event: new and improved
Beginning January 27, Mayfield will be instituting an emergency plan to attempt to correct the malfunctioning revival system. This plan will involve kidnapping random citizens for improvements, repairs, or experimentation. Characters may be operated on in ways that involve changes such as:
Physical
-Limb or organ removal
This can include anything from small amputations (1 finger) to larger disfigurements (all 4 legs and arms). Limbs may be cut off fully or at a half-way point; they might only be half-severed in some cases. Organs that are removed can include those you can live without (such as kidneys, the stomach, the spleen, the tongue, eyes, ears, etc). This can include partial and full removal.
-Limb or organ replacement and body modification
Limbs may be replaced with prosthetics. The prosthetics may be either fully functional replacements, or they may be constructed of metal, wood, or foam. They may be completely useless, such as the handle of a broom or carrots replacing all fingers. Organs will be replaced similarly. Your character may be given a robotic eye or heart. Metal may replace much of their skin. Wood might replace their skull. They may be given feathers or scales. They may be given extra limbs or limbs which they do not need, such as a third arm, a tail, or a pair of non-functional wings.
Limbs and organs may also be switched with the limbs and organs of other characters. This means that your character may wake up with the face of another character stitched over theirs, or another character's arms.
-Disease
Your character may develop a skin disease or suffer organ failure. They may have breathing difficulties, coughing, or a buildup of fluid in the lungs. Their mysterious disease might be contagious or not; they may spread whatever they have to other characters.
-Blood transfusions
Linked to the disease section above, your character may be given tainted blood that might make them sick. On the other hand, a blood transfusion might prove to make them much stronger. Whatever's in the strange blood mixture the doctor's giving them, it will effect them noticeably.
-Pain
Your character may suffer from chronic migraines, severe nausea or stomach pain, joint pain, seizures, etc. They might be operated upon with some of the wounds left wide open. They may be burned or given medicine that will make them sick. They may suffer partial to complete paralysis.
Mental
-Emotional changes
Your character may be rendered volatile and unstable. The possible emotional changes are as follows:
-Severely inclined towards violence
-Extreme cheer and high mood
-Extreme low mood and depression
-Complete personality flip
-Sudden distrust of everyone else
-Hallucinations
Characters may suffer from frightening hallucinations. They may see horrific things or they may hallucinate themselves back in their own world. The hallucinations might be partial or intermittent or they may be full and constant. The hallucinations may also be positive or enlightening.
-Amnesia
There are different levels of amnesia which may affect your character. They are as follows:
-Partial amnesia (forgetting names, faces, and some memories) which fades in and out
-Selective amnesia; forgetting only certain characters and events but otherwise remaining the same
-Full amnesia; forgetting who they are entirely along with all of their memories
-Believing they are someone else; they may think they are another character in the game (requires permission) or another character from their canon.
-Drone-like effects
There are many ways your character may be rendered similar to a drone. They are as follows:
-Full droning; all regains disappear similar to how it would be if a character were dropped entirely
-Partial droning; character may 'flicker' in and out of droning constantly, spending about half of their time acting normal and half of their time acting like a drone
-Complete loyalty to Mayfield while maintaining original personality
-'Glitching'; character will only be able to cycle through a few stock drone phrases (such as "Boy, the weather sure is nice today!" and "I just love Mrs. Anderson's pies!")
Complications:
-Infection
Characters' surgical wounds may become infected or gangrenous. The infection may settle in quickly or it might occur slowly. Symptoms of the infection may or may not be able to be cured by medication.
-Severe injury
Surgery may not be successful and might go wrong. The extent of the injury could be small to severe.
-Side effects from medication
Characters may be allergic to medication or suffer from adverse effects. Medication may often make things worse rather than better. They may be placed on experimental medication which will cause them to reject their new limbs or organs.
Characters may or may not be drugged for the surgery. The surgery and its effects will not be fatal, although characters will still be able to die for other reasons. Keep in mind that revival is currently turned off, and death will be permanent until a few days into this stage of the event. Characters who die during the event can participate, but you'll need to specify when they die.
If you would like to participate, please fill out the form below. While we encourage you to list what you are and aren't okay with, and while we will absolutely respect what you list, please keep in mind that this event will certainly involve blood, gore, body horror, and dark themes. If you aren't comfortable with that, we suggest that you don't sign up.
Sign-ups will be open until January 27, when this stage of the event begins. Signed up characters will be selected randomly in daily shifts, and the mods will determine what specifically happens to them. We only guarantee that one of your characters will be selected, so please don't forget to specify which character you most want involved. Please only sign up 3 characters maximum. If you sign up, you're giving us permission to screw with your character. If you change your mind about participating, please PM us.
As always, if you are not comfortable with the themes of any event, you may ask that your character not be tagged by affected characters, handwave lack of participation, drone your character, or post backdated entries. We don't want anyone to feel pressured to participate in something that is going to upset them.
Please use the question thread for all questions.
