• Please read over all the rules and information before applying in order to minimize any confusion before joining.
• If applying for a character that has already been dropped, it would be a good idea, though not required, to know something of their previous interactions. You are also free to pick up a dropped character with no memories of their previous time in Mayfield.
• All content for the personality and sample entry in your app must be written or roleplayed by you; for the personality section in particular, we do not accept copied text from wikis or other sources. Obviously, you may not copy your app from other players, whether in Mayfield or other games. Application plagiarism will result in a ban from the game.
• If you wish for your character to be placed in a specific house, please mention this in the relevant section of the application and specify that permission was obtained by the PCs already residing in that house. We will be operating by the Honor System for this, and there is no need for others to comment their permission in this post!
• Other special requests would also best go in the beginning of the application. Remember, grammar and spelling are important -- if your app contains errors, you will be asked to revise.
• Please post all applications or canon updates in this post; posting them elsewhere and linking to them from here may cause them to get changed later. Posting them here keeps us from having to save them.

When Applying for an Original Character, Fill Out the Following
• Before applying, please look over any applications that were recently accepted to get an idea of what we're looking for.
• If you apply for a character that has already been reserved, we will inform you and ignore the application until the reserve runs out. You may not apply for more than two characters from the same canon. For the sample entry, you may write your own entry, or use a post from a musebox, dressing room, or other game. We recommend testrun_box if you prefer the latter!
• After you're accepted, please follow all of the instructions given. You will need to reply to the acceptance, post your journal to the friend add page and your canon post, join the communities, and use the friend add page to update your journal. Once you're accepted, please introduce yourself on the community when you're ready to play.
• If your app is "Pending", do not freak out! This means that we need you to make some revisions, and does not mean you're rejected. We generally give players a chance to revise before rejecting them, but we will reject apps that do not address the concerns stated when we asked for a revision. If you have been rejected, our reply will clearly state this to be the case. If we have not gotten back to you yet, under no circumstance does this mean you are rejected. If it has been over a week since our last reply, it would be a good idea to contact us with a reminder, otherwise, please be patient!
• If you have received a "Pending" notice, you will have one week to supply us with your revisions, or your reserve will be considered expired and that someone else is free to apply for the character.
• The typical wait for a reply on apps may be anywhere from a day to a little over a week. If any part of your application requires a pending, it may be another week after your reply to that before we can get to you. We process a high volume of apps every round, so please be patient.
• If you have not heard back on a pending for over a week after apps close, please send a PM directly to the mod account.
In canon, Germany first meets North Italy during World War I. He was in the middle of a mission when he stumbled upon a crate labelled "tomatoes" with an Italian on the inside claiming to be a tomato fairy. After some dialog between the two characters, Italy is revealed as the descendant of the Roman Empire. Germany is aghast and dreadfully confused by North Italy's behaviour--as he is throughout the series--and has a difficult time deciding if Italy is an incompetent soldier or in fact a genius by making Germany drop his guard.
After taking Italy as a prisoner, Germany proceeded to become even more confused. Germany couldn't comprehend why Italy had no motivation to try to escape, as a good soldier should. Eventually, two form an unlikely friendship and alliance. Italy visits during the interwar years, much to Germany's annoyance, at first. After all, he was trying to get all of those coo-coo clocks made to pay war reparations and all Italy was doing disrupting everything.
By the start of World War II, Germany formed an alliance with both Italy and Japan. Germany took the role as the leader of the group. He led training sessions for the three, and by going out of his way to save Italy on numerous occasions, such as when Italy got captured by the allied forces as a means to capture Germany. At this point, Germany and Austria are living together, symbolizing the Austrian Anschluss.
Germany engaged in a variety of activities during this arc, but perhaps one of the most important events was the aftermath of the Nazi-Soviet Nonaggression Pact. This was the point where Germany and Italy's friendship was confirmed, as Italy was worried he'd be replaced by Russia. However, this wasn't the case. If fact, Italy was Germany's first friend (with the exception of, perhaps, his brother.)
In the current era, Germany is shown efficiently leading world meetings by enforcing order. He has to yell in8 order to do it, but it stops the other nations from bickering among one another. He also participates in the G8 meetings, as Germany has one of the strongest economies. He lives in his own house now with his brother, Prussia, and his three dogs Aster, Blackie, and Berlitz.
For the most part, he is on good terms with the former allied nations.
Personality: Germany's personality is based on stereotypes of German society. He's hard-working, serious, and efficient. If he is given a job to do, he's going to make sure it's done thoroughly and properly. If it's paperwork that he has to do, it will be well documented to the finest detail. He takes pride in his work so mistakes reflect poorly onto him--he's a perfectionist to the point that he won't rest until the job and meets, if not exceeds, expectations. Take his house for example. He's a huge clean freak, so as long as he's around to maintain the condition of his home, it always shines.
When interacting with the other nations--and people he isn't close to in general--he is very formal and professional. He doesn't need to be friends with everyone he's working with in order to reach a certain goal. He's rather rigid in the manner, too. He is the type of man to have an agenda scheduled to the very minute; any sort of disruption in his routine can throw him off for the remainder of the day. In meetings, he enforces discussions in a professional and orderly fashion. Any other way is ineffective.
Despite being highly intelligent and methodical, when it comes to personal relationships, Germany is at a loss. He doesn't have a lot of experience in that department, which he's admitted on several occasions. It's difficult for him to grasp intangible concepts such as love. A reason for this is that when it comes down to it, there is not a concrete right or wrong, black and white answer. That's not to say he's incapable of experience such a thing, but he wouldn't know how to identify how he feels about another person, on top of not being able to handle "grey" areas well in general. In moments like this, when he is unsure of what he's feeling or how he should react in a certain circumstance, he consults self-help books written on the subject matter.
This isn't to say that he is completely emotionless, either. Germany is capable of having a full spectrum of emotions, from anger to happiness. He simply feels the more negative emotions more often than not. The easiest way to express this is that he's grumpy, prone to being irritable, annoyed, and resorting to yelling to get his point across if needed. He is the type to find a lot of contentment in his alone time, regardless of what he's doing to pass the time.
Germany is not a recluse, however. He needs social interaction like anyone else, but he can get by with the bare minimum; he's used to that. He would accept an invitation to see someone socially, for example. Depending upon the situation, he might be at ease or extremely uncomfortable--the latter tends to occur when the social environment takes a nosedive into unfamiliar or unexpected territory. This results in him either overreacting completely or misinterpreting it all together. His face would probably also be red all the to his ears. He is not a big "partyer" but he certainly enjoys going to the local bar with his brother and having a drink or ten. His recreational activities aren't limited to drinking, either. He enjoys a number of outdoor activities, alone or not.
Germany is sometimes mistaken for being the blushing virgin within the Hetalia fandom. He's not naive, but at the same time there are two extreme examples that have arisen in canon. In a conversation with Rome, a man he looks up to as a role model, he admitted of not having experience in physical relationships. In another case, Italy told the Allies that Germany enjoys hardcore porn--which ties into more German stereotyping. Whatever the case may be, Germany would never readily talk about such personal information with just anyone. Considering his age and having Prussia for a brother, he definitely knows a thing or two, if not from firsthand experience.
It really boils down to Germany liking to give everything concrete definition and to divide everything accordingly. It might be as simple as "appropriate" and "inappropriate," such as not wearing a shirt while working in the lawn is appropriate, but unnecessary nudity isn't. (That, and it's really impractical.)
At times he can be stubborn and set in his ways; if he makes his mind up about something, it can be difficult to change his mind. He's undogmatic and pragmatic, so when making important decisions he needs information from both sides.
Abilities: As a nation, Germany able to withstand more damage than a human. He's also more or less ageless. He's able to sustain damage and can heal rather quickly. At the same time, his existence is tied to the citizens of his country. If the state of Germany is dissolved, it's possible he could disappear all together. (It is also possible that certain death comes when people no longer consider themselves citizens of a state. If this is the case, it could explain Prussia's continued existence. While many people who do not study European history are unaware of Prussia, there are still some Germans that consider themselves Prussian, or even citizens of the DDR.)
Nationhood aside, Germany is strong. He spend a lot of his free time working out and making sure he stays in prime physical condition. This means he could be a formidable opponent in a physical altercation. It's possible that he can be beaten in a fight, but it's always important to keep in mind that this is the personification of the country that fought a long-term two-front war against the combined might of over twenty countries--twice.
Prussia and Italy are definitely two weaknesses for him. Germany has a bit of a brother complex; despite having their differences and disagreements, Prussia is still his brother and the man who raised him. Even though he's an adult now, he's still very gullible where Prussia is concerned. If Prussia says that Tinkerbell exists and Germany can't find any evidence to prove otherwise, you can bet he'll believe in Tinkerbell.
Whether it's because Italy is his friend, or if he simply perceives him as being weak and defenceless, Germany always feels the need to come to his rescue, regardless of how inconvenient it is for him to do so. This means that Italy can be used as leverage against Germany, along with anyone else he cares about.
Germany also has a secret sweet tooth and enjoys eating cake from time to time. But don't tell anyone; he sticks to a strict diet, you know.
Sample Entry:
[Germany--or Ludwig, as he goes by to reduce confusion--isn't sure how long he's been here. It might be days, weeks, or even longer. It's hard to tell because each day consists of the same routine, over and over. Ludwig has adapted to it, as he's used to having a schedule, but this is much different. The behaviour of the natives here is quite unnerving, actually.
It's always the same from them. Too polite, too mechanical. It's something Ludwig would have preferred when he was back home, especially after having to deal with rather unpleasant people and situations, but now that he's experiencing it, he's realised that wanting utopian ideals is rather foolish.
Now he feels like he could break at any moment. Not only because it is so easy to get irritated with these people, but this lifestyle is too superficial and too slow. He's too accustomed to working himself to the point of exhaustion from working against financial and international crises, to going home to his brother and three dogs.
The pressure here isn't the same. Perhaps he should be enjoying it, but he can't. He can't stand that after work every day--after the same thing over and over--he returns home to a wife and child he doesn't know or love. It's a lifestyle he's never had before, and never even wanted.
His fake family members aren't particularly bad, though. He just hates the concept. But---now that he's back 'home' again, it's time to deal with them once more. In the kitchen, his 'wife' is preparing dinner. Much to his chagrin, the kitchen isn't as clean as he would prefer it. Immediately, he fills the sink up with hot, soapy water to begin cleaning behind her.]
