• Please read over all the rules and information before applying in order to minimize any confusion before joining.
• If applying for a character that has already been dropped, it would be a good idea, though not required, to know something of their previous interactions. You are also free to pick up a dropped character with no memories of their previous time in Mayfield.
• All content for the personality and sample entry in your app must be written or roleplayed by you; for the personality section in particular, we do not accept copied text from wikis or other sources. Obviously, you may not copy your app from other players, whether in Mayfield or other games. Application plagiarism will result in a ban from the game.
• If you wish for your character to be placed in a specific house, please mention this in the relevant section of the application and specify that permission was obtained by the PCs already residing in that house. We will be operating by the Honor System for this, and there is no need for others to comment their permission in this post!
• Other special requests would also best go in the beginning of the application. Remember, grammar and spelling are important -- if your app contains errors, you will be asked to revise.
• Please post all applications or canon updates in this post; posting them elsewhere and linking to them from here may cause them to get changed later. Posting them here keeps us from having to save them.

When Applying for an Original Character, Fill Out the Following
• Before applying, please look over any applications that were recently accepted to get an idea of what we're looking for.
• If you apply for a character that has already been reserved, we will inform you and ignore the application until the reserve runs out. You may not apply for more than two characters from the same canon. For the sample entry, you may write your own entry, or use a post from a musebox, dressing room, or other game. We recommend testrun_box if you prefer the latter!
• After you're accepted, please follow all of the instructions given. You will need to reply to the acceptance, post your journal to the friend add page and your canon post, join the communities, and use the friend add page to update your journal. Once you're accepted, please introduce yourself on the community when you're ready to play.
• If your app is "Pending", do not freak out! This means that we need you to make some revisions, and does not mean you're rejected. We generally give players a chance to revise before rejecting them, but we will reject apps that do not address the concerns stated when we asked for a revision. If you have been rejected, our reply will clearly state this to be the case. If we have not gotten back to you yet, under no circumstance does this mean you are rejected. If it has been over a week since our last reply, it would be a good idea to contact us with a reminder, otherwise, please be patient!
• If you have received a "Pending" notice, you will have one week to supply us with your revisions, or your reserve will be considered expired and that someone else is free to apply for the character.
• The typical wait for a reply on apps may be anywhere from a day to a little over a week. If any part of your application requires a pending, it may be another week after your reply to that before we can get to you. We process a high volume of apps every round, so please be patient.
• If you have not heard back on a pending for over a week after apps close, please send a PM directly to the mod account.
Name: Bear Personal Journal:naturalcyber Contact Info: AIM: naturalcyber Other Characters Played: N/A Preferred Housing: N/A?
Character Name: The Summoner (No idea of last name but some variation of "Peter" would be hilarious.) Character Series: Homestuck Character Age: Young adult. 11-12 sweeps/24-26 years Background:MSPA wiki Personality: The ancestors don't get much screentime, if at all, but Summoner's life and basic personality are described in Mindfang's journal, and it's also been mentioned that they share many similarities with their descendants in basic personality traits. However, because of their vastly different lives, they could be quite different. Summoner is one case, because where his descendent fell to depression, meekness and poor self esteem due in part to the society he was forced to grow up in, Summoner gained the courage to fight back and rebel. On the other hand, it's implied (due to the legends that sprang up about him involving taking children away to paradise) that he shares his sense of compassion for everyone, even people he should rightly hate.
Summoner was born very nearly the lowest of the low in a very strict caste system, and eventually rose to lead a violent rebellion against his "betters" so to say he unquestioningly respects authority would be an outright lie. However, that isn't to say that he has no respect for authority, just that he despises inequality, and will boldly try to thwart it where he can. Merit is the only thing that he'll give his respect to, and if he doesn't believe an authority figure has merit he'll give them merry (and not so merry) hell.
He's charismatic and a skilled leader, military and otherwise, and was able to convince the downtrodden and meek to rise up even against those far more powerful than them. He has the loyalty and bravery to command unquestioning respect. He's also described as the most fearless and skilled of the Cavalreapers. He has the perseverance, the intelligence, and tactics to turn his men into a fighting force to be reckoned with, resulting in a nearly successful rebellion. He also had the strength of personality and attractive qualities to make Mindfang become his matesprit, but also the ability to put his feelings aside and kill her when it was necessary. He fought with his rebels loyally presumably to the very end, and resulted in the adults being banished from the planet and the stories of "Pupa Pan" to start up. Pupa Pan, in this case, being the troll analogue of Peter Pan, and the allusions drawn are very intentional. Summoner's character is a shout out to the various Peter Pan stories.
From these allusions to Peter Pan (and Rufio) it can be assumed that he has some things in common with those characters. Things like a propensity towards mischief, whimsy, and a sense of justice and intense compassion for others. He loves all kinds of adventure and fun and games and is chock full of joie de vivre. Unfortunately this means he can also be inconsistent and too proud for his own good on occasion, but life experiences have tempered his worst qualities down a little to more manageable levels. Where Peter Pan and Rufio were only boys, Summoner is very much an adult and a trained soldier. He did learn discipline and self-control along the way.
Compassion, love of equality, fierce pride and bravery, adventurous, and passion in general are a good way to sum him up.
Abilities: General troll abilities: Stronger and more durable than a human, with better senses (especially vision and probably hearing--they're a nocturnal species).
Flight: He has huge wings in his own body and is fully flight capable. The wings are probably more delicate than the rest of him and they also leave behind a trail of bronze glittery dust everywhere but they're more than strong enough to keep him aloft and maneuverable for as long as his stamina holds out.
Psychic Ability, Communion: Communion is said to be a very rare and powerful ability. With it he is able to control and understand/communicate with any beast or creature, including those that are effectively gods. There's a certain amount of finesse involved, but he was capable of commanding a whole army of loyal beasts with his abilities so he's quite skilled in using it.
Sample Entry:
[The voice on the phone sounds too chipper to be allowed. And yet, he obviously exists and is indeed that energetic.]
Good morning! Haha! My words to the sky mornings are breathtaking. I'm thankful I got the chance to see them in person.
[A pause, and his voice edges into a tone that's slightly more serious under the upbeat tone.]
But mornings aren't what I want to talk about. I've been here long enough to get my bearings now. There's something I noticed. On the surface we don't look very organized! The surface hides many things. I know that well. So if there's organization and information being shared I want to know about it.
If there isn't we need to start one! Some of us have been here long. Others just arrived. We all have experience and knowledge that can be put to use. If we stand together nothing will see us fall!
Come. My fellows we must work together to find our way home.
We'll need to see a little more in the way of personality. You do a good job of explaining what we know and can infer from canon, but as this character will rely a lot on your own interpretation, we need you to go more in depth on his personality and traits even if it involves your own headcanon.
The following is all headcanon, though based on and expanding on the above. I'll go into a bit of his history as well, since that's not really elaborated on in canon either.
In reference to ancestors and descendants being much like each other, when he was very young, he was very much like Tavros is in canon, though without the passage of time to develop the severe lack of confidence. He just wanted to live and let live with everyone around him and have fun. Weapons were more of a game, and he didn't seriously fight if he could help it. That got beaten out of him quite brutally (an Alternia with adults is probably even less safe than the one we see in canon, considering) but what kept him from losing his self-esteem and confidence was that his ability and what skills he had allowed him to fight back well enough to survive. It also helped that he didn't have someone antagonizing him who could control his mind. His ability was his primary defense while young, because his lusus was small and he himself was pretty small too, so he developed it to a far greater degree than Tavros does and is much more aware of how powerful it can be, when used correctly and creatively.
That said, he surrounded himself with beasts far more than trolls, and was something of a wild-child. Manners are something he didn't make an effort to really learn until later in life and they can be prone to slipping. Take both of those things together, and he was a very cocky little shit by the time he ended up joining adult society and not at all used to responsibility or not just going off and doing whatever he wanted when he wanted.
He did not take to either easily. He learned the hard way, via the school of hard knocks, but in the end, he learned well, and being brave and fearless and having a go-getter attitude served him very well as a soldier. Cavalreaper training is probably something like bootcamp for marines or special forces, and maybe even more extreme, so he did learn about structure and had his wild impulses, excess pride and carefree way of life tempered.
But he didn't lose what he was when he was young at all, and in fact found things like joy and spontaneity and just having fun and laughter kept him going. His positive outlook is his greatest strength. There's very little that can truly get him down. He can get tired, but he's never quite beaten down. He greets everything with a grin and mischief and treats the world like a game and challenge to be overcome. And he loves to play.
He also loves kids. It feeds into the legends that will spring up about him after his death but he will do anything for them. He views them as the hope for the future and as innocent of the crimes and prejudices adults get up to--or at least able to learn otherwise, in the case of older ones--and will do whatever he can to see them safe and protected. His compassion and love for kids can't be measured, and it's probably his greatest weakness in the eyes of his enemies, and no doubt ruthlessly exploited.
His compassion for adults is far less so. I do headcanon that he's a follower of Signless, probably from during his early time in the Cavalreapers, though he doesn't agree on everything. He agrees about equality, but not about peaceful methods. He thinks it needs to be fought for if it's to ever be gained like he's had to fight tooth and nail for everything in life. That said, he tends not to hate individuals (with the exception of the Condesce) and instead hates the institutions of inequality. Teal and above will have to work very hard earn his respect, and if they prove a threat he will be ruthless about eliminating it, but he rarely hates (and when he does it's fleeting. A fling, if you will). This is what allowed him to learn to trust and eventually care for Mindfang as a matesprit. Mindfang's influence helped improve his people (and probably public speaking) skills to a great degree. He still tends to be blunt and direct, and doesn't like to resort to word games and mind games unless he absolutely has to.
These traits, along with his steadfast loyalty and creativity and intelligence, allowed him to rocket through the ranks. By the time he reached the top he was already planning rebellion, and started using what resources he had to start planning. He planned first, and was careful not to let on what he was up to until he was ready, which helped his rebellion become the extreme threat it was. His pupation and growing of wings is one of the main things that starts it off. The mythical nature spurs on his followers and he instantly becomes a symbol of the potential of lowbloods to rise up far beyond their station. But also a target. He loves his wings and flying though, and is very well aware of being a symbol. He litters his speech with references as a reminder, and will show off his wings at any chance, provided it's not in the middle of battle.
The rebellion gets off to an impressive start but there are losses a plenty, and at some point Mindfang and his matespritship with her become a threat to the rebellion--most likely from within, because of followers far less trusting and openminded about color than he. He chooses the rebellion over his own happiness and kills her. It was a difficult decision and a ruthless one but he doesn't regret it. His feelings for her, however, never changed. He misses her but doesn't let his grief weigh him down. He clings to his positive outlook, and hopes to see her again in the afterlife.
The rebellion, up against the Condesce and all her loyal forces, was probably doomed from the start, but he fights to the bitter end. Once he knows he won't live to see revolution, he tries his best to spread the message, and fully plans to go out as a martyr, either in battle or via capture and torture. The story spreads enough that Condesce not only has to ban it from being talked about but has to remove everyone that experienced it from the planet because almost every adult ended up being involved, it's kind of hard not to have it spread--an attempt to at least keep it from the next generations. This works, partly, and the story is suppressed and warped down into the Pupa Pan stories instead.
