Background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ky%C5%8Dran_Kazoku_Nikki

Personality: Kyouka is arrogant, selfish, destructive, whimsical, demanding and more than a little strange – exactly what one would expect from a super-powered idol who was raised as the Child of Enka, the monster than almost wiped out humanity 1000 years ago, and worshipped underground as a goddess in the empire of Shangri-La. Capricious and self-absorbed, Kyouka tends to think less about what’s logical or reasonable and more about what sounds like the most fun to her. She wholeheartedly believes that there is no enemy she can’t defeat and no ally who shouldn’t bow down before her. Loud, with no regard for personal property or personal space, Kyouka is quick to respond with violence even against those who offered none. Childish, prone to complaining, pouting, tantrums or subversion to get what she wants, she’s more like a bratty child than any of the children she’s raising.

Much of this can be attributed to her upbringing or as a reaction against it. A lot of her selfishness and wanting to be pampered and spoiled is both because she was brought up in such a seat of luxury but also because she is used to being the one other rely on and come to for things; as a god of her people, the citizens constantly saw her as a deity to ask favors of and not an actual person. This actually causes Kyouka to have a deeply buried insecurity of her own identity and role in life – she has no memories of her life before she arrived in Shangri-La 20 years ago, or of when she was the demon queen Vanessa. She doesn’t even know whose body it is she’s possessing. Along with the possibility that she might be the actual Child of Enka who will destroy the world, she is not always as self-assured and confident as her constant claims of omniscience and omnipotence make her out to be, and likes to be reassured and praised by those close to her.

Not to say how she acts is a front. Kyouka is indeed headstrong, tending to charge into things with half-baked or completely absurd plans. Her greed is such that she’d interrupt the epic battle between a pirate captain and the first mate who betrayed her to try and steal the treasure the captain’s father left her to inherit. But she’s also extremely caring and protective of her family, and has a strong sense of justice with no sense of limits or intimidation, going after anyone who she thinks is in the wrong… or happens to be between her and something she wants. Even though Operation Cozy Family is just a group of people thrown together to pretend to be a family, she takes her duties as the wife rather seriously and really does her best to care for (in her own fashion) her children and love (however ineptly) her husband. For those or really, anyone who she’s decided to rescue, she’ll go to any length, be it declaring war on one of the most influential mafia families in the country, enacting some terrible sentai-like action scene to deceive school children into thinking her daughter’s a transforming robot hero, kidnapping senior citizens to test potentially deadly cooking on, or punching out an imposter Santa Claus in rooftop fisticuffs.

She can actually be pretty thoughtful – she’s the one who remembers their anniversary, and learns all the file information on their children before Ouka, the more responsible one, does. She cares a lot about her family and what she considers to be family values, like finding it completely unforgivable that Ouka would point a gun at their son… even if their son is a biological weapon that was threatening to kill him. That said, her idea of family harmony is more like a tyranny, with herself at the top. Disobedience requires firm (re: violent) discipline and possibly groveling for forgiveness. Still, for all the abuse she gives them, she’ll give a million times worse to any who would try to take them from her or harm them.

Despite how violent she acts or omnipotent and omniscient she claims to be, Kyouka’s also surprisingly innocent when it comes to romance. She’s actually genuinely fond of Ouka despite how badly she treats him, and easily gets jealous to a ridiculous extent when she hears he’s going on “dates” with another woman. She also seems to derive much of her idea of how a relationship should go from watching anime and romance dramas on TV, and finds clichéd scenarios to be extremely attractive and want to act them out – or some crazed variation of them. She blushes at the thought of getting even just a kiss on the forehead, doesn’t usually sleep in the same bed as him and apparently, even after being “married” for a year, hasn’t been kissed on the lips. She also wanted to go through a whole actual marriage ceremony with a big party even after they were married. And because of how she was raised, she’s apparently also ignorant of many other things, like not knowing what Christmas was until it was almost upon them.

And then there’s just Kyouka’s plain eccentricity. She likes to live her life as a god, a tyrant, and the main character of some kind of nonsense manga all at once – a vacation should include a hijacking option with a planned crash landing at a deserted island; a trip to the zoo includes having to find all the members of the family in different animal pens – after she put them there on purpose. She renames people without their permission – all butlers in white suit are Pierre; she even writes it on the back of his/her suit. To her, a super-influential and wealthy mafia family is just “a bunch of lowly animals with a lot of pieces of paper with 10,000 yen written on them” – lowly animals are still lowly animals. Her idea to help her son come to terms with his budding first love? Turn it into a confession game show, practicing different confession reactions from “kiss from being ecstatic” to “secretly an assassin that kills anyone who says they love her”, and then inviting the very person he’s in love with to participate. Her response to her husband forgetting their anniversary is to become a magical girl and use the power of love to punish him.

Basically, Kyouka is a crazy, headstrong, caring yet selfish, loving but abusive, childlike and godlike being with no regard for rules or common sense.

Abilities: Kyouka has a group of telepathically based abilities she calls “Cell Phone”, which lets her do things like send telepathic messages (calling), take control of them for short periods of time (mail) or temporarily disable their central nervous system (hacking). She can also use it to locate people, vaguely based on their force of personality, and otherwise mess with someone’s senses (such as causing them to perceive green as red) and generally screw with their head. Also, because she is originally a demon soul that possesses bodies, she can leave her own body and more fully possess others and gain full control of them, including unlocking hidden potentials that are normally restrained (re: the ol “humans only use 5% of their brain/X% of their actual muscle power blah blah blah” thing). She can also create and control miniature versions of herself that function more or less autonomously. Besides that, she’s also super strong and super fast, able to kick through walls, survive massive damage, jump between buildings with ease, dodge lasers and bullets and wrestle Santa Claus.

Sample Entry:

[The phone clicks on to what sounds to be crazed laughter. Possibly from a small child.]

Nyahahahaha! Nyahaha!

Alright, you pigs, listen up! Today, your gray and lackluster lives come to an end! Die, fall over, crumble into ruin and rise up like the phoenix in a glorious rebirth for today is the day you truly start living! Rejoice, for the absolute and unique goddess is now among you! If you touch your head to the floor three times and call my name, I might find you worthy of saving.

Mayfield? Drones? Brainwashing, messing with the time space continuum, being told to make a cozy family? This is barely even anything new to a god like me! I feel at home already, you’ll have to do better than that if you want to get the best of me; as a wonderful fact, I, Kyouka-sama, am omnipotent and omniscient! You’ll at least have to send in an alien warship and eighty-four cyborg battalions before you’re ready to take me on!

[And then the imperious, demanding proclamation suddenly sounds like a shy schoolgirl talking about their new boyfriend]

Oh, ah, and if one has seen my darling Ouka~ He’s a really boringly mediocre four-eyes with red hair and pretty common kind of depressing history, please send him my way~

[And then she’s back to speaking at a million miles per hour again]

Or any of the rest of the Midarezaki family, containing one simple girl, one older sister, one jellyfish, one lion, one biological weapon and one crossdresser! They respond to Yuuka, Chika, Gekka, Teika, Hyouka and Ginka respectively! Of course, if any of you are hearing this, report immediately here, your mother is calling! In fact, why aren’t you here already? The speed of sound should at the least by the speed of anyone who dares call themselves Midarezaki! I’m expecting you at least five minutes ago! Last one here is a dog for a week, so make sure you get here before Ouka does.

Ready? Set, go! Let the party begin!

[And she hangs up the phone like phone-slamming is an Olympic sport and she’s going for the gold medal]
