(continued from the section on Fuuto and his pride as a Rider):
Seeing a person stretched to their limits of despair really sets Shoutaro off, often going to extreme lengths to either prevent or stop this. An example of this would be when he attempts to stop the Weather Dopant, who was responsible for killing Terui's family. when Terui is unable to do so, and attempts a life-threatening Double Maximum drive attack to do so.
Shoutaro is a wannabie-ladies man, going to extreme lengths to impress a pretty face, even when it flies in the face of his hard-boiled image (like showing off a secret cat-finding skill, which requires him to meow loudly and openly in public).
When he's not putting on his hard-boiled facade, likely around people he's very close to, he's very relaxed, and will be more likely to react naturally (at least for him) to what's going on around him, often taking things rather animated.
Shoutaro held Sokichi in the highest regard, feeling he was the epitome of men, and how men should act. This, and how Sokichi died are major factors in why he holds his facade in the limelight as he does (though his is more exaggerated than Sokichi's very natural hard-boiledness). This is also the reason that, despite annoying him greatly at times, he tries his best to shield Akiko from the dangers all around them. But now, he's mostly given up that position to her husband Terui, furthering the trust he has in his friend.
While he will treat anyone he's become close to as part of his extended family (and information network when his partner cannot find the information), Phillip is the closest of them all. He treats him as not only his partner (in both detective and Rider), but more of a little brother, whether its being annoyed when he mocks him, getting physical when he's ticked off at him, or protecting him from dangers (including him vanishing from all existence).
New sample:
[Shotaro is sitting at his makeshift desk, in the makeshift office he's managed to cobble together out of the various bits of the living room. The sign's now hung, and all he has to do is wait. After quite a long while of browsing the very limited library in the house, and trying to make coffee, he hears a knock at the door. Specifically the one he'd set up.]
*ahem* Come in!
[He sits down, back turned to the door, slipping his fedora down slightly over his face, trying to keep the atmosphere. These 50's type people might just eat this stuff up.]
Welcome. I...have no assistant to offer you coffee, but there is a pot on the des...erm...coffee table here that you can serve yourself with. Whenever you're ready, I'll hear your case.
[He is solely wanting a swivel chair at this moment, because he has to embarrassingly hop the chair around to face his potential client. He doesn't see anyone in the field of vision he was expecting.]
Huh? I know I heard the door open and shut...
{Mister?}
[Shoutaro blinks and looks down, spotting a small child. He is a bit visibly taken aback.]
Ah...I wasn't expecting you to be so...young. Shouldn't you be at school?
[He's trying hard to keep his image in-check, but this has thrown him a bit.]
{School's out for today. Your sign says you're a detective, right?}
I see...
[He checks the clock. It's past 3 already...]
I must've lost track of time. And yes, little one..I am a detective. What can I do for you today?
[He has a baaaaaaaad feeling about this....]
{My kitty mister...he's gone. Can you find him for me? I...I only have this much. I know detectives get paid...}
[The drone child puts a small piggybank onto the table. Shoutaro scratches his head. He HATES this kind of work usually...but...the kid looks on the verge of tears. He grins a bit, and places a hand on their head.]
This place...will soon be my garden. I'll find your cat for you.
