Applications

• Please read over all the rules and information before applying in order to minimize any confusion before joining.

• If applying for a character that has already been dropped, it would be a good idea, though not required, to know something of their previous interactions. You are also free to pick up a dropped character with no memories of their previous time in Mayfield.

• All content for the personality and sample entry in your app must be written or roleplayed by you; for the personality section in particular, we do not accept copied text from wikis or other sources. Obviously, you may not copy your app from other players, whether in Mayfield or other games. Application plagiarism will result in a ban from the game.

• If you wish for your character to be placed in a specific house, please mention this in the relevant section of the application and specify that permission was obtained by the PCs already residing in that house. We will be operating by the Honor System for this, and there is no need for others to comment their permission in this post!

• Other special requests would also best go in the beginning of the application. Remember, grammar and spelling are important -- if your app contains errors, you will be asked to revise.

• Please post all applications or canon updates in this post; posting them elsewhere and linking to them from here may cause them to get changed later. Posting them here keeps us from having to save them.

When Applying, Fill Out the Following:

When Applying for an Original Character, Fill Out the Following

• Before applying, please look over any applications that were recently accepted to get an idea of what we're looking for.

• If you apply for a character that has already been reserved, we will inform you and ignore the application until the reserve runs out. You may not apply for more than two characters from the same canon. For the sample entry, you may write your own entry, or use a post from a musebox, dressing room, or other game. We recommend [community profile] testrun_box if you prefer the latter!

• After you're accepted, please follow all of the instructions given. You will need to reply to the acceptance, post your journal to the friend add page and your canon post, join the communities, and use the friend add page to update your journal. Once you're accepted, please introduce yourself on the community when you're ready to play.

• If your app is "Pending", do not freak out! This means that we need you to make some revisions, and does not mean you're rejected. We generally give players a chance to revise before rejecting them, but we will reject apps that do not address the concerns stated when we asked for a revision. If you have been rejected, our reply will clearly state this to be the case. If we have not gotten back to you yet, under no circumstance does this mean you are rejected. If it has been over a week since our last reply, it would be a good idea to contact us with a reminder, otherwise, please be patient!

• If you have received a "Pending" notice, you will have one week to supply us with your revisions, or your reserve will be considered expired and that someone else is free to apply for the character.

• The typical wait for a reply on apps may be anywhere from a day to a little over a week. If any part of your application requires a pending, it may be another week after your reply to that before we can get to you. We process a high volume of apps every round, so please be patient.

If you have not heard back on a pending for over a week after apps close, please send a PM directly to the mod account.

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED.

Rita Mordio|Tales of Vesperia|Reserved|Part 2

[personal profile] geniusmage 2012-02-06 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
In a shocking revelation, it turned out that Alexei was a traitor and had captured Estelle to use her power as a Child of the Full Moon to resurrect an ancient weapon known as Zaude. Raven turned out to have been living a double life: Both as Raven, member of the guild Altosk, and as Commander Scwhann, a knight indebted to Alexei. Schwann was instructed to eliminate Yuri, Rita, and the rest of the group. However, they eventually got through to him, and he protected them and allowed them to go after Alexei.

At the top of Zaude, Alexei activate the weapon, or at least what he thought was a weapon. It was actually a barrier. A barrier protecting them from the ancient catastrophe: The Adephagos. With the Adephagos released, time was running out and it was up to Rita to figure out a formula that could balance the aer in the world and drive back the Adephagos. She constructed a formula that combined the remains of an Entelexia along with an aer krene and Estelle’s power that would convert the aer into a substance known as mana. The formula worked way, way better than expected. It converted the Apatheia (Remains of an Entelexia/An extremely potent Blastia Core) into a corporeal being known as a Spirit. The Spirits were not only able to regulate the flow of aer, but were also a sort of antidote towards the Adephagos and the only way to combat it. They created four great elemental Spirits with the Apatheia, but their power still wasn’t nearly enough to eliminate with the Adephagos. The only feasible solution was to convert every single Blastia in the world into a Spirit in order to combat the Adephagos. Rita constructed a device, aptly named by Karol as “Vesperia No. 1,” that would act as an artificial Dein Nomos (The sword of Duke, who controlled the aer at Keiv Moc) and focus together all of the power from the Spirits to destroy the Adephagos. Rita, with the help of a few other mages from Asipo constructed a network between all of the Blastia in the world. When Vesperia No. 1 would be activated close enough to the Adephagos, all of the Blastia in the world would be converted at once and gather to combat the great catastrophe in the sky.

While Rita and the others were continuing their quest, the mysterious Duke was working towards his own goals. Rather than work with the group towards their solution, he sought to create his own. He saw humans as selfish creatures always inclined to betray each other, he saw them as a taint towards the beauty and splendor of the natural world, along with their wretched blastia. By raising an ancient ruin from the mountains around Aspio known as the Floating Castle of Tarquaran, he sought to destroy the Adephagos with the combined energy of every human life. He would rather exterminate them all than change the world like Yuri and his party intended.

Before setting off towards Tarquaran, Rita snuck out to check on her calculations for the Vesperia No. 1, but ended up speaking with Judith, who was earlier revealed to have been the infamous “Dragon freak.” Rita wasn’t too resentful of her anymore; as she understood that Judith was just trying to protect what was important to her in her own way. Seeing as without any blastia to destroy anymore, she wondered what Judith was going to do with her life now that she’d essentially lost what her original purpose for living was. Judith asked Rita the same question, because without any blastia research to do, what could she devote herself to? Rita, while sounding rather nervous and unsure, remarked that she still had a lot of things that she could research. She revealed how much she’d changed over the course of her journey, how she realized that there are things that she can believe in besides blastia, and just how much she’s grown attached to everyone in their group. Judith’s reply is similar, citing how she’ll just travel the world with her friend and Entelexia, Ba’ul. Rita mentions that she should take Estelle with her, as there’s still a lot the princess needs to see in this world. Judith agrees, but mentions how lonely it’ll be without Rita. Flushed and embarrassed, Rita admits that she could probably come along if they really wanted her to. But between then and that, stood one long, crisis of a day.

“…All the different people, different things on this journey….you know?”
“Yeah, I do. I never dreamed I’d end up like this. …I don’t want to go back.”

Upon further examination of Tarquaran after they had begun their, ascent, it seemed as though it was yet another stroke of genius by the ancient Gerios civilization that had invented the blastia. Like Zaude, it too seemed to be a weapon, and Duke was sitting atop, ready to eliminate all life on Terca Lumereis. After a long, enduring ascent the group finally came face to face with Duke on the summit of Tarquaran and attempted one last time to sway him to their side of things. Each of them stated their plan and their convictions. They pleaded that the world was evolving and changing for the better, and to just obliterate everything out of fear for what that change might bring was the wrong thing to do. But Duke countered with his own ideals, and it became clear that he was not going to just give up without a fight. He lifted Dein Nomos towards the group and prepared to fight for his vision of the world, as it should be. A world he would risk his life to preserve.

“Young mage…Can you truly stand by while all this world’s blastia are lost…?”
“I don’t care. My conviction is what mattered. My faith in blastia… …Actually, it was more like love.”
“In the end, though, they were not worth risking your life to save.”
“What are you, stupid? It’s not about ‘risking my life.’ Even without blastia, there are plenty of things in this world worth loving.”
Abandoning the old for the convenience of the new…Perhaps that would work…
But I for one, will risk my life. Though I must endure the scorn of youth. I will risk my life to protect this world!”

Personality: Rita isn’t the kind of character that can be summed up into a single adjective. Her dimensions are numerous and she has a life of pure peculiarity that lends itself to her eccentric existence.

But most obviously, and perhaps, most prominent in Rita is her hot-blooded, brash, say-what’s-on-my-mind attitude. This behavior is a result of her minimal contact with other people in social situations. She never built the kind of social skills that result in caring about what other people think, or being tactful towards other people’s feelings. It isn’t that she speaks without thinking and comes off as harsh, it’s that she is brutally honest regardless of whom it is she’s speaking to. She’s certainly rude with her honestly, and won’t spare several insults if you’re getting on her nerves. Yuri notes her as the type to hold a grudge, and if you cross her in the wrong way, she isn’t going to forget it. Even as close and compassionate as she becomes towards Estelle, she constantly finds herself in moments where she speaks her true feelings a little too loudly and accidentally hurts the girl’s feelings.

Similarly from her life without parents, friends, or a family to support her, Rita gained incredible autonomy, which only served to foster her brilliance. She never had to rely on anyone for anything. She never took handouts and wouldn’t dare take assistance from someone else. She even goes as far as to show disdain for those who rely solely on others, scoffing at the sorry state of the Guilds after the Don was killed. Individuality, thinking for yourself, and not conforming into a blind follower are all traits she values in herself as well as others.

Rita is well aware of how smart she is, and is confident enough to rely on herself and herself only. She became hyper realistic growing up in the way that she did, always peaking towards the logical conclusion rather than the idyllic conclusion. With Rita it always follows the scientific method. Hypothesis, Test, Record! Logic rules all under the lenses of her pink goggles. You can constantly find her talking to herself, carefully examining her environment and analyzing it. In a world where Rita doesn’t know what’s going on or how it works, she’d be distressed to the point of self-harm.

Though her interests remained mostly among blastia, throughout her journey with Yuri and Estelle, she came to find other things she could love and study, and so long as there was a world she could keep learning and keep discovering things. She isn’t afraid of failing or messing up if it means she can make a discovery, if it means that she can grow.

In the wake of her hyper realistic attitude and mindset, things that can’t be explained such as ghosts or curses kind of…cause her to completely wig out. If something can’t be explained, it couldn’t possibly exist! Because…that would be terrifying! This is one of her few true weaknesses when it comes to phobia, and can easily be exploited, though you’ll probably just get punched in the arm.

Rita has always been pretty adamant about hiding any positive feelings towards others. Any time someone suggests that she may be acting warmly or kindly, she’ll quickly dismiss it with a flustered blush and a resounding, “I-It’s not like that! Humph, idiot…” and yet another punch in the arm. If she’s going to be open about her feels and not hide behind the “Humph! Idiot!” barrier, you better bet she swears you to secrecy over it.

A primary mode of frustration with Estelle and many of her friends is that they go off and do things without thinking. And though she’d likely act the same way if a blastia were on the line, she’s still going to accost you for being an idiot and endangering yourself. Again, logic rules over emotion, and emotion isn’t worth a stupid, pointless death.

Rita always saw herself as a bit of an outlier. Whenever she would discover something, she would find the mages in Aspio discussing the same thing two months later. Rita figured that talking to them was just a waste because she’d never get anything stimulating out of them. She was the smartest one of them all, and because she was so smart, she had nobody to relate to her. Rita really was too smart for her own good. It was just one of many things that deprived her of a normal social life.

At the end of the day though, if you’ve earned Rita’s loyalty and her friendship, you better believe she’ll be fighting by your side until the bitter end. As logical as she can get, and as hypocritical as it might make her sometimes, she just couldn’t abandon a friend. The closeness she gained with Estelle and the rest of her group had an extremely profound effect on the young mage, and because of it, she found something worth preserving, regardless of what she had to do to do it.

“I don’t have any family, so I don’t….but…I kinda like, you know, how we are.”

Rita Mordio|Tales of Vesperia|Reserved|Part 3

Abilities: Rita’s most valuable skill and asset is undoubtedly her unmatched brilliance and intelligence. Essentially the smartest human being in her entire world of Terca Lumireis, Rita has nigh-limitless knowledge of the maths and sciences of her home world. There’s few problems, equations, or formulas that she’s incapable of breaking down and figuring out. She was even able to crack the rizomata formula, which up to that point had been considered an impossible feat by every other mage and scholar in the world. Add in her comprehensive knowledge of blastia formula, a razor sharp wit and competent survival instinct and you have yourself one dangerous genius mage.

The bohdi blastia around her neck is something that assists her in manipulating the aer (A component of Terca Lumireis that can be used as a sort of energy.) and later, mana, in order to cast magic artes as well as strike artes. Her strike artes consist of the utilization of the sash she has attached to the best around her waist to amplify it’s offensive capabilities and more martial forms of magic. Magic artes are like any other spell you’ve heard of. They work by manipulating a specific element with the aer or mana in a formula that employs it in a offensive manner or otherwise. When casting a specific arte, a crest forms underneath her as she channels the aer, mana, or elements through her body and prepares to unleash the devastating effect. Along with an incantation, she draws the rest of the formula crest around her 360 degrees in a sphere with her belt sash and then finally unleashes the spell. This process is shorter for more novice spells, and especially longer when employing a higher level spell.

In a pinch, Rita can enter overlimit for a short period of time. During this period the creation of formula crests and the casting of her magic is streamlined which allows for not only nearly instantaneous cast-times (She replaces the long incantations with “Blah blah blah!”), but also gives her amplified power with which to cast more powerful spells known as “burst” and “mystic” artes. Through formulas, there are various ways to alter artes and create new, powerful spells and combinations of them.

Rita’s magical arsenal primarily includes spells such as. . .

Novice:
Fireball: Shoots several small orbs of flame into the enemy
“O flickering blaze, burn! Fireball!”

Stone Blast: Causes several large rocks to burst forth form the earth underneath the opponent.
“O din of this modest land…Stone blast!

Champagne: Creates a small spring of stinging waters underneath the opponent.
“O caprice of innocent water…Champagne!”

Spread Zero: Creates a small vortex of darkness in the air the erupts over the opponent.
“Smile of waver darkness…Spread Zero!”
Intermediate:

Splash: Pulls a large bubble up from underneath the opponent that then explodes above them, causing a heavy gush of water the storm down upon them.
“Grant them thy undefiled purity. Splash!”

Stalagmite: Rises a large stalagmite out of the ground under the opponent.
“O sharpened rage, run through that which blocks our future. Stalagmite!”

Tractor Beam: A circle forms around the opponent and activates a moment later, immobilizing the opponent and lifting them up into the air for a short time while inflicting painful pressure on them.
“Spread thy alluring snare and deliver my enemies unto me. Tractor Beam!”

Spiral Flare: Creates a large, fiery crest in mid-air that then shoot out a long, horizontal projective of flame.
“O incandescent locus, annihilate the vulgar before me. Spiral Flare!”

Negative Gate: A large version of Spread Zero with a more intense sphere of darkness slowly erupting.
“Come forth, O avaricious netherworld and crush the evil before me! Negative Gate!

Advanced:
Blade Roll: Swings a large purple transparent blade around her waist in a circular motion, cutting all around her.
“O blade of noble light, overpower even indestructible evil. Blade Roll!”

Violent Pain. Creates a puddle of darkness underneath the opponent, trapping them. Then several spears of darkness rocket up into the air and slam down onto the opponent.
“O disturbing power now unleashed, mete thy judgment upon the evil before me. Violent Pain!”

Ground Dasher: Creates a fissure under the opponent and rockets upward large portions of hard rock repeatedly into the opponent.
“O beating of the earth, sacrifice thy body to crush my enemies. Ground Dasher!”

Tidal Wave: Creates a swirling tidal wave around all opponents.
“O mad and greedy waters, rise up and storm the very heavens. Tidal Wave!”

Crimson Flare: Creates an enormous sphere of fire that hangs over the opponent. The sphere then shoots down a sustain ray of flames onto everything below it.
“O merciless conflagration, burn the very souls of my enemies. Crimson Flare!”

Meteor Storm: Causes many chunks of meteorite to rocket down from the heavens into the opponents.
“O countless particles that wander the heavens, rain own and glorify the land. Meteor Storm!”

Eruption: Causes a controlled eruption of lava underneath the opponent.
“O infernal emperor, rise form the depths of the earth. Eruption!”

Ivy Rush: Poisonous vines emerge from underneath the opponent.
“Awake, O unmerciful and unnamed queen of thorns. Ivy Rush!”

Demon’s Lance: Raises up a lance of darkness that projects forward to impale the opponent.
“O obsidian flash, be as a raging spear to run my enemies through! Demon’s Lance!”

Aqua Laser: Creates a long line of water that erupts from the under the opponent and stretches behind and in front of them.
“I mother praised for her indigo laugh, break part and raise thy clear new voice. Aqua Laser!”

Freeze Lancer: Fires ten icy projectiles forward into the opponent.
“O frozen blade, fly sharply across the heavens. Freeze Lancer!”

Riot Horn: Causes a range of miniature mountains to rise from the earth and snake under the opponents.
O demon who crawls the depths of the earth, gore my enemies and crush them to dust! Riot Horn!

Gold Cat: Creates a large golden cat figurine over the head of the opponent that subsequently is hammered down onto them.
“O golden rain who bringeth good fortune, thy name is…Gold Cat!”

Flame Dragon: Causes flames to shoot forward in the shape and pattern of a dragon in flight.
“O seething fire, be as a holy beast to devour the wicked. Flame Dragon!”

Bloody Howling: Creates a runic pattern around the enemy that exudes seething hot rays of darkness to obliterate the opponent.
“O gathering flames of darkness, treat our dear guest to the strains of your terrible song. Bloody Howling!”

Thunder Blade: Swings down thin, sharp individual sticks of lightning into the body of the opponent. Once it runs the opponent through the lightning rod explodes into an electric fireball.
“O righteous will, let fall thy sword of lightning upon those who bear fault. Thunder blade!”

Burst Artes – Mystic/Raging/Fleeting/Ruinous/Diffusional Drive: Creates a rune formation on the ground that emanates and pulses with incredible, searing light. This can be altered into a flame, wind, earth, or water attribute for the blast.
“O resplendent mystery!”
“O apoplectic blast!”
“O blades flying past!”
“O destructive pressure!”
“O dancing waters!”

Mystic Arte – Ancient Catastrophe: Four large masses of pure elemental energy form around Rita. Rita then creates a shield around herself while the four balls of energy each directly charge their energy against Rita’s shield that then reflects the energy to decimate the enemies around her.
“O power that lies at the root of all creation, O memory inscribed in ages past, hear my call and arise before me! Ancient Catastrophe!”

Sample Entry: Thread from another roleplay! (Ignore the terrible subject lines) (NOTE: I hope this is okay, my journal name on LJ is a different one from this journal which I use on DW. I hope this isn't a problem or causes confusion! If so I'll gladly prepare an alternative sample!)
