event: the beginning of the end
As the result of a certain outburst, all characters in Mayfield have been implanted with false memories- similar to droning, but without the personality change. They remain self-aware and in control of their own actions, but any memory of their home world has been "overwritten" with fake memories of a life in Mayfield. The false memories will vary in strength- some of you will be able to recognize them as fake, while others will be hard-pressed to even notice anything out of the ordinary.
Regardless of the severity, however, any attempt to remember one's true past meets with heavy resistance. Try to think about your real home too hard, and you'll suddenly find yourself inundated with thoughts about how wonderful Mayfield is and how lucky you are to live here. The thoughts aren't your own, but they are loud, overwhelming and, if they go on too long, painful, like a severe migraine. Fortunately, the thoughts will die down as soon as you stop thinking your new memories are anything but real.
Those who possess exceptionally strong willpower and/or haven't been affected by the false memories as strongly may be able to openly speak, write, or otherwise express the truth of their situation. Doing so openly, however, may carry dire consequences- though of course, we won't do anything too drastic without contacting you OOC.
This will go into affect starting 9 PM EST on Sunday, October 21st. As always, questions and concerns should be posted here.
EDIT: Regarding regains! For the most part, we intend that any regains that obviously don't belong in 1950s small town America will disappear. This won't be hard and fast, though. Just like with memories, some regains might stick around and be confusing. We mostly encourage you to only do this with small things that might raise red flags (I'm stronger than I should be, or that computer is kind of odd, or where did I get that fancy sword?), but if you've already made plans based on assumptions that your character will continue to be bright blue with horns, that's fine.
Just remember, if your thoughts go past "wow, that item/ability/person's appearance is weird" and start heading into "that doesn't belong here, something's up," you'll find yourself with a flood of thoughts about how much you love Mayfield until you stop.

Like, for example, Astral's beyond photographic memory seems like something that would interfere with the memory rewrite...

For this, see the regain question above. If you want him to still have the memory, that's fine, but he wouldn't retain his memories of anything not included in the rewrite (except for the memories "breaking through" thing). He'd just have photographic memory of life in small town Mayfield.

So basically regains and memories are 1950's/Mayfield-ified. Gotcha.
I just realized his clothing regain is probably still somewhat period appropriate and now I can't stop laughing ahahahah-
Wait does the regain point include the physical body then?

And if not, then what happens if they try to remember things that have happened since they arrived in Mayfield?

Of course, if he's openly dating someone not his wife, then people will definitely be disapproving of it.

Two, what happens if your character has no real reason to actually be happy in Mayfield? For instance, Schuldig's wife Ema has had an affair/possibly divorced him for Edward, he has no job(I never gave him one), and if his personality is relatively unchanged then he'd still be a sadistic bastard who had a pretty miserable childhood and has lost almost all his adult friends, even if the details would be different. :|a So even within the perfection of Mayfield, it doesn't seem like he'd be happy, because not much has happened to him for him to be happy about. Would the town force happiness on him in some way? Would his role within Mayfield be drastically rewritten to allow this? Would Mayfield be forced to change his personality to make him less sadistic? Or would he not actually be happy, even with the false memories, and be more likely to shake off the effects as a result?
One more thing...

Just want to make sure before I do something to upset the local mods.
