event: memory corrupt

On the morning of Friday, June 1st, characters who are participating in this event will wake up with their memories of their entire life history altered. While they will still remember their time in Mayfield, they will believe themselves to be from an alternate universe than the canon they're from. Examples of AUs we will allow include but are not limited to:

alternate timeline; the overall world remains the same, but someone makes a different decision than the one in canon that sends the universe traveling down the other leg of the Trousers of Time. (For example, what if Harry Potter chose to be in Slytherin rather than Gryffindor?)

alternate setting; the fundamental rules of how the canon world works have changed. (Example: If Pokemon often killed humans or died instead of fainting.)

alternate history; your character is now from a different era in their world than the one in canon.

alternate future; essentially a fake/alternate canon-update. Please note that while your character may now have memories of being older than their current age, they will not physically age up as well.

Feel free to come up with AUs outside of the above as well. That said, we will not allow the following types of AUs:

non-canon crossovers; if the crossover doesn't exist in canon, it won't be allowed. (A Kingdom Hearts character believing themselves to be from the world of Aladdin is fine; a Kingdom Hearts character believing themselves to be from the world of Harry Potter is not.)

alternate species; your character must remain the same species as they are in canon.

We will also not allow the following:

alternate regains; all current regains your character may have in Mayfield will remain the same. A non magic-user in canon who is being taken from a universe where they're a sorcerer will still be unable to use magic in Mayfield. Characters will also not be able to use the Post Office to trade for regains from their alternate universe, unless it's a regain they would be able to normally acquire.

physical changes; no matter what AU your character is from, they will remain physically identical to their canon counterpart.

If you have any questions, please use the thread in this post. Feel free to also use this post to plot with your fellow players. This event will end on Tuesday, June 5th, upon which all characters will wake up with their canon memories intact.

The Once-ler will be coming from an AU where he never disbanded his company and ultimately never learned his lesson after the Lorax left. After destroying the valley and realizing that the land around Thneedville was only going to get worse due to the pollution and lack of trees around to produce fresh air, he pooled together every company resource to search for a solution to the problem. His research eventually led him to discover that it was possible to purify polluted air by mechanically filtering it, which would not only be cost-effective but highly profitable, too. As such, it’s his new business venture. As Thneedville’s mayor, he supplies the town with fresh air in exchange for their money, their adoration, and their promise to never, ever, ever leave.

So yeah, he’s that kind of crazy.

He’s still every bit as rich as he was in the OU, maybe a little more than before, so his family hasn’t left him. Their continued poisonous influence coupled with the stress of keeping everyone in Thneedville in line and the Lorax’s perceived abandonment have had a horrible impact on his mind. Not only is he completely consumed by his own arrogance and pride, but he’s also become more paranoid and hateful, believing that everyone is going to leave him unless he makes them stay. So essentially, he’s O’Hare if O’Hare was an even bigger manbaby as well as completely out of his fucking mind.

Rapunzel is going to be completely out of her fucking mind, too. Well. In a very different way. But yes. While she's not going to be crazy violent, she's going to be super angry, super sad, and super afraid of all these familiar faces.

IF she remembers Once-ler as he actually was in her past time at Mayfield, since this is a fake canon update AU for her, she's going to flip the fuck out. Because the fact that she used to have feelings, even if it was a confused crush at the time, for someone besides Eugene? Wow, so not okay to her. She won't be mad at him... Well, she might be, but more so at herself. Especially since she'd have lingering feelings and thus be upset that he's acting like a loony jerk. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU WANT TO DEAL WITH ALL THAT CRAZY, BUT YES.

On the other hand, if she remembers him as always being this way... I have no idea; I feel like that would require a whole lot of plotting as to how they would have interacted then.

OH and the first thing she'll try to do, either way, is get away from him/the house. So that should be fun; especially since SHE was always sweet Rapunzel before leaving to be"updated".

Ohhh boy we should really do it where she remembers him. Being that his abandonment issues have skyrocketed, I could see him getting horribly upset if she tries to leave him and possibly even crazy jealous if he finds out that she found someone else to care about from her world; someone better. The affection would still be there, but it's probably too twisted by his own insecurities ("Leave others before they leave me", "I'm better than him and if she doesn't believe me, I'll have to prove it through any means necessary", etc.) that you can't even really consider it genuine anymore, let alone love.

Um, but yes. I like this setup. Let's do it. :V

So I think Natalie's going to actually earnestly make good on making him that cake, seeing as her AU will goody-goodify her to a considerable degree.
