• Please read over all the rules and information before applying in order to minimize any confusion before joining.
• If applying for a character that has already been dropped, it would be a good idea, though not required, to know something of their previous interactions. You are also free to pick up a dropped character with no memories of their previous time in Mayfield.
• All content for the personality and sample entry in your app must be written or roleplayed by you; for the personality section in particular, we do not accept copied text from wikis or other sources. Obviously, you may not copy your app from other players, whether in Mayfield or other games. Application plagiarism will result in a ban from the game.
• If you wish for your character to be placed in a specific house, please mention this in the relevant section of the application and specify that permission was obtained by the PCs already residing in that house. We will be operating by the Honor System for this, and there is no need for others to comment their permission in this post!
• Other special requests would also best go in the beginning of the application. Remember, grammar and spelling are important -- if your app contains errors, you will be asked to revise.
• Please post all applications or canon updates in this post; posting them elsewhere and linking to them from here may cause them to get changed later. Posting them here keeps us from having to save them.
When Applying, Fill Out the Following:
When Applying for an Original Character, Fill Out the Following
• Before applying, please look over any applications that were recently accepted to get an idea of what we're looking for.
• If you apply for a character that has already been reserved, we will inform you and ignore the application until the reserve runs out. You may not apply for more than two characters from the same canon. For the sample entry, you may write your own entry, or use a post from a musebox, dressing room, or other game. We recommend testrun_box if you prefer the latter!
• After you're accepted, please follow all of the instructions given. You will need to reply to the acceptance, post your journal to the friend add page and your canon post, join the communities, and use the friend add page to update your journal. Once you're accepted, please introduce yourself on the community when you're ready to play.
• If your app is "Pending", do not freak out! This means that we need you to make some revisions, and does not mean you're rejected. We generally give players a chance to revise before rejecting them, but we will reject apps that do not address the concerns stated when we asked for a revision. If you have been rejected, our reply will clearly state this to be the case. If we have not gotten back to you yet, under no circumstance does this mean you are rejected. If it has been over a week since our last reply, it would be a good idea to contact us with a reminder, otherwise, please be patient!
• If you have received a "Pending" notice, you will have one week to supply us with your revisions, or your reserve will be considered expired and that someone else is free to apply for the character.
• The typical wait for a reply on apps may be anywhere from a day to a little over a week. If any part of your application requires a pending, it may be another week after your reply to that before we can get to you. We process a high volume of apps every round, so please be patient.
• If you have not heard back on a pending for over a week after apps close, please send a PM directly to the mod account.
Personality: Having been born in extremely well off circumstances and her world’s equivalent of high-society as well as being an only child, Tyve is used to being comfortable both materially and emotionally. So when thrust into a new and/or unknown situations, she can come off as frigidly polite or a touch too arrogant. This had been one of the traits that had endeared her so readily to her peers when she had first joined the academy and caused no little amount of conflict until she began to thaw out and display a sense of camaraderie with her fellow students. Also having been blessed with a thicker emotional shell than most, she often comes off as exceedingly blunt, quite unforgiving in her assessment of people or their actions. She has yet to grasp the idea that other people can and sometimes do have more delicate sensitivities than she does.
Just because she can shrug off most things however, doesn’t mean that she’s exactly stoic. Far from it. She has plenty of pride in her abilities and has a low tolerance for it being questioned or insulted. Really when it comes to perceived slights to herself or those she cares about, Tyve has a temper that takes long to cool and the kind of stubbornness that won't back down from a fight or a disagreement. Traits that are only intensified from her going through the emotional rollercoaster that is adolescence. Tyve, also being a teenager during the more dodgy bits of being a teenager, does have a that certain teenage surliness and bravado as well, rarely thinking before she acts and no doubt ripe for getting into trouble.
Despite her youthful brashness and thanks to her upbringing in a military household, Tyve does for the most part defer to authority figures, though really only in the context of whether or not they’ve been or are currently in some sort of milita or military service. Basically anyone with a military background gets a free respect pass from her unless they do something she views as unbecoming. On the other hand, she tends to be skeptical of what she views as civilian authority and if she doesn't like what she sees, she isn't afraid to speak up. Though if said civilian figure displays something she views as proper and right, she will give to them the same level of respect as a military officer.
On the thread of military, there is an interesting contrast to Tyve. Owing to said upbringing, outside of her emotions, Tyve does try to keep things orderly and disciplined. Which she succeeds in...Except when duty may involve personal or emotional matters. Tyve tries to be disciplined in those situations as well, but has a difficult time separating duty and her own personal emotions. She is also young and with it comes the impulsiveness, inexperience and temper that youth brings. That isn’t to say that she is completely short-sighted or incompetent. She does have a strong sense of right and wrong but sometimes does choose to ignore it as her passions dictate.
Tyve has always been a serious person, in fact it was a joke among her friends and peers that she allotted herself only one smile a month, maybe a laugh if news was particularly good. While it was a exaggerated joke, she really does have no sense of humor. She thinks pranks are frivolous (and reacts badly to them) and is that person that just really doesn't get the joke or doesn't find the humor in it. Though, she is capable of smiling and laughing a lot more often than she's been given credit for. Or at least she did. With the events of the massacre still fresh in her mind, it has become the rare event her friends have joked about.
Seeing as it’s been less than a year since she was involved in the academy massacre, she still occasionally suffers nightmares and carries a good deal of survivor’s guilt with her. Though most of the time she’s learned to keep it well hidden, occasionally a sight, sound or some sort of trigger can bring it to the surface. It’s not particularly pretty either, whether it is a small bubbling or a full blown flashback. Another result of the whole incident seems to be that she tends to be a bit more guarded in forming relationships with new people, most notably people around her age group. Having such a traumatic thing happen to a girl her age has left her shaken, though she vehemently opposes being seen as a broken thing, her pride absolutely refuses it.
People wise, she takes some time to warm up to people, even more so as mentioned previously, but once she does, she tends to be loyal and steadfast. She is the kind of person will go out of her way and bend over backwards for a friend. Sometimes even to the point of being blind to when a friend may be in the wrong. Having not experienced betrayal yet in her life, she generally believes in the good of people for the most part though her brush with the dark side of humanity via the massacre has also given her a bit of a cynical tinge at times. Though that doesn't keep her from disliking people if she disagrees or argues with them.
Passions reigned in properly, she has the potential to be a force to be reckoned with, but that is something that will come in time. At the moment she still is a girl still growing up.
Abilities: Tyve is a normal human with the same limits of endurance as a normal human her age in peak condition. In addition, her upbringing and education brings her the ability to shoot a gun with startling accuracy. She can also wield a sword enough to stay alive for more than five minutes against a more competent foe. Note staying alive doesn't mean staying uninjured. So really people good with swords could just beat the tar out of her. She also has surprisingly crazy good reflexes. And all the competency in tactics and warfare that being in a military academy bequeaths. Note that I do not say good. Just competent. And this if you can get her to not rush headlong into things.
Eventually she will become a badass general, but that’s at least 15 years down the road so for all intents and purposes, she’s a greenhorn. Talented, yes, but still terribly inexperienced.
Sample Entry 1: [There's a voice on the phone. It sounds tense, clipped and angry. Someone got April fool’d.]
I'm not quite sure who thought that this would be an absolutely hilarious idea. But whomever was responsible for.. For.. [She actually seems to sputter a bit. If anything her anger seems to be escalating in her voice.]..Hanging my undergarments on the flagpole outside of the school, I strongly suggest that you confess to the crime. I don’t appreciate your attempt at some juvenile sense of humor and in fact I think you’re all the more terrible for doing such a thing. And if you’re an adult, what right do you have doing something so perverse to someone who is probably half your age? I've been taught never to take kindly to leches.
[Takes a moment to breath. Or maybe ramp up for even more anger.]
If you don't tell me who did it, I swear to all the gods of every damn world here that I will find you and it will not be pleasant! [There's a loud noise, almost like someone is slamming the phone down. Which would in fact be the case.]
Sample Entry 2:
[After the latest round of hell bent destruction from the town, it's regain day. Tyve sits on the porch contemplating this particular regains box. It's small and innocuous and she's not quite sure what could be in it. After all, she's gotten so many things from home at this point. Goodness, she's even gotten a training rifle from home back. But at the same time she knows that even scars come back. And she’s avoided that much. She bites her lower lip slightly as she turns the package over and over in her hands.]
I suppose there's no use in trying to figure out what it is. If it is a scar, I suppose I’ll have been used to it the first time around not to mind it again. [She opens the box and lets a small gasp out.]
W...[She swallows hard, trying to choke down the sudden lump in her throat before she speaks to herself again, a hiss escaping her lips.]What did they think they were doing?
[She lifts up the object, almost in a bit of shock in recognition of it, to inspect it closely with her own eyes. It’s a small pin, a silver ring with a small ruby bird on it. Almost as if it was yesterday, her mind imagines again the moment she had received this pin from her. She remembers as Aderyn’s delicate hands pinned it to her lapel. She wore it the rest of their second year. It had marked the turning point for Tyve as her feelings for the other girl had slowly begun to grow. This had been an object she thought she had lost when the attack had happened. When she saw her world fall apart. The last time she could recollect seeing it was when Aderyn had fallen, and she'd tried to save her… And then...]
This town is really terrible. Truly. [Rubs her eyes with the back of her hand, finding herself surprised for a moment at the dampness she feels. Realizing that she might be crying a little, she quickly closes the box and stands; hoping no one has seen her moment of weakness, before retreating into the house to mourn and sob quietly in her room.]
