Applications

• Please read over all the rules and information before applying in order to minimize any confusion before joining.

• If applying for a character that has already been dropped, it would be a good idea, though not required, to know something of their previous interactions. You are also free to pick up a dropped character with no memories of their previous time in Mayfield.

• All content for the personality and sample entry in your app must be written or roleplayed by you; for the personality section in particular, we do not accept copied text from wikis or other sources. Obviously, you may not copy your app from other players, whether in Mayfield or other games. Application plagiarism will result in a ban from the game.

• If you wish for your character to be placed in a specific house, please mention this in the relevant section of the application and specify that permission was obtained by the PCs already residing in that house. We will be operating by the Honor System for this, and there is no need for others to comment their permission in this post!

• Other special requests would also best go in the beginning of the application. Remember, grammar and spelling are important -- if your app contains errors, you will be asked to revise.

• Please post all applications or canon updates in this post; posting them elsewhere and linking to them from here may cause them to get changed later. Posting them here keeps us from having to save them.

When Applying, Fill Out the Following:

When Applying for an Original Character, Fill Out the Following

• Before applying, please look over any applications that were recently accepted to get an idea of what we're looking for.

• If you apply for a character that has already been reserved, we will inform you and ignore the application until the reserve runs out. You may not apply for more than two characters from the same canon. For the sample entry, you may write your own entry, or use a post from a musebox, dressing room, or other game. We recommend [community profile] testrun_box if you prefer the latter!

• After you're accepted, please follow all of the instructions given. You will need to reply to the acceptance, post your journal to the friend add page and your canon post, join the communities, and use the friend add page to update your journal. Once you're accepted, please introduce yourself on the community when you're ready to play.

• If your app is "Pending", do not freak out! This means that we need you to make some revisions, and does not mean you're rejected. We generally give players a chance to revise before rejecting them, but we will reject apps that do not address the concerns stated when we asked for a revision. If you have been rejected, our reply will clearly state this to be the case. If we have not gotten back to you yet, under no circumstance does this mean you are rejected. If it has been over a week since our last reply, it would be a good idea to contact us with a reminder, otherwise, please be patient!

• If you have received a "Pending" notice, you will have one week to supply us with your revisions, or your reserve will be considered expired and that someone else is free to apply for the character.

• The typical wait for a reply on apps may be anywhere from a day to a little over a week. If any part of your application requires a pending, it may be another week after your reply to that before we can get to you. We process a high volume of apps every round, so please be patient.

If you have not heard back on a pending for over a week after apps close, please send a PM directly to the mod account.

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED.

Character Name: Finnick Odair
Character Series: The Hunger Games
Character Age: 24
Background: Finnick Odair @ The Hunger Games Wiki. I'm taking him from the beginning of Mockingjay.

Personality:
When we first meet Finnick in the series, all we really know is that he's "the sex symbol from the fishing district." He won the Hunger Games at 14 -- thanks in part to winning the hearts of sponsors with his astounding beauty -- and his name has been near and dear to the hearts of all Panem's citizens ever since. And how can he help it? He oozes charisma and sex appeal. Women (and men) fling themselves at his feet, no matter where he roams. He can recite love poetry on national television and have the entire world swoon, thinking he's talking about them.

But that's not all there is to him. Nope. Not at all. Beneath all the sparkling ~~confidence~~ and playboy bullshit, he's a delicate mentally unstable snowflake with a precious romantic heart. (We'll get there.)

He may be known for his charm and good looks now, but that's not how he made his claim to fame. He won the Hunger Games by being a cold and vicious killer (although, as previously mentioned, being beautiful helped. But hey, that can only take you so far.) And he was raised thinking that was okay -- being chosen as tribute in his home district is a great honor, as opposed to the poorer districts, where it's treated like a death sentence. This part of his life isn't really touched on in the books, save for Katniss labeling him as a Career tribute. If he was -- and there's no reason to doubt it -- he'd probably spent his entire life beforehand preparing for it. He would have spent as long as he could remember training to kill people and see others as prey, and receiving praise for it. He doesn't seem this callous in his current day interactions, but it's likely still there. As soon as he's back in the arena in Catching Fire, he doesn't hesitate to kill anyone who might get in his way. However, he doesn't support violence for the sake of violence, at least if his girlfran/wife Annie is to be believed. She is adamant that Finnick wouldn't support an act of petty revenge like the final Hunger Games suggested in Mockingjay.

Finnick has also proven to be very cunning and clever. He knows how to execute a scheme. He was in on the plan to manipulate Peeta and Katniss for the sake of ~starting a revolution~ and never let it on to either of them. He also played up the fact that Katniss was supposed to be pregnant to the point that he obviously knew it was a lie -- an obvious gambit to pander to and manipulate the hearts of the sponsors.

On that note, perhaps his greatest talent is his ability to act. Not only in both of his Games, but in his life ever since the 65th. Ever since he turned 16, he's basically been a sex slave, passed around to the highest bidder to anyone in the Capitol who wants a chance to tap that ass. The only reason he does this is because the lives of everyone he cares about will be on the line if he refuses. But you'd never know any of this if you saw him in public. He's a smooth operator.

Or at least, he seems that way. It becomes clear just how good an actor he is if you scrape past that shiny surface paint. What he seems to be, in reality, is a compartmentalizer. When Mags, his mentor and almost-family-member to him dies, he loses his shit and cries and ocean of tears -- but only when he's sure Katniss and Peeta are sleeping. He's just as unstable as any of the other past victors, and that shows when he reaches his ultimate breaking point between Catching Fire and Mockingjay. Annie Cresta is ~his entire world~, and when her uncertain fate haunts him, it's all he can think about. He cries incessantly and doesn't respond when people try to talk to him. It's some Girl, Interrupted shit.

Speaking of Annie Cresta, she's kind of a big deal to him. His entire world revolves around her. She's both his greatest motivator and his greatest weakness. He does his whole sparkling diamond of the Moulin Rouge shtick to protect her, and has his psychotic break because of her. All of his greatest fears involve losing her. If you want him to turn into a big ol' mess, doing something to her is a guaranteed way to get it done. In the 75th Hunger Games, when he thinks he hears her screaming in pain, he completely loses his shit. Then he has his descent from being a functional human being, which he is only cured from when he's reunited with her. And then they never stop holding hands. Ever. No, really. They also get married and have one of the most maudlin, melodramatic romances ever. In the words of Katniss re: post-marital bliss Finnick: "Finnick's real charms of self-effacing humor and an easygoing nature are on display for the first time."

His loyalty is not only to Annie, but extends to anyone he cares enough about. He obviously loves Mags in a paternal/grandparental(???) kind of way. He basically insists that Katniss make Johanna part of their ally team, although whether that's because they've gotten to know each other over the years because they're both victors and now they're super best frans or because they were in on this mockingjay scheme is another one of those millions of things left unclear. Over the course of the books, he becomes very close to Katniss, too, despite his initial interactions with her probably being attempts to win her trust. In their time in District 13, they're more or less all each other has -- or, she's all he has, anyway.

He doesn't tend to lie as much as he makes offhand comments that are truthful but easy to overlook. Example: he talks about how he's paid in secrets in his very first conversation with Katniss, which could be taken as him being flirtychan and playful up until his big confession scene in Mockingjay. One of the most interesting comments he makes in this vein is that he doesn't seem to think he's well-liked. He tells Katniss that Mags is one of the few people who actually likes him. As far as he's concerned (imo), the people of the Capitol don't who scream and throw their panties at him don't like him as much as they want a piece of his fine ass. He says the only person who "likes him", the real him, is Mags, but it probably also extends to Annie (who he was trying to keep his relationship with a secret at this point) and later Katniss.

Abilities:
He doesn't have any ~special powers~, but he's a beast physically. He won the 65th Hunger Games when he was only 14, mainly by weaving nets out of some kind of vine he found and using it to entangle his opponents while he speared them with a trident.

+ He's amazing with a trident; this is usually the weapon he favors.
+ "A good fighter with spears and knives"
+ Knows archery, but it doesn't state how proficient he is.
+ Awesome at making fancy knots. He made a noose in like five seconds.
+ He swims like a fish. Or Aquaman.
+ And, for some cool story bro: "Finnick's style of fighting he used to win his Hunger Games is based on a type of Roman Gladiator, the Retiarius, who used nets to entangle opponents and a trident to finish them. Retiarii had often had reputations as skilled combatants and lovers."
