It's a pleasure to meet you all
I'm really not sure where to start with this. I'm very excited to be here but at the same time I'm a little nervous since I've never participated in a journal based roleplay like this before so I hope I do well.
It's very nice to meet you all. I'm Muri and I'll be playing Latvia from Axis Powers Hetalia who'll be residing at 7133 Brooks Lane. I hope that's okay! Even though he's the only character I'm used to playing I still worry I don't get the portrayal quite right. I'll to my best to make him interesting to interact with. As shameful as it is to admit it, I really don't know much about history so if I make any obvious mistakes please alert me so I can better educate myself.
I'm a little shy around such large communities, although I have been told it's pretty laid back. Does anyone have any general tips for playing large games like this? I always worry that I'll lose track and miss something important.
If you need to contact me you can either E-mail me or message me on AIM via Mierigi.
I hope we can get along well.

Admittedly the thing I'm most worried about is the posting format, how the actions are split up and which one to use when. I suppose it's something you pick up from experience though.

And I am super happy to see a Latvia in the game ahhhhhhhh we have a Latvia **
I'm Narva/Kira (whichever you prefer) and play Russia, Nezumi (from No.6) and NZ. I'm in CET so my schedule can be troublesome, but I hope we can play together a lot ahhhh Latviaaaa

I'll admit part of what convinced me to join besides the game themes was the fact there was so much of the Eastern European Hetalia cast.
You know, I think we may have played just a tiny bit before. I had an account for Latvia on Livejournal as well and I may be wrong but I think you commented on something I posted at Dear Mun.
Although I may be wrong. My memory isn't great. And I'm GMT so I'm not that far behind.

It's possible, I sometimes tag around there, and if you posted with Latvia...
What point of time is he from?
no subject
Hmm, actually it was this thread I'm thinking of. It said he was in Mayfield from his profile.
no subject
Russia's from 1812, and and and ahhhhhhhhhhh 19th century if you want to discuss any kind of headcanon I'm always up for that!
/sorry for spazzing I like pre-1917 points of time |D And also I should have been in bed an hour ago due to having to get up early tomorrow. I will answer again in the morning!

I'm really really sorry! My knowledge of history is pretty limited and I really don't know much about that time period. I don't mind you telling me, I just don't know how much I can offer in response.
no subject
Fffffffffff please don't be sorry! We learn about the countries as we play them, in my experience, so as long as you know enough to play him I don't see what's bad about it.
Hm, idk but my main thing for 19th century Russia-Latvia would be that they got along relatively well - Latvia didn't partake in revolts like Lithuania did and generally they were a "well behaved" territory with the ruling German-speaking class getting along well with the Russian government. So... I think Russia wouldn't be perceived as a better or worse lord than Sweden or Lithuania yet by Latvia. And Russia in turn would trust Latvia to behave and be a lot less... dangerous than later on for him.
Ah, though for Mayfield, Russia has been trying to "fix" the drone that looked like Latvia for a while now, which mainly means regular kidnapping and locking into the basement. Just so you are warned and know what Russia's talking about should he bring it up.
no subject
Heh, I don't know. Maybe it's just my perception of there are those in the fandom that know history and those that don't, with those that don't being looked down upon but maybe I'm just being too paranoid about being accepted.
I see, I always thought Latvia to be fairly distrustful and not very friendly towards Russia, however I'm assuming that's due to events during the 20th century. Since it's a modern day interpretation I'm sure they won't see eye to eye on a lot of things.
There's a drone that looked like Latvia? Okay, I'll keep that in mind. Although I'm guessing Latvia actually having that knowledge would be meta-gaming, wouldn't it?
no subject
Yeah, idk I mean everyone interprets those things differently and you could also claim that the upper class, due to not being ethnically Latvian, wasn't really Latvia which leaves the lower classes for his personality and that in turn would mean that, just like the Russian peasantry, he wouldn't have been off exceptionally well. But then there were also the whole matter of Russia trying to restructure the Baltic area politically after he got it from Sweden, which generally didn't bring much good to the people and thus nations involved...
And then there is Latvia's own personality... Like, yes, Russia wasn't nearly as unhinged yet as he would be in the 20th century, but he was also Russia |D So what I'm trying to say is you pretty much have free reign in your interpretation and I will shut up.
Oh and on...
From what I remember you left a good impression. I have to admit that I don't remember much...
I guess so, but it might be useful to know, I guess. And yep! When people get droned, their bodies stay around, so it was basically the body of the Latvia that Mayfield had ages ago. Russia never met that dropped Latvia, he only knows the drone (Russia's the janitor of the elementary school, so he sees all the students each day~)
I'm sorry if I rable too much or something.

I guess general opinions between characters can be hard to pin because not only can the opinions of the general population differ but they can change over time. I just recently read a letter from a Latvian student trying to figure out why there was a general dislike of Russians from most people she met and everyone cited different reasons, from the deportations to lack of communications, but some said that they got along really well and most Russians they'd met had been incredibly kind. I guess you're right, in the end it's up to interpretation and you kind of have to rely on the human characteristics of the character as well. I guess I just always interpreted Latvia as being rather anxious and untrustworthy with people he doesn't feel safe around anyway. Not that they can't make amends, it'll just take some time.
I see, I knew they got droned I just didn't know there used to be a Latvia in the system. The only evidence of characters I have is from the canon list and I guess that must only be active players. It'll be fun to see how they interact with each other, and if Russia's the janitor at the school I'm sure they'll meet sooner or later.
And don't be sorry, it's fine. I'm always interested in what other people have to say about this kind of thing.

Also since this place has switched over to being a community based game, it should be much easier to keep up with now. So you shouldn't worry too much about missing things. Just keep track of the tags for your CR and you should be fine.
no subject
Ah, that's right they made a switch didn't they? How was it played before, just out of curiosity?

but anyway hi I'm Des and I play this singing robot and also

It's nice to meet you too. Thank-you, I'm sure I'll enjoy it very much here. Especially since everyone seems so nice.

Ah, also sorry if this sounds a little silly but what does CR stand for? There are still a few journal roleplay terms I don't understand. I only recently got the concept of tagging from a friend of mine, before I'd always used the term reply.
no subject
CR stands for Character Relations or... something like that. It basically means the people your character knows. For example a "CR chart" is where muns write little blurbs about their character's relationships in game.
no subject
Heh, sorry this just feels a little strange. I feel like I know most of this stuff already, it's just under different names. I feel so out of the loop all of a sudden.

At any rate, I look forward to having a Latvia in the game, especially since so few people play him c:

Okay, now that that's out of my system (at least OOCly, no promises for ICly) hello! It's so wonderful to see you here, Muri, I'm Dakotah and I'll be playing (along with a derpy cop and Nyotalia!Canada), everyone's favourite sparkling
nordicbaltic, Estonia! Big games can be a little bit intimidating, but I think where Mayfield's just moving to a neat and organized community format, you'll find it pretty easy to follow along. OOC communication (of which the Eastern Europe cast here does a lot, I should tell you) is the best way to make things easy on yourself, as is making sure to check in with new posts every once in a while.Oh! And as for the history, I'm a bit of a buff myself, so if you ever want a rundown of some Baltic history stuff, or at least overlap between Estonia and the others, I'd be happy to talk about it (or general Mayfield stuff, too!) with you. I can be found on plurk, via PM, or on AIM at callieach007, usually. I really look forward to playing with you, which is probably apparent by how long this comment is, so I hope you enjoy it here!
no subject
Thank-you, I'm glad to know that I can talk to people OOC about these kinds of things. I have a contact post in my journal, although I don't use AIM much. I'm sure I'll start using it more while playing. I look forward to playing with you too!
no subject
And like the rest of the EE players have told you, not to worry, we're a friendly bunch!
no subject
Haha, I'm Mel! Hello! I play Lithuania, obviously, but I also play Sealand, Bernkastel from Umineko, and Hilda from the Pokemon games.
The best way in Mayfield to stay in touch with everyone is to get a Plurk if you don't already have one. It's kind of weird getting used to it (it's sort of like if you combine twitter and aim) but a lot of people use it for plotting and stuff. It's not necessary, of course, but it is helpful!
History-wise, I see you've got offers to help, but I'm up for helping, too! I'm sure between everyone in Eastern Europe we will be able to paint some sort of general picture of things for you. c:
I AM SUPER EXCITED TO HAVE A LATVIA BTW YAY
no subject
I have a Plurk already actually, I like the way it's organized but because I don't know anyone else that uses it I've just been talking to myself a lot, haha! I think I put my username in my contact post, but maybe not. I tend to be a bit absent minded with that kind of thing.
I'm so pleased everyone's so willing to help, I feel a lot less shy about it now.

And yay, you have a plurk! I'll be adding you--I'm

Hello! I'm Katie and I play Ukraine here along with Cuba and large amount of other characters. We have Eastern Europe history rants on plurk sometimes because we are the nerdiest. But we'll be glad to help with anything.
I've been here for over two years now, so if you have any questions. Feel free to ask. :D
no subject
Wow, two years seems like a really long time to me. Then again, the roleplays I'd been involved in before are just forum roleplays that seemed to die out after a few weeks. I'm really excited to try something longer lasting.
no subject
I don't play EE but Koharu is sort of...adopted by some of them so she'll probably meet Latvia! 8D
It's nice to meet you! I'm Terra by the way!
no subject
Heh, as excited as I am to have a large Eastern European cast to play with I'm also very excited about interacting with characters from other series too since I've never been in a pan-fandom roleplay before.
It seems like a lot of fun since there are so many possibilities.

Hi! I'm k3llyb3an, but you can just call me Kelly like most people. Or Bean like some people. Or even "hey you" will do it.
I play the always fabulous, Poland!
Please, I know it will be difficult now that I've told you I play the greatest nation to ever grace a world map, but hold your applause and shrieks of adoration till the end of the comment. Thank you. It's very nice to meet you! I'm totally confident that you'll be awesome, but I'll help you out as best I can, if you need it. I'm sure you'll fit into the game, when I joined three months ago the Eastern Europe cast in particular was very friendly and helped show me the ropes. You can't ask for a better group than Mayfield's Eastern Europe cast. They are just wonderful people. c':
As for your lament about history, I'd love to talk Polish-Lativian history and relations with you if you so desire. I don't consider myself the ultimate master of Polish history myself, but we can muddle through it!
Besides there's always Wikipedia if we get stuck.I think my only advice for you to help you ease into the game, has already been stated. I'd recommend getting a plurk account and communicating with players on there. I find it much easier to utilize for CR and thread plotting and just general shenanigans than AIM.
Then again I despise AIM with the passion of a thousand burning suns, so I'm utterly and unapologetically biased. Seriously that thing is the instant messaging service of the devil.Anyways, WELCOME TO MAYFIELD!
You may commence with your applause.no subject
It's very nice to meet you too. So many people have offered help and been so kind it's rather humbling in a way, especially since I was so nervous before but now I'm very eager to play with everyone.
Plurk's been mentioned before and I'm glad I can finally connect with other peoples accounts since I've just been talking to myself up until now. I feel a lot less bad about not using AIM now actually. It's not that I don't like it, I just keep forgetting I have it so it seldom gets used.
Thank-you for the warm welcome!
