Character Name: Kay Faraday (AKA Great Thief Yatagarasu) Character Series: Ace Attorney Investigations Character Age: 18
Background: Kay Faraday is the daughter of Byrne Faraday, previously a fairly famous prosecutor until his untimely death. Faraday was involved quite heavily with cases involving a smuggling ring as well as concerning an enigmatic phantom thief called the Yatagarasu. His death came near the conclusion of a trial in which he nearly had the Yatagarasu cornered, but the witness on the stand accused him of being the thief, and the trial was suspended while a new prosecutor was assigned. In the interim, he and the witness were killed by the defense attorney assigned to the case, a woman named Calisto Yew, who also claimed to be the real Yatagarasu.
This was also the day Kay met Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth for the first time. He was assigned as the replacement prosecutor for the case, which never ended up happening, as Yew was fingered as the killer before the trial had the chance to reconvene. Kay met Edgeworth as he was looking around the courtroom for clues as to who had murdered her father. Kay was crushed by the death of her father, but at the same time managed to form a close friendship with Edgeworth, Detective Gumshoe, and Franziska von Karma, all of whom were present for the events of that day.
Ten years passed between that case and the next time Edgeworth saw Kay. In the meantime, she had discovered that her father was actually the Yatagarasu - a claim that was backed up by a device in his possession that was left to her after his death, as well as extensive notes on his activities as the thief. She called the device "Little Thief," a small projector with the ability to create realistic life-sized holograms of any area as long as its user is able to input accurate data about what the scene looks like. She met back up with Edgeworth at an amusement park, where the prosecutor had been taken hostage. She helped him escape and to solve the case, going on to become his sidekick in the case that would put the mystery of the Yatagarasu to rest for good.
Edgeworth and Kay parted ways after that case, but the two promised to remain friends, and Kay decided she would continue to use her talents and knowledge as the Yatagarasu to steal only the truth and bring down corruption anywhere it happened to reveal its ugly head. She did so out of respect for both her dead father, as well as her new friend the noble prosecutor.
Personality: Kay is a spunky girl with a strong independent streak and a bit of a temper. She makes friends very easily, due to her honest and open personality (it only took about a 5 minute conversation with Gumshoe before the two were sharing swiss rolls). She prefers to act first and ask questions later, which often conflicts with Edgeworth's calm and collected way of investigating cases step by step and with logic. She bills herself as a "Great Thief," but it honestly seems more like what she really wants to be is a ninja, as she is constantly sneaking about, jumping through windows, and generally behaving more like a character from a movie than an actual thief.
Despite actively billing herself as the Yatagarasu, Kay has a very strong sense of justice, perhaps imparted to her by the lessons of her prosecutor father. He taught her lots of things about how to deal with people and when to be careful, and she has taken all of these lessons to heart during her development into a young lady. She even still has the father/daughter journal the two kept together, with all of his "rules" for how she should behave on her own. She believes whole-heartedly that her father's mission was one worthy of respect, and wants to fight corruption and evil from the shadows.
Underneath all of her (semi-)secretive activities as the Yatagarasu, Kay is very much a normal teenage girl. She loves amusement parks, shopping, clothes, music, and is a big fan of all sorts of pop culture icons. She is especially fond of the Blue Badger family and the Jammin' Ninja, and seems to hold some sort of grudging respect for the Steel Samurai, despite the fact that he is a hero of justice who hunts down criminals, villains, and thieves like herself.
Kay's best quality is that she never gives up, no matter the odds. Even after finding out that her father was involved in some shady dealings, she never stopped believing in the man who raised her. She cheered Edgeworth and Franziska on when their investigations hit dead ends and seemed truly hopeless. She always encourages Detective Gumshoe, no matter how badly he screws up. All in all, she is just as full of hope and passion as she is spunk and confidence, and she seems to have an odd way of instilling these qualities in everyone she meets.
Abilities: Kay has no supernatural abilities of her own. She is an athletic teenage girl who has clearly trained for years to live up to her father's legacy, but all of that is simply the result of hard work on her part. The only thing she owns that borders on supernatural capability is Little Thief.
Sample Entry: Anything over here. She will be keeping her memories and regains from her last go-around.
