Chandra will be taken to the factory and operated on the morning of January 31st. Mrs. Johnson will drug her. The effects of being drugged will mean that for 12 hours after the surgery, she will feel groggy, nauseous, and find it difficult to think clearly.
Mrs. Johnson will inject her with syringe of unknown fluid. Upon awakening, Chandra will find that she has burst into flames! Strangely, the fire wreathing her body will not actually hurt her at all, though it will affect her environment: the floor beneath her will be scorched, touching anyone who isn't fireproof will horribly burn them, any clothing bursts into flames, etc. Chandra herself will, at first, feel absolutely normal, as though she weren't on fire... for the first day, that is. After 24 hours have passed, the flames around her body will begin to thin and simmer down- as this happens, Chandra will begin to feel unbearably cold and nauseous, increasingly so as the flames dim. Should the flames extinguish completely, she will die. The only way to fan the flames back to normal strength is to touch, and thereby burn, organic flesh. The amount of time bought by burning flesh depends upon the manner of the organism being burned. Anything dead, whether a fresh corpse or packaged meat, will buy her a few more minutes. Small living animals such as birds and rats will buy her a few hours; bigger animals such as dogs and cats will buy her a few more. Human beings will buy her an entire day. All living creatures burned must be completely incinerated in order to "count" to feed the flames.
Following her surgery, Chandra will be wheeled to the recovery room, where she will be able to interact with her fellow patients. She will be returned to Mayfield outside the hospital the morning of February 1st.
