Applications

• Please read over all the rules and information before applying in order to minimize any confusion before joining.

• If applying for a character that has already been dropped, it would be a good idea, though not required, to know something of their previous interactions. You are also free to pick up a dropped character with no memories of their previous time in Mayfield.

• All content for the personality and sample entry in your app must be written or roleplayed by you; for the personality section in particular, we do not accept copied text from wikis or other sources. Obviously, you may not copy your app from other players, whether in Mayfield or other games. Application plagiarism will result in a ban from the game.

• If you wish for your character to be placed in a specific house, please mention this in the relevant section of the application and specify that permission was obtained by the PCs already residing in that house. We will be operating by the Honor System for this, and there is no need for others to comment their permission in this post!

• Other special requests would also best go in the beginning of the application. Remember, grammar and spelling are important -- if your app contains errors, you will be asked to revise.

• Please post all applications or canon updates in this post; posting them elsewhere and linking to them from here may cause them to get changed later. Posting them here keeps us from having to save them.

When Applying, Fill Out the Following:

When Applying for an Original Character, Fill Out the Following

• Before applying, please look over any applications that were recently accepted to get an idea of what we're looking for.

• If you apply for a character that has already been reserved, we will inform you and ignore the application until the reserve runs out. You may not apply for more than two characters from the same canon. For the sample entry, you may write your own entry, or use a post from a musebox, dressing room, or other game. We recommend [community profile] testrun_box if you prefer the latter!

• After you're accepted, please follow all of the instructions given. You will need to reply to the acceptance, post your journal to the friend add page and your canon post, join the communities, and use the friend add page to update your journal. Once you're accepted, please introduce yourself on the community when you're ready to play.

• If your app is "Pending", do not freak out! This means that we need you to make some revisions, and does not mean you're rejected. We generally give players a chance to revise before rejecting them, but we will reject apps that do not address the concerns stated when we asked for a revision. If you have been rejected, our reply will clearly state this to be the case. If we have not gotten back to you yet, under no circumstance does this mean you are rejected. If it has been over a week since our last reply, it would be a good idea to contact us with a reminder, otherwise, please be patient!

• If you have received a "Pending" notice, you will have one week to supply us with your revisions, or your reserve will be considered expired and that someone else is free to apply for the character.

• The typical wait for a reply on apps may be anywhere from a day to a little over a week. If any part of your application requires a pending, it may be another week after your reply to that before we can get to you. We process a high volume of apps every round, so please be patient.

If you have not heard back on a pending for over a week after apps close, please send a PM directly to the mod account.

Karolina Dean | Marvel Comics | Not Reserved

[personal profile] marvelously 2012-05-09 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Sam
Personal Journal: [personal profile] powers
Contact Info: AIM: Supergirled Plurk: Capes
Other Characters Played: Mary Batson
Preferred Housing: N/A

Character Name: Karolina Dean
Character Series: Marvel
Character Age: 17
Background: http://marvel.wikia.com/Karolina_Dean_%28Earth-616%29
Personality: Karolina's very sweet and easy to get along with, but it's important to remember that she has her own values and she sticks to them very closely. She's not exactly your normal girl, she believes in human and animal rights and cares about saving the rainforest, and she was in at least one protest. She doesn't mind if you have your own opinions, but she sticks to her own, and she doesn't enjoy people using the words 'gay' or 'retarded' as derogatory terms. She sticks up for what she believes in. She's also a vegan, a lesbian, and in canon, an alien, but none of these things strictly define her. She's not a walking stereotype, and these are all just pieces of her.

At first appearances, Karolina is bright and easy to get along with. People notice that she's extremely caring, and almost maternal around her friends. She's always there with advice, or just a great big hug when you need it. When someone wants to talk to her about something, she'll take it seriously, and is accepting of almost any fault a person might have. She teases and jokes a little bit, but never crosses the line, and isn't cruel. She's fun, always up for any type of game, and encourages people around her to always try and be their best. Karolina also likes to flirt, with both genders, though she's so playful about it, it's hard to tell if she's ever being serious or not.

Underneath that all though, Karolina's a little bit darker emotionally. She held a death wish for a long time, and it still shows it's head from time to time. She's extremely sensitive and emotional, and will get caught up in her own guilt and self-hatred for being different often. She tries to keep people from seeing this part of her, but if someone's particularly close to her, it's almost inevitable. She seems to rely heavily upon her relationships for emotional stability, especially if they're of romantic nature. She has a lot of issues feeling like she's on her own that are locked up inside of her. Karolina's not incapable of being happy by any stretch, but she does find it harder than the usual person does.

She's the girl next door, the big sister, the blond, the 'dyke', the outcast, all wrapped up into one. Karolina struggles with her multi-faceted identity often internally, but rarely lets her struggles shine through where people can see her. She just wants to just be a normal girl, and tries to handle things with a mature, grown-up air about her. It rarely works. Karolina's dependable most of the time, but on occasion her darker personality traits hold her back from being dependable. It's something she struggles with a lot, but one thing's for sure.

Karolina hasn't, and will not give up yet.
Abilities: Karolina's a Majesdanian- a type of alien. Previously her powers were hidden by the use of a medical bracelet, but thanks to an adventure in space, she can control them completely.

Her powers are fueled by the sun, and she's much more powerful during the day than she is at night. She can fly around and shoot solar beams from her body in this form, but if she uses it too much at night, she can run out of power. If this happens, she'll revert to her human body and have to wait until the sun rises again to use any of her powers. Her solar beams can come in either small or large bursts, or form large and extremely powerful forcefields. It should also be noted that the solar energy is infused in her blood as well as her body, and that this can be deadly to Marvel-verse vampires.
Sample Entry: [Phone- Drone Filter Ahoy]

Sooooo, I noticed something. A lot of us seem to... y'know... not be completely- gender neutral, or straight, or whatever. Or maybe confused about some things, or-- [Karolina lets out a little breath. It's hard to speak up like this, okay!] You know, whatever. So, I was going to make a club. We'll convince all the drones it's a cooking club or whatever. But I wanted to make a GSA at the school. [She pauses again, mustering the courage] You know. A gay straight alliance. Somewhere where we can be ourselves, and get support or whatever we need. I know I could have used some when I was still really confused about my sexuality. It'll be a safe place.

It'll be in Room 206 after school, no drones or jerks allowed. I'm not below using my powers if I have to. Seriously guys, I just want to create a safe place for us to talk about our feelings.

[Action- Grocery Store]

[Karolina's in the grocery store, browsing the vegetables. The meat section's getting a critical eye, and she's just trying to stay away from it. But her choices are limited! She throws her hands up in the air, and lets out a frustrated little groan.]

Seriously, how hard is it to make good vegan meals here? I'll bet these aren't even all-organic.

Gransurg Blackmore | Tsukihime | Not Reserved

[personal profile] garvan 2012-05-09 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Bo or Boyan
Personal Journal: coonzilla on livejournal
Contact Info: AIM: coonzilla
skype: code_geass53
Other Characters Played: None
Preferred Housing: N/A

Character Name: Gransurg Blackmore
Character Series: Tsukihime
Character Age: over one thousand
Background: over here

Personality: Gransurg is a vampiric being, so i cannot display him as a person with many good intentions towards others, be they human or nonhuman. However, he can be extremely loyal and obedient towards beings greater than him.
His personality can be described as a mad crow, laughing at everything. He can sometimes be annoying, but when yelled at, he falls silent in split second. Though his face is almost completely hidden, his smile cannot be seen, Gransurg is commonly laughing, cawing like a crow with spreaded hands (mostly when alone, as he is acting more serious, especially around the other Apostle Ancestors).
He finds the tragedy of others amusing, and has a black mischievous sense of humor.
Blackmore has a eccentric persona. He can also be called crazy. He is idealistic, curious and intelectual. As he has an obsession with birds his behavior is similar to their. Cowing, making weird movements, waving his hands like wings and marching like a soldier.
Gransurg cannot be called a friendly person. He ignores people he does not approve and is uninterested in their opinion, thoughts and company.
The birds are his best friends.

Abilities: : Common vampiric abilities such as: super strenght and speed, fast regeneration and immortality.
Gransurg Blackmore's passion are birds. He reveres them as holy creatures and the kings of the world. He takes on the appearance of a humanoid with the features of a crow and he is capable of shapeshifting into a large bird, several kilometers in size (it is his ultimate form). His numerous minions, rather than transforming from humans into pure vampires, have become hybrids with heads and wings of birds. They too are bloodsuckers. Blackmore is skilled in carrying souls with his thaumaturgical system based upon birds, as they are known as "those who carry the souls after death" in the world of magi.
He has a Reality Marble called Nevermore which was used to wipe out the previous sixteenth's clan of over one hundred vampires without damaging anything or staining the castle walls, gardens, or curtains with a single drop of blood after declaring "-Be careful, gentlemen. The birds dancing in my sky are vicious only to the dead-". It covers the sky with a canopy of "death wings" that produce a "world of death" where absolute darkness swallows the light of the moon and stars.

Sample Entry:

[Gransurg walks slowly, with a palm over his forehead. It is a hot spring afternoon, and he couldn't have picked more agonizing time for a walk. It is obvious that he's in a pain here.]

- That sunlight is killing me...Gaa~... must find a tree. And this scent in the air... im starting to salivate.

[A few more steps on the hot road, surrounded by houses, with flowers and lawn gnomes, things he was not used to see, and he didn't approve. "So irritating" he thought. ]

- Aside from the hellish heat, i could at least enjoy the birds singing in the trees..Gaa~ What is this twisted place?

Character Name: Jane Foster
Character Series: Marvel Cinematic (Thor)
Character Age: Never stated, but when can assume between 29 - 31
Background: Right this way! She'll be taken post Thor.

Personality: Jane Foster is a brilliant and talented young astrophysicist with a keen interest in the unexplained and unexplored. Jane is incredibly stubborn- or, if you want to look at it in a kinder light, strong-willed. She can be open to reason, but only after she's heard all of the factors, and only if they make sense to her. Jane is a pragmatist, a woman possessed of a scientist's soul. She takes her work very seriously, and can be something of a workaholic. It's not something she can help; Jane just loves what she does, to the point where she can be fiercely protective about it. A flaw of Jane's – or perhaps a great trait – is her tendency to throw herself into situations with barely a thought, whether it's for her work, or someone she really, really cares about, there is no stopping her. Focused, strong-willed, and determined, she will do what she must to get the answers she's looking for, even if it comes to forgetting basic needs for herself or others, whether it be food, or taking someone to the hospital...Ahem, but with some gentle (alright, stern) prodding, she can be persuaded.

But don't let these lead you to believe that Jane doesn't care, because she does so, remarkably. She's known for her incredibly kind heart, and willingness to take on and believe in any challenge that comes her way. Due to her extremely hard-working nature, being a social butterfly is not one of Jane's specialties, and can occasional come off as rather abrupt (go back to the occasional forgetfulness). There are very few people she can deem as friends, or even friendly, because it is her work that holds her attention, first and foremost. Meaning, romantic relationships are an even rarer thing - her last boyfriend, Donald Blake, called it quits because of her work, something she's not all that fond of discussing. Then again, who would be?

Abilities: Nope, none. Jane is just your typical, human female.

Re: Henry Mills | Once Upon a Time

[personal profile] theboywiththebook 2012-05-10 01:42 am (UTC)(link)

Personality: Henry is very bold and is always willing to break or bend the rules when he feels it is necessary. Examples of this would be when he ventured out of Storybrooke on his own to find his birth mother and stole his teacher’s credit card to fund said expedition to see his birth mother. This all stems from Henry having lived with Regina, his adoptive mother, who he never felt really loved him. But also because Henry wishes to change the situation he is in. Having lived with Regina, someone he felt always emotionally neglected him; he wanted a better life for himself and went as far to find his birth mother to begin that change. In a sense breaking the curse on his town is also shows the significance of what he wants changed. Since Storybrook was the place where no happy endings could happen because of the curse Henry wishes to break that curse so the happy endings may come back; in doing so this would allow him to have the change he wants to his life.

Henry also has a firm belief in what good and evil is. This due to the influence of the story book Mary Margret gave to him. With these firm beliefs he sees Regina as evil being capable of anything. This would be due to the fact of his complicated relationship with Regina and the storybook showing Regina what she had down in the fairy tale world. In this belief he also has an extremely caring nature towards others as he wishes for the curse upon Storybrooke to be broken from the queen’s evil curse. At times when it was essential Henry has told Emma that no one could leave the town in fear that something terrible could happen like with Ashley, Ava and Nicholas.

Henry has a strong belief in magic and the power of happy endings. Since he is a child this allows for these views to stay with him but is grounded into him because of the storybook. He is very outspoken about his views and his opinions. When his mother continually tells him that there is no curse, Henry continually stays strong in his belief and tells her otherwise. Even with Emma who is a hardcore realist Henry doesn't falter on his belief of fairytales being real. This however usually earns him a bit of criticism as most people tell him that he’s just making it up. Usually when this happens Henry becomes very defensive in his stance about the town being cursed trying to convince those who don’t believe him. This makes him very sensitive to being called crazy as he knows he is not. However if he is pushed far enough Henry will go out and try and find proof for his story. This has led to him going into an abandoned mine when his therapist had outright called him delusional.

Henry is very idealistic as he believes that Emma (someone who does not believe in Fairy Tales or happy endings) will be the one to save Storybrooke. With this belief in Emma who doesn't believe in magic makes him very optimistic as he has yet to stop believing in her. He has a strong faith in her and those who are willing to help break the curse. Even if people do not believe in him, he is willing to believe in those he loves and trusts no matter what. This even leads him to being a very brave boy for his age. Since he believed so strongly in Emma, he was willing to eat a cursed apple turnover Regina had given to Emma believing Emma would save him. His naivete gets the better of him though. Since he is so young he fails to grasp sometimes the seriousness of the curse until something bad happens. Like with Graham he had not realized how dangerous with trying to break the curse was until it was too late.

Henry is also very persistent in what he does. He will not give up on what he believes in no matter what, even if people tell him he’s wrong or crazy. However like any little boy he can become discouraged wondering if what he is doing will actually help anyone. When Graham had died Henry was unsure if that he should even continue trying to break the curse. But because of his faith in Emma he can continue to preserver no matter how hopeless a situation may be.

Abilities: None, he’s a normal little boy. He does however have a story book which he likes to carry around (though I know he won’t have it to begin with it.) It holds though all the stories of the Enchanted Forest up to the point the curse had been enacted and put everyone from the Enchanted Forest in Storybrooke.

Jeanne D'Arc | Drifters | Part 1

[personal profile] burnbabyburn19 2012-05-10 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Jacob
Personal Journal: n/a
Contact Info: Plurk - Imaginos
Other Characters Played: Mart Vineyard, Desty Nova
Preferred Housing: N/A

Character Name: Jeanne D'Arc or Joan Of Arc
Character Series: DRIFTERS
Character Age: 19
Background: On her pre-Drifters history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joan_of_Arc

While being burned at the stake for heresy and witchcraft, betrayed and in despair, Jeanne was offered an exit by the mysterious entity known as EASY. She forsaken her humanity and became an End. A former human now bestowed with vast supernatural power. Through this, she joined the army of Ends and monsters led by the mysterious and genocidal Black King.

She helped stage a raid in the North along with her fellow ends including close companion, Giles De Raiss. She burned dozens of soldiers with her flames.

Later, she was sent by The Black King on a mission to eliminate The Drifters along with Giles. She fought the Drifter samurai Toyohisa Shimazu and the Octobrist Olminu, at first having the upper hand using her pyrokinetic capabilities. Toyohisa managed to turn the tables on Jeanne by tactically tackling her into a well by using Olminu's magic.

Submerged in the water, Jeanne felt her rage cooled and her fires extinguished. As well, Toyohisa found out that Jeanne was in fact a woman, and spared her, believing it to be dishonorable to kill a woman. Jeanne attempted to strike back at Toyohisa for this insult but he headbutted her unconscious. Later her body disappeared from the well and she's more than likely regrouping with The Black King's forces.

Jeanne D'Arc | Drifters | Part 2

[personal profile] burnbabyburn19 2012-05-10 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: To say this version of Joan of Arc is hot-headed is an understatement. She has repeatedly been shown to be quick to anger and quick to rush into the battlefield immediately. In both cases letting loose a torrent of flames from her pyrokinetic powers. The thing that angers her the most being mistaken for a man due to her appearance and style of clothing. When Toyohisa did, she caused a massive inferno that engulfed the area.

In opposition to her original idealistic personality, due to her death at the hands of the church for heresy and witchcraft, despite her devout devotion to Christianity and God, she has become a maniacal nihilist who ants nothing more than to burn the world of the God who had forsaken her. To show this, she has painted numerous upside down crosses upon her uniform and armor and has repeatedly bemoaned her death.

She is fully devoted to The Black King and his cause for human extermination and sympathy for the non-human races such as goblins, who she fought alongside with in battle but will mercilessly kill those such as Elves who have allied with Drifters. As well, she was close with her fellow End and confidant, Giles De Raisse, fighting together and coordinating attacks. Though she does not know of his demise at the hands of The Drifters Nobunaga, Butch Cassidy, Sundance Kid, and The Octoberists, the news would surely devastate her and cause her rage to raise to new heights.

As well, Jeanne only seems to be happy when she's in the midst of battle, laughing maniacally and cheering as she burns down human cities and the Black King's army ravages the land. This also being a display of her arrogance. Toyohisa even notes that her excessive use and reliance of her pyrokinesis is for attention and a show of pride rather than efficiency. She truly enjoys fighting and especially bringing her fire to the battlefield.

Jeanne also seems to have a quirk for repeating phrases and words, as though to analyze situations further. The only thing that seems to calm her rage and make her more placid and capable of talking rationally. She notes that water was the thing she longed for so much, to ease the flames that had burned her before. It also reminds her of her death at the stake, possibly bringing despair and clarity to her psyche.

Abilities: As an End, Jeanne has gained above average durability, super-human healing, and her signature ability of pyrokinesis. Jeanne creates her flames off of her own skin, which causes it to reveal her burned scars, which fade thanks to her healing factor. She's able to create anything from a spark, a bolt of fire to a full, exploding wall of fire. Jeanne is also a trained swordsman and tactician. Usually equipped with a sword, she's also more than capable of using knives for throwing or close combat, and other blades. Though an experienced fighter, against someone of a master level, she would not do as well. She's also a proficient horseback rider, both for travel and attacking enemies.

Sample Entry:
[Phone]

This place is Hell. Hell. Or some sort of purgatory. The only way to escape is to purify this town. And without my gift as an End, I need the next best thing... where can I acquire devices for creating flame and explosions? I must create flames and explosions! The fire shall purify this town.

All so I may rejoin the holy conquest of The great Black King!

I know not if there are other Drifters or Ends in this town, but my mission to my Lord remains the same.

All the Drifters and miserable humans shall die! Die! And this world shall burn at my fingertips! If you might help me you might be spared the righteous flames. But only if you might help me.

Mason Cliffside | Original Character

Name: Jacred

Contact Info: AIM: spidergravyinc | E-mail: tarkya@gmail.com

Preferred Housing: N/A

Character Name: Mason Cliffside
Character Age: 14
Background:
World Background: It was nearly a millennium ago when the first humans set foot on Lithos. These colonists from the stars had flown long and far to reach this small, habitable world, some seeking a new life, and others seeking to make a fortune with the world’s resources. Whatever their purpose, they were quick to claim the new world as their own, cannibalizing their ships and the machines that had maintained them to jump-start their infrastructure. In a short hundred years Lithos had become a thriving colony, focused primarily on mining the world’s rich ore deposits.

Two hundred years after landing, the first of the Lithos crystals were discovered. These crystals proved to be a powerful source of energy, making them especially desirable for a society craving new sources of power. Several corporations arose on Lithos, focused on exclusively mining and processing the gems, and then sold them both on world and to other worlds among the stars. Five hundred years in, Lithos was a wealthy world, and its needs were increasingly served by machines that were powered by the very crystals they were built to mine.

Then the crystal mines started running dry.

Faced with the reality of decreasing payloads and higher local demand for the crystals, the corporations of Lithos reduced their exports in an attempt to conserve the diminishing resource. The once peaceful society grew troubled, and as their power and wealth waned the people of Lithos began to fight over what was left. It started small, with a few riots over prices, but as the crystals grew scare soon people were attacking mines and looting storehouses in an attempt to acquire more of the crystals that had become so vital to their way of life. The corporations did what they could to protect their assets, transforming the machines made for mining and farming into mechanical guards, and soon into more proactive soldiers. Such a blatant act of aggression only served to enrage an already desperate populace, and the people responded in kind with machines and weapons of their own.

Six hundred years after landing and fifty years after the mines hit their peak, the once prosperous world of Lithos was nearly unrecognizable. Cities were razed to the ground, and the towers that were built to manage the armies of machines loomed over their remains. The war did end, but not because there was a victor - it ended because the people who remained couldn’t stand to go on any longer. The war nearly ended there, with the people of Lithos coming together to put together their broken society and finding a new beginning. It nearly did, but a new problem arose in the calm.

The machines, which had for so long been the foot soldiers of the war, wouldn’t stop fighting. No one knew if it was a defect in their programming, or some purposeful part of their design, but the consequences were immediate and severe - the machines turned on their masters the moment they tried to shut them down. The war that should’ve ended continued with new players: the people of Lithos, and the machines that once served them, now acting in mindless rebellion.

Fighting the machines turned out to be an exercise in futility, so the people of Lithos instead chose to wage a war of attrition. After all, no matter how powerful the machines were, they ultimately relied on the increasingly rare crystals to power them. The surviving humans retreated into areas where the machines could not reach them and built their strongholds there, anticipating the day that they would finally be able to reclaim Lithos from the machines.

One thousand years after landing, that day finally seems closer than ever. As the machines’ power continues to wane, people have begun to spread out across Lithos, reclaiming old cities and old knowledge. Some people discovered that they possessed the ability to sense crystals in the earth, descendents from some ancient attempt to improve mining output. Even more bizarrely, these people were not only ignored by machines, but they could even give them simple commands, though they were only effective for so long. Eventually these people were called “crystalsmiths”, and with their assistance people were able to launch assaults on the machines and their control towers, accelerating the rebuilding of Lithos. It’s been a long and dark war, but people are finally starting to see the light at the end of it.

Personal Background: Mason’s early life was spent in a small town on the outskirts of Cliffside, a massive city built into the side of a mountain and one of the largest in Lithos. He was only four when the town was attacked by a machine that had wandered into the area unnoticed. Mason lost his parents that day, but he was somehow spared. When people came to investigate the attacks aftermath they found Mason alive, scared and alone in the remains of his home.

There was no family to take him in, so Mason was taken to Cliffside and placed into an orphanage with other children. The adults that ran the orphanage were distant at best, but it was a place of relative stability. For a while Mason was a quiet and sullen boy, but he gradually opened up to the other children in the orphanage. They became his new family, and with their help he started to heal the wounds left by the death of his parents.

In fact, Mason became something of a wild child under their influence. The orphanage caretakers were acceptable at their jobs, but they didn’t provide much love or structure. Mason would often go on “adventures” with his friends, sneaking out of bed at night to explore the city and generally get into trouble. They almost always got caught, and would be punished with extra chores or withheld desserts, but this didn’t dissuade Mason or his friends. The idea that they were terrifying their caretakers didn’t occur to them.

One night, when Mason was feeling particularly daring, he went with his friends and travelled further than they’d ever gone before - to the borders of the city. They didn’t plan to cause trouble; they just wanted to watch the guards perform their duties. They were even lucky enough to see them in the act of fending off a machine patrol, which was about as exciting as the night could get.

Then the machine broke through the defensive lines and made a beeline for the very location the group of children was watching from, and things got a little too exciting. Most of the children were smart enough to bolt, but Mason was paralyzed with fear. As the machine approach, the boy desperately cried out for help, for his parents, for the machine to just go away... and it did. The machine retreated out of the city, and the guards saw it all happen. Mason was taken in and questioned, and soon they found out just how the boy had survived both this recent machine attack and the attack that had orphaned him; he was a crystalsmith.

Crystalsmiths were especially important to the mining economy of Cliffside, so his status was revealed to the city council as soon as possible. Since Mason was already a ward of the state it was easy to foster him out to a family that would train him in the proper use of his skills and prepare him for a future in mining. He wasn’t happy with being taken from the friends he’d made at the orphanage, and at the beginning he caused a lot of trouble for his foster family. Over time he mellowed out some, though he was still hard to handle.

When he had learned everything he would from tutoring, he was sent to work in the Cliffside mines for the first time. It was difficult and dangerous work, but he was quick to learn the tricks and skills needed to survive in a world where tunnel collapses and serious injuries were just part of the job. Over time he managed to befriend the older workers, but people came and went so often that none of his friendships went on for long. Life continued like this for a couple of years, and by the time he was 14 it seemed like that would be its shape forever. Then, he met Harley.

Harley was a traveler who’d come to the mines as a temporary worker, just long enough to earn money for food and supplies. She seemed to take a shine to Mason when they first met, and the two became fast friends. While they didn’t get much time to talk during work, they would often meet up afterwards and talk. Harley would tell the stories of her travels, and Mason would talk about life in the city. It wouldn’t be exaggerating to say that Mason loved Harley. Her life was one of freedom and danger and adventure that stretched beyond the walls of Cliffside. Over time he began to see her as not just a friend, but a sister.

But she was only a temporary worker, and when the time came for her to move on he was heartbroken. He’d lost plenty of friends before, but he’d never lost one quite like Harley. It was the last straw. The day she left, Mason decided that he wasn’t going to sit around and let life happen to him any more. He packed up everything he owned, left a note explaining what he was doing, and left the city in pursuit. If his friend wasn’t going to stay in Cliffside, then he would just have to make the effort to stay with Harley. He found her a few days away from the city, and while she was surprised and worried about having a younger boy traveling with her, Mason made it clear that he was going to stay with her. She eventually surrendered, but only on the terms that when she decided to take him home, he would accept the decision without argument. Mason was quick to agree.

Thus, Mason started on a journey of his own.

Personality: First impressions of Mason paint him as being a quiet but friendly child. His life’s been a hard one, but he’s struggled through it with a relatively positive attitude. Sure, he didn’t get much in the way of a normal childhood, and he’s probably had more hardships than most kids his age deserve, but it hasn’t really been a bad life. He knows that there are worse fates for an orphan crystalsmith. Mason’s never had to worry about having a roof over his head or an empty stomach, but he’s known people who did. He’s grateful for his luck, and he demonstrates it by enjoying the life he has.

You could call Mason brave. After all, his job involves a lot of crawling through unstable tunnels and interacting with people who don’t always appreciate an energetic child, and he does it every day. He’s faced down machines, even though they’re the most frightening thing he knows of. The problem is that it’s hard to tell what’s legitimate bravery and what stems from childish illusions of immortality. Sometimes he seems to forget what common sense is entirely and will go charging into situations he’s ill prepared for, expecting that things will turn out okay in the end. Considering how often potentially deadly situations have turned out okay for him, it would probably take something serious to prove to him otherwise. Whatever the case, his bravery and willingness to try something dangerous has served him well in life. If he were afraid of taking risks, then he might have never discovered he was a crystalsmith, he would’ve never met Harley, and he would’ve never worked up the nerve to pursue her when she left the city.

Mason’s pretty clever for his age, mostly because he’s the sort of person who asks lots of questions. When there’s something he doesn’t know, he’ll ask question after question so long as the unfortunate victim cares to answer them. He dislikes being explicitly taught, but he loves to learn new things, usually by experiencing them first hand. He learns best when he’s able to go out and try something new on his own, but he does appreciate it when there’s someone to go to, just in case something doesn’t make sense or goes wrong. Sure, he likes to take risks, but he not always able to handle the consequences of those risks.

Much of Mason’s early life consisted of being moved from place to place, and that made it hard for him to form stable relationships with other people. He craves companionship and is quick to make friends, but he sometimes finds it difficult to really let himself get to know other people, or to let them get to know him. It can make friendships with him frustrating; while he’s usually pretty calm, there are days when he’ll be oddly distant and days where he’s almost obnoxiously clingy. He’ll often try to impress people even when they don’t need to be impressed, and sometimes he’ll act a little jealous of others. However, once you get past those bad days Mason is a true friend, and he’ll do absolutely anything for the people he loves most of all.

Be it caretakers, foster parents, mine foremen or the Cliffside council, Mason’s always had some kind of “boss” in place of parents. He’s used to obeying others, and if you want him to do something you don’t have to tell him twice. As soon as he understands what’s expected of him, he’ll do it, and while there’s no guarantees that he’ll do it well, you can at least expect him to put in his best effort. Usually. He’s got a stubborn streak that occasionally shows its head. If he decides that he doesn’t want to do something or doesn’t like someone it becomes difficult to convince him otherwise. Not impossible, but difficult. The same goes for when he does want to do something. The moment he decides he’s going to put his mind to something, then he’ll do whatever it takes to complete it, no matter how difficult it is or how much other people discourage him.

For all his cheer and shows of compliance, Mason can be quite the troublemaker. In the orphanages it manifested with occasional outbursts and his nightly “adventures”, and during his time working in the mines it took on more subtle forms, like stealing bits of crystals to sell for pocket change or leading miners on wild goose chases for ore. Getting caught doesn’t seem to discourage his troublemaking for long; he’ll behave for a while, but he’s quick to return to his old habits. Really, the only time when he’ll actually stop causing trouble is when it causes people to get hurt, and all too often this happens after the fact. It seems like the only way the consequences sink in.

Abilities: Mason’s spent a lot of time in unstable tunnels, so while it’s not really an ability he’s become sensitive to shifts in the environment around him and reacts quickly when he thinks he’s in danger. He’s small and quick and good at squirming his way out of tight spots (both physical and situational), which has saved him from injury more than once in his life.

As a crystalsmith, Mason is naturally attuned to the electric charge of Lithos crystals and similar power sources such as batteries. This allows him to both detect them and guess at their strength. Detecting them is a bit like dowsing, with Mason getting vague impressions of their location that become more accurate as he gets closer. Determining power levels requires physical contact with the object, and it can really only be precise when compared with other objects with known power values.

He’s also able to safely interact with Lithos war machines and give them simple orders, though it’s not always effective and only lasts until the machine receives orders from its command tower. Not that there are any of those in Mayfield.

Sample Entry 1:
[Mason sounds either annoyed or bored over the phone. Or both. Probably both.]

I know that school’s important and we’re s’posed to go or else we get in trouble, but it’s so boring. I’m not some little kid, I’m fourteen! I don’t need to sit around all day learning things like... math or reading or history that ain’t even real.

[After a moment, his tone becomes considerably more chipper]

So I’m not gonna go anymore. I don’t care if I get in trouble, I’ve been in trouble loads of times. Anyone else wanna skip with me? It’ll be loads more exciting than sitting inside all day listening to a bunch of old barkers, I promise!

Sample Entry 2:

[Mason's a little quiet when he starts talking.]

Lately I can’t help but thinking about how different here is from back home. Mayfield’s kind of... boring, once you get past the drones and the crazies and all those scary things that happen to us.

I mean, back in Lithos you gotta be careful all the time, because you never know if there’s gonna be machines or raiders or people getting sick. And the cities don’t like each other a lot, so they’re always fighting even though people pretend they don’t. But here, it’s just... quiet. Kids going to school and people working.

[He's gotten rather loud at this point.]

And somewhere it’s actually like this! I wonder if Lithos was like this before the wars and the machines, just people living without having to worry about when they were gonna eat or if they weren’t coming home. Boring... but kind of nice sounding at the same time.

Personality: For a Mad Dictator's Handsome Son, Gil is a surprisingly friendly guy. His first instinct with new people and places is diplomacy and bargaining, rather than immediately getting to the "blowing things up" phase. Notably, in a world ruled by mad scientists and their doomsday machines, he never built a weapon until it became strictly necessary; his first invention was a friend, and he seems to have a fondness for flying machines over death rays. Like his father, he's a strategic thinker, but he hasn't yet developed the cynicism necessary to jump straight into "shouting and threatening like a cut-rate stage villain," in his own words.

This doesn't mean he's afraid to take the gloves off when it's necessary, though. Being a rather young heir, it's common for him to not be taken very seriously when he attempts the diplomacy angle and that is something of a berserk button, especially considering where in canon he's being taken from. He often deals with insane mad scientists and their creations; for obvious reasons these types aren't prone to bargaining and tend to disregard him when he attempts it. He's only had to resort to force a few times over the course of his canon, but when he does it's always impressive.

Part of the reason why Gil values diplomacy is because he really wasn't raised as Klaus's son. For many years he simply didn't know who he was; he was educated along with the children of nobility, so he learned how to run a country, but it was a while before he realized he'd have to use that information to hold together an iron-fisted empire. As a kid at the bottom of the pecking-order in a group of students, brute force never really got him anywhere, so he never learned to value it until Klaus started testing him and personally outfitting him to take over the empire from him.

Speaking of Klaus, their relationship is... interesting. Gil does care for his father in a subdued way; having grown up with no family, it's only natural that he should grow close to the one he's found. On the other hand, Klaus has very specifically raised him up this way so that he wouldn't hesitate to take up his station should anything happen to him, so there's not much closeness between them. Their familial ties show themselves in little ways, in Gil's genuine worry when his father is hurt, in Klaus's willingness to do anything to get Gil off of a potential battlefield(not to mention his complete pride at seeing his son take down an entire army with an invention of his own design, then direct the aftermath like a pro). They do love each other, but it's kind of difficult on both sides. They're new at this whole family thing.

Abilities: Gil is a Spark, which in this context means he's a mad scientist with a talent for warping the laws of nature. It's treated as a special attribute that can be harnessed and typically pops up in adolescence; those without the spark can be fine mechanics and inventors but only sparks can be powerful mad geniuses, in the "doomsday machine built out of a lamp and paperclips" or "reanimated corpse" kind of way. That's really the only thing about him that would be taken away according to Mayfield protocol.

Sample Entry: Sample entry at Dear Mun! It's set up basically the same way as a phone post, and there should be enough comments to make a decent impression. If needed, I can add something.

Bella Kirkwood | A Charmed Life | Not reserved (2/2)

[personal profile] thenewnancydrew 2012-05-11 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Background: Born in New York to a plastic surgeon to the stars and a model, Bella grew up with plenty of money and opportunity. She used the money to her advantage, spending a lot of her time going on shopping sprees with her friends. She was an A-List girl, getting into the hottest parties and the coolest clubs. She went to an all girls private school, where she wrote an advice column for all the girls who needed a little bit of guidance. While neither of her parents were big on religion, she was a good Christian girl who went to church on Sundays and prayed regularly. By the time she was fifteen, she had anything a girl could want. The best friends, an amazing boyfriend who had looks and personality, and a nearly endless supply of money.

That all changed, though, when her father traded her mother in for a newer model. They separated, and within six months, her mother was getting remarried to a widower farmer in the depths of Oklahoma. Bella was forced to move away from her friends, her boyfriend, her father, and her life just so she could start a new one in a town where people didn’t know the difference between Payless and Prada.

Upon arriving in Truman, Bella managed to get on the bad side of her peers in a matter of days. When word of her blog — where she’d written some particularly nasty things about the students in her school in her fits of anger and despair -- got out, her classmates turned their backs on her. On top of that, she was put on the newspaper staff, and Luke Sullivan, editor in chief, was not happy about it. While investigating some bogus story that involved dumpster diving for the paper, Bella overheard a real story. The football team was up to no good, and Bella had made it her personal mission to figure it out. But of course, when she tried to let Luke know, he didn’t believe her. Her only choice was to go solo.

Bella began to investigate, diving deep into the mystery. She got herself into trouble that Luke had to pull her out of, and eventually, he decided he needed to keep an eye on her. Bella grudgingly agreed to work on the case with him.

It wasn’t until Bella got kidnapped by the psycho captain of the team that she put all the pieces together. Bella narrowly escaped death that night, saved (once again) by Luke. With their magnificent teamwork, they solved the case, published the story, and brought closure to a lot of people in the town.

Just when Bella was getting used to her life in Truman, God threw another curve ball at her. Her step-father was going to be on a reality show, one that would also capture her life on camera. Plus, Luke revealed the fact that he had a girlfriend, and she found out her cheater ex-boyfriend was in town. Talk about one bombshell after another. It was only several days later that her friend Anna was framed for stealing the junior class funds, and Anna decided to put Bella on the case to get to the bottom of it.

Of course, Luke claimed the story for the missing class funds, and he had no intentions of letting Bella figure out the mystery on her own. Then Ruthie McGee, a prom candidate just like Anna, hired Bella to find out who photoshopped pictures of her kissing somebody who wasn’t her boyfriend. That was when Bella made the connection. Between the framing of Ruthie and Anna, and the fact that the reservations for the caterer for prom somehow got canceled, she came to the conclusion that everything happening was tightly tied to the prom.

Bella dived head-first into the prom sabotage case. Again, it was Luke’s job to keep an eye on her, not that that stopped her from getting into trouble. She got threatening letters that told her to mind her own business, and her life was endangered more than once. It was like the football fiasco all over again, but worse.

It took a while, but eventually, they were sure they figured it out. They thought they had found the guy who was trying to ruin prom. It was somebody who had means, motive, and opportunity. They felt like the pieces had fallen nicely into place, and they declared it a case closed.
It turned out, though, that they were wrong. It wasn’t who they originally thought it was at all. It was a close call, but Bella and Luke managed to save the day without prom getting blown up, catch the real culprit, and sort out their feelings and become a couple.

Bella just couldn't seem to catch a break, though. Only about a month after the prom fiasco, the Fritz Family Circus came to town -- and so did Luke’s ex-girlfriend Ashley Timmons, and that girl was on the prowl. In the same night, Bella found the dead body of Betty the Bearded Lady, and found Ashley getting all kissy faced with Luke. Even though both Luke and Ashley said it was Ashley’s fault and she was the one that initiated the kiss, Bella called it quits and decided a break up was in order.

After that night, she decided she was going to become Betty the Bearded Lady’s avenger. To get on the inside, she got a job at the circus as a clown. Not the most ideal job, but it would have to do. Like all her past cases, Luke wouldn’t let her work this one alone, whether or not they were broken up. Also like all of her past cases, this one was dangerous. She had a convicted murderer contacting her, she had gotten threatening letters, and she was pretty sure her suspects were onto her.

She managed to put the pieces together finally, but it was almost too late. Luke had to save her from a burning building, and together, they caught Betty’s killers and brought happiness to the people around them.

Bella ended her junior year by solving a murder and getting Luke back as her boyfriend. Not a bad deal, in her opinion.

Personality: More than almost anything else, Bella is nosy. She has a natural curiosity that’ll keep her asking questions and probing for useful information. She won’t stop until she’s satisfied, even if it means coming back for a second, third, or even fourth time. This curiosity can easily get her into trouble, but she always manages to find a way out of it.

One of the main ways she gets herself out of sticky situations is her charismatic personality. She’s not afraid of engaging strangers in conversation, and she’s been known to captivate people through her charm. Flattery, in her opinion, can get you almost anywhere, and she’ll definitely use that to her advantage. She’s confident in just about everything she does. This includes her crime solving abilities and her writing skills. She’s always had a very high self-esteem. She’s very passionate about everything that she does, and makes sure that she follows her projects through instead of just getting them partially done.

Even after the reality check of moving to the small town of Truman, Oklahoma, she can still be snobbish at times. She’s a lot more open-minded when it comes to what she wears and who she befriends, but that doesn’t mean she wouldn’t pick a designer brand over store brand if she got the chance to. She still cherishes the moments she gets to take her daddy’s credit card out for a day and spend it on whatever she likes. Without a doubt, she still dresses to impress. Her sometimes sarcastic and witty comments and replies can also make her come off as a snob.

Bella is a very stubborn girl. Once she puts her mind to something, there’s not a force in the world that can stop her. This is what makes her such a good crime solver, but this is also what gets her into so much trouble. She’s impulsive and doesn’t think before she acts. She’ll dive headfirst into any situation without thinking about the consequences, or her safety. She has a strong sense of justice. If she feels like somebody is being wrong or cheated, she’ll try her very best to make sure that it stops.

Despite the fact that she’s stubborn, though, she’s also quite forgiving. This is shown when she forgives and befriends her ex-boyfriend after he cheated on her. She’s friendly, lending a helping hand to those who need it. She’ll help cater her mother’s parties, and she was more than willing to give her friend a makeover to impress the boy she likes.

Character Name: Molly Hooper
Character Series: Sherlock (BBC)
Character Age: 31
Background: Born in Oxford, Molly was raised by her English professor father and her mother, a nurse. She was an only child, and so she grew up playing by herself for the most part. Most of the neighborhood children were afraid of Professor Hooper, a foreboding man outwardly, and thought Molly quite strange, and correctly so. She was a strange little girl, collecting dead birds from the yard and dissecting them, just to see what was inside. She had a fascination with death and other morbid affairs, which earned her a further reputation as an odd duck. In school, she was good at most subjects, but she especially liked science, and by Year 10 she was already taking advanced biology and chemistry in an effort to learn as much as possible. She completed her A-Levels and then completed her pre-med degree at Oxford. During her university years, she didn't make much in the way of friends, preferring to work hard at getting high marks instead of going out and socializing.

After University, Molly was accepted to St. Barts and completed her clinicals and medical degree there. At first, her goal was to become a pediatrician, but after completing her pediatric rotation and dealing with the death of a patient, she decided it wasn't for her. Watching a child die and seeing the parents' reaction was not something she wanted to do for the rest of her life. Her fascination with death and dying, while unfortunate as a child, was benifical here, and led her to become a forensic pathologist, and so she finished her degree in just that concentration. It was easier for her to deal with the dead—they were far easier to handle, and didn't feel pain or suffering. Her fellow students found her comfort and easy familiarity with the dead off-putting, but she didn't mind, and was hired on at Barts after graduation as a morgue attendant. Sadly, it wasn't long after being hired that her father fell ill, and within the year he passed away from kidney failure. Molly was especially close with her father, so this was a hard blow, and caused her to revert even further into her shell, spending much of her time at work and throwing herself into work. It was there that she met Sherlock Holmes, and was presented with the dilemma of being in his aquaintance. Now she lives in London, and occasionally assists Sherlock and John with their cases, mostly fetching coffee and bending morgue rules.

Personality: Sweet and shy for the most part, Molly initially comes off as mousy, even gawky, despite her age. She's earned the nickname 'Little Miss Perfect' from her coworkers, a name she accepts despite its ill will, because she is a perfectionist. Far from perfect, though, she has a tendency to babble, especially around a certain handsome detective, and doesn't really understand the finer points of social interaction, or that nobody particularly wants to hear about her cat or the latest episode of Glee. To her, this is as exciting as her life gets, with dates far and few between, and little desire (at least outwardly) to go out. She tries to keep her cool, maintaining a (mostly) professional and friendly demeanor and being as helpful as possible in order not to be deemed useless, but her efforts often fall short.

However, there's a reason for her quietness, and her shyness—she's afraid to put herself out there, to make herself known. Sticking her neck out means taking a risk, and that's something Molly hate's to do. It's easier for her to stay in her little shell and be safe, than to take her chances and wind up getting hurt. She's especially learned this through her experiences with Sherlock, being shot down at every turn. Her most notable trait, however, is her loyalty. She remains a faithful ally through most any kind of adversity, as long as she believes in the person or cause. To her, it's worth it to bend rules for Sherlock so that he can perform important experiments, even if they're not all that important in reality, and it might be more beneficial to her personally to stand up for herself. She's very selfless, though, and her self esteem isn't so high that she can always see the benefits of doing so.

In conversation, Molly is far less smooth and concise than she'd like to be, often stumbling over words or stuttering or just trailing off when it becomes clear that nobody is interested. She's painfully obvious in her attempts to flirt, but the finer points of subtlety are lost to her. However, she's always as nice as she can be, feeling that it never hurts anybody to show a little kindness, whether or not the receiving party deserves it. This might end up getting her hurt more than it helps, but with her sunny outlook, Molly rarely finds it in her to gripe (at least, out loud) or to be rude. She has the rare emotional outburst, but it is usually followed by mumbled apologies, essentially trying to invalidate her complaint.

Quirks-wise, Molly has a tendency to go off on tangents in the process of relating to others, without meaning to or really realizing she's doing it. She wears clothes that are cutesy, covered in vintage florals, corduroy, and sweaters that are just on this side of tacky. She dresses for comfort, though, and she likes her clothes, no matter what anyone else might think of them. The same goes for her taste in music. She's a huge lover of Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach alike, and is an avid fan of the American series Glee. And, of course, she loves her cat Toby more than anything in the world—well, almost.

Abilities: None.

Sample Entry:

[Molly's settling into the housewife routine well, for someone who's never really cared about cleaning or cooking or any of that, besides basic tidying up and popping a frozen dinner into the microwave. She feels like Snow White here, minus birds helping out. The birds only like to shit on her windowsills.

Her windowsills? She's never thought anything like that before. She's never really thought of things as hers. The cat, the flat, the curling iron. Possession has never really worked its way into her vocabulary before.

Strange, too, how she's fallen into the wife role. Here, she'd been thinking there was something wrong with her, that she'd never find anyone, and now she's been just handed a husband, and kids to boot. She'd like to have had the whole baby experience, maybe fallen in love before marriage, but you can't have everything you want, after all. Maybe this is less than ideal, but that's life.

She pulls a tray of cookies out of the oven, setting it on the cooling rack and smoothing down her apron. Then, leaning out the window, spreading the shutters wide, she calls out to the kids in the backyard:]

Cookies are ready, darlings!

Hal Jordan | Green Lantern | Not Reserved

[personal profile] sir_hellsing 2012-05-11 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Background:

Born to parents Martin and Jessica Jordan of Coast City, California, Hal is the second of three children. Hal had a relatively normal childhood and grew up wishing to become a test pilot like his father. When he was eleven tragedy struck- Martin died in a plane crash during a highly anticipated test flight for his employers, Ferris Aircraft. There at the presentation to cheer his father on, Hal witnessed the accident first hand, his greatest fear come to terrifying reality. As a result he became even more obsessed with planes, to the point that he would cut school and sneak into airfields just to watch them fly. Needless to say this caused his mother no end to her stress, and she forbade him from having anything to do with aircraft.

That...really didn't work. On his eighteenth birthday, Hal ran away and joined the Air Force and became a Big Damn Test Pilot. While he was one of the best and brightest in the Air Force, he was also one of the most reckless, known for pushing jets past their limits and having more than a few death-defying landings to his name. Seriously, it could be a flaming ball of nothing but cockpit and he could not only land that sumbitch, but walk away without a scratch. The way he figured, he already experienced his worst fear. There was nothing else to be afraid of.

Shortly after thrashing a thirty-million dollar F-16 ("[having] saved the Air Force two years of test flights", as he put it), his younger brother Jim got back into contact with Hal to inform him that their mother was dying of pancreatic cancer. Hal was desperate to visit her, but both of his brothers put their foot down. Their mother had wanted nothing to do with Hal while he was in the Air Force, and seeing him might upset her already delicate condition.

So between getting reamed over the loss of the jet the following morning and stewing sorrowfully over the news about his mother, Hal made another bad decision. As stubborn as he was, he couldn't just walk away from the Air Force- so he decked his CO in the face. Ta-da! Dishonorable discharge. Joy.

In the end, he arrived too late to see Jessica before she died. His older brother Jack blamed him for her death, which was...misplaced but understandable, in hindsight. Out of the USAF, Hal got a job as a flight mechanic in training for Arden Air, learning under Tom Kalmaku. He came to reunite with Carol Ferris, who had stepped in to control Ferris Aircraft for her father Carl, who had seemingly pushed Martin Jordan to stay in the air the day he died. Both were underwhelmed by this experience.

In the midst of this, Sector 2814's current Green Lantern, Abin Sur, crash landed on earth and died, but not before his power ring summoned Hal and informed him that hay bro hay, you're the new GL of this sector. Welcome to the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force tasked with protecting one of the 3600 sectors of the known universe.

Transported almost immediately to the GLC homeworld of Oa after faffing with his shiny new power battery, Hal landed in with GL drill sergeant Kilowog's boot camp for n00bs. Hal made an impression by, what else, punching him in the face. (Sense a trend?) After a week of successful training, he returned to earth. During his time away the purchase of Arden Air by Ferris Aircraft was finalized, and the pilots in service instituted a walkout in protest. Asked back into the air by Carol herself, he reluctantly agreed and was back in employ as a test pilot once more.

Hal then went on to meet Sinestro, Abin Sur's pupil and arguably the best Green Lantern in the Corps. Following an encounter with the newly-telepathic and psychotic Hector Hammond, they went on to confront Atrocitus, who was brought to earth by Abin Sur in order to find out more about the whacked out prophecy of the Blackest Night. Which...will end up happening twenty or more years later canon-wise so we're not caring about it right now. Following the assbeating of Atrocitus, in which Hal got dressed down by Sinestro for being an angry dickweasel and told to grow the fuck up, Hal decided he'd go right to the source of his anger- Carl Ferris.

Instead of finding Carl Ferris enjoying his golden years golfing on a beach, Hal discovered that the man had in fact been riddled with guilt over Martin's death, the stress having finally taken its toll. Carol stepped in for him, sacrificing her dream career as a pilot to run the family business and take care of her ailing father. Besides feeling like a dick, Hal finally came to terms with the grief and loss he felt after his father's death, and to let go of the anger that had fueled him constantly for sixteen years. In the end he began to repair his relationship with his family, starting with his brother Jim, letting him in on his awesome GLness.

And not long after he wound up in Mayfield. Again. Fantastic.

Sailor Aluminum Siren - Sailor Moon - Unreserved

[personal profile] likesottlyfab 2012-05-11 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Sailor Aluminum Siren's personality is two fold. She comes across as being a very ditzy and airheaded person who is utterly oblivious to the serious and dark nature of her job as a Sailor Animate. She's easily swayed by her emotions, to the point that she can't work when she's upset and feels compelled to eat her feelings. She carries snacks with her at all times, despite it seeming unprofessional in her line of work. She's also very polite to the point that she formally introduces herself to all her victims before attacking them for their starseeds. She even goes as far as to present Sailor Moon with her professional business card, before any fighting can begin. She will even point out inappropriate behavior and poor manners in the middle of a fight, going to far as to scold Sailor Uranus and Neptune for doing their dramatic entrance while standing on a table with their shoes where people eat. Once when she was outnumbered by Sailor Soldiers, in a last ditch effort she threw juice boxes off at snack cart at them as a hopeless attack before finally retreating.

Despite this she is incredibly competent at her job and is second in command of the Sailor Animates, second only to her rival Sailor Lead Crow. The two competed fiercely with each other to see who would be the leader of the Sailor Animates. While she finds Aluminum Siren to be idiotic at times and wonders how such a ditz ever managed to become her rival, Lead Crow knows that Aluminum Siren is clever and very powerful and respects her dearly.

For example after Siren scolded Uranus and Neptune for their bad manners by standing on the table with their shoes on, she managed to embarrass them enough that they became distracted, allowing both her and her partner Sailor Lead Crow to escape. She is also proficient at removing starseeds from human beings, being able to remove three starseeds from three separate individuals at the same time to create one super powered phage to attack Sailor Moon after luring her into a trap. She is the only Sailor Animate to do this. Siren was the only Sailor Animate clever enough to figure out who Sailor Moon was and that Sailor Moon was the one who held the powerful Sailor Crystal that Galaxia was looking for. She also had the foresight to write it down in her diary incase anything happened to her in the line of duty, which the surviving Lead Crow later found and utilized in later missions. She was completely unwilling to surrender once she found the Sailor Crystal despite the odds being against her and only retreated once she had exhausted all her options, vowing to come back with a new plan.

The backstory as to how she came to work for Sailor Galaxia is a testament to her own ruthlessness and desire for power. Sailor Aluminum Siren was not a true Sailor Solider and was given her powers by pledging her human starseed to Sailor Galaxia. In her pledge to Galaxia and her cause, Siren also killed the Sailor Scout designated to protect her home planet Mermaid, in order to usurp her place and powers. After killing Sailor Mermaid, Galaxia rewarded Aluminum Siren with two bracelets giving her the power of a Sailor Animate. Galaxia then destroyed planet Mermaid, killing the entire population of the planet including Siren's mother. Siren went on with the other Sailor Animates and Galaxia to conquer and destroy Sailor Soldiers and their planets in all the constellations and 88% of universe in search of Sailor Crystals. Under Galaxia as a Sailor Animate she has contributed to unparalleled destruction that the universe has never seen before.

Because her power was given to her by Galaxia, Sailor Aluminum Siren feels indebted to Galaxia and serves her eagerly. She also harbors a fear of Galaxia however, due to the power she wields over Siren. Just as Galaxia gave Siren her new life as a Sailor Animate, Galaxia can take it away. If Siren's bracelets are removed, she will die, because she no longer has her human starseed to keep her alive. Siren was given her chance to run the mission with Sailor Lead Crow, because Galaxia had already killed the previous mission leader, Sailor Iron Mouse for her repeated failures. Siren strives to succeed not only for Galaxia and her cause, but for her own survival.

Abilities:
Bracelets - Siren was given two bracelets by Sailor Galaxia in exchange for surrendering her starseed and killing the patron sailor scout of her home planet, Mermaid. The bracelets mimic the power of a sailor crystal and allows Siren to transform into a Sailor Animate, essentially an artificial sailor scout created by Galaxia.

The bracelets also give her the ability to remove starseeds from humans turning them into 'phages' that Sailor Moon must heal back into humans. She's especially skilled at this, being able to remove three starseeds from three humans at the same time to create an even more powerful phage. They also allow Siren to remove sailor crystals from sailor scouts, killing the sailor solider it is taken from.

Because she traded her starseed to Galaxia in exchange for the bracelets, Galaxia has complete control over Siren's life and Siren is completely at her mercy. If the bracelets are ever broken or removed Siren will die.

Galactica Tsunami- Galactica Tsunami is an attack that causes Siren's hair to grow and become a sentient weapon. She uses it to capture her enemies and deflect attacks.

(It was also the title of an "attack" she used when throwing random beverages at her opponents in a fit of desperation. She seemed to be able to manipulate the liquid inside the beverage containers and it was only slightly weaker than strength of the inner sailor solider's four individual attacks.)

Music - It is also alluded to that she has the ability to manipulate music and song much like a siren, which she was named for. She never uses this ability in either the manga or anime however, but her character notes list her as a skilled singer and ballad writer.

Phone Booth - Siren uses a black english styled phone booth to transport herself from her base on Sagittarius Zero Star with Sailor Galaxia and the other Sailor Animates to Earth. All the Sailor Animates have this ability.

Disguise - Siren has the ability to disguise herself in many roles. Her main one is as a TV Producer for Galaxy TV but she has also masqueraded as a nurse, concert attendee, and others.

Social Networking - Siren never goes anywhere without her stack of business cards on hand, giving them to everyone she meets with a polite introduction. Including her enemies.

Sample Entry:

[Phone]

Good afternoon, Mayfield residents! This is Sailor Aluminum Siren speaking. I apologize for not presenting you with my business cards, but I seem to have misplaced them along with many other things since I woke up here… also I'm not quite sure how to fit them into the phone receiver. I don't see any sort of opening aside from these little holes where my mouth and ears go and they're much too small. Unless I rolled them up maybe, but then they would be bent and that wouldn't be very nice to look at. Business cards are all about the proper presentation. [A sad sigh is audible over the telephone line.]

Ah… I'm so upset! I thought for sure that this telephone would let me contact Galaxia-sama. It doesn't even have a booth attached to it that lets me go back to base, how am I supposed to give my report on my progress so far? Galaxia-sama will be so angry… not to mention Karasuma-san.

[Another terribly disappointed sigh.] It's too terrible to think about! Not until I have something for lunch. The kitchen seems very empty and doesn't have much that I can use for a proper meal. I'll have to go shopping later I suppose.

[Siren is much more cheerful at the prospect of eating.] In the meantime would anyone like to accompany me to the diner? Eating is always much more enjoyable with company, wouldn't you agree?

Personality: The trait that most defines Sweetie Belle is her childishness. Being a young pony, Sweetie Belle is not emotionally mature yet. This means that she is often naïve in social situations. Sweetie belle tends to trust people, unless given a specific reason not to. She also tends to believe that all problems have simple solutions and if you give it your best shot, you’ll come out ahead. Her childishness also means that she is hit very hard by her emotions. When she feels things she feels them a lot, when she is sad, she’s devastated, when she’s angry, she’s furious and when she’s happy, she’s ecstatic. For example when she has a fight with her sister, rather than just getting mad she disowns her and runs away from home. Her youth also means that she doesn’t think through her actions before performing them, which occasionally leads to trouble. For example once the Cutie Mark Crusaders ignored warnings and entered the dangerous Everfree forest to look for a missing animal resulting in an encounter with a monster.

Sweetie Belle is also very passionate about everything she does. Sweetie Belle’s youth makes her very energetic and she channels her energy into everything she does, especially her quest to earn her cutie mark. This passion means that Sweetie Belle does not give up easily, even in situations where she should, such as when she resorted to a love potion to hook her teacher up with another pony. Sweetie Belle will also stick to her guns when it would be better to abandon them. For example when the Cutie Mark Crusaders became gossip columnists Sweetie Belle urged them to keep going even after angering one of their friends, the result being that they angered the whole town.

Like most of the other residents of Ponyville, Sweetie Belle is very kind and cheerful. She cares deeply for her friends and family and will go to great lengths to help them. Despite the numerous setbacks she and the other crusaders have had, they remain very enthusiastic about every attempt they make to get their cutie marks. She looks up to her big sister and constantly tries to impress her, despite having none of Rarity’s sewing talents. While her impetuousness sometimes leads Sweetie Belle to hurt other ponies she always regrets it and will try her best to make it up to them. Most of all Sweetie Belle values her friends, the Cutie Mark Crusaders treat each other like sisters and stay together through everything that happens to them.

Character Name: Xavin. Who has no last name...
Character Series: Marvel's Runaways
Character Age: 17
Background: Learning to be human is hard.

Xavin is from the main continuity of Marvel, Earth-616. Well technically she's from Tarnax VII, a Skrull colony and the 7th in the system. But the point is, Xavin comes from Marvel's main continuity, meaning she lives in a world of mutants, magic, aliens, robots and all together super powered beings. However, most of the dramas that happen in Earth-616 happen in New York, and Xavin lives in Los Angeles and thus isn't fully aware of the conflicts unless they relate to aliens.

This doesn't mean LA doesn't face its own share of villains, though these are usually petty crimes and B-list villains. This is generally because up until recently before Xavin's first arrival on Earth, LA was controlled by a group known as the Pride, who made sure no one else played onto their turf. They were the main super villains of LA, and they ruled with iron fists.

They also happen to be the parents of the Runaways. Six couples, the Wilders, the Steins, the Yorkes, the Deans, the Minorus and the Hayes, gathered by biblical giants known as the Gibborim they had complete control and power over LA for 25 years in return for one small annual task. The Rite of Blood. Stealing the soul of an innocent (usually a female) and giving it to the Gibborim to aid in freeing them. And then after those 25 years six of them would go to an eternal paradise while the rest burned and fell with the rest of humanity. After the Steins accidentally fell pregnant it was then decided that each couple would have a child and forfeit their places to their children.

It was upon discovering their past that the Runaways became the Runaways, the children witnessing the Rite of Blood and being disgusted and horrified by their parents actions. Through a lot of hunting the Runaways discovered both who their parents were as well as who they were. Nico Minoru discovered her parents were witches, and that she had the capacity to be, after her body absorbed her mother's Staff of One, allowing her to cast spells once. The Steins were mad scientists, and Chase claimed some of their weapons as his own while the Yorkes were time travelers and had left their daughter Gert a genetically created dinosaur to protect her when they were gone. Molly Hayes was a mutant like her parents, possessing super strength, while the Wilders was normal, having previously been thieves. The kids took off and the Pride pursued using all the resources of LA to get their kids back, and in the end to kids attacked, causing the destruction of their parents and it the death of Alex who was revealed to still be on his parents side and had only shown the others what their parents were doing so that he could get rid of the Hayes and Deans who wanted to take the six places in paradise for themselves and their children.

But more importantly was Karolina's discovery. She and her parents were aliens, Majesdanians to be exactly, a race of beings that gained their powers from solar energy and took on a rainbow light appearance. The Deans had been exiled from their home planet for criminal activities and had moved to Earth, taking the last name Dean after the actor James Dean and becoming Hollywood actors. And then a few years later Xavin's father, Prince De'zean came to lead an attack on Earth. The Deans having grown attached to their adopted home gave him a much better target in return for leaving Earth alone. The location of the Majesdanian home planet, a location Skrulls had been wanting for years. And so De'zean left, but not without one final condition; His son and the Dean's daughter were to marry one day. The Deans assuming that De'zean and his son would die in the conflict between the Skrulls and Majesdanians agreed.

And then it was years later, after the Runaways had defeated the Pride and other small super villains, and picked up a new member Victor, the cyborg son of Ultron that Xavin came to Earth to find Karolina. The years of conflict had killed both her parents and whilst Xavin was now in charge she couldn't call an end on the Skrulls side as the Majesdanians would simply destroy them. The only way Xavin could see an end to the war was to join the two races, and the marriage between her and Karolina would do that. Whilst the other Runaways were reluctant to let Karolina go, Nico extremely so, Karolina herself was unsure, especially when Xavin promised she would not force Karolina into marriage but wanted to try and form a relationship, and in the meantime this would give Karolina a chance to see where she came from and learn more about herself. It was almost perfect, but one thing was holding Karolina back. She was a lesbian, and Xavin had presented herself as a male, which was assumingly the gender she was raised in and also the gender she would have thought more acceptable to a human female, Xavin having studied basic human customs. However Xavin reminds Karolina that she is a Skrull, a race of shape shifters and that to them changing gender is like changing hair colours and shifts into a female form. It's this final act that finalises Karolina's decision and she agrees to go with Xavin, leaving the Runaways and Earth behind.

Much of their time in space isn't shown together but their relationship is shown to develop to the point that Karolina accepts Xavin's proposal for marriage. But the marriage is never meant to be, as just at the start of the ceremony a Skullos guest insults the dresses of the Majesdanian bridesmaid which leads to an instant restart of the conflict. Xavin and Karolina run, and while they do manage to escape Xavin's outpost world launched anti matter missiles at Majesdane, forcing the star to go nova which caused the destruction of both planets. This means Xavin's home is gone, and with Karolina's help she tries to build a new life on Earth, whilst learning to be human, and adjust to being the woman Karolina deserves.

It isn't easy. From the very beginning Xavin is an outsider, even more than Victor was when he joined up. She doesn't understand humans, and this is made clear when she can't understand why the team and Karolina grieve so after Gert's murder. In her eyes, the fact that both her and Karolina's home planets and people have been destroyed is much more tragic than the death of one person. And she struggles to see Victor as anything but a robot, another point of conflict that she causes within the group. But she tries, by trying to impress Karolina in fights, and doing her best to assist in the occasional fighting of LA’s crime. It’s only when the group discovers that Chase is going to sacrifice himself to try and bring back Gert that Xavin begins to find her place. With Karolina needing to wait for the sun to come up to recharge her powers, Nico de-staffed by Chase and Victor stuck in a loop of 1’s and 0’s thanks to his coding, Xavin finds herself as one of the few with powers, and so she leads the charge after Chase, beginning the fight against the Gibborim. And while she’s knocked unconscious, it leads to acceptance from one of the group, with Molly deciding she’s definitely her sister now, even if she changes a lot. It’s the first step in a long road.

The Civil War highlights her warlike attitudes, with her instant thought of seeing Molly unconscious in the arms of the young avengers is to attack rather than stop and listen. Though she later shows her need for peace, as she scorns Teddy for not living up to the prophecy that Dorrekk VII will bring union to the Skrull worlds. In her eyes Teddy should do what is best for his people, and shouldn't cling to his Earth life. It's telling, it shows that even as she spends time on Earth she clings to her heritage and isn't willing to truly leave her past behind. But she's trying, and it's always clear why. For Karolina.

The trip to New York and the subsequent trip back in time is also important to Xavin, specifically with her relationship with Karolina. Prior to the time travel, Nico brings up Xavin's constant shape shifting and switching between the male and female gender with Karolina, and Karolina's own tense reaction in which she is adamant that Xavin is really a female learning to be human and not a male learning to be female shows that this may be something that has subconsciously concerned Karolina. When in reality the answer to Xavin's consistent changing is simply that it is her nature. It is her nature to change, and also her nature to adapt her form to the situation she faces. Her male form is taken to show more aggression and power, something Xavin doesn't realise is sexist in Karolina's eyes. She takes a male form when meeting with the Kingpin for this exact reason, and really it simply shows how much Xavin has picked up from Earth culture. To this day men are still seen as aggressive, as protectors, while women are more nurturing and careers. The trip back in time also highlights other issues between Xavin and Karolina, with Karolina wanting to delay their return to the present so she can learn more about the past whilst Xavin worries about the affects their being in the past will cause, i.e. the Butterfly Effect. Xavin doesn't understand Karolina's desire to know more of the past and thinks her foolish, growing irritated quickly. It’s clear Xavin is more interested in living in the now and considers the past gone.

At the same time, their trip back in time does help in repairing some of the damages in Karolina and Xavin's relationship. During an argument Xavin's form slips from the white male one she has taken and back into her African American female form. This makes Karolina pause in surprise, before calling Xavin on it, to which her reply is that it takes a measure of focus to hold a form, and without that focus she'll slip. Whilst Xavin doesn't understand the full importance of Karolina's excitement, who now believes she was in fact right, as Xavin became a woman again in her loss of focus, making that her true form in Karolina's eyes. Any concerns about Xavin's gender are rectified in Karolina's eyes, and the tension that has been between them for days eases away. Karolina now seems to understand that whilst Xavin changes forms to adapt to situations, such as taking a white male form over her African America male form in 1901, she does it only for that, and currently identifies her true form as her African American female one. With that solved they work together to return the group back to the Leapfrog and onwards to their own time, taking a new member, a young girl named Klara with them.

The return to present day New York is marred, when a group of fanatical religious Skrulls invade the city, looking to take over it and the rest of Earth as they believe it is a land promised to them by their god. Xavin must now choose between standing with her people or standing with what has become to be her new family. And while at first it appears she chooses the Skrulls, by knocking out the Runaways and then being observed talking to another pair of Skrull soldiers by a newly awoken Nico and Victor. Instantly they suspect her, and as soon as the Skrulls leave attack. It's then Xavin shows her true colours, confessing she knocked them out so they wouldn't be able to fight the Skrulls and get hurt, before urging Nico to take all the group besides her and runaway, saying that these Skrulls will not hesitate to kill them all, including both Molly and Klara. By eliminating them as a threat she gave them the time to run, and while she knows it'll make Karolina furious, she sends them away before heading back into the city to find Teddy, who she knows the Skrulls will be after to eliminate, as they can't risk him interfering and perhaps swaying a few to his side if he confesses his true heritage as Dorrekk VII, the supposed savior of the Skrull empire. Running however proves futile and the Runaways find themselves dragged back into the thick of it to be used against Xavin to try and force her into giving up Teddy and handing him over to his death.

While the Runaways and Young Avengers do eventually triumph, the battle is highly important to Xavin. She must not only fight against her people, but against her old teacher and mentor, to save her new family, and Karolina. She makes it clear in this fight that her loyalties lie with Karolina, the Runaways and Earth, and in a way, her loyalty to the Skrull race had begun to fade ever since her home world was destroyed, and her people once again proved they couldn’t manage peace. We learn more of what Xavin’s life was like before Karolina, and how it was very much just like a soldier, and that how her inability to use her Super Skrull abilities isn’t as much as a weakness as she’d always assumed it was. By being unable to combined her powers she has become stronger in using all of the separately, and it’s this way that she manages to stop her teacher, by creating a shield that manages to contain the explosion of him going nova. Had she had a natural talent for combining her abilities this strength and control individually would have never developed.

Xavin’s teacher defeated the Runaways do what they do best and runaway, leaving New York and the remains of the invasion to the Young Avengers and the rest of New York’s many heroes. Here they run into the old problem of where to hide out, Xavin having accidentally given away their hideaway in the rush to find and stop Chase from sacrificing himself. And while they find Chase’s parent’s old home in Malibu, and settle in slowly (With Xavin taking the role of a ‘dad’ to the group to ward off worried neighbours) peace doesn’t come easily. Almost as soon as they find themselves relaxing they’re under attack again, this time by a small team of surviving Majesdanians, looking for Karolina. They plan to take her back to an off-world military base, home to the remainders of the Majesdanian race and place her on trial for her father’s actions in revealing the Majesdanian home world. Naturally the Runaways don’t agree with the idea of punishing Karolina for her father’s mistakes, and thus begins the attempts to outrun and fight the aliens, which is only halted when civilians are almost harmed. Throughout this Karolina tries to halt the fighting, knowing the fighting won’t stop until the Majesdanians have her and that even if they succeed against this one group, more will eventually come. And slowly Xavin comes to realise this as well. And so, to keep Karolina and the Runaways safe, she gives the Majesdanians what they want. Karolina. Knocking Karolina out, Xavin takes her form and calls a truce, agreeing to go despite the protest this gets from the Runaways. But she doesn’t sway, and as Karolina, Xavin leaves, facing an uncertain future, from a race that wants to punish Karolina, and also loathes Skrulls and would likely try to kill her if they discover the ruse.

But that’s the way Xavin’s story has always been. Everything she’s done, everything she’s become has been to prove herself to Karolina as well as protect her. In the end it only makes sense for her to make her ending as ambiguous as she, and end it like it’s always been. For Karolina.
skrullbucks: (๑ You can't keep on like this)

Xavin | Marvel Comics | Not Reserved | 2/2

[personal profile] skrullbucks 2012-05-12 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: First and foremost Xavin is a skrull. This means an impatient and war like attitude is in her very nature, and as much as she tries to suppress these tendencies, they will still often get the better of her. She doesn’t often spare time for issues she deems trivial, and she’ll often be frustrated when people don’t automatically see eye to eye with her. This can be seen easily in the fight she and Karolina have over leaving the past quickly, and when Xavin finds out Teddy has rejected his destiny as Dorrekk VII, saviour of the Skrull race. She just doesn’t understand it, and this lack of understanding is a large part of what fuels her frustration, along with her temper. As for the impatience and war like attitude, Xavin is very much a shoot first, ask questions later person, as seen when she attacks the Young Avengers after seeing an unconscious Molly in Patriot’s arms. While the Runaways’s try and act a little more diplomatic, Xavin launches straight into a fight, which only exacerbates the tension between the two groups. At the same time she acknowledges this flaw of herself, and tries to work towards changing it, wanting to become a diplomat and not a soldier.

As implied, Xavin is a very protective person, who will go out of her way to protect the people she cares for, especially if that person is Karolina. Molly was essentially the next person who gained Xavin’s protection, aided by the fact that Molly was also the first person to be upfront with Xavin, and make an attempt to form a relationship. But it also seems like Klara would have also gotten this protectiveness, as Xavin groups her with Molly as a hatchingling, and thus Xavin would feel that they both need that protection due to their ages. But Karolina is definitely the one who cops it the most, with Xavin risking her very life to protect Karolina from the Majesdanians and the trial they wish to put her on. The likelihood of Karolina returning to Earth safe and sound is too uncertain for Xavin to risk it, and thus it’s clear in her mind that she will take Karolina’s place and face her battles for her.

She’s also very loyal. Loyal to Karolina, to the point of following her to a planet she doesn’t really know, to trying to fit in with her friends, to rejecting her very own people to save Earth and Karolina. She’s also loyal to Teddy, who she knows is supposed to save the Skrull race from destroying itself in its battle against the Kree. And so the idea of others not being loyal in return is foreign to her, often to the point that it actually insults her. But at the same time, she also finds her loyalties change through the series, to the point it becomes more important to her that she helps protect and save Karolina, the Runaways and Earth than to dutifully serve the Skrull Empire, and she finds herself rejecting orders to do so.

And she’s adaptable. She changes her physical gender without hesitation, to please Karolina. She tries her best to fit in with the Runaways, to fit in with Earth. It takes time, but Xavin learns more about Earth culture so that she properly adjusts and starts to become more human. It’s one of her greatest qualities, that she adjusts to change so readily and with apparent ease, but it’s a quality that should come naturally to a shape shifter. And yet sometimes she takes it too far. Shape shifting into Nico in an attempt to please Karolina, to make her more comfortable. Xavin changes, but she changes to fit in with others, to make them more comfortable with her, to the point she sometimes forgets who it is she really is.

Finally there’s Xavin’s gender. Appearing originally as a male, she shifts into a female when Karolina confesses she’s a lesbian. And while she says it’s just like changing her hair colour to a skrull it’s clear she struggles with it, never staying completely in a female form when the return to Earth. She claims it’s just her nature, but she then says she doesn’t know who she is, suggesting that she is struggling with her gender identity, amongst other things. But at the same time she seems to grow, taking on a male form to show aggression and power, or to adapt to a situation to make it favour her more so, like becoming a white male when being an African American and a woman would limit what society would be accepting of her doing. And it’s clear by the time they go back in time that she’s begun to identify as a woman, as she thinks of that as her natural form. And upon returning to Malibu, she has progressed to the point that she has a female Skrull form, implying she feels more comfortable as a woman. Still, she won’t raise a fuss if someone uses male pronouns, because she still does take a male form at times, and it isn’t as big a deal to her as it would be to a genderqueer or trans* human.

Overall Xavin is a mix of complication, and like any teenager, she’s still growing into herself and discovering who she is.

Abilities: As a Skrull Xavin has the innate ability to shape shift at will, able to change race, size and gender as well as other minuscule details about her appearance. However, maintaining a form requires concentration, and should she forget she can lapse back into what she is thinking of as her true form, as seen when she slips from the guise of a white male into her African American female form during an argument with Karolina.

This ability to shape shift also makes her harder to kill, at least by bullets, as demonstrated when Geoffrey Wilder shot her vol 2, chp: 17-18 and she simply moved her organs out of the way. She also appears to have an advanced form of healing, as she once had her neck snapped and recovered quickly despite apparently being killed by the action. She was however out for a reasonable amount of time as she healed.

As well as shapeshifting, Xavin was in training to become a Super Skrull, which means she has the powers associated with the Fantastic Four, ie: Invisibility and creating psionic forcefields like the Invisible Woman, super human strength and superhuman durability as well as taking on a rock like appearance like the Thing, pyrokinesis and flight like the Human Torch and plasticity and elongation like Mr Fantastic. However as she is in training, Xavin is still only able to manage to use one power at a time, which is both a pro and a con depending on the view. As a pro she is stronger with each power individually, but as a con most super Skrulls will use powers combined. It also possible to force her to lose control of her powers, if she is in Skrull form, by creating a high pitched noise, something her larger than a human's ears cannot handle and causes her pain. And then sometimes her powers just plain fail her, like her plasticity and elongation did in vol 2, chp: 25 where she over stretched.

Character Name: Nina Tucker (Chimera Form)
Character Series: Fullmetal Alchemist
Character Age: 4
Background: Here!
Personality:

Nina is the cheerful and loving daughter of Shou Tucker. Like most girls her age, she's mainly preoccupied with playing, running around outside, and spending time with her father who she adores more then anything. She's incredibly energetic, easily entertained, and latches onto anyone willing to play with her and give her attention. She's also a very curious girl, asking her father questions about his State Alchemist assessment and spying on the Elric brothers as they spend their time researching in her father's library. She's also somewhat brave, quickly overcoming her intimidation of Alphonse in his armor in favor of the two of them playing together. Because of the quiet life she and her father lead, strangers are often more exciting then they are intimidating.

Behind all of Nina's playful, cheerful personality, she shows signs of being lonely. Part of this comes from her missing her mother, although she denies it at first. She claims that her father and her pet dog is enough company, but then admits to being lonely as her father is more preoccupied with work. Because of this, she bonds with the Elric brothers, immediately adopting them as her own brothers. As they spend days reading the books in Tucker's library, she continually interacts with them looking for people to interact with and give her the attention that she desperately seeks.

Nina can be very trusting and naive. At her age, she has a very simple understanding of the world and how it works. She has complete faith in her father, as shown by her comforting him by saying that he'll pass his assessment because she "sees him studying all the time", showing the amount of faith that she has in her father. Nina's also a sheltered girl, implied by the relationship she has with her father and her pet dog. Whenever her father gets too busy to play with her, she gets lonely which shows that she doesn't really have friends or anyone to interact with other then her father and dog, which is why she latches on to the Elric brothers when they offer to play with her.

After her transformation into a chimera, she has trouble with basic speech and repeats herself - as though she's learning how to talk all over again in her new body. Even after the transformation, it still doesn't shake her love for her father - she pleads with Edward to stop hurting Tucker and cries for him after he's killed, even after Tucker confesses the reasons for transmuting his daughter with the family dog. And after Tucker's death, it's made clear that Nina doesn't understand the concept of death shown by the way she claims her father is "hurting" after Scar kills him. Her cheerful personality is destroyed by the transformation, as she rarely speaks and her head is always drooped.

[personal profile] hunterkiller 2012-06-01 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Background: (Taken from Wookieepedia) HK-47 was a Hunter-Killer assassin droid and Jedi hunter constructed by the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Revan shortly after the end of the Mandalorian Wars in 3,960 BBY.

In the wake of widespread destruction caused by the Mass Shadow Generator, a superweapon used during the final battle of that conflict, Revan was inspired to seek more subtle methods of defeating his enemies. HK-47 was sent throughout the galaxy on his missions and successfully assassinated countless targets whom Revan had deemed threats to galactic stability and peace.

HK-47 continued to serve Revan during the Jedi Civil War, a devastating conflict between the Sith Empire that Revan had created after his turn to the dark side, and the Galactic Republic. During this time, HK-47 helped Revan to locate the Star Forge superweapon and also assassinated beings who could potentially destabilize the galaxy, which eventually led to a mission into Mandalorian space in 3,957 BBY. While HK-47 was on this mission, Revan was captured by the Jedi after Malak turned on his master and fired a volley of turbolaser fire at the bridge of Revan's flagship.

The Jedi High Council ordered Revan's mind to be re-written, and the Sith Lord lost all the memories of his former self, including those of HK-47's existence. Meanwhile, although HK-47 succeeded in his assassination mission, his motor functions were damaged, and he ended up in the possession of a Mandalorian soldier. The Mandalorian reprogrammed and laid claim to the crippled droid, repairing him—though not particularly well in the droid's opinion—and began to use the droid to elevate his own rank by having him eliminate his superiors and clear the way for his own promotion.

HK-47 had lost much of his memory due to the damage he had received and lacked the knowledge as to where he had been created, though he believed himself to be of Systech Corporation's manufacture. Conversely, rumors circulated that his true creator was Czerka Corporation. All that remained was his affinity toward violence, although he could not recall why he had been equipped for such a purpose.

Eventually, the Mandalorian ordered HK-47 to assassinate the reigning Mandalore. HK-47 failed and was captured by his target, who reprogrammed his objectives to send the droid against his master. The Mandalorian soldier was subsequently terminated. Since HK-47 was programmed to shut down whenever his current master died, he deactivated himself after killing the Mandalorian and was sold to Bochaba the Hutt, a crime lord based on the planet Sleheyron.
HK-47 helped Bochaba to maintain his reputation as the most feared gangster on Sleheyron, terminating 322 targets in a single year before Bochaba was assassinated by his rivals. The droid shut himself down once again after learning of his master's death and was sold to a Human senator on the galactic capital of Coruscant. The Senator first assumed HK-47 to be a mere protocol droid, but one of his assistants later discovered the droid's assassination functions and asked the Senator to destroy him. The Senator instead ordered HK-47 to kill the assistant, and the droid remained with his master, helping him eliminate his political enemies. With his rivals quickly being eliminated, the Senator was on his way to being elected as the Supreme Chancellor, but things did not go as they had been planned.

The next target the Senator ordered HK-47 to kill was his own wife, who, as he had discovered, had been cheating on him. As HK-47 approached the wife and her illicit lover to terminate them both, his master suddenly regretted his order and dove between the droid and his intended victims. Having accidentally terminated his master, HK-47 had no choice but to shut down once more. The Senator's wife later sold him to a low-ranking commercial officer of Systech Corporation. At first, the officer used HK-47 as a protocol and bodyguard droid, but following his discovery of the droid's assassination protocols, the officer sent HK-47 on a mission to eliminate workers of a company that was developing a product which, if launched onto the market, would ruin the officer's career. The officer did not realize that the company was, in fact, another branch of Systech Corporation. By the time he realized his mistake, HK-47 had already terminated 104 Systech employees. HK-47 assumed that, being the only officer remaining, his master would be promoted. Instead, the officer, in dismay, attacked the droid. While doing so, the officer pierced one of HK-47's actuators with a writing utensil, resulting in an electric shock that killed him and damaged the droid's assassination protocols, again forcing the droid to deactivate himself for killing his master.

After the accident with the Systech Corporation officer, HK-47 was sold to Yuka Laka—an Ithorian droid dealer at the Anchorhead settlement on the planet Tatooine—who fitted him with a restraining bolt, further restricting the droid's memory and his protocol and assassination protocols. There, HK-47 encountered his original master, Revan, whose mind had been erased by the Dantooine Jedi Enclave Council after being injured at the hands of Darth Malak. Revan was once again trying to find the Star Forge and was looking for the Star Map, an ancient artifact located on Tatooine. This time, Revan was acting on behalf of the Jedi Council in order to locate and destroy the superweapon and save the Republic from defeat. Revan purchased the droid for his knowledge of the Sand People dialect, as he intended to negotiate with the local chieftain about ceasing attacks against Czerka Corporation personnel and could not understand the dialect himself. HK-47 eagerly accompanied Revan, as he disliked Yuka Laka, and acted as a translator when Revan met with the chieftain of the local tribe.

In keeping with his violent programming, HK-47 advocated for simply eliminating the local tribe, but Revan opted for a peaceful method and managed to gain entrance to the Sand People Enclave by using disguises taken from fallen Tusken Raiders. Revan was able to successfully reach an accord with the chieftain by trading two moisture vaporators he had bought from the Czerka outpost so that the tribe could journey farther away from the settlement and cease their constant raids. As a sign of appreciation, the chieftain gave Revan his personal gaffi stick as well as a map of the area of Tatooine where the Star Map was located. At that, HK-47 expressed his disappointment at the loss of a chance for combat against the Sand People. HK-47 was present when Revan was allowed to meet with the Sand People storyteller in return for presenting the chieftain with a krayt dragon pearl. HK-47 translated for this meeting as well, cautioning Revan against making any potentially offensive statements.

When Revan later asked HK-47 about the droid's past, he was quite taken aback to discover that the droid had, indirectly or otherwise, been the cause of death of all of his interim owners. This did not stop Revan from making multiple repairs to the droid, despite some trepidation on HK-47's part. Revan eventually restored everything but HK-47's memory core, which was too fragile to attempt to repair manually. Revan later encountered Malak for the first time since his former Sith apprentice had betrayed him.

This meeting proved to be the stimulus necessary for Revan to remember the truth about his own history. It was also the signal for HK-47's internal programming to unlock and undo the damage to his primary memory core, allowing the droid full access to his entire memory as well as his entire combat and assassination protocol package. HK-47 appeared more than satisfied to be reunited with his master, but later commented that Revan had changed since he had last served him, stating that Revan was more compassionate than before. Despite this, the droid still believed that Revan was just as capable of merciless and necessary actions when required. The droid also expressed his alleged frustration and rage at being absent during Malak's betrayal and his inability to defend Revan from Malak's treachery.

HK-47 remained with Revan until the end of the former Dark Lord's journey, following him to the Star Forge and aiding in the destruction of the superweapon as well as the defeat of Darth Malak. HK-47 was honored with Revan's other companions as a hero of the Republic and was awarded the Cross of Glory beside them. Shortly thereafter, more of Revan's memories returned, and the Jedi recalled a threat to the galaxy that he had uncovered as a Sith Lord. HK-47 was left behind with Revan's wife, Bastila Shan when he departed for the Unknown Regions. Revan also had HK-47's memory of the past four years erased so that the droid would not discover his destination. For a short time, Shan left HK-47 with the Jedi Council on Coruscant, hoping his murderous instincts might be calmed.

However, HK-47 was unwilling to stay and wait for his master to return, and when Bastila refused to tell the droid where Revan had gone, HK-47 left to find him. During the droid's attempt to locate Revan, HK-47 was once again heavily damaged and almost entirely dismembered. HK-47's remains were later discovered by one of Revan's other droids, T3-M4, who recovered HK-47 and stored the remains onboard the Ebon Hawk.

Character Age: unknown, but she looks like she's over 18.
Background: Wiki link

[personal profile] ex_hermits562 2012-06-01 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Kasen is quite mysterious, even if you talk to her for awhile you'll never really know what her goal is. Her intentions are never “bad”, most of the time she offers advice or tries to correct something. Seeing as she has a vast amount of knowledge on youkai and other subjects. Plus most of the time she's right about something, so it's not very wise to go against the advice she has given.

Part of her mysterious nature is due to the fact she's a hermit. She lives alone in a dojo style house with the animals she has befriended. She isn't lonely or anything of that sort, it was a lifestyle choice she decided on many years ago, and as a hermit she tries to help both humans and youkai alike. Kasen holds no bias, if you're a human she'll help you out, if you're a youkai she'll help you out. Though she questions what youkai are after a little more, but only because some youkai are trying to harm people actively. It's mainly because she feels like everything can be balanced or at least keep things to the point of everyone knowing that doing certain things is a bad idea. Which is one of the reasons why she helps out so much. Along with messing in manners that don't deal directly with her, or are handled by another party.

Though a certain shrine maiden thinks she's a nagging, preaching busybody there's a reason for the act. Besides being the only way to get through to certain people, she's right most of the time when it comes to manners that deal with youkai. Which leads to having to fix problems that come up due to people being greedy or sometimes out of their minds which allow youkai to come in and stir up trouble. In the end people tend to be thankful for her actions and learn from it.

Due to her power to understand and talk to any sort of animal she can get along with pretty much anything in the wild. Kasen also cares for any type of animal, ranging from monkeys to beasts with magical powers. She'll feed wild animals if they come up to her, or offer them a place to sleep. Along with patching them up if they're hurt. Not really asking for anything in return, though most of the time the animals she helps stick around and will come to her aid when she calls on them.

Abilities:
Kasen has the power to control animals, as well as speak with them. Currently she has a pet snake, monkey, dragon, Dapeng, along with a Raijuu. Her arm that is covered up can turn in to a form that looks black ash or smoke and can take on the spirits of the dead and destroy them. Her reflexives are better then a normal human's as well.

Sample Entry:
[ John doe park – afternoon ]

[ Kasen was sitting on a park bench looking up at a nearby tree. There was a family of birds on one of the very top branches, one of the baby birds was having a hard time staying inside the nest given how crowded it was. ]

You can come down here, I'll help you out and find you a nice open branch to sit on.

[ Kasen's voice was very soft and gentle almost as if she was talking to a young child, and after she had said that the bird tried to fly down on to her outstretched arm. ]

[ Phone – evening ]

It seems like I've been plucked from my normal far away from society life style. I haven't even told anyone about Saouchi and Kume and no one is going to be there to feed them. [ there's a small sigh ]

Reimu, Marisa if one of you happens to be here I would like to have a little chat.

Character Name: Tavros Nitram
Character Series: Homestuck
Character Age: 6 sweeps, or 13 human years
Background: http://mspaintadventures.wikia.com/wiki/Tavros_Nitram and http://mspaintadventures.wikia.com/wiki/Homestuck
Personality: The first thing you would probably notice about Tavros' personality is that he a extremely shy; you could almost say cripplingly so, ignoring the obvious jab at his paralysis. His people skills are nonexistent, and he is very awkward and rather quiet when around people, friends included, though he is a lot more confident around Gamzee, not quite faltering so much in his conversations with him as much as he does other people. In person and in real life, he speaks in a shy and faltering manner, with lots of 'Uh's' and 'Um's' coating his speech; he generally comes off as very unsure and nervous a lot of the time, and this is because he has confidence issues. Lots, and lots of confidence issues.

He isn't confident in anything he does, always second guessing himself, avoiding conflict when and where possible at all times. He has very low self-esteem and definitely tends to feel inferior to the other trolls. In a way, he even looks up to some of the ones that are mean to him, even Vriska, as he wishes he could be more like them. He is very much a pushover when it comes to actual conflict, too, easily agreeing with jabs against him because he knows that they're true. When it comes to things that are actually true, that is. Because despite all of this, he has shown that he can stand up to people when it's taken too far. For example, he absolutely refused to apologize to Vriska when she told him to apologize for being a cripple- which was caused by her in the first place, to boot.

This shows that Tavros does have something of a bullshit-ometer, meaning that sometimes he actually does stand up for himself, however rare. It just takes a lot of antagonism and ridiculousness for it to really show. But even the way Tavros stands up for himself is nothing special, and he wasn't actually able to make Vriska stop antagonizing him for long- or at all, really, as it inevitably lead to more antagonism because of the fact that he is just so horrendously bad at actually standing up for himself even when he does try.

To compensate for these issues, at the suggestion of one Kanaya Maryam, Tavros made up an imaginary friend called Rufio, who is supposed to be Tavros’s confidence and self esteem personified. He based it on a character from his favorite fairytale, Pupa Pan (the Troll equivelant of Peter Pan). This actually didn't end up helping at all, because as it turned out, simply giving a name to your self esteem and pretending it's a character out of a fairytale doesn't actually magically give you self esteem. If anything, this was just a coping mechanism to make himself feel better about not having any in the first place. And it really just shows how childish Tavros is at heart, that he would do this in the first place and hope it worked; though he can fully admit that it doesn't.

Underneath his insecurity and lack of confidence, Tavros is a very sweet and caring person. It is pretty much nearly impossible to make him mad or offend him, as he's both too nice as well as a bit too timid to reach that point. Even despite his confidence issues, making friends is one of Tavros's favorite things, and he always has a pretty enthusiastic greeting when initiating conversations, and he's usually nice to everyone he talks to. He even tries to be nice to the ones he doesn't actually like. Which ends up getting him walked on more. Most of the trolls tend to find him weak, and even though he tries getting along with most of them, there are only a few he can actually say are his friends (even though he would claim they are all his friends). His best friend is without a doubt, Gamzee Makara, though he and Aradia were definitely very close before she died, though the two of them drifted apart after this.

Saying that Tavros is never awkward around his close friends though, would not be accurate. As comfortable as he feels about being around his best bro, it's also clear that a part of him finds Gamzee just a bit weird. But then again, it's safe to say that a lot of people find Gamzee weird. But Tavros sticks by him anyway, and tends to ignore some of Gamzee's quirkiness. However, even Tavros is put off when Gamzee makes inappropriate suggestions such as sloppy makeouts- but that's mainly because Tavros is just so bad at the whole romance thing, as stated below when it comes to his failure at confessing his feelings to Jade.

His relationship with Vriska is complicated and he actually tries his best to avoid her completely most of the time, a thing she makes hard to do. But even despite how much he dislikes her, he's usually as nice as he can be to her, though it's obviously strained. A lot of his interactions with the trolls who aren't exactly nice to him are like this as well, though it's most notable with Vriska. Though as nice as he tends to be, he is not above being vaguely passive aggressive in his interactions with some of them, either, though it's not very noticeable, and he's not very good at the whole passive aggressive thing in general.

Tavros is also probably the worst out of all his fellow trolls at trolling the humans, as he's just too nice to do it properly, and inevitably ends up befriending whoever he is trolling, or otherwise getting countertrolled hardcore. Despite the fact the intention was to lead the humans astray, Tavros ended up befriended Jade despite the fact that he was also responsible for killing her Grandpa. It's complicated. But he totally had the best intentions, as he mistook her grandpa for a dangerous intruder. Overall, his good nature just makes it really hard for him to do any successful trolling.

He has a more naive view of the world than those around him his own age. He has a childlike belief that fairies are real, despite never having actually seen one (he doesn't need to see one, because that's what faith is for). This is especially prevalent in his FLARP sessions (A form of extreme roleplay, during which he was also injured and confined to his wheelchair, by Vriska), where his dresses up and plays Pupa Pan, the troll equivelant of Peter Pan. Another reason he is so enamoured with Pupa Pan is that he has always been fascinated by the idea of flying- and not just because he’s in a wheelchair. Because as he said, that would be silly. He believes so much in Pupa Pan and is just so childishly hopeful, that he leaves his window at night in the hopes that Pupa Pan will show up and take him away.

Tavros also has a way with the creatures of Alternia, being able to communicate telepathically and control them. With this, he's able to get them to do whatever he wants. This leads to one of his other hobbies, which is capturing and training them, and he considers all of them his friends. They are his main source of real life interaction, after all. And because he prefers to avoid all conflict if he can help it, and also because of his own mediocre fighting skills, while in the game Tavros ended up using his powers to control the Imps and built his own little army of sorts, rather than fight them. Going back to his FLARP as an example, Tavros is much more of an adventurer than a fighter. Even in FLARP, he picked more of a non-combat class, as he liked exploring and storytelling much more than the fighting. He is just essentially a player, wanting to have fun adventures and not worry about the bad things, even though this is not actually possible. Before his dream self was killed, he also spent a lot of time sleeping, so that he could play and fly around with on prospit, the one place he actually could fly like Pupa Pan.

He is also very into Alternian slam poetry! And this is about the only area where he has any real confidence in himself, as well as showing a more smug side of his personality than is usually witness daily. He does perhaps have too much confidence in his rapping, because he is admittedly not very good at it at all. It's also about the only time he'll say anything at all meanspirited, as his goal was definitely to upset Dave with his raps, though obviously it didn't work at all, because Dave is just too cool to be affected by Tavros's shitty raps. Tavros did not realize this though, and ended up leaving the chat feeling pretty good about all the SICK FIRES he'd created.

Upon receiving his Robo Legs, Tavros’ confidence levels soared to previously unreached levels- and not entirely in positive ways, as he had a rather comically skewed idea of what having confidence entailed. He was under the impression that he could do what he wanted, going as far as to suggest that he wouldn't listen to Jade when he wanted to commune with Bec, her dog. Overall he acted kind of like a cocky, arrogant jerk, under the impression that that's what people with confidence did. It's safe to assume that the reason for this is because the only comparison he had was people like Vriska, who act like assholes daily.

Receiving robo legs also did two other things for him, one of which was give him the courage to confess his crush on Jade... which ended up proving that Tavros is so very, very bad at romance. His social awkwardness mixed with his horrible sense of confidence of course meant that none of it went over well at all. In fact, he kind of assumed the fact he had so much confidence would automatically mean Jade would reciprocate his feelings. He ended up referencing his new confidence multiple times, prompting Jade to tell him that just because he said he had confidence didn't mean he really did.

It also gave Tavros the courage to stand up to Vriska after all of her antagonism and after finding out that she was the source of pretty much everyone's problems. With his lance, he confronted and attacked her, while also finally calling her out on some of the things she'd done. Of course, his combat skills were inevitably no match for her superior god tier powers and in the end he was impaled through the chest by his own lance.

So all it really takes for Tavros to gain confidence is legs! Even if it's a weird, screwy version of confidence. And in the end, he really did realize that he had it wrong, and he was still the nice, friendly troll that he always was, before he died. He just really wanted to have confidence so badly that he convinced himself that he did, and because he never had a very good example to follow, it just didn't work out like he wanted it to, and even ultimately lead to his death. But in the end, he stood up to Vriska for his friends and for himself.

After he died, he very much enjoyed the dream bubbles and being able to hang out with Dave and Aradia, create some sick fires as well as just take it easy and not worry about things anymore. In a way, he was a lot happier in death than he ever was in life, a fact he outright stated when he showed up in a dream bubble later, as well as admitting to the fact that his confidence was silly and fake. There was nothing to worry about in a dreambubble; he could have adventures and chill with his other dead friends, so really what more could he actually need?

Abilities: -Communing with animals telepathically. This is just about Tavros's only power, really. A lot of trolls have psychic powers, and Tavros is no exception. His allow him to enter the minds of animals and control their actions. This ability is actually quite powerful, as he was capable of communing with a wide range of creatures in the game as well as Jade's dog, Bec, who was extremely powerful. Mainly, he uses this power passively and to befriend things, but he's capable of making them do just about anything.
- Page of Breath. Nooot a whole lot is known about Tavros's game title. Presumably if he had ever reached God Tier, he would have wind powers comparable to John's. The Page class, however, was described as having lots of potential. Which implies that Tavros had the ability to be very powerful, if he'd ever managed to reach all this untapped potential. But as I said, not much is known about this. He just has potential!

Background:
Cross's world on the surface is very average in the sense that everyday life consists of getting up and going to work or school. But beneath the surface lies more wonder and magic than one would expect. His family was a part of the magical world. In his world people are born to magical bloodlines. In some cases someone born may only have the current potential to use weapons imbued with magical force, while others are capable going passed that and invoking the phenomenon themselves. Magic however works like a muscle in his world. If someone is born with the ability to wield magical weapons, with enough training they in time can become capable of using magic themselves. But overtime magical families began to dwindle because there weren’t enough of them to keep the bloodlines going; they had to turn to non-magical beings to continue their line. They found however when they did this the magical line would grow progressively weaker in their children to the point some families couldn’t produce any magical children at all.

They began studying into this to see if there was a way to combat the dying out of magic. In time they managed to find the answer. If a non-magical person was married to one who could use magic, the non-magical person would need to be absorb copious amounts of the mystical force and be infused a small amount of blood from the magical being they would marry; this would not however give the non-magical person the capability to use magic as it’s only given to them so it can pass on into the child. By doing this magical children were more likely to be born into the family but on occasion a child with no magical capabilities would be born.
In Cross’s world the magical part of it hides from the rest of the world. Their reasoning being that non-magical people in the past have been known to use any sort of power stronger than them and cause devastating harm with it. So instead of trying to help them the magical world stays hidden and keeps to itself. They also don’t take much concern with normal people affairs unless it directly affects them.

Cross was born into one of these magical families along with his twin brother, Chris. However Cross was a rare case in which he was born with zero magical ability because his older brother had received all of the magic put into their non-magical mother. Because of this Cross was horribly neglected by his father who would be training Chris most of the time (though Chris would probably say that was a good thing.) Their mother on the other hand seemed to have up and vanished around the time they were three so all they were left with to take care of them was their father and some of the house staff. Since Cross had no magic he was left to go to normal school where Chris would be home schooled.

Since Cross had interactions with both worlds he got a sense of what both were like. The normal world to him seemed pretty average and somewhat boring. He however noticed that there was a lot of problems in the normal world that magic could help fix (like disease, crime, war, ect). Cross brought this up to his father and saying that the magical world should do more to help people. His father rebuffed him however telling him to stop be concerned with the non-magical people.

With the magical world Cross was enamored by the thoughts of using magic and all of the interesting and neat things it could do. He however started to feel angry towards it when he found out that the magical world didn’t care about the entirety of the world’s problems. In doing so Cross wanted to make it so that both the magical world and the normal world co-exist out in the open so that both worlds could help each other with their problems. But because of how both worlds worked those without power were often not taken seriously or ever seen. So Cross wanted to become a hero in his world so that he could be acknowledged by everyone so he could help everyone. If he could get both worlds to cooperate and exist to one another he believed he could make a world filled with happiness.
But because Cross had no magic so he needed another way to become a hero. So Cross turned to the realm of comic book super heroes and took major influence on his fighting style from heroes who used gadgets, science, and all their physical capabilities. Cross began to train having his older brother teach him how to use a sword. In exchange Cross taught his older brother martial arts and acrobatics (which Cross had started to learn on his own for his own hero training.) However he knew just using a sword, acrobatics and martial arts wouldn’t be enough. Cross started learning how to make a variety of tools and gadgets and how to use them to help him fight.

When Cross had finally gotten all the things he needed to start being a hero Cross began his crime fighting spree. Chris however wasn’t going to let him go out on his own and decided to come with him. They were going to try and catch a bunch of bank robbers but their first mission did not go over well. It had led to a chase to a construction site where Cross had damaged his right arm so badly in a freak explosion. In short, it needed to be amputated. It was soon after replaced with a mechanical arm. This did not deter him however as he just adjusted his arm for the use of crime fighting. So from then on he continued to do whatever it took to be seen as a hero by both worlds.

Personality:

Cross is extremely hyperactive and leaps into action every time he gets. Cross is not so bright when it comes to love and crushes as they will often go over his head (this could also be said with innuendos and sexual jokes.) It takes a lot for him to notice someone has feelings for him. Cross is however is perceptive of how people are feeling (whether sad or happy) it's just love that evades him. Because of his empathetic nature Cross is very compassionate to those weaker than him or hurting. He will drop everything he’s doing just to comfort someone in need even if he does not know them.

Cross can be serious (if only when it comes to fighting.) He's very protective of his friends and his older brother (even though his older brother doesn't allow that), but he does have a tendency to break things on accident out of his own clueless nature of things. Cross is an idealist, believing if someone is given the chance and forgiveness they could be a good person. So he'll fight an enemy but only to try and knock some sense into them throughout the battle. His idealism though goes a bit far as he wishes to make a world where there is no fighting and everyone can get along happily.

Due to his idealism Cross is also a want to be hero or as he calls it “a hero in training.” He took major influence from many superhero comics and movies as well as heroes from literature. He strives to be the heroic figure in a story in real life. Cross is very brave as he’s willing to take on the dangers of crime fighting and potentially deadly scenarios if it leads to protecting others.

Cross is known to show some depressive streaks. Being one in a handful without any magical gifts or super powers he often feels rather weak and frail compared to his brother and to those who have such capabilities. He finds himself constantly wishing to be special in some other way than a mutilated arm. This stems from his wish to be more like his brother and become more effective with combat. With the ideas of magic and powers however Cross has a firm belief that they should only be used to help people. This can lead to one of his more nasty qualities as he will often get very upset or angry with a person if he were to find out that they didn’t use said power to help others. This is directly influenced by his how his own world runs as magic is kept within families with a magical lineage. It can lead him to judge a person very harshly before knowing all the facts of why they wouldn’t use their power to help people.

Cross is also extremely envious of those with powers. As said above he would often scold people or become very harsh if they didn’t use it to help people. His reasoning behind it all is because he often feels powerless to affect circumstances and if someone who has the power to do so they should do it. Even though he’s trained to in many areas to compensate for the lack of magic or powers he finds himself severely lacking compared to those who could just magic everything away. But this also motivates him. He wants to prove that even if someone who has no innate magical ability or power of some sort can help the world.

Cross is a lot more cunning and intelligent than one may think when they first meet him. Sure he is naive and childish but he is very resourceful when it comes to fighting. He uses whatever, wherever, whenever in the battle field. So what he lacks in magical/super powers he makes up in his use of the environment he's given. However if he's in a place with nothing he can use (ex a big empty stadium with benches and no cover or in a place with a bunch of roots) he can do little to manipulate a situation in his favor. In short Cross prefers more stealth oriented combat to overcome his lack of powers. His intelligence also does stem outside of battle. He is capable of creating highly advanced devices that he uses to fight with. With his gadget finesse he as capable to rig his mechanical arm with a grappling hook and claws that he could use if ever it was necessary.

Cross is also very stubborn when it comes to his beliefs. When someone points out the flaws in them (as realistically one person can't change everything on his own) he will become very defensive. When this happens he accuses those merely trying to help of being extremely pessimistic or too lazy to try and figure out a different way to approach a problem other than a hopeless realistic scenario. The reason he is so stubborn is because his beliefs are the only things he feels like he has control over. So when someone comes in trying to make him change them (in his opinion) is the loss of that power.

Because of Cross’s want to be special in some way he takes pride in having a prosthetic arm. Even if some would consider it a handicap Cross considers it one of his defining traits that make him special in some way (though he’d prefer magic more.)

Abilities: Cross has no magical capability or superpower of any form. However because of this he trains himself through several forms of martial arts, acrobatics and the use of a sword. For his age group he is above average in strength, speed and agility.
Because he’s smart enough to create gadgetry he makes a collection of tools and weapons that he can use to fight (think of Batman’s utility belt.) These can often be bombs, tasers, EMPs, smoke bombs, throwing knives, flash grenades, pepper spray, a mini blow torch, lock picks and a visor that helps him take in statistics around him.
Cross is even smart enough to outfit his mechanical arm with a bunch of tools as well. If he turns a cuff on it 90 degrees he can launch a small grappling hook stored inside the arm. If turned 180 degrees fingertip blades will extend out, he can’t use both at once though. It wears down though if it is not up kept.

Cross also has specially made armor for himself. It’s light enough to allow him to move swiftly but strong enough that it can withstand bullets. It is capable of wearing down and falling apart though if maintenance isn’t kept on it.
Cross is capable and cunning in many situations. If you were to put him in a kitchen in a minute he could create a makeshift bomb as he uses his environment to his advantage. He makes use of anything on hand as a weapon.

Yukko Aioi | Nichijou | Reserved | 2/4

[personal profile] selematpagi 2012-06-01 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: The thing that sticks out the most about Yukko Aioi is that she is very... energetic, eccentric. She does things that definitely make her stand out. It's a bit hard to describe. For example, Yukko regularly greets her friends with "Selamat Pagi", which is Indonesian for "Good Morning." She doesn't just uses this phrase because she likes the way it sounds though. It becomes increasingly obvious that Yukko is speaking Indonesian only to get a reaction. This is because she becomes confused and saddened when one morning her friend Mio does not even flinch to her greeting. This causes her to begin to overthink why Mio would simply ignore her greeting. The thought itself lodges inside her head, and for the rest of her trip to school she can't stop thinking about it. However, when her other friend Mai greets her back in Indonesian, she becomes so elated to the point of tears.

And while this sounds like an odd example... Yeah, Yukko's kind of like that.

The first thing you will notice about Yukko is very open about her emotions. In fact, at times she goes out of her way to exaggerate. When she’s happy, she’s beaming. If she’s bragging, her face gets so smug you just want to bonk her over the head. If she’s mad she will grit her teeth and glare with fire in her eyes. If she’s sad, well, she just mopes about. Normally she bounces back to her perky personality pretty quickly, but sometimes it’s much harder than waiting it out. This is also why, when Yukko gets really depressed, it is this sudden, gigantic, exaggerated halestorm of angst that consists soley of body twitching, incoherent mumblings and so many tears that you’d swear she’ll end up waterlogged. Of course, regardless of whether it’s mild disappointment or violent pity party, it’s always easy to get Yukko back to being Yukko. Just butter her up with lots of compliments and motivation (and take a few slaps on the back, from her) and she’ll be as good as new. Yukko is a sucker for compliments.

But why is Yukko like this? How does she bounce back so quickly? Her friends are awfully smart, and they rarely seem to flinch at her behavior. Why do they put up with it?

Becauuussseee Yukko is kind of stupid and doesn’t know any better? An idiot? A baka? Brainless? Clueless? Delusional?

That’s all exaggeration actually. Yukko isn’t dumb per se(b-but that might depend on your definition of dumb she certainly isn’t bright), she’s just very simple-minded, and easily distracted. She can certainly do pretty well if she tries, but normally trying proves to be a lot harder for her. Things that would normally prove easy for most, such as sitting down to do studying or ordering a latte, holds extra challenge for Yukko. If you explain something to her, make sure to explain it in a clear, understandable way, because if you’re vague about it she will get utterly confused and misinterpret. The biggest problem for her is… that she is impulsive! She doesn’t try to assess the situation correctly when she really needs to – but, oh, she can definitely overthink things… stupid things that she shouldn’t be worried about. Call it naïve or childish if you want, but Yukko just does things. She is all shoot first, regret things later. She doesn’t give time to realize that her ideas are incredibly stupid because she’s practically convinced herself that these ideas are perfect and will put them into practice before anything else. So when things don’t work out the way she imagines (I.E. ALMOST ALWAYS), it’s perfectly understandable why she screams and hoops and hollers. Because her little mind is blown so hard that it feels like her little world has just been shot to high hell. The definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again expecting a different result. If that’s true, then Yukko must be a little cracked.

Yukko is a big dreamer too, if her grandeous daydreams and hasty spouts of poetry are any indication, and she seems to prefer going with whatever reasons her imagination comes up with rather than any form of logic.... which is probably why, out of everyone in her clas, she is the only one who truly believes that Nano is a robot. This is also why she overreacts whenever something even slightly disconcerting happens, especially when they fly out of left field. The principal has a habit of telling awfully lame jokes during his speeches, and Yukko can’t help but wonder if he knows just how terrible they are (and making a really, really big deal about it in the process). A bird lands on the edge of a window and starts talking, cue wacky reaction (though to be honest can you blame her for freaking out? I mean... talking bird...) Things like that.

[personal profile] theboywiththebook 2012-06-01 04:19 am (UTC)(link)

Personality: Jim is a thrill seeker. He wants to feel alive and will do many perilous and dangerous things to get that thrill from his life. But because of his thrill seeking he ends up breaking a lot of rules and trespassing where he shouldn’t. This leads to him getting caught by the robo cops a lot in which he is not fond of. Jim has little respect for authority as he sees the robo cops as them just being on his case and only grudgingly calling the captain of the R.L.S ma’am. Jim doesn’t like taking orders much either. When told he as to work as the cabin boy in the kitchen with Silver he expressed outrage and annoyance. He will however reluctantly do what is told of him, but will often complain silently to himself.

When Jim is upset he doesn’t talk about his problems, evident when his mother tries to talk to him only to shrug her off. He only ever begins to open up when Silver takes an interest in him and fills the role of a father figure missing in his life. Jim admits to feeling like a screw up as he only ever lets people down, evident when he is constantly getting into trouble with the police and when he believes he got Mr.Arrow killed. Jim has a dry sense of humor which usually ends up putting him into tough situations. He and Scroop got into an argument which could have led him to being grievously injured or dead if not for the intervention of Sliver.

His brooding and aloof nature all stems from his abandonment issues. When he was young his father never took much of an interest in him and in time had left him and his mother because his father couldn’t handle being a husband and a parent. Because of his father leaving him so young and not paying attention to him Jim didn’t learn many lessons a boy would learn from a father. He doesn’t know when to pick his fights as evident when he challenges Scroop (a giant spider/scorpion type alien) and nearly gets himself killed over the argument.

It has also left him very guarded when he talks to people. When in confronted with a conversation that he’d rather not be in Jim just shrugs it off replying ‘whatever’ to the other. It also leaves him not very trusting of others, possibly because he doesn’t want to get hurt again like with what happened with his father. Jim is usually perceptive of others or at least those with bad intentions as he could tell that Scroop was no good the moment he laid eyes on him.
Jim also very much dislikes being judged by others. When the police had commented how he was a “low life loser” Jim looked at them in disgust and went to retort (if not for the intervention of his mother.)
Because of this Jim wishes to change his life and make people see him differently, telling Silver he had plans to change his own life.

Jim is very clever in the form of mechanics. He built his first solar sailor when he was young. He is capable of repairing a very old solar ship that could have been hundreds of years old. He is also very resourceful, when he and the crew needed to escape Treasure Planet before it exploded the ship had taken damage that would not allow escape. In his quick thinking he made a functioning, make shift solar board.

To children Jim has a much softer side. When a young child in one of the deleted scenes is admiring Jim’s solar surfer, Jim indulges the boy in his awe. He is usual willing to help kids with problems that are evident to him (like a broken scooter.)

Character Name: Nanoha Takamachi
Character Series: Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
Character Age: 25
Background: History on the MSLN wiki. Timeline will be the Force manga, end of chapter 19.
Personality:
To understand Nanoha thoroughly, one must take all aspects of her life into account. Her home life, her life as a mother figure, as a teacher, and as a peacekeeper. One might just take one look at her and see a strong, willful, stubbornly kind woman, but you would miss the impact of those words by just taking her at face value.

As an instructor, Nanoha exhibits exemplary skills as an air combat mage. Though she had humble beginnings, she has spent more time as a mage in her life than she ever did as a normal girl, and now her job is to pass on the "wisdom and tactics" she learned throughout her life to others. They should not have to face the same mistakes and hardships she has. Overestimating her abilities, acting on her own, being reckless. These are all traits she dislikes in others, and her training is set up to discourage this behavior. Just because she knows people have to go all-out sometimes, there are times and places for such gusto. Mock battles are meant to showcase good strategies and test the limits of one's ability to think on the fly. They are not meant to break those limits and seek to land the finishing blow on the opposition at all costs. Nanoha will step in to prevent such an event from happening, just as she did with her reckless Forwards, Subaru and Teana. To the surprise of others, she acted rather ruthlessly when she bound Subaru and made her watch as she knocked Teana out, stating she should "cool her head". This behavior earned Subaru's ire -- a girl who, above all else, admired Nanoha and idolized the strength that she displayed ever since she was rescued as a child. But both she and Teana were made to understand why she had acted so coldly, and in the end they themselves learned the lesson that might not have made it through their stubborn heads any other way. It takes one to know one, after all.

When it comes to the idiom "I'm a lover; not a fighter", you could say that Nanoha is both of these things. She is not above using every tool in her arsenal to resolve a conflict. The first option she chooses, however, is to try and talk things out. Though she attempts to negotiate first, Vita has likened her attitude and habit of doing so while in full battle regalia to the punchline of a Belkan joke: "If you're an emissary of peace, don't carry a spear." One cannot blame her, when her opponents all tend to attack first without any explanations as to what they have planned. If talking will not work, she will do everything she can do disable or otherwise incapacitate her "enemy" so that she may THEN talk to them on even terms. No weapons. No fighting. She just wants to understand others. Nanoha genuinely wants to know what makes those who lash out this way tick. How can she attempt this if they will not communicate with her? If the lines of communication have to be laid out with brute force, then so be it. Her motives can be considered selfish as well, in that she wants to understand others whether they, themselves, wish to be understood or not. There are also the rare moments in which she gets overly emotional, triggered by harm coming to those around her. If there is ever a button one could push to bring out the "white devil" in Nanoha, it would be going after her loved ones. It is a good thing that her particular brand of magic is non-lethal in nature. It will hurt like hell! But whoever invokes her wrath WILL survive past it.

These are often the first impressions one might have from Nanoha's world, if all they do is keep up with her TSAB accomplishments, as well as her reputation and rumors surrounding her battle records. Shedding her armor, Nanoha is a woman that has very simple desires. To live peacefully with her adopted daughter Vivio (and Vivio's other guardian, Fate), is one of her goals. She wants others to be able to live out their lives without strife, as well, which is why she will not hesitate to protect those she loves and cares for. Nanoha is quite down-to-earth, when you consider how she acts when she's not on duty. Her students had once gone along on a mission to Earth — in Nanoha's home city, of all places. There, they discovered that she acted around her true family and old childhood friends as if she belonged there the whole time. It shows that she has not strayed too far from her humble roots, despite the change of scenery and her reputation within the Bureau. Nanoha is far from conceited in this regard. She even wields a subtle sense of humor, and she is rather thick-skinned when it comes to taking teasing from her friends and family. At the same time, she is not one to judge or mock others, or make light of their plights.

One could look at all of this and say that Nanoha is almost super-human. She is beautiful, intelligent, wise, powerful, and has plenty of domestic prowess. Nanoha is able to instantly switch between the roles of a teacher, warrior, mother, or friend as the situation calls for. However, this behavior is not without its drawbacks. While Vivio points out that Fate is Nanoha's "close person", and she will admit to having close friends, it appears as if she keeps nearly everyone in the same bubble. Being in the lead as she so often is, it puts her in a risky position more often than not. It is not that she is fearless; but rather that she bets everything on overcoming those same hardships. Most who know of her place her on a pedestal. It is a lot of pressure to live up to those standards, and to perform flawlessly. She is the common link between so many people. If something were to happen to her it would be devastating, so she pushes herself to prevent that from happening. It results in breaking her own limits to the same reckless degree she chides others for displaying, putting a strain on both her mind and her body. Her stubborn pride is just as much her biggest asset as it might be her eventual downfall.

[ Action : Mayfield Elementary ]
[ The halls of the elementary school were full of the hustle and bustle of young children. Nanoha walked these halls today as she often did, hands clasped behind her back, and a calm smile on her face. Anyone who knew her could see that she took well to this teaching job. She had plenty of experience with children (in age and attitude alike), and also watching and raising her own daughter. Her demeanor was always bright, showing eagerness to teach and thus pass on that eagerness to the children as they learned.

Today, however, her eyes were not focused on the children she was given care of in this strange town. Her mind was elsewhere, distracted for but a moment by the thoughts of the lives that many of them have left behind.

It isn't as if anyone gave them the choice to come here. Many have likely left their family and friends behind. Whether those lives and realities were happy or sad. Whether they resented being at home or had deep, loving relationships to look forward to. Whether their families were rich or poor, or if they even had families in the first place... Those things all did not matter here, unless the those who ran the town had also chosen to transplant those elements along with them.

Nanoha has seen and heard enough of children who experienced many unnecessary hardships in their early lives and it made her heart ache. When — not if; when — it comes time to leave this place, she will think of these children. It wouldn't matter then how many different worlds they might be from. It wouldn't matter what sort of homes they belonged in, or still needed to find. She will keep them close, tell them that everything will be just fine, and then guide them home.

Then she would have some words for those who brought them to Mayfield to begin with. ]

Miss Nanoha?

[ Her eyes became focused once more. She snapped a quick look around, not quite certain when she had stopped pacing the halls. ]

Miss Nanoha?

[ She turned to the cautious voice and spied one of her new students, a troubled expression on his dirty face. Her smile matched that concern, and she crouched before him. ] Now, now... what happened to you? [ The boy wouldn't say. She reached out her hand to him. ] It looks like things got a little rough during recess. Come on. Let's go wash your face and then you can tell me all about it. Does that sound okay?

[ Hesitantly, he took her hand, and she stood upright to lead him on. Her grip was firmer than usual, though the boy didn't understand why. ]

--((Aaaand since I didn't feel like that had enough dialogue, here's a bonus!))--

[ Phone ]
Good afternoon, Mayfield. My name is Nanoha Takamachi — though you will find "Nanoha Kurenai" on all official documents and signs, I ask that you please disregard that change. [ This town can do a lot of things, but she has some pride in her family name. What would they think, back home, if they heard her giving it up so easily? Clearing her throat, she moves on with her announcement. ] I wanted to introduce myself, as it seems this town has seen fit to place me in the position of guidance counselor at the elementary school. While I've learned that the work is largely optional, I'll say that I have no intention of closing my doors to anyone who might need some advice, or maybe just someone to talk to.

I know things can be rather difficult here, and for right now, lending my ear like this is the least of what I want to do for you. [ Her voice is soft, cheery, reassuring. ] This offer is not limited to students, or school hours. While I cannot promise I will always be available at a moment's notice, I will do my best to make the time.

[ And here is where her tone loses some of its strength, her sentimental nature bubbling to the surface. ] I have one more thing to add. To those who are friends with my daughter, Vivio, and my dear friends Fate and Hayate, I want to personally thank each of you for lending them your strength during a time in which I could not. [ Like the flip of a switch (or the flick of a tear from the corner of her eye), the cheery vibe returns. ] There might not be any way I can repay you, but I'm quite confident my family's baking recipes will give me a leg-up as I try!

Oops, I think I've talked enough. I look forward to speaking more with you all. Keep your chins up, everyone, and have a good day!

Around his 15th birthday, this power surfaced in a controllable fashion, and he found he could actually manipulate reality itself, if in very small ways.

Of course, this being both powerful and worrying, the government took him away to a secluded experimentation lab where he was assigned the identification Entity as a short-hand name for the project associated with him and his abilities. While the scientists did their best to treat him well, the experiments and tests associated with the project was scarring and painful for him. The trauma eventually caused his mind to splinter off a second, more sadistic personality to serve two purposes -- protecting himself and striking back at those who "hurt" him. This personality appeared during most of the tests, often misleading the scientists to ruin said tests or end them quickly.

During one such test, something went horrifically wrong. In a panic and in agonizing pain, Entity's powers went wildly out of control, shattering the very fabric of reality and warping the entire facility into something out of a young child's nightmare. The other experiments were warped into monsters and Entity was forcibly contained, but the other personality had been given life of its own as well and the splitering had ensured that it was the one with the control over Entity's powers. Masquerading as another scientist using the PA system, this other personality ("Shadow") led all of the scientists to their deaths against the mutated subjects.

Eventually, Entity's cage fell apart and he ventured out into the facility. Fearful that Entity would escape into a "cruel world," Shadow began manipulating him, sending him to false "deaths" against the creatures and dangers around (knowing that Entity would subconsciously use his power to "reset" himself back into the cage) or delaying him any way he could. This cycle continued for centuries, Entity's sanity decaying and his body only surviving off his powers as Shadow did everything it could to ensure that Entity remained in his cage. Still, though he would constantly fail -- sometimes sooner than later -- he began to slowly progress through the facility.

During one cycle, however, Entity became surprisingly lucid. Understanding more of what was going on, he ignored what Shadow directed him to do, progressing with rapid and worrying speed past the monsters, obstacles, and rooms that the twisted lab had become. Despite Shadow's desperate attempts to delay him, Entity continued forward, finally coming to the deepest room of the lab. Laughing mad and smug, Shadow physically confronted him, revealing he and Entity were the same and mirrored in perfect sync -- there was no way to kill one without the other, he boasted, encouraging Entity to give up and return to his cage willingly.

Entity, however, had discovered that -- in the last few seconds he had his full powers -- he had subconsciously given himself a way out. He leapt over the pit between them both, Shadow mirroring his jump, but at the height of it where they both met, Entity threw the last spike he had gathered. It bounced harmlessly off Shadow's body, but that was not what Entity had intended: throwing the spike suspended his body in the air for a fraction of a second. Shadow, lacking either spike or ability, instead continued to plunge -- with Entity hanging, however, the plunge was straight down into the pit. Though Entity managed to grab the edge of the pit and save himself once he began to fall again, Shadow was too far down past the edge and instead fell into the mutated gems, killing him.

With Shadow dead, the reality he had taken over shattered, leaving Entity in a final, lit room. Now free of his other half, Entity stepped into the beam of light, ushered out of the twisted world he had created from the facility and into the real world once more.
