "Hey howdy, neighbor!" he chirps (and is it just you, ladies, or is he eying you up and down?) "Good to see you, good to see you! How's the family? Great, great! Here's your package, and- oh, gosh, I nearly forgot, there's a tiiiiny little processing fee- if you'd be so good as to sign on this dotted line..."

He hands you a sheet of paper, most of it covered in meaningless addresses and stamps. There's just enough room for you to sign your name and claim your package... if you so choose.

---

And choose you will! For unlike the free regain packages that arrive at your house after most events, packages claimed from the Post Office come with a price. In order to claim their regain, characters will need to give up something in exchange! Upon signing on the dotted line, your character will instantly lose one of the following, to be chosen by the player:

Body parts. Eyes, ears limbs, organs; the Mailman is not picky about what he receives. What does he do with them? You don't know, and you're not entirely certain you want to. Upon your signing, the sacrificed body part disappears immediately and violently, bleeding out as if it had just been surgically (or perhaps not-so-surgically) removed. If the character dies from their wound, they will awaken with it healed the next morning, but the affected body part still missing. (For example, if a character loses an arm and dies before receiving treatment, they will awaken the next morning to find their arm stump fully healed and no longer bleeding, but the arm itself still gone.) Lost body parts that will always be fatal (the heart, brain, major organs, etc.) are not considered viable sacrifices. If the character is regaining some kind of regeneration ability and sacrifices a body part to get it, the regained ability will not allow them to regenerate that specific body part. Similarly, dying and coming back from the dead will not restore sacrificed body parts.

For body parts, the importance of the lost body part corresponds to the importance of the regain. Things like hair, kidneys, or digits will only be allowed for smaller, less important regains (mementos from home, clothing, minor powers), while major regains (powerful items or abilities, mainly) will necessitate the loss of important organs or limbs. We trust you to judge what's minor and what's major, but if we feel that your character isn't sacrificing enough for the desired regain, you may be asked to sacrifice more. (Trying to sacrifice your character's nose hair in exchange for the ability to bend reality to their will is not going to fly.)

Memories. You can give up a memory or series of memories in order to claim a regain! Memories must sacrificed in increments of time. A character could sacrifice their memory of everything that happened between the ages of 6 to 12, or everything that happened between a certain span of months; they could not, however, sacrifice memories such as "my parents" or "how to whistle". These lost amounts of time are "filled in" with false memories of the character's life in Mayfield for an equivalent amount of time. For example, if Tim McGenericcharacter forgets the eight months that he and his friends spent saving the world from a demon monster, he will instead find that memory replaced with eight months spent in Mayfield playing baseball, going to school and eating his assigned mother's home cooking.

As with body parts, the importance of the regain will correspond to the importance of the lost memory. This can get pretty nebulous: years' worth of time will generally be worth more than months or weeks, but Those Weeks My Friends And I Spent Saving The World will be worth a lot more than That Year I Spent Learning To Juggle In Cabo. Again, we typically trust you guys to decide what's a fair sacrifice, but if we feel you're not giving up enough in exchange for the desired regain, we'll request more before we can give it to you.

Regains. Characters can give up regains already received in order to obtain a new regain! If you've grown tired of a character having one regain and wish to exchange it for another, this is the option for you. Pretty simple stuff!

Regains obtained from events are pretty much good to be exchanged for anything; you were able to pick whatever regain you wanted back then, so we don't really have a problem with you trading it in for something different now. Regains obtained from the two Post Office methods detailed above, however, will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Giving up your nose hair in exchange for a photo of your pet squirrel and then trying to exchange said photo for the power of omniscience isn't going to work, for example. If you're using this method to exchange one regain for another, make sure you specify how the regain you're trading in was obtained.

---

You may use the Post Office to trade in for a regain once every two weeks. Characters, unless already tipped off by a character who's already experienced the process, will not know that they are about to sacrifice something. In your comment, please OOCly specify what you would like your character to lose (you can do this in brackets/parentheses/small text at the bottom of the comment, however you like); however, try to make it a big or small enough loss to be appropriate to the power of the regain. This is the honor system, but we'll let you know if the loss is too small for the regain.

If you're regretting the trade you've performed, no worries! You can reverse the trade whenever you want, just comment here. The regain will be taken away, but your sacrificed memory/body part/regain will be restored. Similarly, you can use up a post-event "free" regain to reclaim something you sacrificed here at the Post Office. We can answer any questions here, but be clear about what is OOC, as this post is primarily for IC purposes.

Upon your signing, the Postman cheerfully pats you on the back, completely ignoring the fact that you may possibly be bleeding out all over his nice marble floor, and hands you your package. If you sacrificed a body part, he's holding it. You're free to try to take it back from him! The keyword, if you may indulge us a cliché, is try.

And with a wink and a laugh, the Postman vanishes behind into a locked back room, not to be seen again until the next package recipient comes a-calling.

Due to the inevitable appearance of Len as a squishy human, sometime in the future Rin will be deliberately turning in her append frame and her regular robot frame to attain a similar squishy humanness.

In exchange for the append, she'll get this synthesizer

In exchange for her default frame, she'll get Larval Rin. God help us.

I'd like for Milla to get back her powers of Levitation/Telekinesis! These are separated in her canon in listing for keymappings and the like, since Levitation is in gameplay mechanics for your own mobility and Telekinesis is for holding or throwing things in combat. But they do seem to be pretty closely linked, as might be obvious, hence why I'm asking for both at once. (However, if it's not okay to link them, just Levitation is fine.) Since this is Milla's specialty and the power she's best at, I think it'd probably have a hefty price; she will lose both legs just below the knee in exchange.

Due to the fact that it's becoming more and more obvious the town is overrun by murderous nutcases, Haruko is going to try her luck at the post office.

What she's going to be going to get back is her Alien Body. At maximum capacity, this means she has super human strength (she's been demonstrated as being able to hit a baseball with such force as to be able to send it hurtling into orbit and to knock out a satellite), speed (she's shown she's been able to keep up with bullets to the point that she could cut them in half with a straight razor before hitting her), and endurance (she's taken outlandishly sized bullets to the face and been knocked into the ground and managed to recover). If these all together are considered too much to be one regain, or too much for the price she'll be paying, she'll only received her increased speed and finesse from her trade.

As for what she'll be losing?

She's going to lose the entirety of her memory of her time in Mabase, so essentially she'll be forgetting the events of FLCL. Depending on how long you think the series took place, this would be a timespan of a couple of months, as well as being relatively important since she'll lose the memory of the last kid she bonded with (Naota).

Bazett, upon realizing that the town is performing experiments on people, is going to check up on her allies. She has an Oh crap moment when she realizes that Lancer and Rin Tohsaka are gone and are likely inside the factory. She doesn't know where the place is and knows her best chance finding it or her allies will be her runic magic.

I forgot to mention this for her abilities in her original profiled, but Bazett knows how to do runic magic. It's an ancient type of magic invented in Scandinavia and unpopular among modern magi. Runes function like thaumaturgical crests in that they are ready-made spells. They must be inscribed directly on the thing that they are affecting, but otherwise function as a ready-made spell that does not require the complicated chants of normal spells.

For a better explanation of the runes that appeared in the canon and their uses, see here

As for what she will be giving up...she will be losing her memories of December 16-New Years Day (the entire Christmas event) as well as her memories of the day of January 17th (her date with Lancer). If that's not enough, she can also lose 3/4 of her liver and a kidney.

So it turns out that Mami is sick and tired of feeling so useless and full of DESPAIR. She'll be braving the Post Office to regain her Tiro Finale attack - which, as pictured, is the ability to summon a gigantic single-shot cannon.

The price for this will be all her memories that were involved with Charlotte: from when Madoka alerted her about the presence of the Witch Barrier up to her death, the latter of which is a deeply significant event.

Kreutzer would appreciate extra help and would like to get back enough of her power to create low-tier dolls. In exchange, she'll be giving up her memories of everything after she realizes how much of a threat her empire is, which could span anywhere from weeks to two months. They're important to Kreutzer because knowing that she succeeded in destroying her empire gave her the peace of mind to accept her death and time in Mayfield.

Twilight Sparkle desperately wants her horn back so she can use magic again. In exchange, she'll give up her right eye and all of her memories of being in Ponyville. All of them, which entails practically the entire show.

I'm not sure if a character can make multiple transactions at a time, but if possible, I'd like Reimu to make several. If not, then I would like her to trade in her memories of everything after the ninth Touhou game (which possibly span across months, but since there were several games after this one, they're meaningful memories) for her divine power, something she was born with because of her bloodline. They allow her everything that comes with a shrine maiden, including her talismans having their power back, channeling gods through her, healing magic, sealing away evil, creating magical barriers and such.

If multiple transactions are allowed, then I'd like her to trade her entire right leg for her ability to fly, her entire left leg for her treasured yin-yang orb, her danmaku (bullet pattern) abilities for left eye and her lower-level spellcards (essentially super moves for danmaku) for her left arm...but if only one transaction is possible, then just the divine power for her memories, please.

Cade will soon visit the post office to claim his sword, Frostbrand:

[Frostbrand (Artifact): Cade’s most potent magic item, the rapier Frostbrand, belonged to his mentor, Leon.  The sword is of superior weight, balance, and craftsmanship, and its enchanted edge allows it to cut through other materials as if they were half as thick and half as strong. The blue sapphire at the base of its blade has powerful winter enchantments that give the sword its most powerful properties: its cold blade can inflict frostbite on enemies and instantly extinguishes any flame it is plunged into. Anyone who carries the sword cannot be burned by fire, and once per hour it can be commanded to extinguish all flames within 30 feet.]

In exchange, I'd like him to lose his memories of every sword fighting lesson he ever had with Leon, as well as every sword fight he was ever in. Effectively, this means Cade will have no idea how to use the sword the moment he finally gets the sword.
His memories of his lessons with Leon will be replaced by false mayfield memories of school and his parents teaching him to do things like mowing the lawn, cleaning the gutters, etc. His memories of sword fighting will be replaced by false memories of doing boring things like being at work, balancing his checkbook, putting together his tax return, etc...

Cade would like to get back his Blessing of Idamra:

Blessed of Idamra
: Cade was chosen as the Blessed of Idamra, which physically manifests itself as a spade-shaped brand on his rump. The brand makes Cade a magnet for all things unlikely, both good and bad. On a broad scale, this means that Cade is dragged into many things much bigger than himself and ends up as a sort of "wrench in the works." On a smaller scale, this means that Cade is frequently involved in comic misunderstandings, and often seems to escape harm more through pure luck than any kind of skill (a good example would be this page here.).

In exchange, Cade will lose all the memories of his 16th birthday and the month immediately after. His 16th birthday was important for him. Besides the fact that 16 was the "adult" age in his culture, his mentor died that day, his father kicked him out, and he kind of had to face the world all alone without any friends or family for support for the first time, and this had a major impact on the shaping of his personality.

Given that he cherishes his gun enough to call it 'his baby' and never have it leave his person, In exchange I'd like for him to forget about the other cherished thing he had in his life: the several years he spent separated from his wife, Victoria Parker. Dissatisfied with the swap, could she then ask the Postman to take her vocal modules in exchange for a H&K38 Combat gun instead, which would have been in her storage back home?
