Applications

• Please read over all the rules and information before applying in order to minimize any confusion before joining.

• If applying for a character that has already been dropped, it would be a good idea, though not required, to know something of their previous interactions. You are also free to pick up a dropped character with no memories of their previous time in Mayfield.

• All content for the personality and sample entry in your app must be written or roleplayed by you; for the personality section in particular, we do not accept copied text from wikis or other sources. Obviously, you may not copy your app from other players, whether in Mayfield or other games. Application plagiarism will result in a ban from the game.

• If you wish for your character to be placed in a specific house, please mention this in the relevant section of the application and specify that permission was obtained by the PCs already residing in that house. We will be operating by the Honor System for this, and there is no need for others to comment their permission in this post!

• Other special requests would also best go in the beginning of the application. Remember, grammar and spelling are important -- if your app contains errors, you will be asked to revise.

• Please post all applications or canon updates in this post; posting them elsewhere and linking to them from here may cause them to get changed later. Posting them here keeps us from having to save them.

When Applying, Fill Out the Following:

When Applying for an Original Character, Fill Out the Following

• Before applying, please look over any applications that were recently accepted to get an idea of what we're looking for.

• If you apply for a character that has already been reserved, we will inform you and ignore the application until the reserve runs out. You may not apply for more than two characters from the same canon. For the sample entry, you may write your own entry, or use a post from a musebox, dressing room, or other game. We recommend [community profile] testrun_box if you prefer the latter!

• After you're accepted, please follow all of the instructions given. You will need to reply to the acceptance, post your journal to the friend add page and your canon post, join the communities, and use the friend add page to update your journal. Once you're accepted, please introduce yourself on the community when you're ready to play.

• If your app is "Pending", do not freak out! This means that we need you to make some revisions, and does not mean you're rejected. We generally give players a chance to revise before rejecting them, but we will reject apps that do not address the concerns stated when we asked for a revision. If you have been rejected, our reply will clearly state this to be the case. If we have not gotten back to you yet, under no circumstance does this mean you are rejected. If it has been over a week since our last reply, it would be a good idea to contact us with a reminder, otherwise, please be patient!

• If you have received a "Pending" notice, you will have one week to supply us with your revisions, or your reserve will be considered expired and that someone else is free to apply for the character.

• The typical wait for a reply on apps may be anywhere from a day to a little over a week. If any part of your application requires a pending, it may be another week after your reply to that before we can get to you. We process a high volume of apps every round, so please be patient.

If you have not heard back on a pending for over a week after apps close, please send a PM directly to the mod account.

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED.

Obera Yun Fang | Final Fantasy XIII | Reserved -- 2/3

[personal profile] tofightfor 2012-03-02 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Fang cares. A lot. Sometimes far too much for her own good, even if her expression of that concern doesn't always come across or isn't expressed 'right'. One such example of her concern could easily be seen in her supposed 'betrayal' of the party before fighting against Bahamut. Fang yelled at the party, effectively telling them that if they wanted to doom themselves then they could fight her because she would bring destruction on her own. While many may have considered this a betrayal I always viewed it as Fang trying to help them complete their focus, by whatever means it took. If she was dedicated to destroying the world and they were able to beat her, then they would be crystallized and their mission complete, therefore saving them from cie'th status. However, if they beat her and nothing happened, then they would know that their focus wasn't, in fact, to save Cocoon. On the flip side, if she was able to stop them, knock them out temporarily, then she'd buy herself some time and a head start on the rest of the party. This head start would allow her to complete the focus for all of them, and save the rest of them from ever becoming cie'th. Her caring for others can also be seen in the end of the game when Fang tries to take on the burden of ending Orphan by herself, going against her party members wishes to make sure she can protect her family.

She feels guilt and she's got her regrets even though her verbalization of these things may be few and far between. In Episode One, Fang reflects on a talk with Sazh in which Sazh explains that what happened to Dajh wasn't her fault. In her reflections, Fang also explains how her talk with Sazh really, in the end, had saved her. Fang however, never extensively expressed her regret or guilt while they spoke. While it is never expressly stated, it is indicated that by seeing Dajh's smile that was all the forgiveness she had needed in Episode One. Also in Episode One, Fang expresses the worry to Vanille if Serah will forgive her for what happened and Vanille reassures her that Serah is kind and Vanille believes that Serah will undoubtedly forgive her as well. It seems as though Fang is a little doubtful, perhaps because she herself, has a hard time forgiving others. Throughout the course of the game, even after she finds out in chapter 11 that Vanille does remember and Fang was the one who turned into Ragnarok, Fang never flinches aside from her anger that Vanille would lie to her. If Fang hadn't failed at destroying Cocoon, then they wouldn't have been in the mess they were currently in.

Fang claims at one point that she's "got some screws loose". This is a matter of debate in this mun's opinion, but it could easily appear so to those outside of Fang's head. One such example of the 'screws loose' aspect is Fang's betrayal of the party, which as explained above, when looked at in a different light, doesn't appear as much as "insanity" as it does a difference of thought process. Another point in which Fang's "screws loose" comes into play is when she betrays the party a second time at the end of the game. Though, even after the betrayal she makes comment of if this is her reward for choosing salvation. Clearly, Fang thought what she was doing was for the betterment of all and would be a move to save everyone, even if from an outside perspective it may have seemed a terrible move to make.

Fang is dedicated, motivated and stubborn. At no point through out Episode Zero up until Episode One does her relentless forward movement stop. She's made up her mind that she will complete their focus, she will save and protect Vanille and nothing will stop her. Even when captured by the Calvary Fang still takes the maneuvers she thinks will put her in the best position possible to move forward with her and Vanille's focus, even though she doesn't have the faintest of a memory what it is they're supposed to be doing. There's also a slew of things I could quote here about how she'd 'tear down the sky' to save Vanille, or when they're trying to rescue Sazh and Vanille how Fang states she doesn't care how many soldiers are aboard the ship, that she'll take them all on.

This in turn plays into what, at one point, Lightning calls Fang's "wild fearlessness". Turning an eye to how Fang acts throughout the entire game, she never once backs away from a fight and never seems deterred when something stands in her path, regardless of who or what it is. In addition, we can add in Episode Zero where Fang tried to fight against Anima while in his temple full of priests because she was upset with how the fal'Cie treated 'his own' people.

Motivation is another key aspect of Fang's personality. While she may think that Cocoon and Gran Pulse can rot, she never stops trying to accomplish what she's doing. While this could be attributed to determination, motivation undoubtedly plays a key role as well. This motivation paired with her determination results in a ridiculous amount of stubbornness to come from her as well. If it's fighting against her own party, trying to escape from the Calvary ship (Episode Zero), never backing down from a fight or telling people's Eidolons to back the fuck off, Fang faces all challenges with what appears (to me) with a challenge of her own: You won't stop me.

Perhaps some of this extreme drive can be linked back to her, almost, obscene desire to protect others. If it's trying to stop the party from their own foolishness, or from dedicating herself to becoming a l'Cie to fight against those (Cocoon and Cocoon's fal'Cie) that took away her and Vanille's parents, or even simply her high level of skill in the sentinel role, Fang is always putting herself at risk for the safety of those around her. Fang shows willingness to make the tough decisions so that others won't have to. To take the destruction of the world in her own hands so that Vanille won't have to hurt anyone and so that the rest of the party will never have to feel the guilt of the own decisions. Paired with this desire to protect comes a definite willingness to sacrifice her own well being or mental state to make sure others can be happy and safe. However, this could also be linked to the fact that part of her formative years were spent living during the War of Transgression where she was likely to see a lot of sadness and pain.

Recognizing this aspect of her mindset, we can also draw the conclusion that Fang holds the concepts of happiness and safety in high regard. While she is very relaxed and willing to let a lot of things slide, it is only when people begin to do things that will harm them or bring sadness into their lives, that Fang takes immediate actions or becomes angry. Anytime that anyone in the group starts heading down the path of Cie'th-dom is when Fang is quick to react. Even dropping the topic of Vanille's lying to her in the face of Hecaton with a cool and, what appeared to be, level-headed ease.

Another time in which anger becomes a dominant emotion is when Fang becomes desperate. If she is reduced to feeling like something is going horribly wrong and there is nothing she can do to stop this, her first response is always fight instead of flight. If it's courageous or stupid has yet to be decided.

Through out most of the game, Fang represented herself as relaxed, rarely allowing herself to get particularly wound up. Her posture is always easy, showing a certain level of comfort, even in hard times. She didn't sweat the small things, such as diving off a building, fighting her way through an area or even going against an entire world. As her description in the game manual states, she's not one to sweat the small stuff. Which, when stuck in a race against something worse than death, most of life becomes "small stuff."

A point that was never well outlined in the game (in my opinion) is Fang's level of intelligence. She is quite smart, to the point that others doubt her intelligence for sheer dumb luck in Episode Zero. In Episode Zero, by mere observation Fang figures out how to use a credit card to purchase items (which credit cards did not exist on Gran Pulse), how to turn on a hover bike and how to drive one. An in game example of her ability to catch on and learn quickly, is how she figures out how to use a gun just moments after Snow had tossed it to her while assisting in saving Hope and Lightning from PSICOM in chapter seven. Another aspect of her intellect can come from her trolling of other characters in the game. After her confession to Lightning and being promptly punched she proceeds to ask "Feel better now?" and after that even makes comment about how Snow hadn't even gotten that upset. While these could have been idle comments, it would also be easy to view them as intentional, using the comments as tools to gauge what type of person Lightning was and what type of reactions Lightning was most likely to have.

Another aspect present in Fang's personality is her confidence and assuredness in her abilities. If she's carrying on about tearing down the sky to save Vanille or saying how she'll take on every single solider Cocoon, Fang clearly believes that she has the ability to change her and others fate. This can also be seen in the fact that she never hesitates or doubts her mission. The only times in which she seems remotely "appeased" is when she actually says nothing, leaving it up to others to interrupt her silence as they want. When she does speak up though, Fang is not once to mince words and will very clearly make her point.

Funny enough, even though Fang seems to have a bit of a chip on her shoulder against the fal'Cie (wanting to attack Anima/attacking his priests, Cocoon's fal'Cie taking away things from Gran Pulse (including her and Vanille's parents/willingness to destroy Cocoon's fal'Cie in some regards) she does seem to hold a very strong belief in Lady Luck. Fang makes several references to Lady Luck, even though no one else ever seems to say a single thing about this concept throughout the game.

Last, but not least, is Fang's strong belief in family and the bonds that one shares with those considered family. Fang tells Vanille, after defeating Hecaton, about how things will be okay and they're not alone anymore as they have a new family. Then at the end of the game, Fang risks forsaking the entire world and the promise she made to Vanille due to a promise she had made to herself to protect her family. Clearly, if a person is willing to destroy a world for those they love, it has taken a clear priority.

This belief to some degree, and others listed above, are only backed up further due to some Vanille says in Episode Zero that:

"Fang doesn’t fight because she is strong, though she is quite strong. She fights because she is kind. She can never forgive those who hurt the people she loves... Fang would never forgive herself if she hurt someone who was innocent."

Abilities:

Fang actively sought out the ability to become a l'Cie of her own free will back in the War of Transgression. Upon being bestowed with the l'Cie abilities Fang's own natural strength grew to the point that she was the strongest member of her party (Strength score 2,005 points) by the end of her adventures with the rest of the FF13 cast. Her strongest role in the party was that of Commando. This set of abilities made her a fearsome melee based combatant with some minimal non-elemental based spell casting. Her second strongest role with the party was that of Sentinel. In this role Fang made herself a living target for any enemies that would face off against the party. She did so by provoking the enemy into attacking her, instead of other party members, getting in vengeful counter attacks and even hosted the ability for her to firmly stand her ground. If that were by 'entrenching' herself in a stance or by 'MediaGuarding', which allowed for rapid life regeneration while also providing her with a reduction in damage for those attacks that were landed against her. Fang's third strongest role would be that of the Saboteur. In this role she focused heavily on disabling and weakening enemies that might stand in her, or the parties, way through a series of magical alignments. If it was lowering the enemies physical or magical defenses, poisoning them, dazing them or a host of other spells. Fang also has some rather low end magical offensive abilities and some minor healing spells but in comparison to her other teammates she's on the lower end of that ability spectrum.

Eidolon: Fang was able to summon the Eidolon Bahamut (a huge dragon that also has a humanoid like mode) after beating him in her moment of indecision. Bahamut uses non-elemental based magic and physical attacks. In

Tank: Fang can take massive amounts of damage and deal out heavy physical damage but tends to be a bit weak magically. While she learns a fair number of spells her other party members can easily out magic her. Plus if she is kept outside of melee combat this can put her in a serious pinch. Not to mention Fang pretty much sucks at being able to heal others and cannot heal herself at a rapid rate. Due to all of these factors is why her teaming up with Vanille is so vital to both of their survival. Fang can beat things in the face and take hits all day long but if an enemy can only be hurt with magic or puts a hard core hurt on her, she's screwed.

Half-Ragnarok Transformation: This wild and beastly form is both a gift and a curse given to Fang by the fal'Cie Anima. It is in this form that she is supposed to merge with Vanille's half of Ragnarok so that they can hold enough power to bring about an end to the world of Cocoon, forcing Maker to emerge. When their first chance to do this arose, Vanille didn't want to hurt anyone, so Fang took the task upon herself. Fang manged to scar the protective shell that housed the inhabitants of Cocoon, but wasn't strong enough to destory the world on her own. However, when Fang and Vanille did merge into the full form of Ragnarok, instead of destroying the world with their power Fang and Vanille chose to save it.

Sample Entry:

You gotta be kiddin' me.

[Blinking she examines the 'to-do' list in her hand before looking around the place. Even if she'd been here for a few weeks it all seemed weird still, having all her memories of Gran Pulse but supposedly never having that life. The ghost memories of her scars and necklaces still haunted her body, making her feel like they were there when they weren't. It was a little infuriating actually but she'd swallow down the brief flashes of anger for now.]

This place is worse than Cocoon. [Fang sighed, eyes falling down to the paper again. All of this was making her feel like a prisoner. She was going to have to do something about this but... A hand reached up to touch at where her l'Cie mark had been.]

Neva' thought I'd miss that. [The words were a bit rough in their mumbled state as her eyes narrowed with another, harsher, sigh. At least none of the others had seemed to have to deal with all of this. She'd rather it be her anyway, they didn't deserve this mess. A knock came at the door and she moved to answer it. There was the milk man all right showing up at the same time of day, every day. These drones seemed less than human. He cheerfully offered a bottle over and she forced a smile. For now she'd have to play by their games until she had a better feel for just what she could and couldn't get away with here. Observing them and asking questions would give her more information to use and they'd never know it... Not until it was too late and she'd all ready struck.]

Thanks. 'ow much do I owe ya? [He gave a price, she'd give him his money before moving back into the house and pouring the bottle of milk down the drain.]

Jus' cause I gotta take it from ya, doesn't mean I gotta drink it. [A frown had set across her face as today's delivery yielded a few teeth with the white liquid flowing down the drain. Her face twisted up a bit and she silently thanked Lady Luck that Vanille had been so pushy about her drinking out of glasses instead of out of cartons and bottles in the past. Otherwise, she never would have noticed the razor blades in last weeks bottle.]

Think I'll be stickin' with th' wata'.

Woo! This is the character journal I'll be using for Fang! :D. \o/
