Applications
• Please read over all the rules and information before applying in order to minimize any confusion before joining.
• If applying for a character that has already been dropped, it would be a good idea, though not required, to know something of their previous interactions. You are also free to pick up a dropped character with no memories of their previous time in Mayfield.
• All content for the personality and sample entry in your app must be written or roleplayed by you; for the personality section in particular, we do not accept copied text from wikis or other sources. Obviously, you may not copy your app from other players, whether in Mayfield or other games. Application plagiarism will result in a ban from the game.
• If you wish for your character to be placed in a specific house, please mention this in the relevant section of the application and specify that permission was obtained by the PCs already residing in that house. We will be operating by the Honor System for this, and there is no need for others to comment their permission in this post!
• Other special requests would also best go in the beginning of the application. Remember, grammar and spelling are important -- if your app contains errors, you will be asked to revise.
• Please post all applications or canon updates in this post; posting them elsewhere and linking to them from here may cause them to get changed later. Posting them here keeps us from having to save them.

When Applying for an Original Character, Fill Out the Following
• Before applying, please look over any applications that were recently accepted to get an idea of what we're looking for.
• If you apply for a character that has already been reserved, we will inform you and ignore the application until the reserve runs out. You may not apply for more than two characters from the same canon. For the sample entry, you may write your own entry, or use a post from a musebox, dressing room, or other game. We recommend
• After you're accepted, please follow all of the instructions given. You will need to reply to the acceptance, post your journal to the friend add page and your canon post, join the communities, and use the friend add page to update your journal. Once you're accepted, please introduce yourself on the community when you're ready to play.
• If your app is "Pending", do not freak out! This means that we need you to make some revisions, and does not mean you're rejected. We generally give players a chance to revise before rejecting them, but we will reject apps that do not address the concerns stated when we asked for a revision. If you have been rejected, our reply will clearly state this to be the case. If we have not gotten back to you yet, under no circumstance does this mean you are rejected. If it has been over a week since our last reply, it would be a good idea to contact us with a reminder, otherwise, please be patient!
• If you have received a "Pending" notice, you will have one week to supply us with your revisions, or your reserve will be considered expired and that someone else is free to apply for the character.
• The typical wait for a reply on apps may be anywhere from a day to a little over a week. If any part of your application requires a pending, it may be another week after your reply to that before we can get to you. We process a high volume of apps every round, so please be patient.

After the defeat of Hungary in 955, a Marche called marchia Orientalis was created and became the foothold of Austria's existence. By 976 she came into her own as a personification going by the name of Ostarrichi . Slowly she began to acquire a population and in 996 her people bestowed upon her the name of Österreich, or Austria, which is the name she is known by today.
Austria's growth and personality developed over the next few centuries as her people settled her lands and elevated her to that of a duchy ruled by a family known as the Babenberg Dukes. They were an influential and powerful family in the region and she benefited greatly from their rule until death of their last remaining heir causing their line to go extinct in 1246. They were instrumental in Austria gaining Vienna as her capital city in 1156, capturing England's king Richard the I in exchange for a ransom in 1192, and using the ransom money in 1194 to fund a fortress to defend herself against Hungary and his advances.
After the Babenbergs died out, Austria went through a period of several decades known as her 'interregnum,' during which her legitimacy as a country was disputed. Then in 1278, the Habsburg Monarchy took control over her and proceeded to rule her for the next 640 years of her existence.
Austria became quite friendly with Switzerland at this time, interacting with her as an ally now that they shared the same Hapsburg ruler. While Switzerland found Austria's shortcomings and naivete annoying and hated having to continually bail her out of confrontations with the surrounding nations, the two shared a certain camaraderie between them and grew to be very close. Austria considered Switzerland to be her best friend, and strived to be as strong and useful as she was.
As time went on however, Switzerland became frustrated with the Hapsburgs and their favoritism of Austria over herself. The Hapsburgs considered Austria the heart of their realm, even though Switzerland had been their home and the original land of their affection. Switzerland grew more and more disillusioned with her second class status and in 1291 the Hapsburgs finally offended her so much that she formed her own league in opposition to them. As a result she ended her friendship with Austria.
The eventual and complete loss of Switzerland hurt Austria deeply, propelling her and the Hapsburgs into a spiral of disarray. By 1485 Austria's capital was taken from her by Hungary, he and his king moved their court into her capital and tried to absorb Austria into Hungarian rule. Austria refused despite her weaken state. Merely fifteen years later, after the death of Hungary's king, she managed to take back Vienna from Hungary through a strategic marriage with Spain.
The Habsburg's increased Austria's influence and power through strategic alliances ratified by marriages. This move gained Austria the Hereditary Lands along with the Franche-Comte and the Netherlands along with Spain and her empire in the Americas. Austria was so notorious for her strategic marriages that it gave rise to the poetic line, "Bella gerant alii, tu felix Austria nub." Translated it meant, "Let others make war; you, fortunate Austria, marry."
Austria and Spain's union by marriage was not unpleasant for Austria, although she would never say that she considered it a union of hearts. Just merely a union of necessity. Austria was still slightly jaded after Switzerland's betrayal, but understood that the union with Spain was of great importance to her survival as a nation. The two were separated often due to how far away their homes were from one another and Spain's future exploits to colonize the Americas. However, when they were together they got along well enough despite their differences and considered each other friends.

Regardless, she does not consider herself a composer. She is much more comfortable simply playing the works of the geniuses her country is responsible for turning into renowned composers. That being said, she vehemently denies any other Nation's claim to any foreign born composers who found musical haven within her borders. She considers them hers by association and views her ties to them as being more binding than something as silly as birthright.
She is a modest and simple cook, but excels at baking and has a fervor for elaborately crafted rich desserts. She enjoys spending her free time time baking and meticulously decorating her baked goods and takes great pride in them. She has a bit of an exaggerated sweet tooth so the quality of something she eats often needs to meet her high standards.
Austria can sew and occasionally mends and modifies her own clothes to her tastes. She considers the skill useful and necessary for a lady, but prefers to let her servants to do the brunt of it for her.
She's also a polylingual. Her role as a personified nation makes this ability indispensable as well as her role as the head of her vast empire which controls countless other nations of all different dialects and languages.
As a nation, Austria has a different life expectancy from that of a human being. She can only cease to exist if her country, culture and people do as well. That being said, she is able to withstand serious injury and pain without death and recover more quickly than a human being. However her health is susceptible to her national climate, her national economy, and general mood of her people. Her age also does not correlate with her physical appearance and changes based on her national growth and deficiencies.
Not particularly skilled in war or warfare despite her efforts, she is a rather talented orator and negotiator. She has manipulated many Nations into becoming her allies and serving her own self interests. Her method of choice to avoid war yet still retain power is arranging various marriage alliances between her and other Nation's royalty and nobility. However, it is important to note that she is not afraid of battle even if she doesn't always prosper from the endeavor.
That being said she is trained in combat, weaponry, and displays some aptitude for fencing. However, she finds both to be rather unbecoming of a lady of her stature and participates purely out of necessity. Because of this she frequently lapses in her training, causing inconsistencies in her ability to fight over the centuries.
Finally, while she certainly prefers the finer things in life and lives as a powerful aristocratic lady, she does occasionally yearn for some of the simplicity of her youth. To curb her desire she maintains a small personal garden with a modest green thumb.

That being said she is rather reluctant to form deep emotional bonds with others as she ages, and tends to keep her deepest innermost feelings to herself. Even despite her marriage to Spain, Austria is hesitant to share her feelings with her and insists that her marriage was made purely for political reasons and her own preservation. She utilizes music and art as her emotional outlet for her feelings instead. She adores music and art as they satisfy her need for visually pleasing things. Her eye for aesthetic beauty and style is unparalleled in Europe and she has a strong sense of personal style and taste putting great effort into maintaining her personal presentation. Her other form of expression is baking. She has a rather exaggerated penchant for sweets and enjoys creating cakes, tortes, strudels and other confections in her kitchen. She is also talented at sewing.
That being said, she prefers having others do things for her and despite knowing how to bake, sew she chooses to delegate these chores to her subordinates. Partially it's because being a lead figurehead of the Hapsburg Empire requires hours of work to maintain power, but also she does derive some joy from telling those beneath her what to do. Coming from an unstable upbringing and rising to be one of the most powerful Nations in Europe, she understands the importance of having and maintaining her power and when she has it she makes sure she wields it. She also tends to spend money lavishly for show, even if it is not technically hers.
She aims for perfection in all her endeavors she cares deeply about and always makes sure to accomplish things to the best of her ability. She would much rather take her time and spend hours completing one task out of ten well, as opposed to completing ten tasks out of ten having done a poor job.
She has never been good at warfare and grew up getting beat up by the surrounding nations continually. She's not all that combative, even in her youth, which caused her to be over powered often. She would much rather avoid conflict at all costs and relies heavily on her politeness, conversational skills, treaties and alliances. She is trained in combat but she doesn't excel in it and prefers to spend her time on things she is interested in and good at. However, if it can not be avoided and she has no other outlets she is not afraid to fight even despite the fact that the end result may not benefit her in the slightest.

Hello, Mayfield.
If any of those with some influence in this town happen to be listening and would be willing give me a moment of their time it would be entirely appreciated.
I don't know if you were aware when you arranged for me to be brought to your town, but back home I happen to have a multitude of responsibilities that need to be completed by only myself. I have an entire Empire to manage back in Europe you see and it's utterly imperative that I be able to return. My absence can result in nothing positive and I only recently just managed to regain my capital and power from... a rather undesirable individual. As you can plainly see this is a very inconvenient time for me to visit your town.
Besides that, being in Mayfield was not exactly how I anticipated spending the first day of my married life.
