event: mother's day
Happy Mother's Day, everyone! Just like last year, men will be affected by the town to become absolutely devoted husbands, sons, fathers, or friends. This will not be a droning per se, as they will keep their personality and their memories of life before Mayfield. But they will have feelings of adoration for the women they meet, and they will view the women in their household as adopted family. This devotion will be strong enough that they will willingly do anything a woman asks them to do, even if she asked him to end his own life.

Of course, this event is opt in. Below, if you play a male character (meaning a character the town views as male), you may sign up. You can choose whether you would like your character affected this way by all women or just the ones in his household, so specify that when you sign up.

As always, even if someone signs up, you are required to respect their wishes. You must ask for permission before doing anything to their character and godmoding is still not allowed.

Any questions can also go below! This event begins on Sunday at midnight, will last through Monday, and backdating is allowed.

event: freaky friday
On Friday, April 13, characters who sign up for this event will find themselves waking up in another person’s body in the bed of that person's Mayfield house. The IC run time for this event will be until 12:00 AM Saturday, upon which all bodyswaps will be reversed, although of course you are free to backdate and backpost.

You can either plot out which character you’d like to bodyswap with beforehand, or have the mods pair you up with someone randomly. You are free to use Plurk or AIM or other methods to communicate with the people you are swapping with. If you don't have any specific pairing in mind, comment here and other players may reply asking if you'd like to be paired. Obviously, standard god-modding rules apply while in another character's body - please don't do anything extreme that you don't have the other player's permission for.

Please use the comments below for planning or to randomize your character! Sign-ups for mod randomization close at 5:00 PM EST on Thursday, April 12.

event end: may the pranks be ever in your favor
The event is now over!  All regains and items have been returned to their original owner.  Additionally, everyone who participated gets a regain.  As always, you are welcome to continue backtagging and backposting!

Also, everyone who successfully pranked one or more of their targets gets an ultra-special prize!  Points are based on the number of targets pranked, with the participant receiving the prize for their level as well as all of the ones below their level.  As promised, anyone who made their target cry can count it as an extra point!  Please see below for the list of prizes and to redeem them.

event: may the pranks be ever in your favor
[Early on Sunday morning, those who filled out a census form and signed up for the event will be receiving a letter addressed to them from the Mayfield Census Bureau. It appears to be a somewhat strange letter; only the individual it was intended for will be able to open it, and once opened, it will appear blank to everyone but the intended recipient. For those who cannot read, the letter will contain a tape recording that will play the letters' contents, but none but the intended recipient will be able to hear the recording.]

Letter from the Mayfield Census Bureau )

Mod Notes: The event will officially begin tonight at midnight! No character will receive this letter before then. The mods will be starting to PM everyone their target now, and once you have your targets, you can start plotting with your targets' players. We suggest going to their character's contact post to discuss what's going to happen.

Regains program: All characters will still have their regains for this event. However, when a prank has been successfully pulled on the character's target, the person who pulled the prank will be given one of the target's regains, to be worked out between the players. If the target currently has no regains to lose, the pranker will receive their wallet or any other item of monetary value. The pranker will only receive the regain if their victim was assigned to them as a target; if a target is pranked by someone who was not assigned to them, they will keep their regains.

As a reminder, anyone who has not pranked at least one of their targets by the first day will be afflicted with a mysterious disease that will gradually worsen with time. The disease will first manifest as a greenish rash after 12 hours. Over the next day, the rash will spread across the entire skin and large bright polka-dotted spots will begin appearing all over the character's body. Other symptoms - itchiness, fever, nausea, migraines, hallucinations, dizziness, etc - will set in and worsen the longer the sickness is left untreated, culminating in death after 48 hours. The only way to cure the disease is to pull off a prank on one of their targets.

We'll be taking questions in the thread below. Additionally, because of the way assignments have been set up, your character may receive another character that you play as a target. If this happens, you can either handwave what happens or use the corresponding thread to swap targets with someone. You can only request a swap if there's been a mistake made, such as receiving another character you play as a target; however, anyone can reply to a request to switch targets!

event: may the pranks be ever in your favor
Sign-ups are now open for our upcoming event, May The Pranks Be Ever In Your Favor! This event will start on Sunday, April 1st and last until Wednesday, April 4th. Sign-ups will be open until 11:59 PM EST on Friday, March 30th.

On Sunday morning, every character who filled out a census form will receive a letter in the mail. The letter will inform them that they have been offered an exciting opportunity to participate in Mayfield's first-ever Caper Campaign! Within the letter will be a list of a to-be-determined number of names, of which your character will be expected to prank at least one of. The more of their targets they manage to successfully prank, the better the rewards! Each character will also receive a Prankster's First Kit, which will include one (1) Whoopee Cushion and one (1) roll of Saran Wrap.

What counts as a successful prank is up to the players - the only necessary element is the element of surprise, although those who manage to make their victims cry will receive a nice bonus! To help with this, characters will not be able to tell anyone who their targets are until after the prank has been pulled.

Anyone who has not pranked at least one of their targets by the first day will be afflicted with a mysterious disease that will gradually worsen with time.

Sign-ups

If you'd like to participate in this event, please fill out the following form in this post. There are two requirements to sign a character up:

• Have Private Messages enabled for your account. This is how the mods will be contacting you. Please check this, as you cannot participate if we cannot contact you.
• Have some sort of contact post in your journal. This is for plotting with other players! You can also use your HMD for this.

SIGN-UPS ARE NOW CLOSED.

event: return of the census
[It's that time again, Mayfield! Early in the morning, the Postman will make his usual rounds. But today, he'll be dropping off some extra special letters...letters that some of you may find quite familiar. In every mailbox are a bundle of census forms, one for each non-drone person (and pet) in the household.

The census appears to be an ordinary form, although the last number of the date is smudged beyond recognition on every form, and there are some odd questions. Upon seeing one of the forms, your character will feel compelled to fill one out and to be absolutely truthful. If your character cannot read or write, their form will be automatically filled out for them. As soon as they are filled out, the forms disappear.]

[Notes: Every character may fill this out, although filling it out is optional. If you wish, your character will feel compelled to fill it out. No character will be able to lie on the census. For characters not yet introed, it is all right to assume an additional form was dropped off for them upon arrival.

Filling out a census form will be required to participate in an upcoming event. However, there will also be a separate sign up post closer to event start, so you may fill one out even if you don't know if you will participate.

For any questions, please see the questions thread below. For a sample entry, see the sample mod entry below!]

24 January 2012 @ 11:51 pm
event: new and improved
Beginning January 27, Mayfield will be instituting an emergency plan to attempt to correct the malfunctioning revival system. This plan will involve kidnapping random citizens for improvements, repairs, or experimentation. Characters may be operated on in ways that involve changes such as:

warning for gore )

Characters may or may not be drugged for the surgery. The surgery and its effects will not be fatal, although characters will still be able to die for other reasons. Keep in mind that revival is currently turned off, and death will be permanent until a few days into this stage of the event. Characters who die during the event can participate, but you'll need to specify when they die.

If you would like to participate, please fill out the form below. While we encourage you to list what you are and aren't okay with, and while we will absolutely respect what you list, please keep in mind that this event will certainly involve blood, gore, body horror, and dark themes. If you aren't comfortable with that, we suggest that you don't sign up.

Sign-ups will be open until January 27, when this stage of the event begins. Signed up characters will be selected randomly in daily shifts, and the mods will determine what specifically happens to them. We only guarantee that one of your characters will be selected, so please don't forget to specify which character you most want involved. Please only sign up 3 characters maximum. If you sign up, you're giving us permission to screw with your character. If you change your mind about participating, please PM us.

As always, if you are not comfortable with the themes of any event, you may ask that your character not be tagged by affected characters, handwave lack of participation, drone your character, or post backdated entries. We don't want anyone to feel pressured to participate in something that is going to upset them.

Please use the question thread for all questions.

24 January 2012 @ 11:43 pm
event: breakdown
[Well, you really bungled it up this time, didn't you Mayfield? Luckily, the morning dawns without any signs that something's amiss. The birds are singing, the sun is shining, your drone neighbors and family greet you as happily as usual, some of them bleeding through heavy and seemingly fatal wounds...

...wait, what?

As the day goes on, some of you may start to feel a sharp pain in various parts of your body. Some of you may even begin developing gruesome wounds. Strangely enough, these wounds somehow seem quite familiar....]

Following the destruction of the revival machine, death in Mayfield is now permanent. No more comfortably waking up in your bed; anyone who dies will not come back. This will continue until some point during the second stage of the event (probably about 5-6 days), and at that point, no one will be brought back without some serious side effects. So if you choose to kill your character during the event, please keep that in mind and be okay with that!

Additionally, starting this morning, anyone who has previously died in Mayfield before may find the wounds from which they expired from reappearing on their body. The extent of these injuries is up to you - they can range from scars to phantom pain to the complete reappearance of the killing wound or condition with or without accompanying pain. Whether the condition is healable/treatable is also up to you.

The condition may even be severe enough to prove fatal again; however, please don't forget that the revival system is broken, and anyone who dies will not be revived. While there will be an option to revive later in the event, it won't be without consequences. Anyone who dies will be revived at the end of the event.
