Applications

• Please read over all the rules and information before applying in order to minimize any confusion before joining.

• If applying for a character that has already been dropped, it would be a good idea, though not required, to know something of their previous interactions. You are also free to pick up a dropped character with no memories of their previous time in Mayfield.

• All content for the personality and sample entry in your app must be written or roleplayed by you; for the personality section in particular, we do not accept copied text from wikis or other sources. Obviously, you may not copy your app from other players, whether in Mayfield or other games. Application plagiarism will result in a ban from the game.

• If you wish for your character to be placed in a specific house, please mention this in the relevant section of the application and specify that permission was obtained by the PCs already residing in that house. We will be operating by the Honor System for this, and there is no need for others to comment their permission in this post!

• Other special requests would also best go in the beginning of the application. Remember, grammar and spelling are important -- if your app contains errors, you will be asked to revise.

• Please post all applications or canon updates in this post; posting them elsewhere and linking to them from here may cause them to get changed later. Posting them here keeps us from having to save them.

When Applying, Fill Out the Following:

When Applying for an Original Character, Fill Out the Following

• Before applying, please look over any applications that were recently accepted to get an idea of what we're looking for.

• If you apply for a character that has already been reserved, we will inform you and ignore the application until the reserve runs out. You may not apply for more than two characters from the same canon. For the sample entry, you may write your own entry, or use a post from a musebox, dressing room, or other game. We recommend [community profile] testrun_box if you prefer the latter!

• After you're accepted, please follow all of the instructions given. You will need to reply to the acceptance, post your journal to the friend add page and your canon post, join the communities, and use the friend add page to update your journal. Once you're accepted, please introduce yourself on the community when you're ready to play.

• If your app is "Pending", do not freak out! This means that we need you to make some revisions, and does not mean you're rejected. We generally give players a chance to revise before rejecting them, but we will reject apps that do not address the concerns stated when we asked for a revision. If you have been rejected, our reply will clearly state this to be the case. If we have not gotten back to you yet, under no circumstance does this mean you are rejected. If it has been over a week since our last reply, it would be a good idea to contact us with a reminder, otherwise, please be patient!

• If you have received a "Pending" notice, you will have one week to supply us with your revisions, or your reserve will be considered expired and that someone else is free to apply for the character.

• The typical wait for a reply on apps may be anywhere from a day to a little over a week. If any part of your application requires a pending, it may be another week after your reply to that before we can get to you. We process a high volume of apps every round, so please be patient.

If you have not heard back on a pending for over a week after apps close, please send a PM directly to the mod account.

Character Name: Dante

Character Series: Devil May Cry

Character Age: Adult; not too sure on his actual age.

Background: Post Devil May Cry 4 . Chronologically, the series goes 3, 1, 4, 2. Since no one talks about 2, he’s being pulled after 4.

Personality: There is one immediately noticeable trait of Dante’s: he’s very much full of himself. His cockiness stems from his confidence as a demon hunter and from his unrivalled sense of style. One could say that Dante is prideful or even egotistical, however those words imply that he’s a boaster with no talent. Let it be known that that statement is entirely untrue; Dante has a very long history of battling demons and corrupted humans, battles that not only demonstrate his power as a half-demon and son of the legendary dark knight, Sparda, but the ever present sense of showing off his talent to others via unethical, but stylish techniques. That said, Dante also has a sense of playfulness about him; despite all of his encounters with fearsome demons and intimidating situations, the demon hunter very rarely takes things seriously. He’s more for exchanging witty dialogue and toying with his enemies before actually fighting them.

But despite his constant laid-back and “play it cool” demeanor, Dante is very much capable of emotions and loyalty to others. The greatest example of this would likely be the ending to Devil May Cry 3 where he ultimately defeats his brother, Vergil, in combat and he chooses to stay in the demon world as opposed to return to the human world. He and Dante were constantly at each other’s throats and fighting each other, but after watching his brother fall further into the demon world and preventing Dante from saving him, Dante cried over the loss of his brother. Dante has a history of befriending those he has less then preferable encounters with; whether it’s his charm or his inability to hold a grudge, Dante can look past the harm others have caused him and make allies out of them. Trish, for example, was a demon created in the image of Dante’s mother to lure him into a trap by posing as a client. After their inevitable battle, Trish chose to give up her life to spare his and after the true villain was defeated, she partnered up with Dante and worked with him in his office, appropriately titled "Devil May Cry."

Which brings up the next noteworthy aspect of Dante’s character: his strong sense of justice. Over the course of his career as a mercenary and demon hunter, he learned that the only way for a demon to reach their true power is to have the will to protect others, a very human trait that he respects. He’s also learned that humans can sometimes be worse than demons, what with ambitions that can get corrupted or as opposed to a typical demon’s functioning on instincts, humans function with full consciousness and awareness. Ironically, Dante refuses to kill a human under any circumstances, likely because they have a level of potential that demons rarely possess. Trish, for example, was a demon who demonstrated human traits by protecting Dante, letting him forgive her betrayal and not see her as an enemy.

On the flipside, humans who surrender their humanity for demonic power are more than liable to meet their end by Dante’s hands. Characters like Arkham (Devil May Cry 3) and Agnus (Devil May Cry 4) relinquished their humanity for power and were eventually killed off by Dante. While it may sound complicated, it essentially boils down to Dante viewing the duality of human behavior as a device to help him judge whether someone can be saved from their torment and ultimately spared, or if they should be killed so they can’t harm any other people.

It should also be noted that Dante can sometimes be supportive to a fault. As a mercenary, he gets all sorts of jobs offered to him and tends to pass on those with high pay if he doesn’t want to do them, but he always takes on the ones that catch his interest (paranormal acts, demon hunting) regardless of how little the pay may be offered. He’ll even forget about the fees if the person is too poor to bring the fees upfront, which often leaves Dante in a financial rut. He’s usually in debt to someone, whether it’s his fellow demon hunters or the pizza place he loves ordering from; he’ll often try to gamble for the money, but it should be known that Dante has terrible luck and can’t really win things unless it’s some sort of fight.

Sometimes Dante can be gruff and might not always look reliable, but anyone who makes a friend out of him will have one hell of a drinking buddy or guardian figure. He tries not to judge by first interactions, but if he catches wind of evil activity, he’ll do everything he can to stop it, which may lead to him trying to crack a few skulls…or shoot ‘em; whatever works.

Abilities: Half-demon: Demons can already take a lot more punishment than normal humans can, but because Dante’s the son of the Legendary Dark Knight, Sparda, he’s much more powerful than them. This is essentially his source of super strength, agility, magic and incredible durability. This also includes some self-healing since major injuries aren’t able to keep him down in canon.

Master of combat: Dante is incredibly skilled with all sorts of weaponry, let it be guns, blades, scythes, guitars, rifles, hand to hand and almost every type of weapon; this is more of a natural talent and magic isn’t necessary for him to fight, but he often uses it to augment his attacks.

Style changes: They serve more as combat styles for how he battles his enemies, ranging from gunslinger (gun-based attacks), swordmaster (melee attacks), trickster (dashing and extra agility) and royal guard (defensive blocking and countering). Some of them stem from his natural combat prowess, but most of it comes from being fueled by his demonic magic. These will be a separate regain from his half-demon body.

Devil Trigger: This is pretty much when Dante unleashes his powers and transforms into his demon form. With it, his healing is bolstered as well as his attack strength, speed and defense. It’s also capable of flight and ranged magic attacks, but those sort of abilities change depending on the weapon he has in his hands.

Sample Entry: A dear mun post

As well as something else for Mayfield!

(You’d think getting robbed of all his power would at least bring his ego back down into reality, but it didn’t. Not in the slightest. So that’s why he’s picking up the phone to bother the residents of Mayfield.)

You know, the whole lack of demons thing kind of makes this place pretty decent…but the problem? It’s putting me out of work. Plus it’s damn boring here; where are the pizza places? Can’t a guy take it easy with delivery once in a while? Come on, man; that ain’t right…

…tell you what; since this place needs all the excitement it can get, how about I do you all a favor and show you some of the best guitar skills you’ve never seen before? Get to the park at 8 tonight and you’ll be in for a hell of a show.
