Closing
As of tonight, Mayfield is now closed.
From all the mod team, we want to thank you for sticking with the game this far. The past four years have been a blast for us, and we hope you've enjoyed the ride. No RP- no matter how wonderfully modded and excellently managed and painstakingly organized (BF wrote this, in case you were wondering) -would be worth anything whatsoever if it didn't possess a playerbase that was engaged, creative, and passionate about the game. You guys have been all of those things, and more.
You are, of course, free to continue museboxing both in the "new" Mayfield setting and the old one! The former, notably, includes an option to bring back old/dropped characters if their ex-players are interested in re-introducing them to the new setting. Soon, hopefully tomorrow, we will be introducing a new community for playing in the new setting. It will be unmoderated, but you will be able to play out endings for your characters both current and former if you want.
While we get the musebox up, here are some guidelines:
Dropped characters will only have memories of Mayfield up to their time of dropping. They can be brought back, revived through the droning machine.
Characters who died during permadeath can also come back, but will not have any memories of their time in Mayfield when they do. They will be, essentially, brand new constructs using the same copy information they were originally created with.
If two different people rped the same character, that's okay! Sometimes, the machine glitches and creates duplicates. You can play your version of the character, with memories only of your time playing them, and someone else can play their version as a duplicate.
Characters have some power to control the new town. This means they can alter the buildings, decorate, bring in items from their world. They don't have too much power, so they can only do a limited amount of this every day. It is also easier to create raw materials and build from them than to create finished items. Character will have to put some work into building this setting, but can bring some home with them little by little. Regains not brought with you from Mayfield will work the same way; they can be brought little by little. Any powerful weapons will be nerfed to reasonable levels courtesy of Annie; you can define what this is.
We hope to see you guys around elsewhere in RPland, and we hope that in all of your new RPs and endeavors, you keep one simple thought in mind.
Do not ever, under any circumstances, drink the milk.
And with that: goodbye. Thanks for everything, you guys.

I've said it here and there before, but your game management here was the best, and you did it with a monster of a playerbase, for several years. Your plot had its own terrifying soul (so much so that Mayfield-tan was an inevitability). Your organization and instructions were clear and concise and that is what made the place feel so much less like reading a book and more like playing a fully interactive virtual reality game, because players' way of guiding their characters were overall in sync. That's the kind of thing that makes it so easy to form CR, too.
...and...uh, actually, I mean...
I just wish you guys could do something about that lack of a sense of humor!! Your only bad quality, I just gotta be honest, the least you could do is throw a curveball or two in on the whole ride. Predictability is nice and comfortable, but... :/
No but seriously
SERIOUSLY I know I haven't played in enough games for these words to mean much, but I think you guys deserve an actual prize for best RP game creators, ever. For the time being, though, please for the love of god put your feet up and crack open your beverage of choice as I raise this toast to you, mods, and I include past mods on this as well.
To the best goddamn mods Livejournal and Dreamwidth RPers could ever ask for!
CHEERS!

I'm screaming and laughing and sobbing and crying right now.
Before Mayfield, the longest I ever lasted in a game was six months. Here, I've been around for almost two years. And, surprisingly enough, Miku's stayed a constant presence as well. She's, like, the oldest, longest-lasting muse I have by now, and because of Mayfield she's changed a lot from when I first apped her in.
And, in some ways, she hasn't changed at all.
So. Um.
Holy shit, I love you all.
And because I seem to be absolute rubbish at writing speeches, have a song instead. Be glad I couldn't find a Miku cover of Carry On My Wayward Son, really.
I LOVE YOU, MAYFIELD.

I hope we can all stay friends!

Oh shut up, Tony.
Seriously, this was really fantastic. You mods deserve the highest praise for how you handled this game, stuck it out, the fantastic events and plotting and just everything. You can guarantee that hundreds of people will use Mayfield as their benchmark for RPs from this point forward, and I know I will too.
Y'all are the shit. I hope you know that already.
