Character Name: Shilo Wallace
Character Series: Repo!: The Genetic Opera
Character Age: 17
Background: here
Personality: On the outside, Shilo looks like a very delicate girl. She's ill much of the time, and kept inside and away from the world by her father. Why? A hereditary blood condition, passed on by her mother, that could kill her without her medicine. She claims to be merely defined by her illness and its symptoms and the constraints upon her. Most of her life, she's been confined to one room, one bed, one fate; delicacy almost seems like her only option.

While she might seem fragile, upon closer inspection, Shilo is far from delicate. There's a duality to her, that seems to vary between bitterness, anger, and sadness to moments of clarity and even rash actions.

She's rebellious at times, sneaking out of the house to visit her mother's grave, or collect insects, and she continues to do it even after being caught by the authorities and nearly killed. Shilo is curious about the world. It's a grim, dystopian one that she sees when she looks out her window, but she wants to experience it nonetheless. She finds the beauty where she can in her world, everything from brightly-colored butterflies that she keeps in display cases to music. She adores music, and she idolizes the singer Blind Mag. She's ecstatic when she finally meets her.

But the curiosity doesn't come without some fear. For as much as Shilo wants to explore the world and meet people, she also tends to shrink away when pressed too hard too soon. All she can do is be afraid of the Graverobber, even as she seems fascinated with him. It's most poignant with Blind Mag - after first briefly meeting Shilo at Sanitarium Square, Mag comes to the Wallace home to see her. Shilo shies away, explaining that she wasn't supposed to have people inside, even as Mag tells her that's not the way.

While she does shrink away from people, at the same time, Shilo learns that she doesn't have to be afraid of conflict. She can hold her own in a confrontation - the first time we see this is in her first interaction with Amber Sweet. Amber tries to get a rise out of Shilo, but the younger girl doesn't say anything to aggravate it. It's a trait that only grows from that point. She stands up to her father, and in the end? She even stands up to the destiny that is supposedly laid out for her.

Abilities: Other than Shilo's blood disease and its assorted symptoms - low blood pressure, risk of fainting, hair loss, and a heightened sensitivity to other illnesses - she's a normal human girl.

Sample Entry:

[It's been a little while since Shilo's arrival in Mayfield. Things have been...interesting, over the past few weeks, but she's also learned a lot more about people in those three weeks than she had up till now. Who knew being a 'normal teenager' meant doing the same things adults do back home?]

Hello, everyone. It's Shilo again.

Anyone ever get the feeling that they understand both more and a lot less about people than they did before they got here? I thought I knew about people, just from observing from the window. What I got was that most of them were self-centered and didn't care about anything other than their looks and their social status.

I'm not wrong, about the ones at school. But I see people here who aren't doing that. It's as weird as it is fascinating. I didn't see very many people like that.
