Hiccup will be taken to the factory and operated on the morning of January 30th. He will be administered a drug that immobilizes him but leaves him conscious and aware of the pain. After the surgery, he will have difficulty moving and experience muscle stiffness for 8 hours.
Hiccup will have the skin on the right side of his body replaced with black scales. Mrs. Johnson will attach one large black reptilian wing to the right side of his back; while Hiccup will be able to unfold the wing and flap it, he will not be able to fly. When he talks, he will occasionally shoot fire out of his mouth which will not be protected from burns. As a complication from the surgery, he will gradually become more and more distrustful of humans, disoriented by loud noises, and develop a paralyzing fear of eels.
Following his surgery, Hiccup will be wheeled to the recovery room, where he will be able to interact with his fellow patients. He will be returned to Mayfield outside the hospital the morning of January 31st.
