Personality:
Despite the fact that he, as a soldier, should be serious in character, Hyuuga is both a very cheerful man and something of a ditz. He sees the world as a big game. He is most often all smiles and flowers and hearts, and he is happy most of the time. This is the case even in life-threatening situations, because he likes the thrill of fighting. He is a person called frivolous, and he never seem to take things seriously. He also have a very short attention span, and easily get offtrack. He is easily excited and distracted by new things. He even interrupts important conversations, as shown during a conversation about the Eye of Mikhail when he spot a bird outside the window. He even forget his paperwork after seeing a new stamp. He is playful, and love to tease people. He delights in winding them all up. This most of all concerns Ayanami, whom he think should relax more.
He love to pull pranks, as he is very mischievous, and the pranks are most often directed towards his subordinate Konatsu. He is a very clingy person, most of all to his superior Ayanami, who's well-being is very important to him. He cares a lot about his friends in the Black Hawks, and then, most of all for Ayanami, for whom he act like a bodyguard. He always try to cheer him up, but Ayanami always seem to get angry instead.
He is seen as over-friendly, and although his intentions are well-meant, he often annoy people with these antics. He has zero sense of personal space.
He enjoy meeting new people, and has recruited several of the members of the Black Hawks; even calling the Antwort Twins 'Souvenirs' when he brought them along from the battle at Antwort.
He is curious by nature, and he is the only one who dares to inquire or question Ayanami's schemes.

He is sadistic, but not to the extent of his dear Aya-tan. He has been seen humiliating superiors, in a seemingly innocent way. However innocent it is to cut off peoples pants with a sword. It was their own fault, though, as they insulted Ayanami in front of Hyuuga. Hyuuga does not take lightly upon that, even if Ayanami don't seem to really care.
He is skilled with the sword and has no hesitations to cut down anyone he considers a threat, and his smiling face can seem quite sinister during battle. Although he cares a great deal about the people important to him, he views human life with a cold indifference and kill those on his own side if they're in the way.
He is also somewhat masochistic, or else he wouldn't purposefully cross Ayanami's lines as much as he does. He is cheeky, and this is shown for his lack of respect for people of higher rank than him.
Though most of all, he is either stupid or naïve. He buys a 'magic pot' for a huge amount of money because he believe that it will make Ayanami less strict. He still wonders if the pot will work after he finds out that it was worth only 2'500 yen. He even considers finding the man who sold it to ask if it still works. That idiocy might just well be a facade, however, since if he set his mind to it, he can finish his paperwork in less than an hour; which he did to get Ayanami to agree on going to onsen with them all. He say that if he's really serious, he can do it.

He hate paperwork. When he sees it, he gets either sleepy or want to chop someone up, which also shows that he can be a bit unstable. He usually push the paperwork onto Konatsu. He even doodles on important documents that is in need of being signed. He prefers to sit around doing nothing instead of working.
He has trouble waking up in the mornings, and is sometimes late for work because of this. And he often yawns, as he get bored with things quickly.
He also say that Konatsu is cool when he is doing paperwork (but even cooler when he fights).

On the other hand, he absolutely love sweets. He is often seen eating something sweet, like candied apples, lollipops and such things. He has offered his candied apples to Ayanami, too, when he feel that his superior need to be cheered up. Never mind that he had already started eating it, and that he had had the apple in his mouth.

Despite everything, he is a very loyal person. Most of all to his superior Ayanami, who he always call 'Aya-tan'. Hyuuga is the only one who has the courage (or is insane enough) to call Ayanami anything besides his title of 'Chief of Staff Ayanami'. He give affectionate names for people that he like, and he easily get attached to new people that interest him. He absolutely loves Ayanami, and is willing to die for him. He is even willing to give him his soul. He has sworn to protect Ayanami as long as he lives. He also think that he can't die as long as he need to protect Aya-tan, because Ayanami just is that precious to him. He has stated that he 'will do anything for Aya-tan'.
