mayfield_ooc | event: memory corrupt

On the morning of Friday, June 1st, characters who are participating in this event will wake up with their memories of their entire life history altered. While they will still remember their time in Mayfield, they will believe themselves to be from an alternate universe than the canon they're from. Examples of AUs we will allow include but are not limited to:

alternate timeline; the overall world remains the same, but someone makes a different decision than the one in canon that sends the universe traveling down the other leg of the Trousers of Time. (For example, what if Harry Potter chose to be in Slytherin rather than Gryffindor?)

alternate setting; the fundamental rules of how the canon world works have changed. (Example: If Pokemon often killed humans or died instead of fainting.)

alternate history; your character is now from a different era in their world than the one in canon.

alternate future; essentially a fake/alternate canon-update. Please note that while your character may now have memories of being older than their current age, they will not physically age up as well.

Feel free to come up with AUs outside of the above as well. That said, we will not allow the following types of AUs:

non-canon crossovers; if the crossover doesn't exist in canon, it won't be allowed. (A Kingdom Hearts character believing themselves to be from the world of Aladdin is fine; a Kingdom Hearts character believing themselves to be from the world of Harry Potter is not.)

alternate species; your character must remain the same species as they are in canon.

We will also not allow the following:

alternate regains; all current regains your character may have in Mayfield will remain the same. A non magic-user in canon who is being taken from a universe where they're a sorcerer will still be unable to use magic in Mayfield. Characters will also not be able to use the Post Office to trade for regains from their alternate universe, unless it's a regain they would be able to normally acquire.

physical changes; no matter what AU your character is from, they will remain physically identical to their canon counterpart.

This is PRETTY CRAY-CRAY AND RIDIC but what can you do?

Rapunzel was canon updated and went through most of her story as the film happened, until Rapunzel is approached by the Stabbington Brothers. They inform the girl of what Flynn did, and she is initially heart-broken, as per canon. However, in this version of our story, the deal the brothers had with Gothel involved accompanying Gothel and Rapunzel back to the tower as bodyguards; there they would allegedly be given Rapunzel. In reality, Gothel had plans to kill them.

Anyway...

When the Stabbington Brothers went to bring Rapunzel back to Gothel, they didn't explain themselves before trying to take her with them. Rapunzel fled and, though it wasn't part of the plan, one of the brothers knocked her unconcious... Or seemingly so. In truth, Rapunzel had the air knockd out of her for a moment, and when she was starting to feel capable of getting up and fighting again, she heard her mother screaming that this was part of the deal. The following argument between the brothers and Gothel made everything clear to Rapunzel as she lay there, "playing dead".

Rapunzel leapt up and went to confront her mother, but the Stabbington Brothers tried to attack her, first, acting on impulse and fear of losing their prize. When they did, Rapunzel attacked with her hair, looping a thick section of it around each of their necks with the intention to knock their heads together, purely trying to recreate something like what she'd done in the Snuggly Duckling. However, in her haste and high emotional state, she strangled them. Rapunzel was horrified of what she'd done, and couldn't resist going to her mother for comfort, as Gothel put on an understand maternal facade, stroking Rapunzel's hair and urging her to sing to help them both feel refreshed.

Rapunzel began to do so, when she remembered her mother had a part in all of this, as well. Suddenly, the darkness growing in her heart changed things; her hair sucked the life from Gothel, bringing her to dust. Rapunzel was exhausted by this and the general emotional turmoil, and collapsed. When she came to the next morning, she hated herself for having fainted. She had to go save Flynn. She found Gothel's knife in the dead woman's bag and went into the kingdom, attacking - but never killing - anyone who tried to stop her from getting to Flynn.

However, she found it was too late. Flynn had already been hanged. She was overwhelm with emotion and ran far away from the kingdom.

She spent a year trying to come to terms with what happened, but rather than feel any closure, all that happened was the strengthening of her hatred; a need for revenge developed. Rapunzel began plotting to kill the King and Queen of Corona, seeing them as the only living ones remaining who were reponsible for Flynn's death.

She was preparing to head back to the kingdom when she returned to Mayfield.
