Applications

• Please read over all the rules and information before applying in order to minimize any confusion before joining.

• If applying for a character that has already been dropped, it would be a good idea, though not required, to know something of their previous interactions. You are also free to pick up a dropped character with no memories of their previous time in Mayfield.

• All content for the personality and sample entry in your app must be written or roleplayed by you; for the personality section in particular, we do not accept copied text from wikis or other sources. Obviously, you may not copy your app from other players, whether in Mayfield or other games. Application plagiarism will result in a ban from the game.

• If you wish for your character to be placed in a specific house, please mention this in the relevant section of the application and specify that permission was obtained by the PCs already residing in that house. We will be operating by the Honor System for this, and there is no need for others to comment their permission in this post!

• Other special requests would also best go in the beginning of the application. Remember, grammar and spelling are important -- if your app contains errors, you will be asked to revise.

• Please post all applications or canon updates in this post; posting them elsewhere and linking to them from here may cause them to get changed later. Posting them here keeps us from having to save them.

When Applying, Fill Out the Following:

When Applying for an Original Character, Fill Out the Following

• Before applying, please look over any applications that were recently accepted to get an idea of what we're looking for.

• If you apply for a character that has already been reserved, we will inform you and ignore the application until the reserve runs out. You may not apply for more than two characters from the same canon. For the sample entry, you may write your own entry, or use a post from a musebox, dressing room, or other game. We recommend [community profile] testrun_box if you prefer the latter!

• After you're accepted, please follow all of the instructions given. You will need to reply to the acceptance, post your journal to the friend add page and your canon post, join the communities, and use the friend add page to update your journal. Once you're accepted, please introduce yourself on the community when you're ready to play.

• If your app is "Pending", do not freak out! This means that we need you to make some revisions, and does not mean you're rejected. We generally give players a chance to revise before rejecting them, but we will reject apps that do not address the concerns stated when we asked for a revision. If you have been rejected, our reply will clearly state this to be the case. If we have not gotten back to you yet, under no circumstance does this mean you are rejected. If it has been over a week since our last reply, it would be a good idea to contact us with a reminder, otherwise, please be patient!

• If you have received a "Pending" notice, you will have one week to supply us with your revisions, or your reserve will be considered expired and that someone else is free to apply for the character.

• The typical wait for a reply on apps may be anywhere from a day to a little over a week. If any part of your application requires a pending, it may be another week after your reply to that before we can get to you. We process a high volume of apps every round, so please be patient.

If you have not heard back on a pending for over a week after apps close, please send a PM directly to the mod account.

Background: (riddled with spoilers up until the canon point I'm taking her from-- just a warning!) Anri’s family was already a fraying thread to begin with— rather, it was almost as if it weren’t a family at all. Familial love doesn’t - and never did - exist for her. To her, it’s a lie, and she wouldn’t be wrong in saying that.

The only “love” she saw as a child was her father’s rage; his fury. His failing business fueled his anger, and he’d come home every night to take out his disappointment and frustration on her and her mother. It built up to no end. One night, she found herself trapped in the hands of her father. His grasp robbed her of her breath - his hands kept a tight, unrelenting grip on her throat. Through what blurred sight she had, though, she caught site of a dark figure behind her father. Her savior, perhaps?

Through a swift, swinging movement, the figure killed her father. A hoarse cry was the last she’d heard from the man before he fell to the floor beside her. The murderer, now standing clear before the girl, smiled. Her mother killed him. Her mother had been the one to so viciously lead this man to his death.

Her mother brought her weapon - a now blood stained blade - to her own body not long after. Before piercing her body, she offered a last few words to her beloved daughter only to then depart:

“I love you, darling.”

Grotesque splashes of red painted the room, and all that was left of her broken family were their mutilated corpses. Anri wasn’t sure what to make of anything— her eyes darted to and fro, and distress wracked her body and almost sent her into a frenzy. But she composed herself. She took in the sight of her mother and father with a deep breath, then looked to the blade.

The sword. Much like she, it was covered in her parents blood. She took hold of the blade, Saika. She and the demon sword had become one; their power shared. Saika existed to cut— to “love”. It existed to “love” humanity, and travelled from host to host to fulfil that want. But the loss of her parents had caused her to lose the ability to love and to care. She’d lost the only things she could love, so Saika’s power was cancelled out.

But she used Saika. She used Saika to harbor her love. She became a leech, and lived off of others to carry on in her life. For the most part, her middle school life was that of a parasite. She met Harima Mika, and clung to her existence like a shadow - oddly enough, this behavior was reciprocated in the way that Mika only used Anri as a "foil", she says.

The two were friends of sorts for the most part of middle school, and things remained the way they were until both Anri and Mika took the entrance exam at Raira Academy. It was soon after that Mika vanished. She left little behind— of course, she left Anri a message via text to settle any concerns that arose. But there was no trace of the girl. It was distressing, but no one ever saw her cry or break down because of it. She was unphased for the most part.

In fact, she took it as an opportunity to surpass Mika. On her first day at Raira, she took the initiative to become class representative— although not present at the time, Anri felt that she’d become one step closer to overshadowing Mika.

It was through that decision that she met Ryuugamine Mikado and Kida Masaomi - and, indirectly, the leaders of the other two reckoning forces in Ikebukuro. She may not have explicitly told herself such, but the three were almost definitely friends. Their relationship was something of the sort, surely.

However close they were, though, they were still distant. Terribly distant. It became apparent to Anri that the secrets splitting them apart had gradually come to affect both Mikado and Masaomi's behavior-- Masaomi's moreso, thus taking the liberty of investigating the situation and taking matters into her own hands.

But what she had found was terribly distressing. Masaomi, delegating orders as the superior to the Yellow Scarves, was something she couldn't possibly have imagined.

A further frightening revelation came only nights later. Anri realized the need to confront the two boys became increasingly important-- breaking into the Yellow Scarves hideout as a means of confronting Masaomi. Her intervention was conveniently timed; at the time of her arrival, what remnants of the Blue Squares remained scattered over Ikebukuro had come together and overthrown Masaomi's reign over the Yellow Scarves. She had momentarily halted the conflict with her presence, but something much, much worse came about only seconds after she had made her entrance.

Mikado came in with the Black Biker - to which she'd acquainted with as Celty - and chaos stirred up once more. While conflict broke out left, right and center, the three were left in their astonishment and awe at the situation they'd been presented with. Neither party knew what to do.

Immediately after the incident, Masaomi was taken to hospital. After his quick recovery, he left Ikebukuro with little more than a letter stating his departure.

Disregarding Masaomi's abrupt leaving (perhaps the incident had been more of a shock for him than anyone else among the three), Mikado and Anri resumed daily life once more as if nothing had happened. Their second year at Raira began; the two were class representatives once again. Things were ordinary, mundane-- but they were better off that way.

The two had promised each other - well, neither had explicitly stated such, but there was a silent consensus - not to bring up the subject of "that night"'s occurrences on the basis that Masaomi needed to return before either of them could properly sort out the matter. With thatpromise settled, both managed to live relatively quietly. The calm before the storm, some people might have called it.

A boy - a curious little first-year that looked no older than a child beginning his first year in middle school - had approached them on the request that they give him a tour of Ikebukuro. Anri, Mikado and their junior (namely, Kuronuma Aoba) had gone out with the right intentions, but the day noticeably worsened as they continued on. The newly formed Raira trio had only scraped away unharmed after being approached by a group with malicious intent, and had further more disappointed Aoba and his expectations with the inability to give a proper tour of the city at all.

It was then that Anri began to find it increasingly harder to keep their secrets untouched. She recognized the progressive changes in Mikado and his behavior, and it was apparent that he'd involved himself in something much, much worse - as to what, Anri wasn't entirely sure, but she determined that Aoba had his own ties to the situation.

Much to her horror, Mikado had only responded coldly to her interrogation. She'd definitely underestimated whatever was going on-- his reply was of most surprise to her, though.

"Stay out of my business, and I'll stay out of yours."

She'd lost a friend - one of her best friends - again.
Personality: While your mother may have told you not to judge books by their front covers, Anri is very much so what she appears to be-- that bespectacled young girl who's probably much too quiet for her own good. It’s not wrong to assume such. She’s shy, and a little awkward sometimes, but she’s not mute. Making conversation isn’t one of her strong points - that much is obvious - but she’s always polite.

While her docile appearance may give off the impression, she's not a pushover. She’s courageous, but not ridiculously so. She’ll be aware of what she’s about to involve herself in, and she’ll consciously intervene if it means doing what she wants to (and needs to) do. She’s perfectly willing to go to any extent to save what she holds dear.

With that in mind, it goes to show that it’s hard to break that sort of mindset when she desires a particular outcome. She has no qualms with what she needs to do— no matter how ruthless. She won’t lie and she won’t cover it up either. She personally chooses to keep things that way, and she doesn’t mind it. Others might see her under a negative light because of that, but it doesn’t concern her.

Her determination can be scary, but it’s always for a worthwhile cause. Her life will always be on the line for someone else’s sake, and it’s because she cares. She doesn’t really understand it, but it’s probably out of love (despite declaring she cannot feel or convey the emotion) too— platonic or otherwise.

While strong-willed when situations call for it, her own defences - both physical and mental - are incredibly weak. If she feels that she’s in danger, she’ll simply act as if she isn’t there. It’s almost delusional, but she tries to act as if it never happens to her. She removes herself from reality, and hopes that the knots will eventually unravel in their own time. It’s her own form of a non-existent barrier that filters out anything that she doesn’t want to see or here - and as terrible as it is, it works for her. That’s all that matters.

She’s much less concerned about her own well-being in comparison to others, and that’s probably the main reason why she stands there and acts as if there’s nothing wrong. Others might think of her way of living as a pathetic excuse, but she doesn’t mind it. Living off of others is the only way she can live, no matter how much she wishes to be less of a burden to others.

In the end, she doesn’t really understand her own emotions. She can be that nervous little girl who reserves conversation to the small few she barely considers her friends, or she can stand up tall and defend what she believes in. Her past is a heavy weight on her shoulders, and it’s probably the main reason why she behaves the way she does, but it’s inevitable. That’s just how she is.

Abilities: Anri has her hands on the demon blade, Saika. She and the sword are, quite literally, one-- her arm is like a sheath for the blade, and she can summon it and retract it at will. When in use, her eyes glow red - and the same applies for her Children (see below).

Saika’s primary ability allows Anri to control others through a telepathic link of sorts. To create that link, a victim must be cut by Saika - through this, the victim is “cursed” (for lack of a better term). With the link established, Anri can communicate through telepathic means and issue orders that are to be followed through. At full power, very few can resist the curse through sheer willpower and determination (only two people have done so in the past).

The simplest way to explain the way how Saika works is like this: Saika plays the role of the Mother. Once you’ve been cut, you become her Child. When under her control, you’re never aware of it. Saika, essentially, puts your consciousness asleep and does all the work. From beginning to end, you won’t recall having been controlled.

Anri very rarely uses this ability without good cause— the odd occasion being where she decides the need to implement drastic measures to save someone else, but she usually does the dirty work herself. She’s not heartless nor selfish enough to throw someone else out for her own sake.

[There is not but the slightest stir within the classroom. The tense air isn't settling very well in a particular girl's lungs, making whatever she needs to do much more difficult than it should be. This girl - Anri - stands at the front, gaze lowered. It's apparent that she doesn't want to be of particular attention for too long.]

A-Ah-- I'm.. Sonohara Anri.

[Introductions - no, conversations in general - aren't her strong point, and it comes out very clearly in her wavering tone. Mahogany pools drift from figure to figure, but they don't linger too long on any particular person.]

I.. um, I'll be a part of this class for the remainder of the year.

[A slight cough to clear her throat, then a bow to wrap up her speech.]

Please look after me.
