Applications

• Please read over all the rules and information before applying in order to minimize any confusion before joining.

• If applying for a character that has already been dropped, it would be a good idea, though not required, to know something of their previous interactions. You are also free to pick up a dropped character with no memories of their previous time in Mayfield.

• All content for the personality and sample entry in your app must be written or roleplayed by you; for the personality section in particular, we do not accept copied text from wikis or other sources. Obviously, you may not copy your app from other players, whether in Mayfield or other games. Application plagiarism will result in a ban from the game.

• If you wish for your character to be placed in a specific house, please mention this in the relevant section of the application and specify that permission was obtained by the PCs already residing in that house. We will be operating by the Honor System for this, and there is no need for others to comment their permission in this post!

• Other special requests would also best go in the beginning of the application. Remember, grammar and spelling are important -- if your app contains errors, you will be asked to revise.

• Please post all applications or canon updates in this post; posting them elsewhere and linking to them from here may cause them to get changed later. Posting them here keeps us from having to save them.

When Applying, Fill Out the Following:

When Applying for an Original Character, Fill Out the Following

• Before applying, please look over any applications that were recently accepted to get an idea of what we're looking for.

• If you apply for a character that has already been reserved, we will inform you and ignore the application until the reserve runs out. You may not apply for more than two characters from the same canon. For the sample entry, you may write your own entry, or use a post from a musebox, dressing room, or other game. We recommend [community profile] testrun_box if you prefer the latter!

• After you're accepted, please follow all of the instructions given. You will need to reply to the acceptance, post your journal to the friend add page and your canon post, join the communities, and use the friend add page to update your journal. Once you're accepted, please introduce yourself on the community when you're ready to play.

• If your app is "Pending", do not freak out! This means that we need you to make some revisions, and does not mean you're rejected. We generally give players a chance to revise before rejecting them, but we will reject apps that do not address the concerns stated when we asked for a revision. If you have been rejected, our reply will clearly state this to be the case. If we have not gotten back to you yet, under no circumstance does this mean you are rejected. If it has been over a week since our last reply, it would be a good idea to contact us with a reminder, otherwise, please be patient!

• If you have received a "Pending" notice, you will have one week to supply us with your revisions, or your reserve will be considered expired and that someone else is free to apply for the character.

• The typical wait for a reply on apps may be anywhere from a day to a little over a week. If any part of your application requires a pending, it may be another week after your reply to that before we can get to you. We process a high volume of apps every round, so please be patient.

If you have not heard back on a pending for over a week after apps close, please send a PM directly to the mod account.

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED.

Character Name: Ted
Character Series: Suikoden
Character Age: 310 (physically 15)
Background: Biography from the Suikoden Wiki - canon point is after being captured by Windy
Personality: Ted’s life since age seven has had one overarching purpose: survive, and in doing so protect the Soul Eater. Having your village torched and a rune stuck on your hand by your grandfather, being told never to let it fall into the wrong hands, and then being cast out to live on your own isn’t the easiest thing for a little kid to make sense of, but it at least did a great job of impressing a few simple things into Ted’s mind: that the Soul Eater being kept away from evil was worth more than a village’s worth of lives, and that there was no one he could rely on but himself. As he made his way in the world, Ted learned to feed himself, shelter himself, and defend himself however he could. Ted had a short childhood and no one to teach him how to live afterwards, so what he knows is self-learned, but having survived for three hundred years he’s at least learned it thoroughly. His life was more or less destined to be solitary, considering his friendless beginnings and the immortality granted by the rune, but the Soul Eater’s nature makes it even more so -- the people Ted surrounds himself with would likely just die to be absorbed by the rune, which made isolation not only likely but desirable.

With that much weight hanging over him, it’s not too surprising that Ted’s had his fair share of angst about the Soul Eater and everything it entails. Being aware that everyone you get close to will probably die is bad enough -- carrying the rune that causes it and actually seeing it happen is far, far worse. For a long time, Ted saw no joy in life and refused to get close to anyone due to the rune’s curse, and the fact that he was willing to give his rune up to the Fog Ship’s guide even despite his duty to protect it and the less-than-thrilling terms of the deal show how miserable his life was carrying the Soul Eater.

What made more change than anything in Ted’s quality of life was being around the young, happy Tir McDohl. After 300 years of nothing good, Ted couldn’t possibly have expected anything much better out of living with the McDohl household, but the closeness of being like a part of Tir’s family combined with Tir’s infectious friendliness was able to slowly change that. Over the few years Ted lived next door to Tir, their friendship became real, and Ted began enjoying living despite everything that had happened to him. Since then, Ted has been far more cheerful, energetic, and easygoing.

One noticeable thing about Ted is that, underneath all the heavy backstory, he’s really kind of goofy. It’s not the easiest thing to see when he’s angsting, but after several years loosening up around Tir it’s become pretty prevalent. Ted may be over 300, but generally he doesn’t act any older than he looks. You could chalk it up partially to the fact that he never had a childhood and that his life with the McDohls is the first chance he’s gotten to live that way, and partially to his having such a solitary existence previously that he never learned too well how to interact with others. In any case, Ted on a day-to-day basis is a bit weird and pretty immature; at one point he gets into a fight with an eleven-year-old over being called a ‘punk’!

Finally, after spending nearly his whole life carrying the Soul Eater and its burden, it was an enormous relief for Ted to give it up -- even knowing that in doing so he was passing his fate along to his best friend. Afterwards, even knowing Windy will come after him again, he comments that he feels like he can sleep in peace for once. It’s difficult for much of anything to feel like a real issue after having experienced life with the Soul Eater for so long; so much of a weight has been lifted off his shoulders that not much can compete with the relief.

Abilities: As stated above, Ted knows how to take care of himself. He has good wilderness survival skills, compounded with everything one would pick up living on their own for 300 years. He can cook pretty decently, mainly in the sense of being able to throw pretty much anything together as a meal rather than being any kind of gourmet chef. Unsurprisingly, he’s also a skilled fighter. A bow and arrow are his main weapon, but he knows enough about self-defense that he can pick up and use pretty much anything; at one point, Tir comments on how good he is with a staff despite having never really used one before.

The Soul Eater granted immense magical power, but as Ted’s since passed it on to Tir, he no longer has either its offensive abilities or the immortality it grants.
