Important Poll

So we've recently gotten some feedback suggesting that January is seeming like a fairly long time from now to wait for endgame, and people would prefer we end the game more quickly.

We originally chose January because ending the game in December would be impossible; because of exams and the holidays, Thanksgiving through the end of December tends to be a really difficult time for mods and players. We talked it over and we could conceivably end the game by early November. If we didn't wrap up in early November, we'd end the game in January.

We won't make a decision on this one way or another without player feedback, since we did give January as a wrap-up time and don't want to change that without hearing what the general playerbase feels about it.

Some considerations:

* Either way, there will be one more app cycle. Currently, that cycle is schedule to begin October 5th. If we decided to end in November, we would likely bump it up and start September 28th.

* As we've said before, there will be a Mayfield musebox set up once the game ends. I can't tell you what that will look like (an AU set in Mayfield? Or something different?), but I can tell you you'll be able to continue playing your characters there if you choose, but it will be mostly unmoderated.

* We definitely acknowledge we got in over our heads with NPC threading this event; other events will probably be less NPC intensive. But we also will continue to operate on a slower schedule than we have in the past; that's just the reality of the situation.

THE POLL IS OVER AT THIS JOURNAL, DUE TO THIS ACCOUNT NOT BEING ABLE TO CREATE POLLS

Thank you! We will take questions and comments in the post.

Honestly, I think the January date is still fine (speaking personally, I guess), but the overriding problem lately has been with trying to run events that are just too ambitious for what the mods seem to have the time or energy to keep up with. There have been plenty of fun and engaging events that have gotten the entire community motivated that really didn't seem to require a whole lot of mod work past the initial processing of sign-ups and such, like the past few years' Christmas events. I think if whatever events were to happen between now and a January end date could run more like those, that would eliminate a good half or more of the player frustration by itself.

I just want to chime in that I agree with the above in general, though I also know sometimes folks can be impatient or over-reaching.

Either way, I'd prefer January as well, instead of trying to move things up. I'll be good with whatever everyone else wants though.

Also, I assume the poll is one per player, yes? Not character?

Personally, November seems too soon a deadline, especially for those of us who have been planning development with January in mind already.

Honestly, I think it seems a little short notice to move it to November.. If you're going to move it forward, I'd say it'd be better moved to December at this point. (Also, if the vote stays close, it'd make a nice compromise point.)

It won't be December! Like I said above, we talked about it and December is just impossible for us as an end time, considering how busy everyone will be that month with exams and the holidays and stuff. Plus it would be pretty inconvenient for a lot of players here, too, I imagine.

One question: How long will players have to decide before the poll is closed and the results considered?

We're not sure! The current plan is to just watch when it seems like voting is dying out, and then if it's still close, put up an announcement that 24 hours are left.

So...it will be within the week and if the outcomes are within 15 votes of each other, you'll get 24 hours warning before we close the poll.

Awesome. Thanks very much.
