As a kid, Shoutaro was innocent and kind, like any average child. But that gave way eventually to a slightly troubled youth: getting in trouble, and constantly having to evade a single patrolman (usually accomplished by fooling him with a UFO sighting...though that only led him to having to help the gullible patrolman in his search for the constantly appearing UFO).
But there was always something at the back of his mind: the image of a man he'd seen as a child: fighting a large spider monster barehanded. Someone that was so amazingly cool to his young mind. That man was Sokichi Narumi. Was it because of this man that he tried to stand out in rebellion, to try to get another glimpse of him? Whatever the reason, he managed to get there, becoming his assistant, his admiration only growing more for the man, as he found out that he was also the city's mysterious protector: Kamen Rider Skull.
That is...until Begins Night.
Taking a mysterious case, Sokochi took Shoutaro to Gaia Tower, to rescue an unknown client's target: a young man that was working there. There, he was given a metal briefcase, and was told to NOT move. Shortly after, he witnessed Sokochi's transformation into Skull, and wandered off, finding his way to their quarry; a strange boy about his own age. Unfortunately, Shoutaro got him locked into a strange device, incurring wrath from his Boss. The two quickly located him, and Sokochi freed him, giving the boy the name 'Philip'.
But, as they started to make their escape, tragedy struck: the armed men of the facility shot Sokochi in the back. Dying near Shoutaro, he gave him his signature hat, which at points before, he'd never let Shoutaro touch, due to him not 'deserving to wear it'. This caused Shoutaro massive angst as he ran with Philip out into a stairwell. As the two were quickly pinned down, Philip opened the case, and offered Shoutaro a choice to 'ride with the devil'. Without thinking, Shoutaro grabbed the Double Driver and one of the contained Gaia Memories, and the two escaped the quickly disintegrating building, as Kamen Rider Double.
Over the next few months, Shoutaro took up his mentor's cases and agency, and with Phillip's help, carried on as both a team of detectives, and protecting the city from Dopants as Double. They would gain partners in Akiko Narumi, his Boss's spunky (and to Shoutaro...annoying) daughter, and Ryu Terui, a cold-as-steel detective with the police (though they didn't really get off to a great start, as Ryu had a massive grudge against Fuuto, which rubbed Shoutaro the wrong way).
They would take on several Dopants from The Museum, a mysterious organization spreading Gaia Memories to ordinary citizens as psuedo experiemnts. The Museum was run by the Sonozaki Family, a rich and influential family, living in a large estate in the city, and having holds in museums, businesses, and even the media. The family acted as the leaders/generals, with the father, Ryuubee, as the head, using the Terror Memory. His plan was to transform the world using the Earth's memories, using his children as the avatars (including, as later revealed Philip, who was his only son, Raito). This change would be known as Gaia Impact.
But they weren't the only threats: Foundation X, the sponsors of Museum's experiments, also wanted their own stake in the transformation of the world, with or without the Sonozakis, and the terrorist group NEVER, who wanted to turn the world into undying monsters like themselves. Even enemies from other worlds emerged, and forced them to join forces with what would have been the Rider's universe's destroyer: Kamen Rider Decade.
But there were also problems within the agency as well: Philip was not only the enemy's kin, but was also living data, since his actual body had died as a child. And his Mother, a woman known only as Shroud, was determined that Shoutaro and Philip were not the best possible partners to take on Museum (as it turns out, she was the client for Begins Night), since unlike Philip and Ryu, he had no resistance against Terror's powers.
But Shroud's scheme turned out to be wrong, as it was Shoutaro, using every bit of his bravery, despite being infected by Terror, who turned out to stop Museum's schemes.
After Museum was brought down, Foundation X took up where they left off,and attempted to use the remaining members of the Sonozakis to create their own version of Ryuubee's goal. But to stop them, Philip would have to give his life to transform into Double one final time. Shoutaro refused to do so several times, even when X's Utopia Dopant threatened to destroy them all. He even went in alone, and managed to stop the second attempt at Gaia Impact, using only his gadgets and his mentor's hat to stop Utopia.
Eventually though, Utopia, being like the members of NEVER, and unable to die without having his memory broken, forced Shoutaro to use Double one last time, Shoutaro even canceling the transformation himself afterward as a final 'goodbye' to his partner.
But, Philip left him one last gift: the ability to still protect his city from any Dopants that may still remain. Using his mentor's Lost Driver and his Joker Memory, he kept vigilant as Kamen Rider Joker.
A year passed, with minor Dopant activity, until a gang of punks called EXE decided they would continue The Museum's work. Shoutaro fought against them to save a child and his older sister, but when the odds seemed grim, Phillip surprisingly returned, and Kamen Rider W was reborn.
They continued fighting for Fuuto, discovering NEVER's origins, helping Ryu overcome a frame job by a crooked detective, and fighting alongside several of their Kamen Rider brothers (noteably OOO against the evil Kamen Rider Core, and with Fourze against Foundation X).
Personality: Shoutaro is hard-boiled (or...at least he claims to be). This means to be tough as nails; to be unaffected by the world around him, and to be nearly emotionless. Unfortunately, Shoutaro's friends have a more accurate (and irritating to him) description of him: half-boiled. This basically means that though he has his tough facade going, he is totally guided by emotions. But, more often than not, this is one of Shoutaro's greatest features. It allows him to care much more deeply for his clients, and gives him and added dose of determination to solve his cases. But it can also allow his enemies to strike a fatal flaw: Shoutaro will not attack an unarmed/defenseless/untransformed opponent.
Shoutaro cares deeply for everyone in his city. His constant pledge is to keep his city from crying, and his work is the only way to do this, whether its helping a child to find their pet, or stopping a rampaging Dopant from hurting people as a Kamen Rider. And since that title was given to him by the city, he holds it with the utmost pride.
Though, he is not without his failings. Being outed as half-boiled has the tendency for him to become angry (and in one case, has even made him lash out in violence), as he holds being hard-boiled as one of the key staples to being a great detective. He also can become irritated easily by childish or baffling behavior, which he seems to attract sometimes.
But, he has a secret problem as well: Shoutaro is a day dreamer. No one knows this (or at least he thinks/hopes no one does), and its one of his big fears that he will be discovered, making him look even less hard boiled. His day dreams are often innocent enough at first, starting out as thinking of different circumstances happening to people in his life (most often Akiko). But they quickly descend into chaos, and far beyond the original premise.
Abilities:
Natural/Learned abilities:
Shoutaro is an accomplished fighter, as well as an impressive detective, in terms of both investigation and tracking (people as well as pets) skills.
Skills as Kamen Rider Joker (attained via use of the Lost Driver and Joker Gaia Memory):
Superhuman levels of agility, speed and strength. His armor is able to deflect conventional police weaponry, since it is used to being used against monsters that deal out much more damage (such as fire, electricity and large blades, etc). He has two finishing attacks in this form (which have a secondary ability to eject Gaia memories from their Dopant users, revering them back to human form and destroying the device): The Rider Punch and Rider Kick, a flying punch and jump kick respectively. Both attacks may look basic, but are backed up by large amounts of power, increasing their damage by devastating amounts.
Skills as Kamen Rider Metal (headcanon; not used in series, but likely useable in this fashion: attained with use of Lost Driver and Metal Memory):
Same as Kamen Rider Joker, though is more durable. His main weapon is called the Metal Shaft: a long staff with an adjustable core. Finishing attacks are Rider Strike (mass on Metal Shaft increases sightly and delivers a sweeping blow to the opponent), Rider Slash (part of the Shaft becomes a blade and can hit with a burst of energy, whether through the blade itself or as an energy wave),and Rider Jump (tip of Metal Shaft becomes pointed. Metal will leap into the air and divebomb the enemy with the tip of the spear).
Skills as Kamen Rider Trigger (headcanon; same reasoning as Metal: attained with use of Lost Driver and Trigger memory):
Same abilities of Joker, but with higher visual accuracy. Main weapon is the Trigger Magnum. Finishing attacks are Rider Shooting (a large beam), Rider Shotgun (A wide scattershot that splits more if a wall is hit or a long distance is achieved without contact), and Rider Sniping (an extremely dangerous technique that requires Shoutaro to be completely still. If he is able to maintain the stance and the power used for the attack, this will hit any target from any angle).
Skills as Kamen Rider Double (attained via the Double Driver with paired Gaia Memories. Also needed for transformation is Philip (aka: Raito Sonozaki) with the matching Double Driver):
We would like to request an expanded personality section and a new sample. For the personality, we would like to see you go more in depth by mentioning his relationships and further expanding on his traits.
We'd also like a new sample which distinguishes his voice better. The one provided doesn't give us a good sense of the character.
(continued from the section on Fuuto and his pride as a Rider):
Seeing a person stretched to their limits of despair really sets Shoutaro off, often going to extreme lengths to either prevent or stop this. An example of this would be when he attempts to stop the Weather Dopant, who was responsible for killing Terui's family. when Terui is unable to do so, and attempts a life-threatening Double Maximum drive attack to do so.
Shoutaro is a wannabie-ladies man, going to extreme lengths to impress a pretty face, even when it flies in the face of his hard-boiled image (like showing off a secret cat-finding skill, which requires him to meow loudly and openly in public).
When he's not putting on his hard-boiled facade, likely around people he's very close to, he's very relaxed, and will be more likely to react naturally (at least for him) to what's going on around him, often taking things rather animated.
Shoutaro held Sokichi in the highest regard, feeling he was the epitome of men, and how men should act. This, and how Sokichi died are major factors in why he holds his facade in the limelight as he does (though his is more exaggerated than Sokichi's very natural hard-boiledness). This is also the reason that, despite annoying him greatly at times, he tries his best to shield Akiko from the dangers all around them. But now, he's mostly given up that position to her husband Terui, furthering the trust he has in his friend.
While he will treat anyone he's become close to as part of his extended family (and information network when his partner cannot find the information), Phillip is the closest of them all. He treats him as not only his partner (in both detective and Rider), but more of a little brother, whether its being annoyed when he mocks him, getting physical when he's ticked off at him, or protecting him from dangers (including him vanishing from all existence).
New sample:
[Shotaro is sitting at his makeshift desk, in the makeshift office he's managed to cobble together out of the various bits of the living room. The sign's now hung, and all he has to do is wait. After quite a long while of browsing the very limited library in the house, and trying to make coffee, he hears a knock at the door. Specifically the one he'd set up.]
*ahem* Come in!
[He sits down, back turned to the door, slipping his fedora down slightly over his face, trying to keep the atmosphere. These 50's type people might just eat this stuff up.]
Welcome. I...have no assistant to offer you coffee, but there is a pot on the des...erm...coffee table here that you can serve yourself with. Whenever you're ready, I'll hear your case.
[He is solely wanting a swivel chair at this moment, because he has to embarrassingly hop the chair around to face his potential client. He doesn't see anyone in the field of vision he was expecting.]
Huh? I know I heard the door open and shut...
{Mister?}
[Shoutaro blinks and looks down, spotting a small child. He is a bit visibly taken aback.]
Ah...I wasn't expecting you to be so...young. Shouldn't you be at school?
[He's trying hard to keep his image in-check, but this has thrown him a bit.]
{School's out for today. Your sign says you're a detective, right?}
I see...
[He checks the clock. It's past 3 already...]
I must've lost track of time. And yes, little one..I am a detective. What can I do for you today?
[He has a baaaaaaaad feeling about this....]
{My kitty mister...he's gone. Can you find him for me? I...I only have this much. I know detectives get paid...}
[The drone child puts a small piggybank onto the table. Shoutaro scratches his head. He HATES this kind of work usually...but...the kid looks on the verge of tears. He grins a bit, and places a hand on their head.]
This place...will soon be my garden. I'll find your cat for you.

Sample Entry:
[Outside of house.]
Ahh...that should do it.
[Shoutaro has finished nailing a sign to the front of his house. it reads: "Cases solved Hard-Boiled-Style. Knock twice loudly for consultation."]
Now to wait and see what interesting stuff comes my way.
[Later that day: Downtown]
More pet cases...why me?
[Shoutaro's only client was a young drone girl who's lost her kitten. So...he's stuck.]
No ones around...might as well go for the secret technique.
[Anyone that's around Shoutaro will now hear him calling for the cat by meowing in varying tones of voice.]
