Abilities: Isara is a notable mechanic and inventor in her world – by the time of her death, she’s developed two inventions that more or less change the course of the war. The first is the smoke bomb tank round, generally considered to have been vital to the taking of Marberry Shore. The second was completed after her death, although enough of the work and instruction was taken on by Isara that the plane was named the “Isara Biplane” for her. It became the seed of Gallia’s aeronautics industry, and remained its only effective airplane into the events of Valkyria Chronicles 2. That is her main skill.
The other skill she’d probably have as a Darcsen (needlepoint, sewing, and embroidery) I’m thinking won’t be affected on her arrival. Darcsens can be identified by their distinctly patterned shawls as well as by their dark hair –maintenance of the shawl would require basic sewing skills, and ability to make clothes and patterns for oneself would be an important skill in Darcsen culture. On the other hand, a Darcsen will almost never be seen without their shawl, and make worry dolls for themselves and their loved ones. Isara is no exception, despite her altered circumstances. Since this ability is so tied back to her culture and world, would it be affected? Isara will take the first opportunity to make herself a new shawl. Due to her education and skills, Isara is a corporal in the Gallian Militia. Due to the military education that is compulsory for every citizen of Gallia, she has also received training in military combat and warfare, and can probably demonstrate at least a rudimentary knowledge of tactics and the mechanics surrounding warfare. Isara is never seen to fire a gun in the game, and in fact is never playable as a unit outside the Edelweiss. However, some knowledge of firearms would have been required of her to pass her schooling. In Valkyria Chronicles 2, Isara as an unlockable character is an Armor Tech. This unit’s chief function is to soak interception fire with their tower shields, and their heavy war hammers are super effective against infantry. This implies that Isara is likely quite physically powerful.
Sample Entry: Every morning, I have to haul a pile of parts home in the basket of my bike. My “parents” don’t think I’m responsible enough for a car. They probably think that because I keep bringing home a pile of auto parts in the basket of my bike.
If they got wind of how I kept getting these parts, I’d be droned in a second, and they might never let me change back. And I won’t say that doesn’t scare me. I’ve been droned before, and…it’s sickening. Maybe not there and then, but looking back, looking around and seeing how scared everyone is for me or how disgusted they are of me? That’s the worst punishment of all.
I know for a fact that a drone can’t fly an airplane – or at least, not a female one. Maybe I can get this plane built on my own, no matter how long it takes. But I can’t get us out of here with it alone. I need help. But whatever they do to punish me, whatever they throw at me, however badly they tear this town apart, I will not stop. I will escape. Welkin needs me. These people are not my family, this is not my home, and he is not my brother.
I put the brakes on my bike, wheel it the rest of the way up the lawn, and skip the front door entirely. Instead, I bring it around to the back yard, towards the tool shed. “Dad” mows the lawn once a week, but even he doesn’t mind me bringing the lawnmower to him from the shed. I guess he doesn’t think it’s any different than me bringing him some coffee.
Which, for once, is a very good thing. If he saw what I’d been putting together inside this shed, I’d be droned for the rest of my life.
