Applications

• Please read over all the rules and information before applying in order to minimize any confusion before joining.

• If applying for a character that has already been dropped, it would be a good idea, though not required, to know something of their previous interactions. You are also free to pick up a dropped character with no memories of their previous time in Mayfield.

• All content for the personality and sample entry in your app must be written or roleplayed by you; for the personality section in particular, we do not accept copied text from wikis or other sources. Obviously, you may not copy your app from other players, whether in Mayfield or other games. Application plagiarism will result in a ban from the game.

• If you wish for your character to be placed in a specific house, please mention this in the relevant section of the application and specify that permission was obtained by the PCs already residing in that house. We will be operating by the Honor System for this, and there is no need for others to comment their permission in this post!

• Other special requests would also best go in the beginning of the application. Remember, grammar and spelling are important -- if your app contains errors, you will be asked to revise.

• Please post all applications or canon updates in this post; posting them elsewhere and linking to them from here may cause them to get changed later. Posting them here keeps us from having to save them.

When Applying, Fill Out the Following:

When Applying for an Original Character, Fill Out the Following

• Before applying, please look over any applications that were recently accepted to get an idea of what we're looking for.

• If you apply for a character that has already been reserved, we will inform you and ignore the application until the reserve runs out. You may not apply for more than two characters from the same canon. For the sample entry, you may write your own entry, or use a post from a musebox, dressing room, or other game. We recommend [community profile] testrun_box if you prefer the latter!

• After you're accepted, please follow all of the instructions given. You will need to reply to the acceptance, post your journal to the friend add page and your canon post, join the communities, and use the friend add page to update your journal. Once you're accepted, please introduce yourself on the community when you're ready to play.

• If your app is "Pending", do not freak out! This means that we need you to make some revisions, and does not mean you're rejected. We generally give players a chance to revise before rejecting them, but we will reject apps that do not address the concerns stated when we asked for a revision. If you have been rejected, our reply will clearly state this to be the case. If we have not gotten back to you yet, under no circumstance does this mean you are rejected. If it has been over a week since our last reply, it would be a good idea to contact us with a reminder, otherwise, please be patient!

• If you have received a "Pending" notice, you will have one week to supply us with your revisions, or your reserve will be considered expired and that someone else is free to apply for the character.

• The typical wait for a reply on apps may be anywhere from a day to a little over a week. If any part of your application requires a pending, it may be another week after your reply to that before we can get to you. We process a high volume of apps every round, so please be patient.

If you have not heard back on a pending for over a week after apps close, please send a PM directly to the mod account.

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED.

Name: James
Personal Journal: [personal profile] truebluehorror
Other Characters Played: Pokey Minch, The Major, Haruko Haruhara, Benson
Preferred Housing: I would like Lucifer to be placed in the third and last child slot of 1648 Albright Lane. Permission has been gained by all the players there.

Character Name: Lucifer
Character Series: Shin Megami Tensei
Character Age: Unknown. Debatably from shortly after the dawn of creation. He'll be dragged into town in his child form as his default, which appears 10.
Background: http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Lucifer
Personality:
Lucifer, at his core, is an idealist. There’s a single, motivating factor that guides Lucifer, and in many ways he’s romantic about the notion. That ideal, his alignment if you will, is Chaos. Lucifer believes in a worldview where all people and creatures are their own masters, and all people govern themselves and answer to no higher authority than their own beliefs. Of course, this freedom comes with the cost that you should still take care of who you speak and deal with, as a creature who is stronger than you, of course, has the right to do as he pleases with you if you are unable to defend yourself. There’s no law to stop it: at the very end of the day, might makes right, and the mightier you are, the more in the right you are. That is freedom: a dog eat dog world where all are free to do as they please without the fear of being governed by a higher authority, but must prove they have the right to this freedom through their own shows of strength. Despite being as powerful as he is, and generally being considered the de facto leader of the demonic realm, Lucifer has no love nor concern about personal rulership. After all, being forced to rule something would be a chain, and would deprive him of freedom. He “rules” at the moment solely due to waging his war against God/YHWH, who represents Law and would oppose him.

Going along with is love of Chaos, Lucifer has a personality that at times borders on the frivolous when given the chance. Many of Lucifer’s forms are shown to love talking with others and discussing his ideals, often times passionately. Lucifer truly believes in the concept of absolute freedom without restraint, and will deride opinions that would contradict it if given the chance. That being said, he will rarely attack someone outright for their beliefs if they don’t go along with his unless he sees that person as being entirely irreconcilable to his way of thinking. Rather, Lucifer will tend to speak his own ideology, often romantically and grandly, to others to try and influence them to side with him. He will rarely use force to make someone decide to go one way or the other: after all, that would invalidate his own cause of chaos and freedom and make him no better than the creatures of law he so detests. He isn’t, however, above dressing up his own reason for existence and tempting others over to his path. He will give others power and tell them they might forge their own path with it. The catch, of course, is that he most often gives power to those who already find his path and ideology appealing. Lucifer might occasionally give power to someone and simply bank on them coming to accept and aid him or to become a wild card just for shits and giggles, but these are often times rare. In his war with the forces of Law, he can’t allow too many pieces to be at play that could tip things out of his favor.

Despite his ability to be quite amiable and talkative, Lucifer can also be incredibly straightforward when it comes to business. When he has something to say, it will be heard, and you will listen whether you want to or not. He will give you offers and, while he will often allow you to choose not to accept them, it will become clear that you’re often in a situation where refusing his help is the same thing as slitting one’s own throat. Lucifer doesn’t generally believe in outright forcing something on someone, unless they’re aligned enough with Law and thus his enemy, but he will do his best to stack the cards in his favor when he plans to do something. Occasionally, going along with his more serious side, Lucifer will use a direct liaison. For instance, throughout most of his time in his child form, Lucifer had another demon (debatably an extension of himself) appear as an old woman who he would whisper to and then would repeat what Lucifer said to the protagonist. Many times, Lucifer will try and play the role of what he appears as, whether it be a child, a grown man, a woman, or an angel or demon. Lucifer’s forms, and some of the quirks of his behaviors, are incredibly varied and add yet again to his role as an agent and aspect of Chaos.

Lucifer, in the end, is an opportunist and schemer attempting to manipulate the events around him just enough that it can be argued that things fell into place due to the free will of beings other than just himself. While hypocritical in some of the means he employs to getting there, Lucifer truly does believe in the ideal of chaos, and chaos as freedom, and he’ll go to any lengths necessary to achieve it. Including challenging God himself.

Abilities:
As the “Lord of Demons”, and the head of the Chaos faction where strength is everything, it is no surprise that Lucifer is himself unbelievably powerful when it comes down to it. Lucifer has several sets of abilities and powers, which I’ll give a brief description of here.

Alternate Forms:
One of the simplest of these powers is Lucifer’s ability to change forms. This “shapeshifting” doesn’t seem to have any real limit, and Lucifer can, and has, chosen to appear as anything from a child, to a young man, to a grown adult, to an old man, to a woman, to an angel, to a demon. There seems to be no real limit to how Lucifer can appear, although it’s worth noting that Lucifer’s demonic essence, for a lack of better words, might make him appear the way he does. While humans see him as human, other creatures tend to see him as whatever they are: for instance, in Devil Summoner 2, a group of fly people refer to him as Beezlebub because to them he looks like a fly. Thus, he most often looks human in appearance because it’s with humans he tends to interact, and anyone else would see him as an age appropriate (for his current form) version of their own race. The only two forms that aren’t negotiable with how he appears are his demon and angel forms, which can be humongous in size as well, though none of Lucifer’s forms specifically grant him any powers. The powers he possesses, he naturally has no matter what form he might take.

Magic:
Lucifer possesses a devastating amount of magical powers. While he may not be the most physically powerful creature (although he is indeed physically powerful), he is certainly one of the most magically powerful beings in the universes he spans in the SMT canon. He has a wide-array of fire and ice magic, several exceedingly powerful Almighty spells (magic that is devastating due to not having any elemental affinity and it’s tendency to be unable to be blocked), a couple debuffing spells, magic that can charm those he casts the spell upon, and healing magic.

Demonic Traits:
Lucifer also has several incredibly powerful traits. He can appear to teleport, being in one location at one instant and then another. He can fly and levitate, though he rarely displays these outside his angelic and demonic forms. He seems to be able to sense other supernatural/demonic creatures and even normal humans who have an incredible strength of will (and thus could be useful), and the ability to instinctively know who they are. At many times, he seems to possess powers of divination that would allow him to keep track of what’s going on to ridiculous degrees, though it’s worth noting even then that he has nothing even near equaling something like omnipotence in this regard. He is also amazingly resilient, either being incredibly resistant or immune to several types of elemental spells and generally heavily resistant to physical damage (although he is often never outright invulnerable).

Demon Summoning and Creation:
Being the leader de facto of the Chaos alignment, Lucifer has the ability to summon demons to him at will. He very rarely seems to do this, however, as he prefers dealing with most things (both talks and combat) on his own, but there are instances where it clearly isn’t impossible for him to summon demons to his side. The best example was when he had one escort him throughout Nocturne under the guise of his nanny (when he appeared as a child) or as his nurse (when he appeared as an old man).

Along with this, Lucifer also has the ability to create new demons, usually by imbuing humans/other sentient creatures with power. He can do this through either ceremonies, usually melding a human with another demon, or through the use of a creature called a magatama, which can borrow into a person and created a “demifiend”, or a being that is half-human and half-demon.
