Applications

• Please read over all the rules and information before applying in order to minimize any confusion before joining.

• If applying for a character that has already been dropped, it would be a good idea, though not required, to know something of their previous interactions. You are also free to pick up a dropped character with no memories of their previous time in Mayfield.

• All content for the personality and sample entry in your app must be written or roleplayed by you; for the personality section in particular, we do not accept copied text from wikis or other sources. Obviously, you may not copy your app from other players, whether in Mayfield or other games. Application plagiarism will result in a ban from the game.

• If you wish for your character to be placed in a specific house, please mention this in the relevant section of the application and specify that permission was obtained by the PCs already residing in that house. We will be operating by the Honor System for this, and there is no need for others to comment their permission in this post!

• Other special requests would also best go in the beginning of the application. Remember, grammar and spelling are important -- if your app contains errors, you will be asked to revise.

• Please post all applications or canon updates in this post; posting them elsewhere and linking to them from here may cause them to get changed later. Posting them here keeps us from having to save them.

When Applying, Fill Out the Following:

When Applying for an Original Character, Fill Out the Following

• Before applying, please look over any applications that were recently accepted to get an idea of what we're looking for.

• If you apply for a character that has already been reserved, we will inform you and ignore the application until the reserve runs out. You may not apply for more than two characters from the same canon. For the sample entry, you may write your own entry, or use a post from a musebox, dressing room, or other game. We recommend [community profile] testrun_box if you prefer the latter!

• After you're accepted, please follow all of the instructions given. You will need to reply to the acceptance, post your journal to the friend add page and your canon post, join the communities, and use the friend add page to update your journal. Once you're accepted, please introduce yourself on the community when you're ready to play.

• If your app is "Pending", do not freak out! This means that we need you to make some revisions, and does not mean you're rejected. We generally give players a chance to revise before rejecting them, but we will reject apps that do not address the concerns stated when we asked for a revision. If you have been rejected, our reply will clearly state this to be the case. If we have not gotten back to you yet, under no circumstance does this mean you are rejected. If it has been over a week since our last reply, it would be a good idea to contact us with a reminder, otherwise, please be patient!

• If you have received a "Pending" notice, you will have one week to supply us with your revisions, or your reserve will be considered expired and that someone else is free to apply for the character.

• The typical wait for a reply on apps may be anywhere from a day to a little over a week. If any part of your application requires a pending, it may be another week after your reply to that before we can get to you. We process a high volume of apps every round, so please be patient.

If you have not heard back on a pending for over a week after apps close, please send a PM directly to the mod account.

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED.

Taking the lack of response to my request to postpone as a 'no' to that question, I hope these revisions are adequate. -u-

Personality: (Whether as an addition or replacement for the initial application)

Going into further detail (and potentially re-writing a chunk of the personality section...)... The definition of 'naive' is a lack of experience/judgement/or information- to be credulous. It is having or showing an unaffected simplicity of nature. It is having or expressing innocence and credulity. In other words, when Nepeta is described as 'naive', the naivety applies to her outlook on things, and more particularly what her apparent and surface responses are; that is to say playful, and 'innocent', despite the seemingly barbaric actions of ripping apart animals for food and such, which most would obviously not see in a similar light. More importantly, it affects how she views and describes things, and can easily make 'simple' what most would describe in an overly complex manner; rather than explain things literally to Jaspersprite when trying to describe the coming 'scratch', she compares it to things that both of them are familiar with; scratchposts, to represent the beat mesa John is scratching, and yarn to describe the timeline Jaspers exists on. In doing so, she quite accurately explains what is likely to happen in the end. This is proof that, despite her childish nature, she's actually quite bright (if even wise), and her vocabulary as well shows this at times (though Equius will more often than not tell her not to use such 'vulgar language'). The fact that she is able to hunt and kill prey in itself points toward this; she simply acts and voices her opinions in a more straightforward and manner.

She doesn't like upsetting people, most particularly her moirail- and to help with this, she understands people as well, or at least, she makes effort to get to know the people she's close to until she knows them well enough. Her words to Equius while arguing that he enjoys games (He was insisting otherwise) imply that it's an ability via scent; but it could have been a figure of speech. The fact remains however, in regard to at least the closest to her, she is able to 'read' them well enough to know what their response to most things would be, which seems to suit someone as into role play as she is. More importantly is that when it comes to the things she's read off her friends, she likes to cheerily argue her point across supporting what she knows, regardless of how childish the argument becomes. ('well I think YOU'RE 'x'!' 'am not' 'yes!' 'no' 'YESSSSS YES YES YES' )

Even with a losing argument, she still tries- she's a stubborn girl after all, and when she does lose (and she does recognize when she's lost one despite that stubborn streak), the response will again be a 'sad face' and likely some angry blanket-biting to blow off the steam. But again, her preference for the positives will not allow this to remain as such. She's upset, but she looks to the better side of what's to come and focuses on that. She puts off asking him to play the Sgrub game with the others on the red team in fact, because she already knows what he'll say, and she doesn't want 'no' to be the answer. She even tries (loosly) to distract him from the matter, which she likely knows won't work anyway given who she's talking to- and gets 'mad' despite knowing that answer, furthering her childish reaction pattern.

Granted, when she says she's mad, she is mad, but it's not 'truly' mad in the sense most would think; at least in regard to simple things like Equius saying 'no you cannot be on their team'. Most would compare it (at the surface) to annoyance; she says she's mad, but tries to act happy regardless. She can't stay mad over things like that; because in the end, (in this example particularly) Equius has a point. He's right. He's the voice of reason that keeps her from acting on impulse all the time- this is evidenced by the fact that the flarp session which injured so many of her friends was one she had intended to partake in. It was only Equius' request to not do so that prevented her from harm herself- so while she gets upset about not being able to do what she wanted, she's at least relatively quick to understand why it's not such a good idea. Given time and thought, she can grasp some very strong concepts that most wouldn't come to think of... She even came to the conclusion that in order to be together with Karkat, it was likely that she would have to die. (And in fact, as her dead dreamself seen in the dream bubbles show, she was right.)

Thus, despite seemingly endless cheer and energy there are indeed hidden depths, ones she likely doesn't care to think about herself even. As someone who clearly prefers positives over negatives, and more particularly having fun, she doesn't seem to like showing when she's sad. She'll say she's nervous, or worried about something... But it's quite likely that, just as much as she considers some people 'super' or 'creepy', she's actually terrified. She doesn't like pointless violence; she herself states that she only kills what she eats, because, as she puts it, if she didn't (That is, if she attacked and killed more than necessary) then 'that would be mean'. She works in base emotions despite the complexity behind them- she describes things simply, and childishly, regardless of how well she knows the complexities at the emotion and situation's core. And it is only in the situations most dire- proven when she witnesses Equius' death at Gamzee's hands- that she reacts at a level truly beyond those seemingly simple reactions. Because Nepeta is better than that- she's kind, and no matter what happens to her doesn't want to do anything that could hurt someone else. It's only when someone else, someone close is hurt that the thought would even come to mind it seems.

And the fact is, until it gets to that point, she tries to take any negative and turn it into a positive; this is particularly evident in her online RP sessions, and even outside them, such as by 'gathering up all the brick pieces' from what Karkat's online jaw drop made and building a little house for them to sit in, or with Terezi, when she steered the RP away from killing her cub. She feels remorse for what happened to Tavros in the flarp session she didn't attend, and is additionally upset that she can't be on his team- but she quickly recovers to start the session with the blue team, and just as quickly recovers from discovering the fact that Aradia has been dead the entire time she's been speaking to her. Of course, she decides not to push how it happened- just thinking about the fact that Aradia is dead makes her sad after all! And she doesn't want to feel any worse. More importantly, she respects Aradia's privacy on the matter; proven when she promises her that she won't tell anyone else that she's in that state. This makes Nepeta one of the best listeners, in fact, something not many would catch from a glance. She listens, and thinks about what her words or actions will do; and while her own wishes obviously get in the way of that, she never lets this happen in regard to serious things; she cares more about others than herself in that regard.

In summary? Childish and naive in apparent nature yes, but in reality rather bright, if not a little over-dramatic in the emotive sense at times. She cares deeply for her friends, enough that she'll (attempt to) avenge them quite viciously, and more importantly enough that she takes a far less violent- less 'mean' option when she can, regardless of how impossible the option seems. She appears to be happy more often than not- but in reality she's quite empathetic, and while she seems to get over things, it's quite likely that she recalls them easily and gets upset by such things; it was a look to her shipping wall that brought her thoughts to so many of her friends being dead, and she quickly chose to think of something else rather than feel sad about it- and it's quite likely that if she thinks on sad things for more than a few moments, she will actually cry about it. She's a very emotive girl. She enjoys simple things; playing, drawing, being happy... And she wants her friends to feel the same way. It isn't necessarily what she says that makes her who she is- it's what she doesn't say.

And as happy as she can be, the times when she's sad and quiet and likely needs a hug are the ones that she will likely make sure no one ever sees, if only to keep them from being sad as well.

Sample Entry:

[A young girl wearing what looks to be a crudely made hat (was that someone's dress at one point??) seems to be scribbling away on a pad, leaning back against some bushes with a large and almost kitten-like smile. If one looks over her shoulder to see what she's drawing, it'll look sort of like an even younger child's idea of a comic. ...Almost. Her expressions ironically match the doodled double mouthed cat.]

*AC stretches from her mid-morning nap, purrplexed as to her suddenly missing tail! And her missing ears, and whiskers, and claws...*

[Head tilt- there are lots of things missing actually, even her clothes were gone.]

*AC gives up on figrring out what's missing, because theres just too much!*

[...Actually, so are her horns! She's not even troll looking, she's HUMAN looking, and while that is kind of cool, it's also actually really scary (but she's not thinking about that right now, uh-uh!) More drawing.]

*AC is also missing all of her things, and can't find a way to talk to all of her friends. )):

[Another pause, and then an idea as a scribbly map is created.]

*but maybe someone nice will help! she lives here right now, in the sturrange den with lots of flowers around it.*

[The note is stuck to the bush, and the girl smiles widely.]

There! That can't pawsibly go wrong!!

[...Well. ...It can.

But after a flash of a frown, she decides she'd rather not think about that and go back to finding anyone she knows. ......this place is weird.

...Back to 'hunting' everyone down then, she guesses.]
