Applications

• Please read over all the rules and information before applying in order to minimize any confusion before joining.

• If applying for a character that has already been dropped, it would be a good idea, though not required, to know something of their previous interactions. You are also free to pick up a dropped character with no memories of their previous time in Mayfield.

• All content for the personality and sample entry in your app must be written or roleplayed by you; for the personality section in particular, we do not accept copied text from wikis or other sources. Obviously, you may not copy your app from other players, whether in Mayfield or other games. Application plagiarism will result in a ban from the game.

• If you wish for your character to be placed in a specific house, please mention this in the relevant section of the application and specify that permission was obtained by the PCs already residing in that house. We will be operating by the Honor System for this, and there is no need for others to comment their permission in this post!

• Other special requests would also best go in the beginning of the application. Remember, grammar and spelling are important -- if your app contains errors, you will be asked to revise.

• Please post all applications or canon updates in this post; posting them elsewhere and linking to them from here may cause them to get changed later. Posting them here keeps us from having to save them.

When Applying, Fill Out the Following:

When Applying for an Original Character, Fill Out the Following

• Before applying, please look over any applications that were recently accepted to get an idea of what we're looking for.

• If you apply for a character that has already been reserved, we will inform you and ignore the application until the reserve runs out. You may not apply for more than two characters from the same canon. For the sample entry, you may write your own entry, or use a post from a musebox, dressing room, or other game. We recommend [community profile] testrun_box if you prefer the latter!

• After you're accepted, please follow all of the instructions given. You will need to reply to the acceptance, post your journal to the friend add page and your canon post, join the communities, and use the friend add page to update your journal. Once you're accepted, please introduce yourself on the community when you're ready to play.

• If your app is "Pending", do not freak out! This means that we need you to make some revisions, and does not mean you're rejected. We generally give players a chance to revise before rejecting them, but we will reject apps that do not address the concerns stated when we asked for a revision. If you have been rejected, our reply will clearly state this to be the case. If we have not gotten back to you yet, under no circumstance does this mean you are rejected. If it has been over a week since our last reply, it would be a good idea to contact us with a reminder, otherwise, please be patient!

• If you have received a "Pending" notice, you will have one week to supply us with your revisions, or your reserve will be considered expired and that someone else is free to apply for the character.

• The typical wait for a reply on apps may be anywhere from a day to a little over a week. If any part of your application requires a pending, it may be another week after your reply to that before we can get to you. We process a high volume of apps every round, so please be patient.

If you have not heard back on a pending for over a week after apps close, please send a PM directly to the mod account.

Background: http://www.gundemonium.com/hitogata-happa/characters.php
Unfortunately, the only real source of data on the game’s story is the official website and even that doesn’t explain as much as I want it to. The game itself doesn’t reveal much more of the story, so almost everything I say about Kreutzer is head canon. However, I’ll still point out the parts of Kreutzer that are definitely stated in the game:

In 1757, The Genoremasody Reich continued to be an unstoppable force in East Prussia; its continued expansion and domination was thanks to its current Empress, Kreutzer Wilhelm XIII. Because of her incredible knowledge in Universal Science and Alchemy, she was able to lead her empire to unrivalled dominance. Before she even took up the throne, Kreutzer dedicated herself to mastering those arts for the sake of her empire; she was a born patriot and wanted only the best for her country of Wilhelmgrob. The destruction and chaos it spread made people fear the great super power and surrender to it, lest they wish to provoke more harm upon themselves. But as she watched exactly what her genius led to, Kreutzer realized that the Genoremasody Reich may have become too powerful for anyone to stop and could soon destroy everything on the planet. With the guilt only rising, Kreutzer came to the decision that she would have to stop it; however, she could not do so by herself.

Not exactly, at least. She herself had to continue running the empire because as powerful as Kreutzer was, her empire was strong enough to continue on its own and could easily get rid of their empress if she didn’t continue doing her job. But Kreutzer had a backup plan: because of her genius, she was able to create an exact replica of herself who would be able to easily search the land for someone who possessed the courage and talent to fight back. Enter Rosa Christopher, the game’s protagonist and one of the empire’s many victims who struggled to survive after the mechanized onslaught. Unlike the other victims, Rosa possessed the powerful ability to control and synchronize with any artificial humanoid she encountered; she was exactly who Kreutzer was looking for.

Other Characters Played: Gakupo Kamui and Grell Sutcliff
Preferred Housing: N/A

Character Name: Ran 'Aya' Fujimiya. He only goes by Aya, however.
Character Series: Weiss Kreuz (anime, OVA, drama CDs, and the Weiss Side B manga)
Character Age: 24

Background:

Ran is the eldest of two children and lived a normal, happy childhood with his sister, Aya, and their parents. Upon returning from a festival one night, which was Aya's 16h birthday, he and his sister found their parents murdered in an act to cover up a banking scandal. In escaping their home moments after a bomb goes off, Aya stumbled from being knocked down from the blast only to be hit by a car driven by the chauffeur of Reiji Takatori, the person responsible for placing the embezzlement scandal on his father. Aya was left in a coma for at least two years, and Ran took on her name to remember his vengeance.

With the help of his uncle, Ran then found his way to Kritiker, an underground organization that fights crime. The Sendai Branch of Kritiker ran as a flower arrangement school as its cover, while secretly housing and training assassins. Ran became insistent that Shion, another agent for Kritiker whom Ran saw as a sort of mentor, train him in the art of sword fighting.

During a mission to break up an S&M ring, things went awry and Ran barely managed to escape with his life. His other teammates were not so lucky, or so he was lead to believe. With the Kritiker branch in Sendai wiped out, Ran is sent to their Tsushima Branch to continue training after he recovered enough. Under the guise of a gardener, Ran's newest mission was to stop the yakuza from putting pressure upon a director of a clinic so they could use the land for their own agenda. He met a rogue assassin for hire named Saitou, who ended up helping him out and completing his mission.

Ran then found himself with Crashers, a group of assassins working for Kritiker. Ran was simply filling in for an injured member, and eventually joined the group on a regular basis. He does learn that one member of Crashers has a sister named Taiyou, whom he met during his stunt as a gardener not too long ago. She was in the clinic because of her lack of eyesight. Aya eventually joined Weiss under the code name Abyssinian. Weiss consisted of three other males who had tragic pasts, and their own reasons for becoming assassins. They never asked what his motives were, and neither did he ask them. All was eventually revealed throughout their missions.

Their main enemies were Schwartz, four male assassins hired by Reiji Takatori to do his bidding, and Schreient, four female assassins hired by Masafumi Takatori, Reiji's brother. The members of Schwartz each possessed a type of supernatural ability that often threw a wrench into Weiss' path, making them the more notable enemies to Weiss. They were an obstacle when it came to taking down Takatori, proving just how valuable their services were. Schwartz made a deal with Schreient, despite disliking the women, and kidnapped his sister due to the face that she never aged during her coma. Masafumi was after whatever chemical in her body that kept her youthful. Little did they know that Schwartz was using them all for their own true purpose: to be their own masters.

Even after his sister awoke from her long term coma, Aya continued on with Weiss with their mission of cleaning up the streets of the 'beasts of the night'. He never went to reunite with her, always afraid that his past would only taint her. While their flower shop traveled in a mobile home, the assassin group took a mission to eliminate an American Colonel named Nichol, who was smuggling military arms out of Japan. Their mission takes a turn for the worst as their newest enemies become each other. The mission they were given was fake, which Aya picked up on, so the group fake their dangerous duel in order to rescue Manx and Kaori, the lone survivor of Nchol's scheme.

Aya's past did come back to haunt him, as an assassin group calling themselves Weiß popped up. They were imposters, killing those not even on the list to be killed. The mysterious leader of the group was none other than Shion, Aya's former mentor. Aya killed Kikyou, whom he first encountered in Sendai and was so much alike to Aya. Since then he was haunted in his dreams of Kikyou on a constant basis. Shion also appeared there, taunting him about being just a murderer like himself. Aya, who believed in all Shion had taught him, could not stop seeing him as his mentor although everything he was taught from that man was basically a lie. Aya still cannot deny how similar both he and Kikyou are in terms of vengeance for their fallen families. Kikyou joined Kritiker for the exact same reasons Aya did.

Shion, along with Azami and Ayame, who owned a restaurant in Kyoto where Youji stopped into during their mobile flower shop days, and Rindou, a flower arranger whom Aya encountered in Kyoto, continued their murders and try to take over Kritiker by kidnapping Birman and demanding that Persia hand over Kritiker to them. Manx was fatally wounded after her mission to retrieve Birman fails, and her agents were killed. She urged Weiß to kill Birman before she leaked information. Although they decide to rescue Birman, and succeeded, she used Aya's gun on herself.

In the end, Ayame and Azami, who were murdering women for fun, were killed by Ken and Youji, and Aya had a final battle with Shion one on one. They both seemed equally matched, but Shion's experience won out. However, Aya pulled a gun on him and shot him, saying that he was just a murderer, so why should he fight fair, and that Shion was so obsessed with the sword that he didn't think of other factors like guns. Shion committed harakiri, leaving the victory to Aya, or so it seemed. After a final and daunting mission at a high school where unusual suicides were taking place, Aya found himself alone in New York City, taken down by a kid with a knife on the street.

He accepted his fate. He accepted his karma.

Luckily, Aya was rescued by the friend of the boy that stabbed him. That boy's name was Yuki, who would become his newest associate later on. He ended up at a sort of makeshift orphanage, caught in the crossfire of a turf war with another rival gang called Blue Eyes. Aya voluntarily got himself involved after the owners of the orphanage, Alison and Akagawa, told him what has been happening. After discovering the truth behind the events, Aya went with Yuki to rescue Alison from the demented plan Akagawa had for them. Unfortunately neither Alison or Akagawa survived the altercation. After escaping, Aya and Yuki run into two new faces: a woman named Nana and a man who can match Aya's skills, named Chloe. They clashed for a few moments before Nana called off their duel, declaring that they were not part of their mission. This caused suspicion in Aya, believing that they were no different than he and Weiss were.

The bodies of those that have fallen were collected, even Akagawa's, despite his betrayal. Aya was asked to take Yuki with him, away from the danger. They encountered the police, who were allied with Blue Eyes, and cornered both Aya and Yuki. Although they took down two of officers, reinforcements arrived. Aya got Yuki to safety, but wasn't so lucky himself. Chloe and Nana came to their rescue, where their new path under Krypton Brand began, in the United Kingdom where they were based.

Side B opened with a girl being chased down an alley, and KB coming to her rescue. We are then introduced to other members: Michel, Free, Chloe, and Ken, the only other one from Weiss besides Aya. They eventually learn that her parents were scientists, whom she believed to be dead from a car accident. They insisted that she stay until her passport was reissued, although 'they' really meant Ken being insistent. Kurumi helped them out in their flower shop, until one day she overheard their mission meeting, in which she misinterpreted them as the killers of her parents. She ran away, only to end up being caught. Of course KB went to where Kurumi was taken, but their mission was to eliminate anyone associated with the Human Interleukin-3 virus, inhabiting Kurumi's body. It meant killing the scientists, Kurumi's parents, who were not actually dead, and giving Kurumi a choice to live or go with her parents. She chose to live under the protection of KB.

Two months prior, Aya and Ken proved their worth to KB and went on their first mission as a team. The task was to rescue a former teammate from Side A. This mission was grueling for all members, but eventually they incapacitate Free and escape with him. Aya then became the leader of Side B. A few days after gaining Kurumi into their fold, it seemed that someone recognized her and tried to abduct her, under the pretense of knowing her parents and wanting to protect her. They learn it was all a ruse and Otaki, her abductor, wanted the Human Interleukin-III for his own purposes. Further missions took Side B deeper into the background of KB, as former members reappeared. The battle is inconclusive.

Personality:

Since the tragedy involving his parent's death, his sister's coma, and years of espionage and betrayal, Aya has become a very closed off person. He tends to distance himself by not having a big social life, preferring to remain focused on the reason he joined Kritiker: to get revenge, and protect his comatose sister while earning money to pay her medical expenses. He would like to one day see his sister again, but knows that interfering in her life would only bring trouble.

Aya keeps few friends, and ironically, lots of enemies. But as they say: keep your friends close and your enemies closer. By closing himself off to others, he prevents them from knowing his true self, but in turn he burns the bridge to any possible friendship that comes his way. His focus on revenge prevented him from living the life he had before the tragedy that befell his family.

He is a person of few words, and when he does speak he tends to get right to the point. Over the years he has developed a bit more when it comes to being social, at least around his teammates, and for the sake of undercover missions. Aya does have anger issues, along with slightly annoying sarcasm, although this trait has not surfaced since his earlier days with Crashers. He isn't as angry as he used to be, and it seems that Aya is less bitter at the world than he initially was since his parent's death and sister's coma. Yet if one is brave enough to melt down 'Mr. Ice Block' then they can see that Aya has a good heart, and is just like any other person.

Abilities:

Aya he is adept with bladed weapons, firearms, and hand-to-hand combat (listed in order of strongest to weakest). He is also skilled at infiltration, espionage, and covert tactics. He speaks fluent Japanese and very near fluent English.

Hajime Aikawa | Reserved | Kamen Rider

[personal profile] suicidoll 2012-03-02 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
I'm putting up this application in Airdra's place since she had to get some rest for work. This profile is officially for [personal profile] chalicejoker.

Name: Airdra
Personal Journal:Don’t have one.
Contact Info: airdra400 (Yahoo email), kamenfirestorm (AIM), at this point you’re most likely to hit me messaging through Dreamwidth.

Other Characters Played: None yet.

Preferred Housing: [personal profile] suicidoll will be signing up with Kreutzer, we’d like to have a house together. Other than that, anything is good.

Character Name: Hajime Aikawa
Character Series: Kamen Rider Blade
Character Age: His human form has the appearance of a man in his 20s, but he’s actually thousands of years old…and most of that time was spent sealed inside a card.
Background: http://kamenrider.wikia.com/wiki/Hajime_Aikawa His canon point is right at the beginning of Episode 45 of Kamen Rider Blade.

Personality: Hajime is a very taciturn individual. He’s much more likely to sit back and watch events unfold rather than participate, at least not until he’s gathered enough data on what’s going on. He is generally a fairly calm individual, and he does not display strong emotions often at all. He is very reserved, although he moves with a certain sense of self-confidence that suggests it would be best not to mess with him.

Not messing with him is very wise. The one thing he understands better than anything else is battle. It’s all too easy for an argument or misunderstanding with a friend to lead to a fight with him, and it’s even worse for his enemies. If you behave aggressively towards him, the odds are good he might lash out without really thinking about it. He doesn’t do it quite as often as he might have once upon a time, but it’s always a possibility with him, particularly if he is stressed. He’s also far less likely to act violently towards women and children. There’s no rage with this; he is generally quite calm when he engages in this sort of behavior. Mostly, he does it because he doesn’t know any better. Communicating through violence has been the only thing he has understood throughout most of his existence; the Undead, his species, essentially served no other purpose than to fight for their existence.

He has not had emotions for very long, and he’s still getting the hang of them. Playing poker with him would be a bad idea, as he’s usually pretty stone-faced. Emotions like love and friendship are especially foreign to him, and these tend to confuse him more than anything else. He’s slowly working towards not solving everything with violence, although it is a slow process. He rather likes these new sensations, but still finds them confusing. As time has gone on, he is becoming increasingly more emotive, and he even smiles from time to time. Mostly, this sort of behavior is reserved for his adoptive family, the Kuriharas, mother Haruka and daughter Amane. He has become an older brother to Amane, who adores him.

If his interactions with Amane are any indication, he’s actually pretty good with kids. He’s patient with Amane in a way he isn’t patient with anyone else, and he’s quite tolerant of things like, say, youthful rudeness. Amane has a mouth on her, and most of the time it seems to amuse him more than anything, particularly if she’s giving her uncle, Kotaro, a hard time. (It probably helps that Kotaro greatly annoys Hajime.) He will also utterly destroy anyone who puts Amane in danger. Threatening Amane on his watch is a remarkably quick way to get yourself killed—although he’s quite careful that she never actually sees him transform or engage in a fight with a rampaging monster. Keeping his “family” unaware of his secret is important to him; he’s afraid they would be frightened of him and he does not wish to cause them undue concern.

Hajime builds up friendships very slowly, and this is not helped along by the fact that love and friendship tended to escape him at first in his existence as a human. His friendship with Kenzaki, Kamen Rider Blade, builds up very slowly, with Hajime attacking him after the first time they fight a common enemy together. It’s not until Kenzaki insists on treating Hajime’s wounds after a battle with another, seemingly stronger Undead that Hajime begins to warm to him, albeit in a slow, distant way. Even when he and Kenzaki have seemingly established a fairly strong level of trust, there are times when Hajime is still prone to claim that the only way they can really understand each other is through battle. Even though Kenzaki pretty much becomes his best friend, they still come close to killing one another on several occasions, in part because Hajime’s a lousy conversationalist.

Preferred Housing: N/A

Character Name: Sazh Katzroy
Character Series: Final Fantasy XIII
Character Age: 40
Background: Sazh @ the Final Fantasy wiki He will be pulled from the end of Chapter 11, right before the group returns to Cocoon for the final showdown.
Personality:

*Spoilers for FFXIII!*

Sazh is a man who, while older than most of the characters in the game (Physically in any event), tends to be cheerful and good-natured. He's friendly with everyone and quick with a laugh and often times seems act a little younger than he actually is. In fact, in times of danger, he sometimes fulfills the role of the comic relief character, coming up with an exasperated quip or two in regards to the situation. However this almost carefree attitude belies the fact that despite what it seems, he's seen a lot in his life and been though enough that there is the solid cynicism of an adult mixed in. It's evident when during the game he is sometimes the first to comment negatively in a hopeless situation or seems to express pessimistic sentiments. Another example is that he even admits to Vanille that even before becoming a l'cie he had always harbored some suspicion that the Sanctum wasn't all it appeared to be--Which in the world of FFXIII is very close to dissenting speech.

Sazh is also without a doubt the "Team Dad" of the cast, regarding everyone as 'the kids' and looking out for the younger ones, especially Hope and Vanille. Also being the old man of the group, he tends to be the voice of reason and keeping a level-head when his fellow l'cie get ahead of themselves. This doesn't mean that he is above it. Far from it as it's seen in the events in Nautilus, where he falls into despair and anger his son Dajh becomes crystalized and he finds out who was partially at fault in making Dajh a l'cie (Vanille and Fang's interference at Euride Gorge).

In fact, Dajh means the world to him and is the reason he gets involved in the game. He admits in the Episode Zero novel that Dajh is what kept him going after the death of his wife three years before the events of FFXIII and he puts his son's happiness first and foremost as a result. In the Episode Zero novel and in the game, it's revealed that the whole reason Sazh even gets mixed up initially in the beginning of the game is he wants to actively try to help his son, who has been branded a Cocoon l'cie by the fal'cie Kujata, to complete his focus. Even to the point of attempting to fight a Pulse fal'cie, and unfortunately becoming a Pulse l'cie himself. And when Dajh becomes a crystal (Ironically after finishing his focus of finding Pulse l'cie), he's devastated, almost shooting both Vanille and then himself in grief.

Going off of that event though, it's evident that his darkest moment also reveals his strong sense of doing what's right and a huge capacity for kindness to those he cares about. In the end he doesn't shoot Vanille because for him it would not only be an unforgivable act, but he also acknowledges that nothing would come of it and Dajh would remain a crystal. This moment also reveals his strong will to live despite falling into deep despair as he finds himself unable to pull the trigger to even shoot himself. After some time to think and cool his jets though, he ultimately forgives Vanille for her part in Dajh becoming a l'cie. And in fact he does go back to his old self when he considers that Dajh has a chance of reawakening and is not truly gone. Perhaps not in his lifetime, but eventually. If anything he becomes more determined with his fellow l'cie to bring down the system that's manipulated them the whole game.

Abilities:

Sazh's primary weapons are a pair of pistols that can combine to form a single assault rifle. While they may not appear to do as much damage as the other character's weapons, the fact that he can fire them multiple times and they hit multiple times stacks up. Also, when combined in assault rifle mode, they can be just as powerful as other characters weapons.

As a l'cie he gets some abilities. Mainly the ability to use magic and summon a being known as an Eidolon, a creature of sorts that appears to a l'cie at their worst moments to help the l'cie or give them a swift death. Should they choose to move forward and fight on, the Eidolon becomes their summon of sorts. His is Brynhildr, who is a knight-like fire elemental...And she can also turn into a car. Don't ask how this works, it just happens. Unfortunately, the flip side is that, as a l'cie he's tasked with a focus, a singular objective bequeathed to him by the Fal'Cie, and must figure out what it is and how to accomplish it. Otherwise there's the hazard of becoming a Cie'th, a monster that is all that's left of a l'cie with a failed focus. He's also marked as such by a brand that's located in the middle of his upper chest a little bit below his collarbone. Also he's pretty much on a limited timeline to complete the focus.

In game, characters can switch between roles, known as Paradigms, that are basically either offensive, defensive or healing in capacity. His specialties are:

Commando: Offensive role that's meant to deal heavy damage to the enemy.
Ravager: Offensive role that consists of mostly elemental spells and attacks.
Synergist: Support role that consists of buffing the party up with spells that enhance and protect.

While not an ability per say, in the game he also has a baby chocobo in his hair nearly 90% of the time. It is an attack baby chocobo, able to nearly fell an adult man with it's feathery rage.

Preferred Housing: 1332 Benny Road as a child slot please! I have permission from Miku-mun, Effy, and Poland-mun, Kelly, but if that can't work out, I'll be fine with randomizing.

Character Name: Kyo Sohma
Character Series: Fruits Basket
Character Age: 16
Background: Wikipedia Fruits Basket Wiki
Personality: (I will be selecting the canon point at sometime after chapter 34 / volume 6 of the manga, which is the end of the anime. This means I'll be playing Kyo as he is after his true secret was discovered by Tohru Honda, but not much longer afterward. Whatever discrepancies there will be, if any, between the manga and anime, the manga will usually take precedence over.)

If there is one thing that can sum up Kyo's social interaction, it's that there is a subconscious need to feel accepted, on his own terms and not anyone else's. Many of his outbursts and anger management issues stem from this concept, from his bickering rivalry with Yuki in part due to a bet to become accepted as part of the chineze zodiac (the Juunishi, rather), to his desire to be seen for what he feels he truly is, as Tohru experienced recently. Nonetheless, he is especially afraid of being rejected, defeated, or otherwise conformed against his will, and it manifests in his own apparent denial of himself, even overriding others at critical moments, assuming the worst impressions have already been made or feeling someone is misguided about him.

In most cases, he comes across as brash and reckless in his handling of others' statements or feelings, though recently he is calming down considerably since Tohru has been in his life. The actions and words he uses protect himself from deeper conflicts he holds within himself, such as when he told the dangerously obsessive Kagura that usually people avoid him, and told his mentor & father-figure Kazuma that he hated living in Shigure's house with Tohru. Neither of these are true, of course: he is especially popular with peers around his age, and he has come to care for Tohru greatly. It's because he holds such a burden from his childhood and relation with the juunishi's curse that he projects his fears and self-dejection onto other people.

Due to his curse (both the lesser problem of him turning into a cat and the greater problem of his true form), he mimicks a lot of negative concepts people would have about cats and tries to avoid contact with others. He hates the rain, loudly protests against anything he doesn't like or understand, and has a tendency to wreck peoples' houses, even if it's not entirely his fault. At one point in the canon he was scared enough of pressured interaction with his female classmates on his first day at Tohru's school that he broke social norms and, not only arm-locked a girl to prevent being touched, he jumped out a window at school, demonstrating his cat-like nature by landing from the second floor on his feet running. While this is a general idea that most Juunishi members of the Sohma family exhibit in their own ways, Kyo is far less able to keep his cool and find better solutions.

Despite all of his negativity about himself, he is very loyal to those he cares about, and knows when he's crossed lines enough to make it up to other people. Whenever he inadvertantly took out his frustrations on Tohru he either apologized in his own way, taking back what he has said or addressing his issues on the surface or doing things for her. At many points in the story he even went out of his way to give back to Tohru's own kindness, such as compromising with Yuki to make Tohru feel better or spending New Year's with her so she wouldn't be alone, despite the mandate of the Sohma main house for him and the other Juunishi to attend their celebration. Anyone who manages to break through his wall of issues and get under his skin (in a good way, preferably) can possibly have this sort of relationship with him as well, even if due to his prior interactions with Tohru.

Abilities: His supernatural powers are mainly tied to him being cursed as the Cat of the Juunishi legend, which includes his secret, as well as his natural cat-like agility even when he's human. Outside of that and having trained in martial arts for years, he is just an ordinary human being.

Sample Entry:

[Action | Mayfield High]

[ The scene has many students crowding around a desk during a free period, Kyo Sohma sitting in the middle. ]

Oh my, what daring hair color!

[ This felt really familiar to Kyo, on his first day at Mayfield High. He really didn't want to go. This wasn't any different from usual, even if he wasn't currently cursed, but... ]

Hey Orange, what's your family like?

That's none of your business! Argh... Do you all do this to everyone who's real?

[ ...but he felt disturbed by these 'drones' that he had been told about, and going to an entire school full of them creeped him out. Why was he even talking back to them in the first place? Not even he knew. ]

We just want to get to know you, new guy! Chill out, don't be shy.

[ This was followed by a hand on Kyo's shoulder, which prompted an involuntary grip on the collar of the drone boy as he stood up. ]

Do I look shy to you, you lifeless—

...

[ He released his grip, albeit with a shove, and then shouted as he briskly walked out of the classroom: ]

Whatever, just stay away from me, all of you!

Preferred Housing: I'd like a house with the apping Joe Gibken, but if that doesn't work, go ahead and randomize me!

Character Name: Luka Millfy.
Character Series: Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger.
Character Age: Early twenties.
Background: Here. If that's not sufficient, then let me know.

Personality: First and foremost, Luka is a girl that constantly has her eye on the prize. As long as she can get what she wants in the end, that's all that matters. She's easily distracted by money, jewelry, or something really rare and if she can get her hands on it, then she considers it to be a successful mission overall. Essentially, Luka is very greedy and will use the means necessary to achieve her goal. However, why she is greedy is explained by her past. Luka has had a life of hard knocks, what with her little sister getting sick and eventually dying, living out on the streets and running away from the Zangyack army, she steals because she wants to provide for others and make sure that there is food, shelter and water for the ones she cares about and herself.

When it comes to someone that she cares about, Luka will do whatever it takes to make sure that they're well taken care of, whether it's doting on them or make sure that their needs are taken care of before her own. This, again, relates to her past of where she tried her best to take care of a group of children during a bitter war. However, when it comes to the crew she's a part of, she seems to be rather close to Ahim de Famille. She feels bad due to what she went through with her planet being destroyed as well as due to the two of them being the only women on the ship itself. Yet, Luka also likes to tease her fellow crew members by mostly being playful or just snarky with her words. Additionally, she likes to be in charge when Marvelous isn't around as well as ordering Don to do things, such as carrying her shopping purchases.

To go even further into who Luka is, she tends to be irrational and speaks before she thinks. This behavior tends to get her into more trouble than she'd prefer, but she always tries to get herself, or those she cares about, out of harm's way. She also has very little patience for boredom and can't tolerate it for long. She thrives on adventure and craves for nothing but exciting events to come her way to help stave off the boredom. So, when she's focused on something, she wants it to be the best and nothing but it. However, she knows just when to pull herself out of a sticky situation to get out of it alive. Though, she's not above mocking the enemy or doing other acts of silliness, especially if it helps to achieve her goal in the end.

She's impatient, bossy, self-centered at times, but if someone's willing to look over all of that and see what kind of person Luka is inside, then they'll truly be able to see that she is a diamond in the rough and will do whatever is necessary to make sure those she cares about are safe and sound, no questions asked.

Abilities: Luka is an expert thief and an overall excellent fighter. She prefers to use two sabres when she's fighting that are always connected and can be moved around with her strings to attack an opponent at a long range. If needed, she can also connect them into a two-bladed staff, as well. This is not to say that she just fights with her sabres - she's also a pretty good marksman. However, Luka doesn't need to be transformed into GokaiYellow in order to use her sabre and gun. To go on to her thief abilities, she's able to steal valuable and priceless jewelry, trinkets, Zangyack energy crystals and the like with getting out relatively unscathed. In addition to this, she trains her eyes by identifying shooting stars to help her reaction time in combat as well as spot treasures when needed. Her talent to train her eyes also helps her cheat at poker and she also excels at navigation by most likely using her eyes to find just where they are headed to next.

Her powers are given to her from her Mobirate, a device that can act as a cellphone when needed and with the Ranger Keys, she's able to assume GokaiYellow or any other sentai member that she has access to. Each of the keys have different powers inside of them and when Luka switches, she can gain their weaponry and special powers even if they aren't her own.

The keys can also be added to the gun or sabre for a final wave attack.

Here's a list of the Ranger Keys Luka has/uses most often:
KiRanger – No special abilities. Arsenal: ‘Ki Sticker’ Polearm

In theory, she can use colors outside of yellow for a team-up, such as when the entire team changed to previous Red Rangers, however if she has no need to, she won't do it.

Sample Entry: I have this, however if that won't do, then I've written out another sample.

----

...So, lemme get this right. There's no adventure to be had, no treasure or jewels to be stolen, and we have to comply with these stupid rules or else we get droned or whatever? Well, where's the fun in that if they're just gonna drone us when we misbehave?

And you guys are actually serious about this, to boot?

Tch, you need to have a sense of getting in danger once in a while. After all, they really can't deny us from being ourselves around here, right? So, then, why are we just simply giving them the power? Where's your spine, people?

Let me know if any of you guys want to try to have fun, all right? I'll be waiting~.

Character Name: Gumi (official product name is Megpoid, but everyone just calls her Gumi. No last name)
Character Series: Vocaloid
Character Age: product age is 3 years old, physically appears 16
Background: Megpoid, better known as Gumi, was the second Vocaloid released by Internet Co. Like Gackpoid (aka Gakupo), the first Vocaloid made by Internet Co., her voicebank provider was a famous voice actor. However, Gumi was met by general backlash from the fans mainly concerning her tacky design. Nevertheless, she proved to be adequately well-liked for her high-quality voicebank.

For about a year, Gumi was generally ignored by the fans in favor of the much more well-known Crypton Vocaloids and Gakupo, who was one of the only three male Japanese Vocaloids. However, Gumi’s popularity suddenly skyrocketed when producers began to compose high-ranking songs for her that achieved great fame. This sudden change of events moulded and stretched Gumi’s already eccentric personality to take on an insufferably arrogant side as some fans declared her peak of success “The Golden Age of Gumi”. She raced ahead of Gakupo in the popularity polls, climbing up to the levels of the elite Crypton Vocaloids.

Never judge a Vocaloid by her design; that was perhaps the lesson. But who needed morals? Goddamn, she was popular. As more Vocaloids were released, including two more by Internet Co. (Lily and Gachapoid), Gumi maintained her high position and enjoyed a great deal of affection from her fans around the world. Her ego never deflated one bit, considering it was all due to the influence of the fandom as goes the way Vocaloids function.

The Golden Age of Gumi is never going to end, as far as she’s concerned.

Personality: Vocaloids’ personalities tend to be fickle, since they depend entirely on the influence of their fans. In Gumi’s case, she was at first shoved aside to be the comedy relief oddball as a foil to Gakupo’s samurai zen, and she thus remained as such for a good year or so. No, it didn’t mean she was quiet. On the contrary, the fans enjoyed depicting her as one of the most eccentric and energetic Vocaloids.

A good chunk of her personality actually came about the time her popularity began to crescendo. She’s incredibly arrogant, adores the spotlight, and won’t hesitate to remind people how amazing and awesome she is. But, no, she isn’t intentionally trying to come off as mean or as a narcissist. Actually, Gumi seems to be completely oblivious to anything that doesn’t involve her- that’s how far her self-involvement extends. Although she does genuinely try to make an effort to show some concern for her fellow Vocaloids and whatnot (because what fans will like a singing idol who isn’t friendly?), in the end, it’s all to save face for herself. As such, Gumi is selfish more often than never whether she’s aware of it or not.

Despite her big-headedness and idiocy (which results from said big-headedness), Gumi isn’t always reluctant to sharing her spotlight. Hey, the best Vocaloid out there has to set a good example, right? Right? Right. All acts of friendliness trail back to making herself look good, in reality. It’s difficult to say if Gumi is really nice or mean because of this. She isn’t nice in the sense that she’s selfless (ha, as if she’d ever be), but she never tries to make people unhappy either. It all comes with being a Vocaloid. As long as the fans are satisfied, she’s satisfied. Besides, how else would she be able to keep her fanbase? As such, she's also open-minded (sometimes to a fault)... as long as it keeps her looking good.

Behind that huge wall of pride is the eccentric half of Gumi that had first been shaped in the first year of her release. She often takes the routes that go against common sense, or simply ignores all logic (though that’s mostly to fit her own selfish wants). And with the roaring popularity of UramanbouP’s Gumi songs, which are in lack of better words, batshit insane, that weird part of Gumi remains as strong as her arrogance.

In short, Gumi is an arrogant, eccentric, genki singing robot idol.

Abilities: She’s a robot, but other than that, no other notable abilities.

Character Name: Equius Zahhak
Character Series: Homestuck
Character Age: 6 solar sweeps | 13 years
Background: Here
Personality:  Equius Zahhak is hard to explain, but all in all, it's easiest to say that even from a troll's perspective, he's both extremely bizarre and just a little crazy. He is, like all of the other trolls, very interested in a few specific things, and those things seem to define him as a person. He is unique in that his interests include things like archery, robotics, and...poetry/art about nude, anthropomorphic "musclebeasts". He has an undying affinity for horses and horselike animals/creatures, believing them to be a perfect symbol of his greatest love, "STRENGTH", and he expresses this affinity with both eye-searing "fine artwork" that decorates his home, and terrifying poetry of his own design which he keeps hidden (thankfully), for the most part.

Equius has a terrible temper which he has to keep under control both through careful council from his moirail, and through caged brawls to the death that he participates in with "killbots" of his own design. Most of Equius's rage stems from people not adhering to the hemospectrum (the caste system upon which the trolls' society is based), or from his own inability to complete simple tasks, such as drinking a glass of milk or firing an arrow from a bow, without breaking the glass/the bow/what have you. He is extremely socially awkward and often stands and stares while people do unsavory things (like cutting people in half), but if he is personally offended, he will not hesitate to scold or chastise said offending person.

He has a fetishistic obsession with being dominated both physically and in conversation by others, especially by those whom he perceives to be inferior to him. His considerable strength makes it difficult for him to even gently touch anyone else without bruising them "like a soft summer peach", so being controlled gives him a rush that often leaves him sweating heavily. He is especially affected by being ordered around by those whom he considers lower than him (the lowbl00ds include Aradia Megido, Tavros Nitram, Karkat Vantas, and Sollux Captor) and often asks them to tell him what to do so that he can get a rise out of it (which leads many of the other trolls to avoid talking to him as much as possible). Equius's obsession with his own shame and being controlled often results in him beginning to sweat heavily as well as him being in need of copious amounts of towels to dry himself off.

In spite of his bizarre fetishes, Equius can be incredibly demanding and protective of the few people that he is close to: namely, Nepeta Leijon and the formerly mentioned Aradia. He is extremely loyal and also has a strong belief in the trolls' caste system, which he obeys (almost) unwaveringly. He considers his romantic attraction to Aradia to be scandalous and considers her death an opportunity to "place her where she belongs" on the hemospectrum: i.e., filling her robotic host body with his own blood so that she will be his equal. He considers Nepeta's blood "okay but not good", though he never refers to her as low-blooded or "filth" like he does Tavros or even Aradia before she becomes a robot. He thinks that the indigo-blooded Gamzee's behavior is ludicrous and shameful, and he often tries to "steer him in the right direction" by getting Gamzee to order him around, which Gamzee doesn't really acknowledge until much later on in the story (at which point he's gone completely insane).

Although he can be very demanding and stubborn, Equius can also be sensitive and caring, although he is typically only so with Nepeta, whom, as his "moirail", knows more about him and understands him more than any of the other trolls. He opens up to her and talks to her about how he feels for Aradia and what it means to him when her robot body explodes without her saying goodbye to him. He also allows himself to be slightly less tightly wound when alone with her, even going so far as to try to roleplay with her (though it was obvious that he didn't really understand what he was supposed to be doing and he found it to be rather frustrating because of that). He has also shown compassion by helping a few of his other fellow trolls by building robotic body parts to replace their lost limbs--his lifelong neighbor and fellow blueblood Vriska Serket and the low-blooded Tavros specifically--even though he dislikes Tavros almost exclusively simply because of his low-grade blood. He can be talked into things very easily in spite of his somewhat stubborn nature (or rather, he can be ordered to do things easily, as long as a towel is handy).

Like all of the other trolls, Equius also has a distinct typing quirk. He types in his blood color, as do the rest of the trolls, but he also begins each line of text with a "D -->", signifying an arrow being launched from a bow. He also uses percent signs in place of X's, 100's in place of the "lu" sound and 001's in place of the "ool" sound, and an assortment of horse puns from time to time (primarily when he is nervous or engaging in roleplaying games with Nepeta).

Abilities:  Equius's most notable abilities are:

1.) His ludicrous strength. He's so strong that he can't even drink from a glass of milk without shattering it, or give his centaur-like guardian a gentle pat on the head without bruising him. He has easily beheaded a massive monster with a single punch before, as well as leapt great distances with no trouble whatsoever.

2.) His skill as a machinist. He has built an array of impressive robots throughout the course of his canon, including hundreds (if not thousands) of robots designed to fight him to the death in caged matches, a fully-functioning robotic body with a working vascular system for Aradia, a mechanical arm for Vriska, and an entire lower half for Tavros. He can build just about anything, and understands anatomy at an expert level. Unfortunately, his inability to be gentle prevents him from performing surgery or helping with any injuries that are purely bodily.

Nora Fries | Batman The Animated Series | Not Reserved! Part 2

[personal profile] warmhandtohold 2012-03-02 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
History and Origins

Early Years: Nora lived in the more urban parts of the city with her little sister Dora and her mother and father. Despite having little money, the family was generally happy until Nora turned 10. Her father had been given a military draft to fight in the Vietnam War and if he didn't go, he could be faced with prison. So her father left. Now there was even less money than there was before, and her mother waited obsessively for the next 2-3 years before finally receiving the dreaded "Killed in Action" letter. Immediately afterwards, her mother was soon far too grief-stricken to provide much in the way of proper love of care, and Dora was becoming less and less accepting of others.

Adolescence: The journey through adolescence was a difficult one. Nora's true personality as someone who was honest, intelligent, outspoken and with a talent for sciences and the performing arts, especially dance, emerged. Nobody accepted this at all. Her peers beat her violently, often to near-death , authority figures regarded her as an annoyance and Dora repeatedly told her that this personality is what got their father killed. Still, Nora persevered, and in the end she did receive a sciences scholarship to Gotham State University. However, this came at the cost of her family, as her Dora and her mother refused to recognise or regard her as part of their family any more.

Nora Fries | Batman The Animated Series | Not Reserved! Part 3

[personal profile] warmhandtohold 2012-03-02 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Meeting Victor: At the University, Nora worked extremely hard, having chosen the cryogenics department, and decided to take on a small job as a part-time librarian, and participated in ice-skating competitions and theatre productions, which not only helped her to start enjoying life again, but also earned her some amounts of money, which proved to be very useful. However, there was no-one whom she was close to, and she longed to have a bond similar to the one that she had with her father, since she was "his little girl", even after Dora was born. Two years after she entered the campus, Victor Fries, another brilliant student had arrived. She could sense that he was not like the other students and attempted to talk to him, and whilst he did open up bit by bit, what truly started their bond was when she had taken a hit from a bully that was meant for Victor which fractured her jaw. Victor and Nora grew closer to each other, and started to grow attached to each other, and eventually fell in love with each other. On year after they met, they were engaged, and one year after they received their doctorates they married on Christmas Eve, because Nora absolutely adored snow. Then, they both took on jobs at GothCorp and worked together on many projects. Nora had never been happier during this time, and all the gaps that were there had now finally been filled.

Falling Apart: After 8 years, however, Nora fell ill with an inoperable illness called Schivell's Disease which would cause the spinal cord tissue to literally deteriorate and die. Victor was completely devastated by this and decided to use the CC-100, a cryotube that he and Nora had just finished building, to preserve her until he could cure her. During her time in suspended animation, Nora realised she could see what was in front of her but it was more like a dream of a hallucination. Nora carried on, fully determined to live. When she finally awoke, though, not a single soul was there. Knowing in an unusual way what happened to Victor, she set out to find him when she was in full health again.

Personality

Traits:
Friendly with most people, but has now developed a sort of ability to sense a the benevolence (or lack theorof) of a person's intentions
Theatrical. She adores the theatre, and all things related to it, which explains why her teasing and jokes carry a bit of a Shakespearean influence as well as the fact that her personality is almost never apathetic or boring or unfeeling
Stubborn, to the point of being reckless at times
Determined to walk forward through any pains or traumas that may occur, and often tells others, "Stand up and walk. Because the only way on is to keep moving forward.
Honest. She hates liars and hypocrites and as a result, is never one herself
Outspoken, and is never afraid to point out mistakes others have made or biases in any form
Poetic, both in the way she talks and really is very much like a poet, in terms of her way of looking at the world.
Loyalties: Victor. Even if he is a criminal now, Nora still loves him and will always try to help or support him, mainly because she knows for a fact it really isn't his fault that he became who he is.

Character Name: America | Alfred F. Jones
Character Series: Axis Powers Hetalia
Character Age: Over 300 (Appears to be in his early 20s)
Background: Wikipedia Link

Personality: AMERICA IS THE HERO. If there's a problem, America is your go-to guy! Okay, sure, he might not always fix something exactly how others would, and your situation might end up more Things America Likes than Things You Asked For, but hey, his heart is in the right place, okay! Your life would have totally sucked without him!

America really does have a heart of gold, and a strong desire to help those in need. He just has a tendency to act without thinking, or to get caught up in his own ideas and forget that his preferences aren't everyone's. He's fairly shortsighted as well, and doesn't always remember to factor in what will be most beneficial in the long run when deciding on a plan of action. That being said, he has an incredibly acute sense of right and wrong, and he won't stand by idly while injustice is done! He just really really wants to help everyone, and only partially because he wants the recognition and adoration that comes with being a hero! (That doesn't mean he won't occasionally take a little more credit for things than he deserves.)

On the other hand, he's also the type of person that gets pissed off and can hold grudges for a long-ass time. For example, taking him from 1956, it's smack in the middle of the McCarthy era witch hunts. Once America gets it into his head that something-- or someone-- is bad, or against the cause of "freedom" (at least, his definition of it), it can take a hell of a lot to convince him otherwise, and he will often ignore evidence that runs contradictory to his views, while propping up anything that proves his point.

America's also kind of an airhead. Despite having a brilliant mind for science (some of the greatest inventions and scientific advancements of our time have come from America after all!) he tends to lack common sense. He more or less operates on a different wavelength than the rest of the world-- marching to the beat of his own drummer, if you will-- which sometimes gives him a hard time understanding why other countries would do things the way that they do, and definitely gives most other countries a hard time understanding why he does what he does (just look at his "screw the rules I do what I want" continuing use of the imperial system).

Abilities: Since he is the personification of a nation, he has an explicit connection with his country and his people. His health is affected by the well-being of his country (for example, economic crises or wars manifest themselves as illness or injury). On the flip-side, he has a high resilience to more mundane injuries. Wounds caused by conventional methods will not hurt him as much as a normal human, and will heal fairly quickly.

Additionally, America is gifted with superhuman strength, to the point where he was lifting bison over his head as a toddler.

In terms of regular human abilities, he's an experienced fighter and a somewhat decent tactician. He has a great interest in science and technology, and an almost encyclopedic knowledge of pop culture.

A.>>Action [1649 Albright Lane]

Nora slowly opened her eyes, and kept them wide in shock as she suddenly lifted herself up from the bed she was lying in. Next to her was a man who was clearly not her husband and she could faintly hear the sounds of children snoring in the neighbouring room. She quickly got of the bed an dressed in the most... likeable clothes she could find, alongside a pair of boots to walk in. As she slowly walked inside the house, she could not take her eyes off the pictures surrounding her, clearly in shock. The minute she reached her hand to touch the graduation picture, her hand quickly drew away and the shock on her face changed to ardent determination. This was not and would never be her life, her husband, her children. Clearly some damaged or sadistic person decided to give her this false bliss and take away all the evidence of the life she truly live. The only proof were the engagement and wedding rings on her finger. She walked outside the house to find a perfect looking street. The faint sound of stirring told her the 'household' was already beginning to wake up. Glancing quickly to the left, she rushed to the phone without a second thought, wanting only answers as to why she was here and where her husband was.

B.>> Phone [Open to anyone]

[In a very stubborn, clearly annoyed and serious voice]

Hello. Excuse me I would like to know why I am here with a completely false family and life, if he is here, the location of my actual husband, Victor Fries. If you find him, please tell him, that I am on 1649 Albright Lane. Thank you.

Wanyudo | Hell Girl | Reserve 1/?

Name: Spazzy
Personal Journal: wanderingspaz.livejournal.com
Contact Info: AIM: Spazthelegion; Plurk: http://www.plurk.com/spazy
Other Characters Played: The Captain
Preferred Housing: "N/A"

Character Name: Wanyudo (whatever you want to do for a last name).
Character Series: Hell Girl
Character Age: Looks to be in the 50-60 range. Hundreds of years old otherwise.
Background:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wany%C5%ABd%C5%8D - The myth.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hell_Girl_characters#Wanyudo - From Hell Girl.

Personality:
Wanyudo is a very old yokai, born of regret and vengeance. He might have once been human, but that was a very long time ago. Still, he is a pretty decent actor. He lacks a certain empathy, at times ,with modern ideals.
His outward appearance to strangers, or those he is disguised from, is a friendly old man willing to listen to whatever you want to tell him. He’s smile, make small talk and sometimes slip questions of morality in just to see how people will respond. He often doesn’t give the appearance of a frightening yokai.
Wanyudo works for Ai without moral qualms. He assists in sending many to hell, including innocent people, without showing hesitation. He torments and assists to torture her targets until they confess their sins.
He seems disconnected from modern society at times. Not understanding certain behaviors, modern trends, or life choices made by people in this day and age. He mentions how things went in his day in comparison or as explanation for this. It’s often the younger companions who explain it to him.
He’s been around a while, though, and knows quite a bit about the world of the supernatural that they live in. He is often the voice of wisdom to the others. He takes the initiative on certain things based off his own knowledge even if it isn’t directly involved in the job.
He cares for Ai and is very protective of her companions. For Ai’s sake, he often seeks out threats or problems before they have a chance to cause her dismay. Scouting around in whatever disguise he has taken on at that time. When other members of that “family” of companions get into trouble, he steps in to stop it or prevent them from doing something too dangerous.
In the end, he will not go against Ai’s commands so long as they don’t lead to her being dragged to hell. He’ll work outside of her attention sometimes, even at risk of her displeasure, so long as she does not command him otherwise. In extreme cases he will stand between her and whatever action she is taking if he thinks it will save her from hell.
He does have some quirks of his own, beyond the disconnect with the modern day world. He is a habitual smoker, and seems to have a general affinity to fire. He has some respect for those who drive on roads. He gets annoyed on occasion, usually over a particular nasty target, or being interfered with or with annoying people in general. He also seems to generally prefer driving or carrying people along.
On rare occasions, he has given those who wish to make a contract with him the chance to turn it down. He even goes as far as suggesting so when the deal seems a little weak. He sometimes mentions alternatives to making a contract with hell.

Character Name: Alphonse Elric
Character Series: Fullmetal Alchemist (Manga/Brotherhood)
Character Age: 16
Background: Here

Personality: Alphonse is at once child-like and wise beyond his years. His emotional growth was stunted when his soul was placed in a suit of armour as a child, and as such he's retained an innocent and almost naïve outlook on life. He's genuinely kind-hearted and compassionate, and will go out of his way to help anyone in need. He has an intense love and respect for life, and will protect it at any cost. He states that he has seen too many people suffering on his behalf, and he will do anything at all to make sure nobody else ever has to suffer or die for them (he and his brother). This can lead him to taking reckless risks with himself in the pursuit of protecting others, such as shielding a chimera working for Greed inside his suit of armour, to try and prevent her being killed by Fuhrer King Bradley. Unfortunately, he is unsuccessful and the inability to protect her left him with an even stronger desire to make sure nobody else was killed if he could help it.

He prefers to see the best in situations and in people, trusting long after most people would have turned their back and giving chance after chance to the people around him. Even those he's come to see as his enemies, he is capable of trusting if the situation demands it – this is shown clearly when he asks Scar, who has been murdering State Alchemists and attacked his brother, to take an injured girl from the battle as they had no other choice to get her to safety. Another example is with Von Hohenheim, his father who abandoned the family when he was a very tiny child. Unlike his brother, who remains bitter and angry at the man, Al almost immediately gets along with him and even believes the fantastical tale about his past without any doubts.

Definitely someone who could be described as optimistic, Alphonse always looks for the silver lining in any cloud... and he has a lot of clouds to choose from. Instead of dwelling that he is unable to eat any longer in his armour body, he instead keeps a snack list of things he will eat again when he can. He takes a certain amount of pride in his 'hair' (a long ribbon of hair attached to the helmet of his armour) and is distressed when it gets cut short. He still loves things that a lot of children do - like playing horse-back rides with the small children they come into contact with, or taking care of stray cats by hiding them inside his chest cavity.

That's not to say Al is incapable of darker moments; he is still only human, after all. The tragedy of losing their mother, and the subsequent failed human transmutation to try and bring her back, is something that haunts both brothers constantly. For many years, Al blamed himself for the transmutation failing, as he had been inside their 'mother' looking out at Ed. However, they learned that it had never even been their mother in the first place, and some of his guilt there is assuaged. He still blames himself for Ed losing his arm in order to transmutate his soul, and is determined to find a way to get it back for him.

There are moments when he gets overwhelmed or sad by their situation, at one point telling Ed that they have to get their original bodies back, as he can't cope with the loneliness of the nights any more. His armoured body can't sleep, can't eat and can't feel, and he often laments that he can't feel the rain or sun on his face any longer. He can also be a little sensitive about his size, woefully declaiming that he never asked to be this large. Just like any boy fighting such impossible odds, sometimes he doubts himself and their abilities to get their original bodies back, even allowing another armoured soul (Barry the Chopper) to half convince him that he had never even been a real boy.

But these moments are always ones that Alphonse overcomes, falling back on his immense trust of his brother and the determination to 'keep moving forwards'. It would be a good point to note here the relationship that Al shares with his older brother, Ed. The two are very close, being all the family they have left after their mother died and their father abandoned them, and Al would literally do anything for Ed. This is shown the most prominently near the end of the series, when Al sacrifices his own life in order to give Ed back the arm he lost (via equivalent exchange), so that his brother can continue fighting on.

In many ways, he is the opposite side to the same coin as Edward. Where Ed is loud, brash, obnoxious and hot-headed; so Al is quieter, calmer and much more capable of thinking logically through a situation. He even says at one point that it's not fair he never gets to lose his temper, as Ed always gets there first. But however brash Ed can be sometimes, Al knows that his brother has a good heart. And in that, they are pretty much the same - they'll both fight for life, and for the good of everyone around them.

Abilities: Alchemy would be Al's greatest ability. Alchemy is based on the rule of “equivalent exchange”, meaning to create something, then something of equal value must be lost. It's a science of manipulating matter, which apparently comes from tectonic plates in the Earth. The art of alchemic manipulation of matter is called “transmutation” and must be performed using a “transmutation circle”. Alphonse, as well as his brother Edward, are two of the only people to be able to perform alchemy without needing to draw one of these.

He's a prodigy much like his brother, as both were shown to be able to understand complex alchemical theory at a young age, although he trails slightly behind him in talent. To be an alchemist, a person has to understand complex theories as well as in-depth recognition of elements. For example, when the boys were trying to bring their mother back from the dead, they actually calculated the exact amount of minerals and so forth that make up a human body. Al's alchemy is much less 'flashy' than his brother's; it's equally as effective, but he tends to keep his actions efficient and to the point.

He's also very strong, agile and quick on his feet as a hand-to-hand fighter. His teacher, Izumi Curtiss, made sure of this. It's stated in canon that Al is a better close combat fighter than Ed, and the elder brother has 'yet to win' a fight against him.

It should be noted that in his metal armour body (which he may regain at some point), he also has the added advantages of being invulnerable to pain, the elements, as well as not needing sleep.
