Character Age: 20-something

Background: Wikipedia

Personality:
It would be easy to write Kono off as the rookie of her team and as the "token woman," but that would be selling her way short. Kono is independent, capable, smart, loyal, and caring.

A native Hawaiian, Kono has been surfing since she was young. She even went pro when she was fifteen until she blew out her knee. For Kono, surfing is her connection to the world around her, and it's a passion as much as it is a stress-reliever and a way of life. After blowing out her knee and the subsequent rehab, Kono rededicated her life to joining the "family business" - law enforcement.

She was drafted straight out of the academy to join the governor's special task force, Five-0, to help rid Hawaii of major crime. Law enforcement is a good fit for Kono, since she's very good at kicking ass and taking names. Kono has rescued herself from the trunk of a car, is efficient and deadly with a sniper rifle, regularly chases down suspects and kicks them, and has even fought off a Serbian gangster and an assassin in the line of duty (though not at the same time). She's also smart, and a whiz with technology. She tends to be the team's second-go-to for running tests and things through the different crime labs. Kono has built a lot of the evidence in the cases, which others on her team build upon. She takes her job very seriously, and is very hard on herself when she makes a mistake. She's starting to take after her boss, Steve, meaning that the ends justify the means. This does come back to haunt her when she temporarily loses her badge by bending the rules, which actually turned out to be an undercover assignment to take down a dirty cop. Why she agreed to the situation leads into her next personality trait.

Kono's fiercely loyal to those around her, especially her cousin Chin Ho Kelly. The entire police department suspected Chin of being corrupt, which led to him being dismissed from the force. Kono, however, defended him even when the rest of their family wrote him off as being dirty. No matter how much evidence piled up against Chin, she wasn't willing to buy it. Kono's also shown her loyalty to the other members on her team, in part by taking the before mentioned undercover assignment to protect the rest of Five-0 and by traveling to Korea to save her boss. She protects those close to her.

Kono is extremely compassionate and does well with children. Often she is the one left to talk with child witnesses during cases, which she once quipped was because she was the woman on the team (Danny replied it was because she was the rookie, which was way worse). While she does take her work very seriously, she also has a mischevious side. In high school she was busted for underage drinking and night surfing, and she once sent a suspect a dirty text posing a stripper. Kono is definitely not all work and no play, but the work is important.

She'll be pulled from the end of season 2, where her fate hangs in the balance after she's been kicked into the water while being bound. Waking up in Mayfield (again) will be quite jarring for her.

Abilities: surfing, roundhouse kicks, firearms (especially sniper rifles)

Is there anybody out there with a bathing suit that doesn't cover from neck to knee? I feel ridiculous in this thing, and it's hot enough that I want to swim. Even if I have to swim in chlorine.

Although, thinking about it, a pair of panties and a bra is kind of like a bathing suit, right?
