Character Name: King Julien XIII Character Series: Madagascar franchise, with a focus on The Penguins of Madagascar Character Age: ...N/A? Background: Julien takes a minor role firsttwo Madagascar films, with a subplot in a Christmas special that takes place between the two movies.
His major role is in the television series, which is, according to creators, an alternate plotline for the Madagascar franchise, presumably stemming off after the second film. There have been threeseasonsso far, but there is only so much continuity in the series. Mainly, for our purposes, it gives more of a look at Julien's character, while also setting up a habitat from him where he isn't followed blindly as a king.
Personality: Julien is most easily defined by negative traits, mostly those related to pride. Pride is definitely Julien's sin, and he is incredibly narcissistic in that he, generally, puts himself above all others and believes no one can reach his levels of greatness. Whatever the trait, if Julien decides it is one he wants to have, he will think of himself as the ultimate bearer of said trait. He frequently will talk about how he is the best; how he is the king and that gives him superiority in every sense. He expects others to let him boss them around and can't function without that. (More on this inability to function later.) Julien is also spoiled rotten, and rarely does things for himself. He generally orders Maurice and Mort to do things for him, and his selfishness shows here, as well; he will force them to do dangerous things to get what he wants, because he believes he should have everything at any cost.
Julien is dynamic and highly emotional. He's a party animal by nature, often spending all night dancing. He will celebrate the smallest of things, and, on the other end of the spectrum, he is a wrathful and impulsive ruler, punishing his two subjects in ways that aren't equivalent to their actions. For example, the accidental breaking of his throne leads to him banishing Mort and Maurice from his presence. On the note of his dynamic nature, Julien is incredibly flirtatious, and can act this way with almost every other animal (or object - he tried to woo a smoothie once) he comes in contact with, no matter how much mutual contempt there is in the situation.
Continuing on the 'highly-emotional' note... Julien is incredibly needy of and dependent on his friends, especially Maurice and Mort. He is prone to breakdowns when he loses them, starting up heated arguments with stuffed animals when they are having fun without him. Breakdowns in general are common with Julien; when he lost his crown, he was brought down to a listless, despairing little thing. So yes, as seen by these examples, his breakdowns range from depression to bouts of crazy... Not that Julien isn't already a bit cooky; he always seems to have his head in his own little world, with a strange idea of how things work.
Ultimately, however, Julien will always come around and do the right thing. He has morals deep down and will put in the work to save the day from, say, a revenge-seeking dolphin. He also, deep down, cares about his friends and just wants to be with them. When he and Rico become close friends, he is jealous when Rico talks about spending time with the other penguins, and when Maurice is supposedly close to death, Julien does all he can to make his friend's last day the very best... Of course, it is Julien's idea of the very best day, not Maurice's, because -- to bring things full circle -- Julien's mind is always on Julien in one way or another. As he once said himself, "Nobody loves me... The way I love me!"
Abilities: He is highly acrobatic and generally in good physical shape. He's a dancer and a tree-climber. Nothing out of the ordinary, though.

Hello, Mayfield-y people! It is, your king!
I am most unhappy with you all, my Mayfield-y subjects! I have learned that before I came, there was a prom! Now, uh, I do not know what that is, but I am hearing it has a king, which of course should have been me. I mean, really, who better a king for your promming than your king for everything else?
But I was not your promming king, because you were all having prom without me! You should have waited for me!
I will be thinking up an appropriate punishment. Goodbye until then!
