Character Name: Len Kagamine Character Series: Vocaloid Character Age: Four years chronological, roughly 14-18 apparent Background:Vocaloid on Wikipedia
Len forms a unit with his counterpart Rin Kagamine; they have the same voice provider, and are sold as one product. Opinions vary on whether they are meant to be siblings, mirror images, or both, but the bottom line is that Rin and Len go together.
As a character, Len's history more or less corresponds to the actual development of Vocaloid, but operating under the conceit that he is an actual, autonomous robot rather than a piece of software. He lives with the other Crypton-created Vocaloids when not singing or working with producers.
Personality: As a Vocaloid, Len's purpose in life is to sing - and Len is perfectly fine with that. He enjoys singing, and really enjoys having fans. It's fair to say he has a bit of an ego: he's very proud of himself, his singing ability, and his popularity. However, he's very sensitive to anything that damages his pride. Some things he can shrug off, like criticism of his voice, but secretly he's very self-conscious about his sound and if he has an off day, or works with a producer who doesn't really know how to handle him, he can get himself into a real snit about it, while blaming everyone and everything except himself. It's not his fault if he sounds bad - it's these lousy producers ruining his cool image! Worst of all, of course, is being referred to as a "shota". Len is a man, and he will thank you to remember that. Len's baseline temperament is fairly low-key, however, and it has to be a fairly serious insult to really get him riled. Otherwise, he's more inclined to whine, grumble, and go off to sulk alone.
He's not all tantrums and moping, though. When his pride isn't being stung, he's generally upbeat and interested in the world around him. It's not as obvious since he spends so much time with the more extroverted Rin, but he's energetic and excitable, and has an irrepressible love of life. His interest in music goes beyond just the singing he was designed for - one of his signature items is a Vocaloid-branded keytar, which he often performs with. He also has real affection and loyalty for his fans; he deeply appreciates their interest, and in turn does his best to please them. Anyone who does Len a good turn will not soon be forgotten. At his best, Len can be gentle and sympathetic, and is willing to help out if someone needs it, particularly if they're family, friends, or fans. Of course, everyone else comes second to him and Rin. He's not so much self-centered as Kagamine-centered: as far as he's concerned, he and Rin are the core of the universe and the best Vocaloids out there. As long as he can sing, and be heard, and be with Rin, Len is happy.
Rin is the absolute center of the world to Len. She understands him better than anyone else, and he understands her. The two of them operate on their own wavelength, and Rin is the only one who can really get away with giving Len a hard time. He tends to fall into a more passive role when he's with her, allowing her to take the lead and drag him along in whatever she decides to do. This is in small part because he knows her temper, but mostly because he trusts her, and is comfortable with leaving things up to her. Without Rin, Len feels incomplete; with her, he can take on the world.
As far as the other Vocaloids are concerned, Len has the most affection for his and Rin's fellow Crypton releases: Meiko, Kaito, Miku, and Luka. These four he regards as beloved, if sometimes exasperating, older siblings (despite Luka technically being younger). This is even true for Miku, whose runaway success Len is envious of, and who he also sees as a rival to be overcome. Outside of the Crypton "family", Len's interest in the other Vocaloids becomes increasingly distant, considering them as something like half-known cousins. He does, ultimately, love his Vocaloid family... but good luck getting him to admit it out loud.
Abilities: Len is an android designed to be an idol singer. In addition to being convincingly humanlike, his body is outfitted with a speaker system and sophisticated audio controls, as well as considerable storage space for music files.

He's also got a pretty cool keytar.
