Applications

• Please read over all the rules and information before applying in order to minimize any confusion before joining.

• If applying for a character that has already been dropped, it would be a good idea, though not required, to know something of their previous interactions. You are also free to pick up a dropped character with no memories of their previous time in Mayfield.

• All content for the personality and sample entry in your app must be written or roleplayed by you; for the personality section in particular, we do not accept copied text from wikis or other sources. Obviously, you may not copy your app from other players, whether in Mayfield or other games. Application plagiarism will result in a ban from the game.

• If you wish for your character to be placed in a specific house, please mention this in the relevant section of the application and specify that permission was obtained by the PCs already residing in that house. We will be operating by the Honor System for this, and there is no need for others to comment their permission in this post!

• Other special requests would also best go in the beginning of the application. Remember, grammar and spelling are important -- if your app contains errors, you will be asked to revise.

• Please post all applications or canon updates in this post; posting them elsewhere and linking to them from here may cause them to get changed later. Posting them here keeps us from having to save them.

When Applying, Fill Out the Following:

When Applying for an Original Character, Fill Out the Following

• Before applying, please look over any applications that were recently accepted to get an idea of what we're looking for.

• If you apply for a character that has already been reserved, we will inform you and ignore the application until the reserve runs out. You may not apply for more than two characters from the same canon. For the sample entry, you may write your own entry, or use a post from a musebox, dressing room, or other game. We recommend [community profile] testrun_box if you prefer the latter!

• After you're accepted, please follow all of the instructions given. You will need to reply to the acceptance, post your journal to the friend add page and your canon post, join the communities, and use the friend add page to update your journal. Once you're accepted, please introduce yourself on the community when you're ready to play.

• If your app is "Pending", do not freak out! This means that we need you to make some revisions, and does not mean you're rejected. We generally give players a chance to revise before rejecting them, but we will reject apps that do not address the concerns stated when we asked for a revision. If you have been rejected, our reply will clearly state this to be the case. If we have not gotten back to you yet, under no circumstance does this mean you are rejected. If it has been over a week since our last reply, it would be a good idea to contact us with a reminder, otherwise, please be patient!

• If you have received a "Pending" notice, you will have one week to supply us with your revisions, or your reserve will be considered expired and that someone else is free to apply for the character.

• The typical wait for a reply on apps may be anywhere from a day to a little over a week. If any part of your application requires a pending, it may be another week after your reply to that before we can get to you. We process a high volume of apps every round, so please be patient.

If you have not heard back on a pending for over a week after apps close, please send a PM directly to the mod account.

Commander Shepard | Mass Effect series | Reserved

Other Characters Played: RED Engineer, Tara/Terra, Figaro
Preferred Housing: I'd like to ask for the mum slot with the BLU Heavy. I've spoken with BLU Heavy-mun, and I've got permission.

Character Name: Jane Shepard
Character Series: Mass Effect 2
Character Age: 31
Background: Going with the Earthborn/Sole Survivor background. Setting of the Mass Effect canon and plot of Mass Effect 1 is here, while the plot of Mass Effect 2 is here. I'll be taking Shepard from after the events of the opening movie, where the Normandy gets destroyed.

Personality: Jane Shepard did not have an easy life as a young girl. Growing up with no parents and running with gangs, she learned to be tough from an early age. As such, she's not someone who breaks easily, even under the most stressful and upsetting circumstances. When she had to leave Ashley behind to die, she refused to let the guilt get to her, focusing instead on completing the mission because the lives of so many depended on it. A sole survivor of the Akuze disaster, she watched 30 of her fellow comrades perish. Yet somehow, she's still a commander, and she's humanity's first Spectre. It takes a strong person to do all of that, with all the emotional trauma she's endured.

However, this is not to say that she did not suffer any effects from all those deaths. Akuze was bad, and while she didn't let it break her, she couldn't simply just let go of something that traumatic. As Jack once told her, stuff like that, it follows you wherever you go. The deaths of those 30 soldiers really haunted her, but it seemed that she was getting better at the start of Mass Effect 1. Time heals, right? Well, until you lose two comrades in the process of saving the world, one of which trusted you to make things right. Losing Wrex, and then Ashley, was a real blow to her, although she did her best to appear strong about it. She had an entire team looking up to her after all; if she broke down, then they would too. Especially Kaidan. Shepard does actually suffer from Survivor's Guilt; it's just that she's used to keeping it hidden, for the sake of the team. Even killing off the Rachni; yes, they were a dangerous race, but sometimes she has to wonder whether what she did was really the right thing, especially if they promised to stop killing others.

As such, in Mass Effect 2 she's resolved to get by with as little killing as possible. She'll still pull a trigger, but only after she's taken everything into consideration. She's realised that while a bullet is the quickest way to solve a problem, it's not always the best option. The regret that comes with one wrong shot is something that's had an impact on her, and it's taught her to be more careful everytime she aims her gun at people. When presented with a choice yet again to either kill the Heretic Geths, or brainwash them, she opted for the latter. Some of her team pointed out that it was a second sort of death for the Heretics, to lose their freewill. While they were right in a way, Shepard still chose to rewrite instead of destroy, simply because she wanted to give them a chance to live right. She never gave that chance to the Rachni, and does she wish she could take that back now.

Shepard has also, overall, become a kinder person in general after Mass Effect 1. She's more likely to help others solve their problems now in Mass Effect 2. This includes preventing a young man from dying when he tried to sign up for a suicidal mercenary mission, helped clear a Quarian's name when she was accused of stealing a Volus's chit, saved refinary workers from a fire even though it distracted them from the mission, and even helping to clear up a Krogan's confusion about the fish in the Citadel. She's become more of a girl scout than she was in Mass effect 1, when she was more inclined to just stay focused on the mission at all costs.

Lastly, Shepard has come to care for her crew, like they are her own family. Whether they're the team that goes with her into the battlefield, or the Normandy's crew like Joker and Dr Chakwas, they're all important to her. As such, she will go out of her way to ensure that they stay safe, eg in Mass Effect 2 she charged ahead to save her abducted crew members, although she was adviced to take more time for preparations. She didn't want to risk their lives. She goes around helping her team members as well. Miranda needs to rescue her sister? Done. Jack wants closure by blowing up the abandoned facility that tortured her? Let's do it. Mass Sergeant Gardner wants better ingredients? Shopping time! And she'll also be there to make sure they do the right thing. She knew Mordin would regret killing his student Maelon. She knew Miranda would regret killing Niket. And she knew that killing Sidonis wouldn't help Garrus in the long run, because what he needed to get over wasn't Sidonis, but his own guilt. She takes time to talk to her team, get to know them, maybe even be their friends, because they really are all she's got left in the galaxy.

On a side note, she did like Kaidan Alenko, but she did not pursue a relationship with him because she felt he deserved someone without so much emotional baggage. Suffice to say, their reunion in Mass Effect 2 really, really hurt her. A lot.

Abilities: Shepard is a Soldier; she's got better endurance which helps her lead the charge into the fray, and she knows how to use all the different guns available: heavy pistol, assault rifles, sniping rifles, sub-machine guns, shot guns and the heavy weaponry. She's got killer aim. She's also pretty strong and fit. As of Mass Effect 2, she's got some cybernatics inside her, but other than that she's as human as they get. She's also good at charming people with Paragon options, but she's still got a bit of Renegade options left. This is mainly left to the player's discretion, but she will have a bonus when it comes to convincing people.

Sample Entry:
Talking about emotions and logic with a Medic.
Getting to know the RED Spy.
Meeting Miku Hatsune.
First Voice test with Shepard.

Slight ammendment

My addled brain thought that the number of dead squad members on Akuze was 30; my bad, it was supposed to be 50.

Also, the house address for the BLU Heavy is 1252 Williams Road. Sorry I forgot to mention it.

Character Name: Haku (Feel free to slap a last name on him, he doesn't have one)
Character Series: Naruto
Character Age: 15
Background: Haku @ Narutopedia
Personality:
With as dramatic as Haku's genderbending -- and the apparently very distinct dual personae that go with it -- is, it might seem counterintuitive to say that it really isn't his primary personality trait. A fun diversion, and some insight into the way he views himself, yes, but central to the core of Haku is his reliance on others and his loyalty to those he considers his.

Haku's time living in the street taught him one very important thing -- alone, on his own, he was nothing. He was a patricide, a street child, and the future he faced was filled with uncertainty and risk. He was small, young, and pretty, which left him very vulnerable, and he carried a gift he didn't understand, one that simultaneously granted him some ability to defend himself and put him at a great deal more risk, as any demonstration of a bloodline limit would lead to a repeat of the violence that killed his mother and forced him to kill his father. But when Zabuza took him in, Haku gained much more than a home. Suddenly, he had a direction, a purpose. His life meant something, because he was useful. Zabuza turned his bloodline limit from a curse into a blessing, turned his entire existence from a miserable joke into something that he could be proud of.

As a result of those early formative experiences, Haku defines his internal sense of worth very strongly by the worth he believes others find in him. Deep down, he himself actually does not believe in his own value as a person; so far as he's concerned, he only matters if someone finds a purpose for him. It's a harsh outlook, and one that leaves him very vulnerable; as seen in canon, when he believes he has failed Zabuza and is no longer a suitable tool, he simply gives up and asks Naruto to kill him. Why bother living when he's shown himself to be useless?

The flip side of that is his intense loyalty. In canon, it's reserved for Zabuza; in roleplaying, of course, that may well change, although he'll need time to open up to someone enough to attach that loyalty to them. In short, living for someone else's use means being completely trustworthy to them, so that he is the most valuable. Who trusts a tool that breaks easily or that turns in their hand? once someone has shown him that they need him, he'll do anything they ask, and it would take some massive act of treachery or evil on that person's part to shake Haku's devotion, once offered.

And so far as his genderbending is concerned, it's easy to look at Haku the quietly competent shinobi and Haku the sweet and innocent young... girl? and see someone who is fundamentally divided, perhaps even to the point of mental disorder. It's not hard to see where someone would get such a notion; the differences between his two distinct personae are so marked that it requires someone with keen observation or better-than-normal senses to even see that Haku-the-girl and Haku-the-ninja are in fact the same person. But while neither persona is false by any means, they are only a superficial difference; the same fundamental person lies beneath the different mannerisms and appearance.

Haku the sweet and innocent, his "girl" appearance, inhabits a hazy place in his mind that is really neither a lie nor completely a truth. When he's in this persona, which occupies most of his recreational time, he carefully hides any trace that he is a shinobi, or that he's male, although he doesn't have an enormous investment in being mistaken for a girl -- ie, he won't make up elaborate lies to protect his "secret" or anything like that, although he more carefully conceals his ninja nature. For him, gender is not an identity issue, it's just something fun to play with. He presents those facets of his personality that are the most civilian in nature, and enjoys being treated like nothing more than a pretty young thing. If you meet this Haku on the street, you'll see nothing more than a cute schoolgirl -- albeit one who is very, very aware of the world around "her." Shinobi alertness doesn't go away just like that.

In truth, the feminine persona is Haku's way of living out what he would have liked to be like if he hadn't become a shinobi. Robbed of his innocence at a very young age by the murder of his parents, he enjoys his time in the civilian role as a way of ducking out of the hard life of violence and death that has plagued him ever since. Not that he doesn't enjoy being a shinobi, but it's intense, and sometimes, it's a relief to slip away from it. And besides, people's reactions when they learn that he's not at all what he seems tend to be hilarious.

Because Haku, for all his sweet nature and tough upbringing, does have a strong mischievous streak. It may well be nourished, in fact, by his appearance and the assumptions people tend to make about him, but he loves tweaking perception, and sometimes, it can be very hard to tell whether his feminine persona is completely naive or is in fact cheerfully trolling everyone. (Hint: probably trolling.) When Haku and Naruto met in the woods, for instance, Haku allowed Naruto to spend the entire conversation addressing him in blushingly feminine terms as they engaged in a deep, philosophical conversation, and then casually tossed the revelation of his actual sex over his shoulder with a laugh, leaving Naruto to freak out and possibly question his sexuality. It's funny like that. In terms of Haku's actual gender identification, he does refer to himself as a boy, but appears to have almost no investment in that identity, making him most likely at least a little genderqueer. He simply doesn't care what people take him as, except for the question of how much amusement he can get out of the whole matter. Manly pride? Not this kid!

Abilities:
Haku possesses the abilities common to most ninja in the Naruto world: by controlling the chakra, natural energy of the body, he can make himself stronger and faster than normal, can walk on water, up the sides of walls or trees, as well as stand upside-down (on ceilings, the bottom side of tree branches, etc.) and can stand on ice or other slippery surfaces without sliding. He can move briefly at speeds so fast that he appears to flicker from place to place, and by controlling his chakra through the use of various hand seals, he can shape the chakra into genjutsu (illusory techniques, such as creating a duplicate of himself for limited tasks or to act as a decoy) and ninjutsu (ninja combative techniques, such as creating a wave of water or blast of air to direct at his enemies.) Additionally, he is talented in the use of many ninja weapons, with a preference for senbon (long metal needles that can be thrown or used for stabbing.)

In addition, he possesses what's called a kekkei genkai, or bloodline limit: in this case, the combination of the Water and Wind elements to create Ice. With his Ice Release, Haku can use Ice, as well as the elements that make it up, as a combative weapon, with certain specific applications he prefers, although he can shape ice in other ways as well to fit the immediate need.
- He can create senbon out of ice, meaning he has an essentially limitless supply, and that they will naturally melt after use.
- He can form large "mirrors" of ice and move between them, almost a form of teleportation; one of his favorite techniques is to surround an enemy with them and dart between them, attacking as he goes, all too quick to be followed or counterattacked. These mirrors are almost indestructible -- normal fire cannot melt them. Haku's chakra power must be completely overwhelmed to break or melt the mirrors, or he must voluntarily release them.
- As well as attacking, his ice can be used for defense by forming a shield; like the mirrors, the shield is virtually unbreakable.

Character Name: Giegue (Giygas)
Character Series: Mother
Character Age: At least a century old
Background: http://earthbound.wikia.com/wiki/Giygas
Personality: As the leader of his own race of beings from another world, Giegue has long learned to close off his emotions in favor of coldly accomplishing his mission: the enslavement of the human race. He believes that emotions like empathy and compassion are feelings that only get in the way. Without distinction, he is wholeheartedly willing to carry out his mission no matter who may be foolish enough to stand in his way. It's true that while he is loyal to his planet and willing to carry out its will mechanically and systematically, he has retained feelings like hatred and disgust when it comes to the human beings. Beyond his loyalties, which certainly pushed him to follow a path of conquest, Giegue has a personal vendetta against Earth that is rooted in the betrayal from his human paternal figure, George.

Giegue's favorite tactic of dealing with humans is arguably turning them against one another. He spreads his power and influence to make inanimate objects come to life, turn animals violent and rabid, and strengthen the evil inside people to have them fight amongst each other. The alien sees humans and the people of Earth to be weak this way because of how easily susceptible they are to his influence. They have no power to call their own and chase after it without abandon, falling headfirst into their own graves instead. This is largely the humanity that Giegue has been accustomed to in his experiences, although admittedly, he deliberately hides knowledge of their inner kindness for the sake of his mission.

Giegue realizes that there are humans who are kind and gentle, and exactly this that he's afraid of. He was raised as an infant by George, who betrayed his people for power and knowledge, and Maria, who taught him what it was like to feel love. For his mission, he closed off all those unnecessary feelings, but in the end, they have become his weakness. Giegue genuinely loved Maria who was nothing but caring and compassionate to him. Eight Melodies, the lullaby that she would sing to him, in the end became a reminder of the feelings that he closed off along with the ultimate weapon that would subdue the invaders for a time. Giegue would softly sing the lullaby to himself every now as he craves the lost days where he was happy with Maria.

Beyond carrying out the subjugation of humans according to the wishes of his people, Giegue craves escape. The fact that he had to repress memories of Maria and the emotions they carried shows how far Giegue had to go in order to prepare for his first invasion. Just before his second invasion, Giegue created the Devil's Machine that amplified his powers, but completely shattered his mind, leaving only pure hate and evil in a non-solid state. Each attempt at conquest demanded Giegue to repress more of his inner feelings to the point where he completely tore apart. He would often if not always choose conquest and fulfilling the expectations of his people over his memories of Maria. The strong, fulfilled wish to return to those days with her, though, resulted in his subsequent madness.

Abilities: PSI in the world of Mother was originally stolen from Giegue's race. Giegue, as its leader, has incredible psychic abilities that overshadows those of any humans in Mother. Most of his psychic attacks come inexplicably and are able to penetrate through most defenses. His inexplicable attacks often come in the form of strengthened PK attacks. One inexplicable attack sends a strong, psychic wave from Giegue with a slight chance of freezing anybody hit. Another sends two bolts of electricity and the last does not inflict any damage beyond forcing anybody hit to start crying uncontrollably, feel strange, become paralyzed, or fall unconscious.

Giegue is able to broadcast a strong psychic suggestion that brings inanimate objects to life under his command or manipulate people with strong, ill desires to follow him and most animals and insects to obey him.

He often telepathically communicates with people from wide distances rather than verbally and given enough time, he can read minds, but the heat of battle prevents him from taking advantage of this. For example, anybody who has come in contact with Giegue and lacks sufficient mental defenses can establish a link with him where the alien becomes aware of the other person's thoughts and emotions.

But even then, this is hardly used in battle and Giegue must work to tap into the link. The thoughts do not come organically to him.

Giegue himself is strongly resistant to damage and there aren't too many weapons on Earth that can successfully stand up to him. His weakness consists of memories of love and positive feelings, but even without those, against another sufficiently powerful entity, Giegue may have difficulties with resistance. However, as he is, he has enough power to weather through much damage and fatal wounds.

Character Name: Grell Sutcliff
Character Series: Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler)
Character Age: 100+ (Apparent age late twenties-early thirties)
Background: Grell Stucliff became a shinigami in the late 1700s. If he had a human life before that, he is unable to remember it. As a young shinigami, Grell was known for his vicious temper and brutal violence, but also his technical skill at collecting human souls and working with the cinematic records, the recording of a person’s life that plays out upon their death. This is dangerous work, and his antics are tolerated because he is very good at it. On purely technical achievement, he holds one of the few AAA scores on record at Dispatch where he was trained and works. However, in spite of his impressive talent, his mental instability, emotional outbursts and brutality kept him from any kind of promotion. His original partner, the young shinigami who took the original exams with him, is William T. Spears. William is now a supervisor at dispatch.

Grell appears to have mellowed somewhat through the years. While still unstable and violent, his more flamboyant and effeminate personality seems to have been cultivated over time. After the incident with "Madame Red" (Where he willingly became an accomplice and participant in the “Jack the Ripper” murders) he appears to have been professionally reprimanded and even demoted multiple times. William replaced his chainsaw scythe with scissors, something Grell greatly lamented. However, his originally modified scythe has been recovered.

If asked who the love of his life is, he will answer that it is Sebastian Michaelis. He became infatuated when Sebastian nearly killed him. The correct answer is his supervisor William, but whether or not he's actually aware of this is unclear.
Personality:First and foremost, Grell is insane. While amiable, cheerful and flirtatious generally, he scrolls through emotions rapidly and is quick to intense and frightening fits of rage, violence, lust, sorrow, and affection. Always fancying himself an actress, emotions seem to him more like an opportunity to make a dramatic spectacle of himself, rather than something he actually feels. Therefore, his over-reacting is legendary. Moreover, when confronted with emotions he can’t write off as a game or use for attention, Grell can suddenly seem strangely fragile. Grell is quick to declare his love for anyone he deems worthy. He will usually act as though his feelings are requited in spite of all evidence to the contrary. Masochistic in nature, abuse and physical violence from the targets of his intense passion usually just encourages him.

For Grell, attention is attention. And attention is good no matter how negative a form it takes. In fact, he seems to prefer provoking negative reactions and even physical attacks from the people around him to any other form of interaction. He dearly loves to frighten people and make them uncomfortable. It's frequently unclear in his fits of passion if he is truly proclaiming affection or merely wants to antagonize. He's also capable of and even revels in gruesome acts of violence. He dearly loves all things red, especially blood.

Grell takes issue with his physical gender. While outwardly male, he refers to himself using female pronouns and enjoys thinking of himself as a woman. However, while he likes his long hair, makeup, and the occasional dressing up, Grell really makes no serious effort to present himself as anything other than a man. Whatever his feelings on his gender are, he legitimately gets a level of satisfaction from presenting himself as one gender an calling himself another. The only sincere emotion on the matter he shows is that he does genuinely lament not being able to carry children. He likes children, but they also make him uncomfortable. This discomfort combined with his short temper and tendency toward wild outbursts make him particularly bad with them.

Most of the targets for his wild romantic attentions are men, but he's flexible in the matter and can harbor romantic and sexual feelings for women. This, however, is rare. Most women he treats with jealousy and distain.

Loyalty isn't something Grell is overly concerned with. He'll look out for number one. However, he is very vain, and is susceptible to flattery and tokens of affection, no matter how minor or insincere. In fact, even the smallest sign of approval seems to delight him. He seems to have no real qualms with letting himself be manipulated quite readily. Once motivated, Grell can be easily be made into a powerful, but ultimately unreliable ally.

He does have moments of lucidity, and he can be quite cunning and intelligent when he wants to be. Generally, he’s not so mentally broken that he cannot function; he’s just broken enough so that he doesn’t care to. Therefore, it is never quite clear how much of his wild, mad persona is real insanity, and how much of it is acted for the benefit, or rather determent, of those around him. Notoriously self-absorbed, he can often be brutal or cruel even when he doesn’t intend to be.

It is the job of a shinigami to kill people when they are scheduled to die and harvest their souls. Therefore, Grell’s relationship with death is fairly skewed. For Grell, to kill a human would only be to reap them early. It wouldn’t have much significance. He sees human life as dirty and boring anyway, so he has no real respect for it.

His other interests include playing games, acting, theater, music, and the arts. He also enjoys photography. Grell does have an incredibly short attention span. So, his interests and hobbies tend to be passionate, but short lived.

[Personal Note: Some people play Grell as a male to female transgendered woman. Given that the series does not portray Grell as having any symptoms of being trans, and in fact he has a lot of traits that show he's not trans, I choose not to. He's not trans, he just likes to gender-swap. I'm not saying this is the right way to play him, just the way I play him.]
Abilities:Grell has all the powers and abilities associated with Shinigami in his canon
universe. They don't age, and the only way to kill a shinigami is with a
death scythe. The death scythes cut the soul away from the body at death
and, in Grell's canon, are the only weapon that can kill a shinigami.

Grell has stamina, durability/constitution, and speed and agility that are
much greater than a human of his same age and physical fitness level. In his canon, he's even considered to be strong and skilled even by the standards of his race. He can feel pain and responds to injury the way a human would, but he heals almost instantaneously and injury does not seem to affect his energy levels or
ability to respond in any way for the brief time he has them.

Grell's death scythe is in the form of a chainsaw and has all the
destructive power such an item would normally have. However, it also has the
power to reveal a person's "Cinematic Record " when wielded, giving him
access to all the memories that person has obtained throughout their life.
It also cuts the soul from the body, sending a person's soul into the
afterlife.

There are other items that allow shinigami to alter that record, but Grell
is not in possession of those items, nor would he be allowed to be.

Grell also appears to be able to tell humans from non-humans, sense magic,
and sense when people have magical/supernatural abilities. Hearts and stars
and other symbols seems to appear around him in response to his rather
flamboyant emotions.

He also possesses the ability to conceal his large chainsaw death scythe
about his person with absolute discretion. It's impossible to tell where he
pulls it from when he decides to wield it.

He can sing well if motivated to do so. And, if he so chooses, he can
sometimes alter his physical appearances for a disguise.

Sample Entry:
Grell spun around happily in his bright-white dress with perfect red polka-dots. The colors never bled, and the red never faded, no matter how many times he washed it. He skipped out of the front door of the perfect little house, completely content. No, he didn't know why it was his house. But, it was an improvement. He liked it. He assumed William or someone would come for him soon enough, so he decided to just enjoy it while it lasted.

He needed groceries. Yes, a housewife needed groceries. Oh! This was such a fun part to play! Giddy, he skipped with a red basket on his arm, grinning from ear to ear.

Oh look! Hopscotch!" Grell, easily distracted as always, saw some children playing. "May I join you, little one?"

"Why are you in a dress? You're a man!"

"You little brat!" Grell shrieked. The children ran in terror from the whirring chainsaw and the man int he polka-dot dress.

Character Name: Victor Fries (pronounced Freeze), aka Mr. Freeze.
Character Series: DC Animated Universe, Batman The Animated Series
Character Age: It isn’t ever stated, but he is probably in his early to mid 30’s.
Background:

Up to the Deep Freeze episode summary

I also want to note that I am incorporating his childhood background, which is not elaborated on in the animated universe, but is likely unchanged. Mainly how he was an anti-social child, who froze domestic animals and was shipped to boarding school, where he met his future wife Nora.

Personality: Out of all the Batman villains, none have quite a personality like Victor Fries aka Mr. Freeze. For starters, he is not the typical villain that is used to being seen as an adversary of Batman’s. He doesn’t wish to see Gotham burn down into flames nor to take over the world, kill others or even attack Batman unless necessary. While his childhood was complicated, Victor never had a very rough life (at least not compared to other villains in the gallery) and he certainly wouldn’t classify as having any sort of mental psychosis. He is overall a reserved man who keeps to himself, never going out of his way to speak with others and keeping to himself more than not. While there are evident signs of antisocial behavior and depression, it never tipped him over the edge so to speak into a life of crime. It’s easiest to say Victor is a man done wrong and crime was the only way to take his revenge.

Let’s start with the basics. Freeze is a general recluse, who does not interact much with society on a normal basis. He was not an exceptional person genetically, evident by the fact that he was close to balding in his thirties, and this made him insecure with himself and generally timid. Even before the lab accident, he never went out on a limb to socialize and was more interested in science. He believed his intelligence could overcome any physical and social discrepancies, and that society was more to blame for not accepting him, so he pursued his love of cryogenics even as a child. However, his stunted emotional and social growth would have consequences at an early age. He never saw anything wrong in freezing both dying and healthy animals, so that they could continue living beyond their lifespan in the future, and couldn’t comprehend why his parents were disturbed by his actions. This continues on through most of his adult life, as his fascination toward cryogenics leads him toward the thoughts of immortal preservation through the science.

After the lab accident that changes his body and makes it impossible to live outside of a subzero temperature, Victor becomes Mr. Freeze. As Mr. Freeze, he claims that his emotions are frozen and that he longer has any regard for human life. While the latter may be true, given he was more than willing to kill for his revenge, the former is highly questionable. Freeze is shown multiple times to still have emotions, but pertaining mainly toward two things. The first is his regarding himself. He still shows signs of being angry, bitter, panicked and even tearful in the series, proving that he is not devoid of emotion as he claims to be. If anything, the claim is likely made to make people more frightened of him and take him as a legitimate threat. The second is his wife, Nora, who was cryogenically frozen after an incurable disease nearly took her life. He does show emotions from time to time in expressions, but they are normally contained and his icy tone is rarely unheard, even when expressing both shock and even amusement.

He is not without his flaws naturally. While Freeze doesn’t have any real mental psychosis afflicting him, he does have a very large narcissistic personality, in that he does not believe he can do wrong. He does not see any problems with taking company funds to finance his research, becoming a criminal to exact his vengeance, never understood why his parents were against his freezing experiments and the list can go on. Even after everything he does, he never admits to wrongdoing nor does he show remorse toward his actions. If using force is necessary to further his goals then he will do so, stating that he does not care for other people or their pains. He will tear down any wall, abandon, attack and even kill anyone he has to, in order to get what he wants. This includes innocent bystanders and even his own henchmen, as he opts to leave one whose legs he accidentally froze (blaming the henchman and saying he should have been more careful). While he is still considered to be an anti-villain (“the ends justify the means”, essentially is the quick way to describe it) he is no true ally to Batman and will never see eye to eye with the vigilante, so long as the other stands in his way, no matter what passing sympathies the other may give him.

However we cannot talk about Freeze without taking into account his raison d'etre, Nora Fries. Victor recognizes easily that he has never been a very sociable person. He was more interested in science and the pursuit of immortality than interacting with others in a casual setting. His antisocial behavior coupled with his depression and made him a general outcast. However, there was an exception to that in Nora. To Victor, she was the most beautiful woman in the world and the one who warmed his heart for the first time in years and the two fell in love and married. But, she was fatally ill with an unknown disease that was quickly killing her. Victor spent countless days and nights with little sleep to find a cure, but came out empty handed. In order to give them more time, Victor requested that Nora go under cryogenic sustainment, which would freeze her in time until he could research and produce a cure. Not long after his body is transformed by the laboratory experiment and his faith in humanity as a whole shatters. The only thing that keeps him going at first is exacting his vengeance against the CEO which caused his accident and the assumed death of his wife, but later when he discovers that Nora’s containment cell survived the accident with her inside he swears to find her a cure and to not leave her side.

His devotion to her is clear, as even when Oceania is being destroyed, Victor opts to stay with Nora’s containment tube and possibly die there. Suffice to say, Nora is Victor’s driving force in many of his actions and choices. Yet there is something very wrong with his love for her, as it bridges on nigh-obsession. He quite literally puts her on a pedestal, as the only one who he truly loved and the only one who ever truly loved him. If she is involved in any way, he will always take her safety and well being into account before all else. Despite claiming that his emotions are frozen, there is no mistake that Victor truly loves Nora and would do anything to see her healthy and lively again. If not that, then at least stay by her side.

Abilities: While Freeze is a normal human being, I feel that his condition should be at least addressed properly.

Due to the lab accident caused by Gothcorp CEO Frank Boyles, Freeze’s entire body has biologically changed due to the cryogenic chemicals he was doused with after crashing into them. His entire metabolic structure altered and, as a result, he can no longer sustain life outside of a subzero temperature and can only go out in broad daylight with his suit on. It also changed other parts of him, such as his voice being naturally lower when out of his suit and his entire body being literally ice blue in color.

Sample Entry:

[He doesn’t want to be here. Not in the slightest. But, he was given an assignment yesterday that he should attend the school as a high school biology teacher. He does not want to teach kids, especially not teenagers. But, this gave him an idea. It takes some preparations, but he eventually gathers what he needs and gets ready to go to school. So, he comes to the classroom at the designated time and begins writing:

Victor Fries – Cryogenicist.]

Hello class. I am Victor Fries, your new assigned teacher in biology. Now I know that most, if not all of you, have no interest in learning here. This town has a sick humor assigning me as a teacher alone, but I will not let you sit here and twiddle your thumbs for the next hour. As I was a professional scientist and lab worker in the past, I am more than qualified to teach you. But I highly doubt any of you want to learn about the reproductive cycle of a flower, so here is what we’re going to do.

[He then reaches down from the desk and brings up a cage, holding a white lab rat inside.]

We are going to be experimenting in cryogenics on lab rats, such as this one. Observe.

[Victor then reaches into his bag and pulls out a sealed test tube, filled with his chemicals. Without hesitation he opens the cage and pours part of the vial onto the rat. The pained squeals of the rat are unmistakable, as it quickly begins to run around the cage in pain. Yet, not even ten seconds later, the rat’s movements begin to slow and its white fur and any visible part of its body is turned ice blue.]

This is only step one of the experiment. And no, before you think of it, you are not permitted to leave and participation is mandatory. If you do not then know that it will not end with you being sent to the principal’s office, but a much...colder punishment will be issued let us just say.

So, lets get to work.

(If the background link isn't detailed enough, I'll add to it.)

Personality: Riku is a timid, quiet boy but he has a kind and gentle nature. He's friendly, and not one to judge others, despite any differences they have. This is seen by him befriending Mui, a young girl who lost her leg in an incident, and his devotion to continuing to treat Saya as his big sister, even after finding out she was a Chiropteran and not human. He cares about his siblings very much and always works to bring them closer.

Kyouka Midarezaki | Kyouran Kazoku Nikki | Not Reserved

[personal profile] cawtier 2012-01-08 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
Name: Kobayashi
Personal Journal: N/A
Contact Info: MindtheSukima on AIM, PM any RP journal
Other Characters Played: Remilia Scarlet, Youka Naze, Diamonds Droog
Preferred Housing: Somewhere with active players/more PCs than drones

Character Name: Kyouka Midarezaki
Character Series: Kyouran Kazoku Nikki
Character Age: 20 (Technically older)
Background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ky%C5%8Dran_Kazoku_Nikki

Personality: Kyouka is arrogant, selfish, destructive, whimsical, demanding and more than a little strange – exactly what one would expect from a super-powered idol who was raised as the Child of Enka, the monster than almost wiped out humanity 1000 years ago, and worshipped underground as a goddess in the empire of Shangri-La. Capricious and self-absorbed, Kyouka tends to think less about what’s logical or reasonable and more about what sounds like the most fun to her. She wholeheartedly believes that there is no enemy she can’t defeat and no ally who shouldn’t bow down before her. Loud, with no regard for personal property or personal space, Kyouka is quick to respond with violence even against those who offered none. Childish, prone to complaining, pouting, tantrums or subversion to get what she wants, she’s more like a bratty child than any of the children she’s raising.

Much of this can be attributed to her upbringing or as a reaction against it. A lot of her selfishness and wanting to be pampered and spoiled is both because she was brought up in such a seat of luxury but also because she is used to being the one other rely on and come to for things; as a god of her people, the citizens constantly saw her as a deity to ask favors of and not an actual person. This actually causes Kyouka to have a deeply buried insecurity of her own identity and role in life – she has no memories of her life before she arrived in Shangri-La 20 years ago, or of when she was the demon queen Vanessa. She doesn’t even know whose body it is she’s possessing. Along with the possibility that she might be the actual Child of Enka who will destroy the world, she is not always as self-assured and confident as her constant claims of omniscience and omnipotence make her out to be, and likes to be reassured and praised by those close to her.

Not to say how she acts is a front. Kyouka is indeed headstrong, tending to charge into things with half-baked or completely absurd plans. Her greed is such that she’d interrupt the epic battle between a pirate captain and the first mate who betrayed her to try and steal the treasure the captain’s father left her to inherit. But she’s also extremely caring and protective of her family, and has a strong sense of justice with no sense of limits or intimidation, going after anyone who she thinks is in the wrong… or happens to be between her and something she wants. Even though Operation Cozy Family is just a group of people thrown together to pretend to be a family, she takes her duties as the wife rather seriously and really does her best to care for (in her own fashion) her children and love (however ineptly) her husband. For those or really, anyone who she’s decided to rescue, she’ll go to any length, be it declaring war on one of the most influential mafia families in the country, enacting some terrible sentai-like action scene to deceive school children into thinking her daughter’s a transforming robot hero, kidnapping senior citizens to test potentially deadly cooking on, or punching out an imposter Santa Claus in rooftop fisticuffs.

She can actually be pretty thoughtful – she’s the one who remembers their anniversary, and learns all the file information on their children before Ouka, the more responsible one, does. She cares a lot about her family and what she considers to be family values, like finding it completely unforgivable that Ouka would point a gun at their son… even if their son is a biological weapon that was threatening to kill him. That said, her idea of family harmony is more like a tyranny, with herself at the top. Disobedience requires firm (re: violent) discipline and possibly groveling for forgiveness. Still, for all the abuse she gives them, she’ll give a million times worse to any who would try to take them from her or harm them.

Despite how violent she acts or omnipotent and omniscient she claims to be, Kyouka’s also surprisingly innocent when it comes to romance. She’s actually genuinely fond of Ouka despite how badly she treats him, and easily gets jealous to a ridiculous extent when she hears he’s going on “dates” with another woman. She also seems to derive much of her idea of how a relationship should go from watching anime and romance dramas on TV, and finds clichéd scenarios to be extremely attractive and want to act them out – or some crazed variation of them. She blushes at the thought of getting even just a kiss on the forehead, doesn’t usually sleep in the same bed as him and apparently, even after being “married” for a year, hasn’t been kissed on the lips. She also wanted to go through a whole actual marriage ceremony with a big party even after they were married. And because of how she was raised, she’s apparently also ignorant of many other things, like not knowing what Christmas was until it was almost upon them.

And then there’s just Kyouka’s plain eccentricity. She likes to live her life as a god, a tyrant, and the main character of some kind of nonsense manga all at once – a vacation should include a hijacking option with a planned crash landing at a deserted island; a trip to the zoo includes having to find all the members of the family in different animal pens – after she put them there on purpose. She renames people without their permission – all butlers in white suit are Pierre; she even writes it on the back of his/her suit. To her, a super-influential and wealthy mafia family is just “a bunch of lowly animals with a lot of pieces of paper with 10,000 yen written on them” – lowly animals are still lowly animals. Her idea to help her son come to terms with his budding first love? Turn it into a confession game show, practicing different confession reactions from “kiss from being ecstatic” to “secretly an assassin that kills anyone who says they love her”, and then inviting the very person he’s in love with to participate. Her response to her husband forgetting their anniversary is to become a magical girl and use the power of love to punish him.

Basically, Kyouka is a crazy, headstrong, caring yet selfish, loving but abusive, childlike and godlike being with no regard for rules or common sense.

Abilities: Kyouka has a group of telepathically based abilities she calls “Cell Phone”, which lets her do things like send telepathic messages (calling), take control of them for short periods of time (mail) or temporarily disable their central nervous system (hacking). She can also use it to locate people, vaguely based on their force of personality, and otherwise mess with someone’s senses (such as causing them to perceive green as red) and generally screw with their head. Also, because she is originally a demon soul that possesses bodies, she can leave her own body and more fully possess others and gain full control of them, including unlocking hidden potentials that are normally restrained (re: the ol “humans only use 5% of their brain/X% of their actual muscle power blah blah blah” thing). She can also create and control miniature versions of herself that function more or less autonomously. Besides that, she’s also super strong and super fast, able to kick through walls, survive massive damage, jump between buildings with ease, dodge lasers and bullets and wrestle Santa Claus.

Sample Entry:

[The phone clicks on to what sounds to be crazed laughter. Possibly from a small child.]

Nyahahahaha! Nyahaha!

Alright, you pigs, listen up! Today, your gray and lackluster lives come to an end! Die, fall over, crumble into ruin and rise up like the phoenix in a glorious rebirth for today is the day you truly start living! Rejoice, for the absolute and unique goddess is now among you! If you touch your head to the floor three times and call my name, I might find you worthy of saving.

Mayfield? Drones? Brainwashing, messing with the time space continuum, being told to make a cozy family? This is barely even anything new to a god like me! I feel at home already, you’ll have to do better than that if you want to get the best of me; as a wonderful fact, I, Kyouka-sama, am omnipotent and omniscient! You’ll at least have to send in an alien warship and eighty-four cyborg battalions before you’re ready to take me on!

[And then the imperious, demanding proclamation suddenly sounds like a shy schoolgirl talking about their new boyfriend]

Oh, ah, and if one has seen my darling Ouka~ He’s a really boringly mediocre four-eyes with red hair and pretty common kind of depressing history, please send him my way~

[And then she’s back to speaking at a million miles per hour again]

Or any of the rest of the Midarezaki family, containing one simple girl, one older sister, one jellyfish, one lion, one biological weapon and one crossdresser! They respond to Yuuka, Chika, Gekka, Teika, Hyouka and Ginka respectively! Of course, if any of you are hearing this, report immediately here, your mother is calling! In fact, why aren’t you here already? The speed of sound should at the least by the speed of anyone who dares call themselves Midarezaki! I’m expecting you at least five minutes ago! Last one here is a dog for a week, so make sure you get here before Ouka does.

Ready? Set, go! Let the party begin!

[And she hangs up the phone like phone-slamming is an Olympic sport and she’s going for the gold medal]

Character Name: Shura Kirigakure
Character Series: Ao no Exoricst
Character Age: 26, claims to be 18
Background: Shura is the mentor to the main character Rin, and co-worker to his brother Yukio. She is a high-ranking Exorcist and often shows up in the nick of time to save Rin and his other classmates when they get in too deep. Despite her important role in canon, it is comparatively minor and little is known about the specifics of her past.

Ao no Exorcist takes place in modern-day Japan, mostly in a specialized school for Exorcists called the “True Cross Academy.” Shura works for the academy, and it strives to rid the world of demons that pass over from their world “Gehenna” (hell) to the human’s world “Assiah” (earth) by possessing people and objects within Assiah. Okumura Rin, the son of Satan and an Exorcist, is the main character and adopted son of Shura’s late teacher, Fujimoto Shirou. Although very little is known about her early life beyond that it was hard and she spent a good chunk of time as a child living with large snake demons, from which Shura was rescued at age nine by Shirou. She later earned the “meister” Exorcist title in the “Knight” and "Doctor" categories under his guidance and eventually went on to obtain one of the highest rankings of an Exoricst, “upper first class”. Although the conflict itself was not stated, it seems she and Shirou had a falling out as Shura has been shown deriding him for “casting [her] aside”. She also held a great deal of resentment towards him for apparently leaving the life of an active Exorcist to raise Rin and his brother, Yukio, and it is this resentment that first lead her to take on the case of observing Rin for any connections to Satan. Upon seeing Rin release blue flames- a sure sign of Satanic heritage- she took him back to the Japanese headquarters of the True Cross Order for execution.

However, when Rin declared his intent to achieve the highest ranking of an Exorcist- a Paladin- Shura realized that Shirou had been raising a son, not a weapon. This caused her view of Shirou (and Rin) to soften, and she subsequently decided to fulfill Shirou’s request of her- that she take care of Rin and guide him, should anything happen to himself. Since then she has declared herself Rin’s teacher and mentor. Shura has been shown to actively protect Rin on more than one occasion- be it from the current Paladin ordered to kill him, or helping to defend him at a trial to determine his fate at the True Cross academy. She even protects him from himself at multiple points in the manga, keeping his flames under control by making sure his sword is safe and sheathed to contain his power by storing it inside the seals on her body. At her current canon point she goes so far as to knock Rin out with a containment spell when he releases his flames without thought, and stays outside the cell he's subsequently placed in to keep an eye on him.

Shura is currently in charge of Rin’s personal training in addition to working as a general teacher of him and his classmates. Essentially, although very little is known of the details of her past life, she is strongly motivated by the bond she shared with Shirou and her desire to continue his work with Rin and Yukio by teaching and protecting them both.

Personality: Although Shura may initially come of as someone who is merely loud, flippant, and occasionally sarcastic, she is much more than that. Just as her scanty outfit appears to be nothing more than a means of attracting attention- when it is in fact a means of making her fighting style easier- Shura hides her true motivations and capabilities under layers of casual, even goofy, speech and action.

Throughout the series, Shura is only referred to by her first name and very rarely with honorifics attached, only stating her title for formal introductions to other Exorcists. Likewise she very rarely uses formal speech with others, nicknaming those she is close to and not even adding honorifics to the names of her superiors. This is not to say, however, that she is brazen to the point of stupidity. While she may not speak formally to her superiors she is nearly always respectful to them unless drastically pushed, and knows how to conduct herself in a business-like manner when necessary. Similarly, although she is often shown drinking and fooling around while on the job, when it’s time for a battle she is always ready and willing, often times with an effective strategy prepared beforehand or on the fly from keen observations. This flexibility and willingness to get her job done and follow through with her duty is often obscured by her loud, frequent, and presumably misleading complaints about work. Along this line of deception, she also followed and observed Rin and his classmates for many chapters, carefully posing as a quiet, hooded classmate of theirs- showing she is more than capable of wearing masks beyond her “own” brash nature.

Shura’s speech may not necessarily seem to be that of the most intelligent woman- she uses words such as “ain’t” and occasionally grammatically incorrect contractions- but she is in fact an able strategist and highly attentive. She takes risks when necessary, and is an independent thinker. She consciously delays her report to the Exorcist headquarters about Rin both in order to judge him more for herself, and out of a sense of indebtedness to her former master and Rin’s father, Fujimoto Shirou. This also shows that although she takes her job seriously, she regards her personal loyalties as more important.

In addition, although she appears flippant to most she does in fact care deeply for those she deems important to her. She advised Yukio that he needed to learn to let more people into his heart, otherwise he ran a risk of dwelling too much on the negative and becoming possessed. Her care for Rin is also shown in the way she teaches him, consistently and even patiently helping him to learn. Although she frequently, playfully calls him an idiot, she only ever genuinely derides Rin when necessary, in order to help him better understand the magnitude of his power and its potential danger. Hers is essentially a policy of “tough love,” a front of casual indifference or sarcasm put up to mask a truly caring, if demanding, soul.

Abilities: As an Exorcist, Shura has a variety of abilities which I have listed here:
Walking Koshirae: Shura can remove and replace her own or others' swords into the tattoo on her stomach and chest. It's implied she keeps her cell phone in there, too. She speaks various phrases to remove or replace a sword, depending on which part of the tattoo she wants it to come from (her chest or her stomach) or go in to.
Demon blade/Knight Meister: Shura's sword, being possessed by the spirits of snakes, is a "demon (slaying) blade", meaning in addition to being a weapon of stabbity death against "normal" creatures, it's also a weapon against things that go bump in the night. Demons, devils, and possibly ghosts and other manner of "evil" or even simply "supernatural" creatures are probably going to be wounded by it. Obviously since the sword isn't just for show, she's a highly skilled swordswoman as well.
Serpent Fang: Shura flings blades of wind/energy from her sword, which have enough force to crush concrete.
Absolute Emptiness: Apparitions of large snake demons fly outward from her sword towards her target, temporarily neutralizing any demonic powers they may be using.
Snake Lance: Shura draws her blood along the side of her blade, causing it to grow in length and presumably, power. It also hisses when she does this and seems to grow a mouth of sorts. It is capable of flinging out jagged purple blades of energy in this form.
Epic Cross-dressing: Shura can bind her chest and pass as a man surprisingly easily, and well enough to fool someone who's known her for at least four years.
Hellooooooo Nurse/Doctor Meister: She may not look it, but Shura is competent in the treatment of a host of demon-related injuries/illnesses, in addition to basic first aid and field medicine.
Seals and Stuff/Aria Meister: Shura can inscribe a variety of seals to repel, contain, or subdue demons and other baddies. She is also well-versed in the "fatal verse" of a multitude of demons
SNAKES!/Tamer Meister: Shura can summon and command a small(ish) snake familiar (presumably what canon calls a "byakko") to aid her in her Exorcist work, often augmenting her seals or helping... give directions to people while in a car...
Hyper Observant: Shura's ability to sense things happening around her is almost supernatural. She has on more than one occasion instinctively known when a demon was nearby but otherwise hidden from sight, or masquerading as a human. Due to her time living with snake demons as a child (as mentioned in her background) I headcanon she has an especially keen sense of smell/taste when it comes to the supernatural. Stronger demons and supernatural entities are naturally easier for her to sense, while weaker ones only give her an inkling or odd feeling of intuition about what they really are. She cannot determine the specifics of their origin (what type of demon they are, etc) by this method alone, only guess at their relative power level. Other Exorcists have been shown to do this as well so it's likely this is also something taught to Exorcists in general and improved over time; she just has an exceptional talent for it.

Character Name: New Zealand | Kerry Monro
Character Series: Axis Powers Hetalia
Character Age: 16
Background: Wikinet, IRL country

Personality:

The first impression that most people will get is that New Zealand is a cheerful young nation, of average height for a young lad and, if a bit skinny and with features that are slightly too soft for a boy, definitely not a person who would stand out much. While energetic, the nation is not nearly as boisterous as some other countries, and while the smile is usually there, it ...okay yeah, it can be a really scary Stepford smile,a nd not really fit what is said with it. But most of the time it is a normal honest smile. NZ is not as forgettable as Canada, only... someone who likes staying in a corner of the room drinking some OJ in nice company while everyone is hauling chairs at each other and yelling.

That is actually how the Southerner spends large parts of most family gatherings.

New Zealand is usually a friendly, peaceful and slightly odd nation - living far away from most others and thus having little contact with them, taking sports to extremes always (NZ's idea of hiking is more like European survival training than hiking), hanging out with sheep a lot and being more British than the British, especially ever since France tried to snatch some of the colony's territory by founding his own.

The last two at least can be blamed on the European powers (the first is geography mostly and the second is just there and there are only theories on why it is so) and went down this way: So England had claimed New Zealand for himself, just that the Maori and the white settlers did not get along well. Then, finally, the Treaty of Waitangi was signed. It basically said that the Maori were guaranteed their land and would in return obey the Queen. (Needless to say, their land was not nearly as safe as the treaty guaranteed it, but that is a different story.) The interesting thing was that this treaty got signed by an extremely high amount of tribal chiefs over the course of the next 6 months, and England thus had something very solid on his hands when, a few years later, France decided that New Zealand was an interesting little fellow. So he founded a settlement on the South Island. And then England had one of his totally mature episodes. "I WAS NOT INTERESTED IN THAT ISLAND UNTIL NOW BUT WOW FRANCE YOU'RE NOT GETTING IT." A few years later, France had left the islands and Christchurch, the place that he had founded, became British. Very British. And this applied to the whole nation - while NZ does still know some French, it is buried deep down and hardly ever used. Teasing England by calling France 'maman' is a completely different story. And it needed to be buried under something... and that something was being British and just stuck.

And about the sheep: They are not exactly native to the islands. Yet sheep and kiwi birds are the canonical pets of NZ.

Okay, so I mentioned 'peaceful' up there, right? I should probably mention that there are three exceptions to this: An actual threat to NZ or someone who is important to the nation (like the motherland England); rugby (and to a lesser extent some other sports); Oz. The last two are all in good fun, though. For example: Calling each other 'sheepshagger' is totally normal sibling behaviour to them.

It probably showed a bit when I mentioned the teasing England by calling France mother, but New Zealand also has quite a mischievous streak. Teasing others or confusing them can be a lot of fun as long as it does not get out of hand or causes diplomatic or other trouble. Knowing where to draw the line is the key point here.

NZ's gender is not a part of that, though. It is simply that the binary gender definition does not mean much to the nation, and when the child reached an age where it became important, it had realized that to strictly define oneself as one or the other brings a lot of restrictions and trouble. And with the youngster being an internationally rather unimportant and only seldom bothered nation due to geography and political status, nobody minded much.

Right now, New Zealand is 16 years of age (17 in modern day) and a British dominion, but since the beginning of the century there has been a tremendous growth spurt due to the nation gaining a sense of independence, and in only a few years that feeling will become an official reality.

Okay, lastly a second piece of history - I tried to work it in somewhere but it just did not work out.

If asked how old the first memories that Aotearoa has are, the nation would most likely smile at the asker and answer with a myth. There are a few memories of events from before Netherlands dropped by for the first time, but since the protonation was mostly living out in the wild and only infrequently lived with humans, and also because of the still very young physical age, all memories are more fuzzy, dreamy and well, mythical, which is most likely a reflection of Maori history telling.

The first memory of someone who felt similar, or in other words a nation, is a bit weird and conflicted. Netherlands had come exploring and was upon arrival surrounded by a few Maori boats. A signal was trumpeted, and thinking that it was a friendly greeting, the European nation answered in the same way. Not a good idea: It had actually been a challenge that he had just accepted. The next day, the natives attacked and Netherlands lost four men. As a result he left again without ever having set foot on the island's ground.

While NZ's people considered the contact hostile, the tiny nation who was watching from the beach mostly felt curiosity towards that stranger who gave off such a familiar feeling. Seeing the ships sail away without that man who was different yet similar even setting foot on the island's soil was disappointing. The next time when someone would give off a feeling like that, NZ decided, there would be a proper contact of some sort. Knowing that you are not the only one, and then having that person being taken away from you, is a mean thing. Not that the child was unable to deal with the experience, being alone was something the nation was used to. But when England arrived and had a translator with him so that the humans could communicate, the little child was elated to say the least, and that positive feeling towards the stranger stayed. He left and came back and left again, only writing letters more often than not, but Kiwi did not mind: Being alone was not bad with the knowledge that someone is out there who understands and cares. The fact that England introduced New Zealand and Australia to each other (for a while, NZ was a part of New South Wales) and that they both were loyal to the motherland and thus did not talk each other out of it was definitely a plus, too.

The most striking fact about the nation in the eyes of someone from for example Europe will be the peacefulness. Sure, there was fighting in the past, but there was exactly one (1!) act of war committed on the islands through all of the 20th century, and the only wars that Kiwi was in were those that Britain had called his dominion into. The nation itself shows that by trying to avoid conflict - when teasing someone, Kiwi will never let it get too far (again, unless it is Oz, but only because there the relationship is clear and the boundaries are long-term-tested and wider); when people start to fight New Zealand will hardly ever interject, at least not if it does not seem 200% necessary. Another reason for this is that the nation is aware of the fact that there is not much Kiwi weight to throw around in world politics, especially not as long as the dominion status stands. When someone is in trouble, Kiwi will be more prone to offer a sympathetic ear and listen to them, and maybe give hugs and advice (depending on if it feels appropriate) than to go and kick whatever troubles that other person in the privates. New Zealand likes to talk to others, but then as well will try to stay out of fights - discussions are fine, and sometimes you need to make your opinion heard and sometimes people are dumb, but NZ strongly believes that yelling at each other won't get anyone's point across and thus will avoid that as much as possible. The nation is neither particularly chatty nor particularly sparse with words, but if the other nation is up for deep talks, the Southerner can get very inquisitive.

The above does not mean that NZ will always dodge, though. Depending on what it is, the Oceanian can be very stubborn. For example: "Fight about who makes dinner" - dodge and have a napkin in the lap if England makes it. "You won't get your nuclear ships/weapons/etc anywhere near my lands" - verrrry stubborn. And then there is what I would call sibling feuds - long-standing or hot and fast burning more or less silly disagreements with Oz and other Oceanian nations that can get pretty dangerous looking to an outside but are, as mentioned above, all in good fun.

NZ genuinely likes most people, though it might also be described as amiable curiosity in many cases - strangers are interesting. You will have to do a LOT to make this nation dislike you. So far, nobody has managed to earn real hatred or dislike. This means that when meeting others, the nation will display a friendly attitude, and stay even friendly in tone and expression when teasing others ("You should find yourself a room, you two" when coming across Australia shearing a sheep, or asking England how his martial trouble are going when referring to France and England's relationship, things like that). Playing tricks on someone ("Sure, America, everyone in Australia's place wears hats like that, you will make him really happy if you know that") is totally a-okay, too, as long as it won't really hurt someone.

Abilities: Nation immortality.

Agent Milla Vodello | Psychonauts

[personal profile] darrrling 2012-01-09 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Name: Tricks
Personal Journal: [personal profile] pantsu
Contact Info: fail hero @ AIM | friends only, scootshire@gmail.com, naoto @ Plurk
Other Characters Played: freeeeeesh meat!
Preferred Housing: Psiioniic-mun (from Homestuck) and I would like to have Milla and Psii housed together! Psychics gotta stick together and all that.

Character Name: Milla Vodello
Character Series: Psychonauts
Character Age: unknown; well into adulthood
Background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychonauts
Personality: Agent Milla Vodello is, in a word, bubbly. She loves to have fun and, moreover, loves to see others having fun. That much is obvious just from the first look at her mind- Milla’s brain is set up internally as one great big fun dance party, for Raz and all the other children to dance and play in. She certainly loves to be the center of attention, too, as she tells Raz that she was “always meant to be” on TV. In fact her mind is set up with several TV screens through which you can watch her dancing. But it’s not all about her, certainly not - she always tries to make her kids feel like they’re rock stars, too, telling Raz that the party is “dying without him” and the like. Milla wants everyone around her to participate and enjoy themselves, rather than only being focused on her own fun.

In fact, if you examine her actions in more detail, it becomes very obvious that Milla is very concerned for the safety of the people around her, particularly the children who are her charges. For instance, when you should be going to get Levitation training from her, she says over the intercom that she hopes the children are having a “happy and safe” day; when she is tricked by Coach Oleander into a trap, she leaves a message on the bulletin first telling the children that they’ll be back soon, who they should talk to while she and Sasha are gone, and that they should not be scared being left alone. Still later, when her brain is recranialized, her first concern is to recover the other children’s brains, and during the final showdown she immediately Levitates Lili and Raz out of harm’s way instead of going for Oleander. Obviously, then, she has a protective and motherly nature, and is more concerned with keeping her charges safe than she is with her own well-being. Which isn’t to say she places herself in danger heedlessly - but she is a well-trained secret agent and supposed to be ready for anything, and so is her partner Sasha, whereas the children they are training are not.

But why is she so concerned and protective of the people around her? A look into a side room of Milla’s mind gives us the answer. Out of the general path of the Levitation course, there is a small door that leads to a room with a memory vault and a chest. Opening the vault shows Milla’s memories of her time running a home for foster children, who she dearly loved and dedicated her life to. One day, while she was shopping for groceries, the house burned down, and as her children died Milla psychically heard their screams for her. Jumping into the nearby chest takes you into a room of Milla’s nightmares, where she hears those children accusing her of leaving them and screaming in pain. So Milla has always loved and protected children, maybe even always wanted to be a mother, but the trauma of having lost what she loves once makes her extra careful with her charges now.

This isn’t to say that Milla is an emotionally fragile wreck underneath a happy exterior, because she certainly is not that. Despite her nightmares, Milla has a strong and exuberant personality that simply cannot be restrained, and she has the force of will to move on past those nightmares and get them under control. Though her nightmares are vivid and horrific, Milla has locked them away in her mind, keeping them safely contained where they cannot harm her dealings with the real world. Her second memory vault, “Milla’s Adventures,” shows her becoming a Psychonaut after losing her children; these memories are full of exuberance and life, showing her as a strong figure, and there’s no insincerity in how kindly she deals with the children at Whispering Rock. Not only does she find new purpose, she even (seemingly, as implied at the end of her second memory vault) finds room in her heart for falling in love rather than wasting away in grief.

In fact, in the end, despite her laid-back manner Milla is a strong person and a very good secret agent when she needs to be. Despite losing everything that was precious to her, she managed to forge a new life for herself as a Psychonaut, spreading good in the world as a secret agent and even becoming famous as the “Mental Minx” due to her skill. Rather than crippling her emotional life with sorrow, the fire that killed her children seems to have made Milla more determined to protect what’s important. She still has an incredibly optimistic personality, light and bubbly enough to be the Psychonauts’ foremost Levitator, and is still strong enough in mind to Levitate two other people far from where she is and fight off another Psychonaut with Sasha at the same time. Milla is, then, an indomitably optimistic character and an agent to be feared in her own right, who doesn’t let her past get in the way of what’s important now. Laid-back and fun-loving she might be, but then, maybe she’s just learned that it’s important to hold on to the joys of life to endure its sorrows.

Abilities: Milla has a lot of psychic powers! These are general powers common to Psychonauts, but she’s better at some than others. We mostly know that she’s incredibly skilled at levitation, but I headcanoned her skill with various abilities a bit. She is proficient in most of them, though, since she is a full Psychonaut!
-Levitation: she’s famous for this. Basically she can float or glide or roll or what have you, and it keeps her safe from most obstacles. It should be noted she’s also the only character shown able to levitate others with her psychic abilities, in the showdown with Oleander where she gets Raz and Lili out of harm’s way - which isn’t to say that other Psychonauts can’t, necessarily, just that she is very skilled and can do so. (Raz himself cannot, suggesting that it is an advanced technique.)
-Telekinesis: what it says on the tin. Lift things, throw things, make things float, et cetera. Distinct from Levitation.
-Invisibility: yep.
-PSI Blast: ability to focus and fire a ranged shot at opponents. Not as skilled at this as Sasha, but she’s plenty good at it.
-Shield: ability to protect from and even reflect attacks with a mental forcefield.
-Clairvoyance: ability to see through someone else’s eyes. Also works on animals and objects with a lens such as a camera. Can be used on an object associated with or previously attached to the subject, also, like a feather from a crow.
-Confusion: throws a kind of bomb that imbalances enemies and, well, confuses them temporarily!
-Pyrokinesis: make fire with your brain. Not mentioned in the game, but I’d assume she’s bad at this due to trauma from the fire that burned down her orphanage.
-Psycho-Portal: this handy item allows Milla to enter anyone’s mind she chooses, or allow others to enter hers. (If this is regained it will of course only be used with another mun’s permission.)
-Psychic punches/Palm Bomb: This is pretty simple, more forceful than a normal punch but a basic psychic technique. A Palm Bomb is basically a jump in the air and spiral down into the ground that creates a psychic energy shockwave.
-Control of nightmares: Milla is able to wall off nightmares in her own mind, presumably due to Psychonaut training. Without her mental abilities they’ll be free to torment her again.

Okay, who is ready to party? I hope it’s everyone, because we are gonna have fun fun fun at the prom this weekend, darlings! Now don’t worry, children, I am going to be personally chaperoning to make sure nothing bad happens to any of you. We want to have a happy, safe prom for everyone! And that means no alcoholic beverages, no drugs, and absolutely no fighting. Leave that stuff at home and we’ll all have a good time, okay?

And if anyone wants to go to the makeout room... [ Milla’s suggestive wink is practically audible. ] Don’t worry, Milla’s got your back! I’ll just look the other way, mmkay? Just make sure you take care of yourselves, children! See you Saturday!

Trucy Wright | Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney | Part Two | Reserved

[personal profile] minukin 2012-01-09 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: An exquisite self-proclaimed magician extraordinaire, Trucy Wright is practically a ball of positivity. Her optimism and overall happy attitude towards life is infectious and leads her to be popular with nearly everyone she meets. Described by her adoptive father, Phoenix Wright, as the "light" in his life, it's very difficult to not be at least a little joyous when she's around.

Full of energy and imagination, Trucy always lets her mind run with whatever she's shown and comes up with situations or ideas that are simply out there. With nearly every piece of evidence, Trucy can come up with some kind of odd tale. Show her a key ring? She goes into how she could open the lock to a guitar case in ten seconds, tops! With handcuffs? Twenty seconds, tops! What about showing her a remote trigger? She only wishes it triggered a bomb that blew up an entire coliseum rather than a simple igniter.

However, Trucy is also fairly intelligent. She's Apollo's "right hand man", so to speak. Her assistance in solving cases is key and not without merit. Her discovery in Turnabout Serenade, in which she found that the happenings of the entire day in question were related to the lyrics of a song by Lamiroir was invaluable and ingenious, and she was the very first one to point out such a connection. She often seems to be at least a step ahead of Apollo, especially in trial. Often times, Trucy with yell out a "Hold it!" herself, cheering on Apollo, pushing him the right direction, connecting the dots of information, or even arguing her points to the court on her own. At one point, Apollo muses to himself that the "apple doesn't fall far from the tree" after Trucy intelligently and vehemently argues a case, turning it around, referring to her adoptive father, Phoenix Wright's ability to make such turnarounds during his time as an attorney. She's quick on her feet and is adamant about making sure that justice is served and an innocent defendant does not go to jail without reason.

Despite this uncanny intelligence and ability to think critically, Trucy can be naive more often than not. Upon explaining her "magic panties act" to Apollo, she proclaims "A lot of people come just to see my panties, you know!", to which Apollo suggests that she "might not want to advertise it like that". All Trucy can muster is response is confusion. She also displays some of the naivety when dealing with the mob family, Kitaki, in terms of how exactly organized crimes operate, much to the amusement of one the family members. Her naivete, however, is part of her charm and it's a huge part of what makes Trucy, Trucy.

Trucy is prone to being both curious and brazen. For example, Trucy pursues a panty-snatcher that takes off with her magical panties from the window of Wright Anything Agency, unaware of if the snatcher was dangerous or if they would fight back. In fact, she chases him down until he takes cover, finally losing her, making it safe to assume that she would have confronted the snatcher, given the opportunity. As for her curiosity, Trucy will openly look into or ask about anything that catches her attention. In Turnabout Serenade, upon the Judge's mention of "bigger mistakes" he had made in his past, Trucy pipes up and says "I want to hear about these bigger mistakes!" She's eager about investigation and is always willing to help Apollo. Her excitement is immeasurable when Apollo and her piece together facts or investigate in new ways, and takes the investigation very seriously. Her want to know the truth is just as strong as Apollo's. Also in relation to her curious aspect and view on life, in Turnabout Serenade, Trucy wants to fiddle with the sound equipment on stage- upon Apollo's vehement refusal, she quotes her dad as saying "if you want to make an omelet, you gotta break some eggs".

In this, she's also impressionable, to an extent. More often than not, it's Phoenix, better know as "Daddy" to Trucy, that has such an impression on her. Often times she quotes him, and his quotes aren't necessarily things she should want to live by. Upon examining an igniter, Trucy quotes her dad in saying "Good thing machines run even if we don't know how they work". In Turnabout Corner, Apollo and Trucy's frequent dealings with the Kitaki family, a lot of the mob's lingo rubs off on her, much to Apollo's displeasure.

In light of all of her eager and earnest behavior, Trucy is remarkably mature in certain aspects of her life. She deals with rough situations fairly well and is also very capable of sympathizing with others. Despite he rough childhood, from losing her mother, then her father, she has been able to pull through it all with a smile and even grace those around her with smiles of her own. Even though she may be hurting deep inside, Trucy does her best to maintain her composure, which is remarkable for someone with her kind of past and for someone of her age. Her ability to sympathize is also truly remarkable. She can sympathize with many of the defendants that Apollo defends and she is eager to comfort them in any way she can. To put it in a few words, Trucy is a model human being, rendering the adoration that she has garnered from many quite understandable.

Despite her age of fifteen, Trucy's personality is similar to that of a five year old. Not to say that she is immature in any respect, but Trucy's naivete, curiosity, and optimism all reflect the refreshing innocence of youth. She is an overall optimistic, charismatic young girl who lets her positive outlook overcome her hardships in life.

Character Name: Tyve Russell-Rasmussen
Character Age: 15
Background:
It started with a world. This world developed as worlds are wont to do. And it grew until it reached the point where technology blurred the lines of the divine and the mundane and men became like gods--Conquering the elements, the sea, the sky and almost everything between. But then something happened, a great cataclysm lost to memories of those no longer living, and the world plunged into a new dark ages. Despite that, there were some survivors. And those remaining clung on to life, salvaged what was left and rebuilt the world slowly. Of course it was never the same.

And as time marched on, those survivors died and most of the knowledge of the old world disappeared. Of course it's been said there were certain vestiges left, such as words and concepts. However, it's been several centuries now and while legends persist of the world that was, no one remembers anything of it and as of recently there's been some debate as to whether or not it even existed. After all, even with the apex of technologies of the day such as engines, telephones and electricity, man still has yet to conquer the skies and sea.

Until one day.

Over one-thousand years to the day after the end of the cataclysm, a routine dig for ore uncovered the ruins of the world that was. It was the day the world began to change anew once more as more and more diggings started to take place. Practically overnight, technology began to not so much march forward as leap in great bounds.

But we need to take a step back and talk about Tyve. Fifteen years prior to this discovery, Tyve was born to a very well to do family. Her mother was from a minor aristocratic house and her father was a career military man with a long line of forebears (Some say even a general in the wild and early centuries following the cataclysm) for the country of Ascalon, a place known for its mountainous forests as much as its military power. She had a fairly normal childhood as an only child, wanting for nothing, receiving the best in education and lifestyle and with no great incidents to be had in her past. In fact she had decided to follow the military career path of her own father. After all, despite the fact of that peace had been long in the world, the military still had prestige to it.

At the age of thirteen, as was the custom for those in her world, she took the entrance exams for her chosen profession and was accepted at one of the most prestigious military academies in Ascalon. During her six year tenure here, with the finest minds of both war and peace, it was expected that she would learn to become a soldier. It was far from easy her first year, however.

Despite having had a father who taught her the rudimentary skills that would give her an advantage in her classes, she was neither the first nor the last of children in the academy with the same qualifications. As befitting its prestige, the academy attracted just as many children from military families and in fact Tyve sometimes found herself out of her depth when matched up to some of her fellow students. Quite a blow to the teenage girl's pride as she began her studies and something that resulted in some friction with her fellows in her year who she regarded cooly as fellow students and no more. Regardless, she managed to persevere as she found her niche, thanks in no small part to her innate shooting skills, opting towards classes and activities that would prepare her to be a marksman in the military. It was hardly the leadership track, but it would still be something to be proud of. And so her first year went on, and she even managed to make friends, two fellow girls from her year, Hollis and Aderyn by name. Two who ironically enough had been the first two she had butted heads with the most their first weeks in the academy. Social bridges made and a place for her skills decided on, the rest of Tyve’s first year passed without a hitch.

Unfortunately, this was not to last. When Tyve began her second year, the first of the ruins of the world that was before were found. While the beginning and even the middle of this particular academic year was without incident in the school, the end of it was a completely different story. By then several more ruins had been discovered and with it came conflict. After all, ruins did not discriminate between borders of countries, and while many countries were able to forge partnerships or compromises, there were just as many places where the dispute over ownership of certain ruins led to border skirmishes throughout. Ascalon was no exception. Bordered to the west by the country of Colada, there arose a dispute over a particularly large ruin between the two countries. Having never been in particularly warm terms with each other, it had only been a matter of time before their skirmishes escalated into something worse. And escalate it did, in the worst manner possible. No one is quite sure who was responsible for the idea, but it can only be presumed that one of the war council of Colada thought it to be prudent to not only demoralize Ascalon but to be rid of future leaders of their rival country. The strategy they chose was to attack the academy.

It was one warm afternoon (Unnaturally warm some would say later on) in the spring that the plan was put into motion and a small but elite force of Colada’s soldiers attacked the academy. Students and teachers alike tried to defend their school, located remotely in the forests of Ascalon, but it was in vain and even as reserve forces arrived, it had been too little too late and the damage had been done. It was then that Tyve got her first taste of real war, watching Hollis and Aderyn (On whom she'd developed a crush on during the year) cut down and her attempts to avenge the former and save the latter resulting in a scarring on her face and soul. It would later be known as the ‘Massacre of Ascalon’ and the beginning of the War of the Ruins.

The immediate aftermath left Tyve in shock for a few months, unable to comprehend the sheer loss of friends, classmates and even teachers. Even she seems to recount it as mostly a blur of melancholy and darkness. But she had always been a resilient girl and now was no different and she healed. Physically at least. It would still be a long while before the psychological scars healed completely.

But as time rolled on, the academy rebuilt itself and opened up its doors once more, despite the carnage that had happened only months before. Of course now, circumstances were different. No longer was it a time of peace and the engines of war were turning. The world Tyve lived in now was a place of upheaval. With the finding of more and more ruins, the conflict between countries and the rise in technology was inevitable. But the world wasn’t the only thing that had changed. Tyve had as well and as she began her third year, in memory of her friends, she opted to forgo the path of a marksman in the Ascalon army and instead aimed towards the leadership track. It was now wartime and with feelings of vengeance still fresh in her heart, she presses onward.

Tyve Russell-Rasmussen || OC || 2/??

[personal profile] fthisgetmecigs 2012-01-09 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Having been born in extremely well off circumstances and her world’s equivalent of high-society as well as being an only child, Tyve is used to being comfortable both materially and emotionally. So when thrust into a new and/or unknown situations, she can come off as frigidly polite or a touch too arrogant. This had been one of the traits that had endeared her so readily to her peers when she had first joined the academy and caused no little amount of conflict until she began to thaw out and display a sense of camaraderie with her fellow students. Also having been blessed with a thicker emotional shell than most, she often comes off as exceedingly blunt, quite unforgiving in her assessment of people or their actions. She has yet to grasp the idea that other people can and sometimes do have more delicate sensitivities than she does.

Just because she can shrug off most things however, doesn’t mean that she’s exactly stoic. Far from it. She has plenty of pride in her abilities and has a low tolerance for it being questioned or insulted. Really when it comes to perceived slights to herself or those she cares about, Tyve has a temper that takes long to cool and the kind of stubbornness that won't back down from a fight or a disagreement. Traits that are only intensified from her going through the emotional rollercoaster that is adolescence. Tyve, also being a teenager during the more dodgy bits of being a teenager, does have a that certain teenage surliness and bravado as well, rarely thinking before she acts and no doubt ripe for getting into trouble.

Despite her youthful brashness and thanks to her upbringing in a military household, Tyve does for the most part defer to authority figures, though really only in the context of whether or not they’ve been or are currently in some sort of milita or military service. Basically anyone with a military background gets a free respect pass from her unless they do something she views as unbecoming. On the other hand, she tends to be skeptical of what she views as civilian authority and if she doesn't like what she sees, she isn't afraid to speak up. Though if said civilian figure displays something she views as proper and right, she will give to them the same level of respect as a military officer.

On the thread of military, there is an interesting contrast to Tyve. Owing to said upbringing, outside of her emotions, Tyve does try to keep things orderly and disciplined. Which she succeeds in...Except when duty may involve personal or emotional matters. Tyve tries to be disciplined in those situations as well, but has a difficult time separating duty and her own personal emotions. She is also young and with it comes the impulsiveness, inexperience and temper that youth brings. That isn’t to say that she is completely short-sighted or incompetent. She does have a strong sense of right and wrong but sometimes does choose to ignore it as her passions dictate.

Tyve has always been a serious person, in fact it was a joke among her friends and peers that she allotted herself only one smile a month, maybe a laugh if news was particularly good. While it was a exaggerated joke, she really does have no sense of humor. She thinks pranks are frivolous (and reacts badly to them) and is that person that just really doesn't get the joke or doesn't find the humor in it. Though, she is capable of smiling and laughing a lot more often than she's been given credit for. Or at least she did. With the events of the massacre still fresh in her mind, it has become the rare event her friends have joked about.

Seeing as it’s been less than a year since she was involved in the academy massacre, she still occasionally suffers nightmares and carries a good deal of survivor’s guilt with her. Though most of the time she’s learned to keep it well hidden, occasionally a sight, sound or some sort of trigger can bring it to the surface. It’s not particularly pretty either, whether it is a small bubbling or a full blown flashback. Another result of the whole incident seems to be that she tends to be a bit more guarded in forming relationships with new people, most notably people around her age group. Having such a traumatic thing happen to a girl her age has left her shaken, though she vehemently opposes being seen as a broken thing, her pride absolutely refuses it.

People wise, she takes some time to warm up to people, even more so as mentioned previously, but once she does, she tends to be loyal and steadfast. She is the kind of person will go out of her way and bend over backwards for a friend. Sometimes even to the point of being blind to when a friend may be in the wrong. Having not experienced betrayal yet in her life, she generally believes in the good of people for the most part though her brush with the dark side of humanity via the massacre has also given her a bit of a cynical tinge at times. Though that doesn't keep her from disliking people if she disagrees or argues with them.

Passions reigned in properly, she has the potential to be a force to be reckoned with, but that is something that will come in time. At the moment she still is a girl still growing up.

Preferred Housing: n/a

Character Name: Ramses

Character Series: Prince of Egypt

Character Age: late teens to early 20s? I’m going to go with 19, and take him from right after he’s made Moses Royal Chief Architect.

Background: The Book of Exodus. With songs.

Personality: Prince Ramses is a young man very much caught between two conflicting desires. On the one hand, he wants more than anything to earn his father’s approval and love, but the only method available to him to do so is by denying his desire to let loose and have some fun once in a while. When we first see him as a young man in the film, he’s enjoying himself immensely as he engages in a chariot race with his adopted brother, Moses. The two of them act like many teenagers do, hurling good-natured insults at one another and upping the ante with steadily more dangerous tricks. In moments like these, Ramses seems to forget himself, and can allow himself to just let go and have fun. However, when the destruction that they’ve caused is discovered by the boys’ father, Seti, Ramses’ good mood vanishes, and he halfheartedly attempts to defend their actions to the Pharaoh. Ramses knows that his father expects him to take himself more seriously, in preparation for his role in ruling all of Egypt when he ascends to the throne.

When pressured, particularly in the realm of personal responsibility and regarding his role as the future Pharaoh, Ramses tends to withdraw and become moody, lashing out at anyone who would dare to suggest that he lighten up and get some perspective. Moses tries to cheer him up, to little or no avail, after Ramses has been thoroughly berated by their father for failing to conduct himself with dignity and gravity. Ramses’ response is to glare moodily down from the place that he’s retreated to, and to tell Moses to go away, because he understands nothing of what it’s like to bear the kind of burden that Ramses does. The crown sits heavy upon the Pharaoh-to-be’s head, and it takes all of the encouraging and cajoling that Moses has in him to get him to cheer up again.

As much as Ramses is stressed by his position as the heir, he also revels in it, and is clearly used to the wealth and comfort that such a role brings. He thinks nothing of giving a piece of his personal jewelry to his brother upon appointing him Royal Chief Architect, and seems very pleased indeed to be presented with a captured Midianite girl as a tribute and concubine by the chief priests. His life is one of riches and prestige, and Ramses takes it for granted that he can pretty much do whatever he’d like, so long as he lives up to his father’s expectations of him. A little later on, Moses accidentally kills an Egyptian guard who’s been pushing Hebrew slaves beyond their limits. When Ramses discovers the death, he dismisses it with a wave of his hand, saying that as the future Pharaoh, he declares that it never happened, and that Moses is not guilty of any crime. He also responds to Moses’ concerns about the welfare of the Hebrews with a lackadaisical, “They’re only slaves, Moses.” Used to a life of comfort and high status, he bears both the blessing and the curse of having been wealthy. Ramses is used to getting his way, and doesn’t always respond well when that is threatened.

In general disposition, he also tends to be a quieter, more observant person than his adopted brother. Part of it may be to curry favor in his father’s eyes, but at least to begin with, Ramses is both thoughtful and concerned with making certain that others are content. He’s not the best when it comes to thinking about his own personal happiness, however. Ramses has only one friend that we ever see in the film, and when that one friend is taken from him, he grows hard and distant. An introvert to begin with, Ramses’ tendencies to withdraw into himself is exacerbated by the Moses’ departure, and he’s never quite the same afterward.

Abilities: Nothing out of the ordinary for his time period and role in society. Ramses has an understanding of ritual and ceremony, as his role as future Pharaoh would demand. He is also shown to have some knowledge of architecture in his canon, and can drive and crash a chariot reasonably well.

Sample Entry:

[Ramses is looking a shiny new Cadillac convertible over again and again, the look of wonder on his face quite apparent as he gingerly touches the bright teal fins and the plush seats. He can’t quite believe what the salesman is telling him. No horses at all, despite the word ‘horsepower’ being used in the description? How ingenious!]

I’ve never seen such an intriguing vehicle! Would you say that it’s faster than a Phoenician chariot? I’ve always admired their designs...

[He frowns as the salesman merely laughs and shakes his head.]

I see nothing amusing in my words. It’s an honest question. Wait, how fast? And how much of this “paycheck” will it take in trade to make this mine?

Sold.

Character Name: Esther Blanchett
Character Series: Trinity Blood (manga)
Character Age: 19
Background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Trinity_Blood_characters#Esther_Blanchett
Personality: When we first meet Esther it is hard to believe she is supposed to be the heroine of the series. The young nun starts off tomboyish, rash, violent, and a loud mouth. To paraphrase another character from the series, Dietrich, she liked to talk big but, had no real power to back it up. Inwardly she would constantly doubt herself. She would think things like “I am a burden” or “That's right. I can't do anything.” She would try to overcompensate for that. For example, the incident where she charged in, gun in hand to confront a vampire in the Iblis arc. She was so determined to prove that to herself and Abel that she was not useless that she lost all common sense.

There was also another side to her though; one that often was overshadowed at the beginning. Esther is a compassionate young woman. After a vampire attack on the Church, Esther reassures Dietrich, who she considers a friend at the time, about his role in protecting her and the Church. This was after she was nearly killed herself which she seems to consider unimportant compared to Dietrich's pain. We later find out that she prayed for Dietrich and his parents after he told her his story when they first met.

Although it is not clear until later on in the manga series (but was always obvious in the novels), she is also a natural leader. Esther was practically a child when she began to lead the Partisans against Gyula. Dietrich was the mastermind, but Esther was their inspiration. She led the downtrodden and desperate people of Istavan against a leader who was slowly but, surely sending them to their deaths. Considering the fact it is hinted she did this for quite some time before Abel met her at the age of seventeen, that is saying something about her ability.

She may have doubted herself at the start after leaving her homeland but, throughout her journey we see her confidence grow. By the time she returns to Istavan, Esther has become a force to be reckoned with. When prompted to give a speech which encouraged war and glorified the battles she fought with the Parisians, Esther is reluctant at best. She instead ends up giving a speech encouraging people to instead question their leaders and drives home the fact that what she did back then was a mistake. They could have avoided the fighting and deaths if they had tried to understand each other.

It is this belief that leads her to rebel against the Vatican shortly after her speech. Esther's strong sense of justice refused to let her accept that Shahrazad should have her family stolen from her and receive no help from anyone just because she was a vampire. Esther makes an enemy of the Vatican, her former troops, and friends for the sake of Shahrazad and her family. She never once regrets it. Esther boldly refuses to give up Shahrazad's smile or her life. The only thing she does regret is what little she can do. However it is different from the start of the manga. Instead of lamenting over her powerlessness, she thinks to herself that there is no time for her cry over it. She would keep fighting and doing what she could until the very end.

Unfortunately fighting is not enough. Tragically, she cannot save Shahrazad or her family and watches helplessly as her friend is brutally maimed in front of her. She never loses faith or her loyalty towards Shahrazad. Even as the girl dies in her arms, Esther stubbornly reaffirms her loyalty until her friend pleads with her to not only survive but, change the world for the better. While Esther tries to fight her on this until Shahrazad's dying breath, she gives in at the end. She takes credit for killing Shahrazad the “evil vampire” and starts a new mission to change the world.

Esther goes from being a rash but, well intended child trying to figure out the world around her to a true heroine trying to make the world see that fighting and hating each other was wrong.

Character Name: Hope Estheim
Character Series: Final Fantasy XIII
Character Age: 14
Background: Game history Hope’s history
Personality:

Hope is a kid whose namesake doesn’t initially define his personality. He starts out as a meek boy, reliant upon the strength of his mother to make up for the insecurities he has. Typically reserved, polite, and passive: Hope rarely ever had anything he stood up for and considered himself to be useless due to his very constant confidence issues. He’s weak bodied, easily spun into doubt, young, and small: not exactly hero material in any sense of the word.

After watching his mother die though Hope goes through a huge adjustment. Grief overrides him and brings out the anger and frustration he normally would dismiss. Though his hatred towards Snow (the man who was involved with his mother’s death) overwhelms and clouds his judgment, Hope is finally able to push himself to act. He’s untrained in combat and cursed low stamina but wants desperately to become strong enough to right the wrongs that he’s suffered through.

With the absence of his mother Hope attaches himself to Vanille and Lighting, both of whom motivate him to be brave enough to attempt to talk about his mother’s death with Snow, to want to act upon his grief, and (though he acknowledges this as wrong) take revenge for his suffering. His attempts often resulted in him becoming too upset to be able to speak (which he loathes himself for). Through forgiveness however Hope is able to stop using his hatred for a crutch, and begin to improve himself further for the sake of survival, and to save the rest his home.

A fun fact about Hope is that despite his age he’s rather good with machines. With no experience in military engineering he’s able to control a gigantic robot, drive their worlds version of a car clearly meant for adults. He’s handy, and generally excited whenever he sees machines like those. It gives him a chance to show off what skills he does have, (his innocence) and help people!

Around people he doesn’t know Hope can be awkward and a bit shy, but as he gets to know others he opens up is more inclined to show his teasing, sassy, side. He likes being apart of a group, and whenever a situation appears where that group might be emotionally unsure, he does try to motivate everyone to stay and work together, (though with long enough silences he’ll start to crumble and stutter and try to politely remove himself from the stumble). He can follow adult conversations rather easily, and come to logical conclusions above his maturity level. He thinks outside the box, is observant, and eager to learn.

When Hope feels anger or hatred towards someone it is strong: he’ll speak shortly and clearly state his distaste. He won’t hold back asking questions he knows don’t have easy answers and will run in to fight someone regardless of his light weight, small size, and lack of physical prowess.

His concern for others is real, he will run over to a fallen child to help them, charge into a battle head first to defend a comrade, and fight with everything he’s got to protect another. Overall Hope has more faith in others than himself, is kind hearted, and well intended. He makes choices based on what is best for those around him.

Abilities:
Lcie: Thanks to being cursed to servitude through his worlds deities (called Fal’Cie) Hope was made into a L’Cie. Being a L’cie grants him access to magic spells not available to the general populous as well as the ability to summon a Eidolon known as Alexander. Though the catch to this unwanted employment is that he has to complete a job he was given incredibly unclear directions on within a limited time frame, as indicated by the brand on his left wrist.

Glass Canon syndrome: As mentioned above thanks to his L’Cie status Hopes got a powerful variety of magic spells including: protective shields, offensive magic (fire, ice, wind, electricity, water) and healing spells he can all cast without tiring himself. Though the magic attacks are powerful, he can't take hits very well without his defensive spells to protect him.

Alexander: An enormous creature: which can only be called upon by Hope alone. Alexander comes to the aide of Hope when summoned but will also appear whenever the boy is lost in an emotional turmoil and will fight him to ‘show him the way’.

Sample Entry:

[Cars, robots, and mechanics all around were something that piqued the young teens interest. Though when he strolled past a 1950’s Packard Clipper he didn’t know what to make of it. The car looked similar to the ones in his world, but so different at the same time. ]

Can’t this hover…? [Hope kneels down to look at the wheels of the vehicle idly before opening the door to the car and plopping himself in the driver’s seat. It was too low so he couldn’t see far past the hood, and the car had a fairly primitive set up… but he was intrigued nevertheless.

A little tinkering of course revealed that while he didn’t have the key to start the ignition, there were other ways of starting the car: Like the wires under the steering wheel. When the engine gave a roar to its awakening Hope grinned and laughed, looking over his shoulder out of habit, to someone he expected to be there.
]

Ah-! I got it!! Hey Light-!! Check it out-!! [ Of course, she wasn’t there. No one was. ]

Oh… Right. [He’ll scratch the back of his head, frowning at his outburst and staring back to the steering wheel of the humming car.]

Len Kagamine | Vocaloid | Not Reserved

[personal profile] roadrolling 2012-01-10 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Name: Lyssie
Personal Journal: [personal profile] fuyu
Contact Info: [plurk.com profile] songofkeys, AIM LadyArdam
Other Characters Played: N/A
Preferred Housing: N/A

Character Name: Len Kagamine
Character Series: Vocaloid
Character Age: Four years chronological, roughly 14-18 apparent
Background: Vocaloid on Wikipedia

Len forms a unit with his counterpart Rin Kagamine; they have the same voice provider, and are sold as one product. Opinions vary on whether they are meant to be siblings, mirror images, or both, but the bottom line is that Rin and Len go together.

As a character, Len's history more or less corresponds to the actual development of Vocaloid, but operating under the conceit that he is an actual, autonomous robot rather than a piece of software. He lives with the other Crypton-created Vocaloids when not singing or working with producers.

Personality: As a Vocaloid, Len's purpose in life is to sing - and Len is perfectly fine with that. He enjoys singing, and really enjoys having fans. It's fair to say he has a bit of an ego: he's very proud of himself, his singing ability, and his popularity. However, he's very sensitive to anything that damages his pride. Some things he can shrug off, like criticism of his voice, but secretly he's very self-conscious about his sound and if he has an off day, or works with a producer who doesn't really know how to handle him, he can get himself into a real snit about it, while blaming everyone and everything except himself. It's not his fault if he sounds bad - it's these lousy producers ruining his cool image! Worst of all, of course, is being referred to as a "shota". Len is a man, and he will thank you to remember that. Len's baseline temperament is fairly low-key, however, and it has to be a fairly serious insult to really get him riled. Otherwise, he's more inclined to whine, grumble, and go off to sulk alone.

He's not all tantrums and moping, though. When his pride isn't being stung, he's generally upbeat and interested in the world around him. It's not as obvious since he spends so much time with the more extroverted Rin, but he's energetic and excitable, and has an irrepressible love of life. His interest in music goes beyond just the singing he was designed for - one of his signature items is a Vocaloid-branded keytar, which he often performs with. He also has real affection and loyalty for his fans; he deeply appreciates their interest, and in turn does his best to please them. Anyone who does Len a good turn will not soon be forgotten. At his best, Len can be gentle and sympathetic, and is willing to help out if someone needs it, particularly if they're family, friends, or fans. Of course, everyone else comes second to him and Rin. He's not so much self-centered as Kagamine-centered: as far as he's concerned, he and Rin are the core of the universe and the best Vocaloids out there. As long as he can sing, and be heard, and be with Rin, Len is happy.

Rin is the absolute center of the world to Len. She understands him better than anyone else, and he understands her. The two of them operate on their own wavelength, and Rin is the only one who can really get away with giving Len a hard time. He tends to fall into a more passive role when he's with her, allowing her to take the lead and drag him along in whatever she decides to do. This is in small part because he knows her temper, but mostly because he trusts her, and is comfortable with leaving things up to her. Without Rin, Len feels incomplete; with her, he can take on the world.

As far as the other Vocaloids are concerned, Len has the most affection for his and Rin's fellow Crypton releases: Meiko, Kaito, Miku, and Luka. These four he regards as beloved, if sometimes exasperating, older siblings (despite Luka technically being younger). This is even true for Miku, whose runaway success Len is envious of, and who he also sees as a rival to be overcome. Outside of the Crypton "family", Len's interest in the other Vocaloids becomes increasingly distant, considering them as something like half-known cousins. He does, ultimately, love his Vocaloid family... but good luck getting him to admit it out loud.

Abilities: Len is an android designed to be an idol singer. In addition to being convincingly humanlike, his body is outfitted with a speaker system and sophisticated audio controls, as well as considerable storage space for music files.

He's also got a pretty cool keytar.

John Watson | Sherlock BBC | reserve expired | 2/2

[personal profile] chez 2012-01-10 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
At first glance – and especially when compared with his friend and colleague, Sherlock – John is a remarkably normal fellow. He is straightforward, practical, and generally amiable, well-versed in social niceties and content enough to observe them. He is polite when it's expected, sarcastic when it's reasonable, awkward when you or I would be. He's intelligent, but not unusually so. If you don't give him much thought, he doesn't stand out.

If you do, you'll find there's a bit more to him than that. John is recently returned from war in Afghanistan, where he served as an army doctor and was injured in battle. He had obvious difficulty returning to civilian life, not because he was haunted by the war, but because he missed its excitement. Life afterward seemed empty, and he grew anxious and distrustful of people, becoming ill to the point of developing psychosomatic pain. As soon as he's thrust into action again, all these things are forgotten-- John becomes brave, active and trusting with startling swiftness and ease. He races through the streets in pursuit of a serial killer on the word of a man he's known for only a day. He thrives in Sherlock's exciting, unsteady world.

You see, when John bonds to someone, he is fiercely loyal. Several characters comment on how ill-advised it is to trust Sherlock, or to dare count oneself as his friend; John is told repeatedly, once or twice by Sherlock himself, that the man has no friends. Still, he endures utterly ridiculous situations and slight verbal abuse with very little complaint, proving himself willing to follow the man into dangerous plans and trust orders he doesn't entirely understand the reasoning behind. He offsets Sherlock nicely, lacking the other man's staggering intellect but far surpassing him in empathy. He diligently points out when Sherlock's done something socially unacceptable, and does his best to steer him in the right direction.

Indeed, despite the detective's flaws, John frequently praises his brilliance when solving cases. This comes as a surprise to Sherlock; most are unnerved or angered by his powers of deduction, whereas John is quite open about it when he's been impressed. He runs a blog (which can actually be found here), reluctantly created at the prompting of his therapist but later maintained with growing enthusiasm, in which he records his adventures with Sherlock. Sherlock notes that he can tell when John is writing about him, because when he does, he writes a lot -- all in a relatively upfront manner, praising and condemning Sherlock's various behaviors without reluctance, despite the fact that Sherlock can read it (and does, and leaves pointed comments). Overall, he tells the story as truthfully as he can, and makes efforts to emphasize Sherlock's more human moments.

Still, there is a hardness to him that doesn't emerge often; John is quite capable in his own right, and not opposed to breaking rules when he thinks it necessary. A very early indication of this is when we see he still has his service pistol-- having been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder by his therapist, and clearly noted to have trust issues, it's rather unlikely he would be allowed to possess the gun legally. When hit, he hits back hard, and cannot easily be pried away from a fight once riled -- indeed, if you touch the right subjects, his temper flares quite abruptly. And, of course, the most obvious and dramatic display of his harsher side is when John shoots a serial killer dead seconds before he murders Sherlock, John making the shot from a separate building and through two windows. He shows little remorse in the aftermath, though Sherlock notes that he waited until a friend was in immediate danger before taking violent action.

All in all, John Watson is a doctor, a soldier, a very tolerant flatmate, and a supremely loyal friend.
Abilities: Nothing inhuman or regain-worthy. He's a skilled doctor and surgeon, and a very good shot with a handgun.

Character Name: Maka Albarn
Character Series: Soul Eater
Character Age: 14
Background: Wiki dat.
Personality:
Typically described as a "nerd" with her nose always in the books, this description... is not too far from the truth. Maka is an extremely motivated and hardworking girl, and this shows through in more than just her grades, although it is notable that she's not only at the top of her class, but claims to enjoy studying and taking tests. Reading is her passion, and she's seen doing it often; it's hinted at that she does it so much, there aren't a whole lot of other activities she participates in (for example, she has no idea how to play basketball, and probably other sports too). When there's something she doesn't understand, her first idea is to grab a book about it; and if she can't find one about the topic, sadly but truthfully she'll only continue to end up lost on the subject. Her biggest driving force behind being so studious, however, is because Maka only wants to live up to her mother's footsteps, who was a seemingly incredible and amazing scythe meister. Her claims to aim for the top of the class was because her mom was as well, although she does actually manage to grab that number one spot and keep herself there.

But when you put aside her bookworm tendencies, Maka does come across as your fairly typical teenager. She has a circle of friends she frequently spends time with, and is generally a personable, bright person with her priorities in the best order she can put them in. Despite her studying habits and assertive behavior, Maka is easy to become friends with; she does have a softer, friendlier side whether she knows you or not, from encouraging new students at Shibusen to do their best or aiding someone in need of a buddy. She has incredible patience with Crona, an enemy turned ally in the middle of battle when it was discovered they never had anyone to love and protect them. Knowing her hobbies, one may expect Maka to not be a very sociable person, but she's actually not as withdrawn as one may think. However, she actually is a serious kind of person, in not just her work ethics but in personality as well; she isn't one to joke or tease too often, and is more likely to sigh at one's silly antics instead of laugh along with them.

Outside of schoolwork, Maka is equally determined in fulfilling her meister duties; "as a student of Shibusen", she'll say, she will even go out of her way to make sure trouble isn't afoot nearby. Maka is very dedicated and loyal to Shinigami, the teachers there, and everything their academy stands for, and doesn't even address any questions directed at their motives from opposing forces. Unsurprisingly, this also makes Maka extremely protective of people, whether they're a friend or an innocent bystander, she is one to always defend humanity when needed. The world needs to be protected at whatever cost, and that's exactly what she does, sometimes at almost drastic levels. If there's one thing Maka is in the admist of a fight, it's a force to be reckoned with; be it your run of the mill serial killer, immortal werewolf or the strongest of witches, she'll go after the enemy no matter who or what it is. A huge contrast from her normally friendly or serious demeanor, an intense fight is prone to bringing out Maka's incredibly fierce side. She'll go in with everything she's got, whether it's enough or not, and more likely than not she has some haphazard methods of going about a mission.

On that note, Maka can actually be very short tempered and hot blooded. Setting her off isn't very difficult-- which some of her friends take advantage of from time to time-- and has little patience regarding some things, mainly when it comes to others lacking common sense or teasing her. She's prone to yelling, hitting, and makes plenty of irrational decisions. Maka's smart, but her choices tend to run on her emotions rather than her logical thinking, which a lot of times does get her into some trouble. Frequently she's an "act first, think later" kind of girl, but does openly admit that's just how she works. Even though Maka holds a high level of confidence and courageousness, she's prone to having insecurities as well. Most of these lie in her ability and skill as a meister, which normally crop up when someone else points it out. She isn't the strongest and she knows this, often admitting that her fellow meisters Kid and Black Star are way ahead of her in terms of strength. Though, she doesn't wallow in her faults for too long; more times than not she can be talked out of these moments, and with a few encouraging words and a voice of reason can get back on track to the task ahead. At the end of the day, Maka's driving force and sheer determination overrides any fault or insecurity she has.

Abilities:
As a weapon meister, Maka is incredibly proficient when it comes to fighting; she doesn't have sheer strength, not like her other friends and teammates do, but she is extremely athletic and has quick reflexes and flexibility to make up for it. However, her fighting style relies heavily on a scythe, so without a pole-like sort of weapon to make up for the lack of her partner should it happen, obviously she wouldn't be able to reach her max capabilities. Nonetheless, Maka is more than able to hold her own in a fight.

Her own ability is something called Soul Perception, a skill that allows her to see and "read" another being's soul (provided that they have one or aren't hiding it, the latter which is possible within SE canon), or even detect one's wavelength from a distance. Because her Perception ability is stronger than most others', she's also able to pick out things like surface level personality traits or strong intentions and feelings. This can be kiiiinda godmodey, so naturally permission will be asked before using it on someone.

This might be considered an ability (even though it's a little moot when taken out of the canon setting), so here goes; Maka also has something called the Anti-Demon Wavelength. It's never specifically addressed what exactly this does (much like her Grigori-type soul), but we do know it's capable of making one extremely resistent to wavelengths of insanity (which is basically stuff that makes you go cray cray).

Locke Cole | Final Fantasy VI 2/2

[personal profile] dynamo_hunter_a 2012-01-10 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Locke is a man who puts others ahead of himself. He will sometimes do this recklessly, when not even knowing the true status of the one he's helping, as he feels it the right thing to do. It has become his own self-appointed job to protect those who need it, especially those of the female status. Locke joined a force against the world's so-called Empire, in hopes of freeing it from the madness that they had intended for them. He strongly denies any manner of government to control the lives of others.

Locke is faithful to his friends, willing to stand up for them if given the chance. He is a man of action. He is against tyranny of any sort and will fight for the freedom of others. While he shows to be very well spoken in his actions, it would be that his hidden past is what helps him in his cause.

While feeling guilty for an accident not of his own fault, he feels at ease in knowing he can be there to help others. If the task is risky, he will be the first to offer aid. He keeps the events of his past locked away from others. He won't openly talk about it, and is hesitant to do so. Losing his girlfriend has left a heavy weight on his heart. Though he's quite the actor, and gives one the impression that he doesn't have a care in the world.

Such guilt happened in his past when he went out for an excursion, and his girlfriend Rachel, tagged not to far behind him. It was his idea to show her something amazing on their small journey. Luck was not with him when a bridge collapsed underneath him and Rachel rushed to shove him to safety. While Locke had escaped unharmed, it was Rachel who had suffered the fall and lost her memory upon awakening. He wanted to remain by her side, but she requested that he leave her and her family alone.

Locke had learned later that she had died in an attack from the Empire. She had uttered his name just moments before her death. While not responsible for her demise, he still felt at fault for leaving in the first place. He later makes it his personal mission to put a stop to the Empire, and help those in need.. and being so attached to Rachel, he learned of a man who was able to keep a body in suspended animation. On his explorations, he also learned of a creature that could revive the dead. He becomes so lost in the idea of bringing Rachel back to life, that he refuses the love of anyone else, and claims to be one who protects others.

The guy has a bit of a mean streak to him though. While he specializes in dexterity and stealth, he is anything but a common thief. In fact, to suggest such a claim will cause Locke's happy go lucky attitude to be replaced with a dark and threatful one. He despises being called a thief for his occupation... as he's not always quick to rob the rich or innocent. Locke likes to think of his work comparable to that of a treasure hunter like his father, and as such, refers to himself as one.

Abilities: Human wise, without the aid of espers... Locke is quite the skilled... treasure hunter. While most view this practice as that of a common thief, he takes serious offense to it. In fact... he'll even threaten you if you don't use the correct term he's looking for. The fellow is quick, nimble, and quite handy with daggers, swords, and is known to throw an occasional boomerang. He's also well skilled in unlocking doors, stealing when you're not looking, and keeping out of sight when he's somewhere he really shouldn't be.

Character Name: French Republic, formerly the Kingdom of France; France; Francis Bonnefoy

Character Age: Approx. 2,000 years; physically 24 (given that he will be from the 1790's)
Background:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_French_history
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hetalia:_Axis_Powers_characters#France
http://hetalia.wikinet.org/wiki/France

NOTE: Given the chosen time period, I would like to make a few notes about the setting from which he has been taken. While it doesn't derail (obviously) the foundations of his personality, as outlined below, I thought it important to note how the world events are affecting him/his behavior/relationships with the other nations.

Here are some resources for better context:

The political instability of the spring of 1794 had the revolution nearing its most fevered pitch (later that year). Not only is the capital of France suffering from starvation and chaos, so is the rest of the nation. In addition, military conflicts between France and Austria, England, Prussia and Spain are putting further strain on the country; combined with awful bureaucratic management, revolutionary and counter-revolutionary factions and the missteps on both ends, France is set in the midst of tense chaos and on the cusp of pivotal change. After the execution of Georges Danton and his associates, Robespierre's hold on power began to waver and events "went as Danton foresaw. The committees presently came to quarrel with the pretensions of Robespierre. Three months after Danton's execution, Robespierre and his party were deposed, and Robespierre was himself executed. His assent to the execution of Danton had deprived him of the single great force that might have supported him against the committee." ('Georges Danton' Wiki article)

France himself will be slightly more subdued than usual and far more driven, far more focused than his modern personality. Given that the culture is on the edge of radical change and being torn in different directions, he himself bearing the physical, mental and emotional affects of it, Francis will be somewhat suspicious and, needless to say, will most likely go under a brief period of shock after having been brought into the game. He worries where his future lies, finds himself torn between where his people want to lead him, horrified and simultaneously accepting of the suffering of his citizens. He will be, to put it simply, and as an understatement, somewhat unstable.

Personality: France is a diverse and fascinating nation with a long and rich history. That's how I would start a paper on the history of the nation itself, but luckily you don't have to read that.

No, much more entertaining when not speaking in an academic context is the embodiment of the French nation, Francis Bonnefoy. He also might be a bit terrifying, given enough thought, but I digress.

At first glance, you're basically getting what you see. France is haughty, prideful, narcissistic and extremely vain--though these are softened (not lessened) by his affectionate demeanor. Don't bother glancing a second and third time because you will get the same at each passing. The thing about him is that he values himself much more than he probably ought to and this saturates his personality completely. Military failure is seen by him as a series of jokes played on him by God. Should rejection, failure or humiliation occur, most often France takes the self doubt and awareness of his faults and stuffs these underneath his proverbial subconscious rug. By this point in time, he is feeling his empire unraveling and one would think that the political unrest in France during the latter half of the 18th century would be taking their toll on his health and state of being (more on that later).

France is also extremely passionate, and that is an enormous understatement. Anything beautiful will capture his eyes and heart and he will not let it go of it--unless he deems it as too much trouble. That pride and selfishness that comes from being a nation is amplified with his... extensive appreciation... for the aesthetically pleasing. If he sees something (or someone) he wants, he will go after it with little or no hesitation at all. Personal space? No such thing. Extreme affection? The more the better. Male or female? Not a problem! Exploring the maze of heartfelt romance and, well, to put it bluntly, getting laid--he is shameless about these things. Expressing the beauty of art or one's naked body are synonymous for him.

With positive passion comes the negative side of it. That is to say that, yet again, his pride can be and is very blinding. This passion can also fuel France's over-dramatic nature, his self denial and his rivalries. He will inevitably make decisions based on his whims and emotions, even if he is not a brainless idiot--an assessed situation acted upon emotionally is most likely going to end up very badly. Think of graduating college with perfect marks. You spend ages looking your absolute best for a party and because you want to do something nice for yourself, you drink too much; the next thing you know, you're awake in a bathtub full of ice minus one kidney and oh guess what, your people have had enough of your monarchy and they're marching on Versailles. It's at this point from which I take him in the midst of the infamous 1789 Revolution, wherein he must rearrange his priorities.

When under duress, France may panic and make a terrible decision. In fact, that's very likely. He may also make a rash decision in the heat of the moment even if he, for all intents and purposes, believes it's the absolute only or best option for him to take. Doing what he must to survive even if the road is an unpleasant one to travel is exactly how he lives his life despite the possible personal risk. Is he aware of world situations? Yes. Have especially unpleasant events made him bitter, as they would any other nation? Yes. But! Is he a master at navigating that one river in Egypt? Very yes, and it's not quite the denial but the way it manifests itself so selfishly and so flamboyantly that really adds so much particular flavor to his personality; how he sees the world and how he operates within it.
Even with all of this, though, he can be cool, calm and collected. In fact, his pride and passion come together in a very knowing, suave and confident manner. If he flirts with a woman, for example, he isn't trying to seduce her. He just will. That's the mindset many of his actions/behaviors stem from and what motivates him.

On the other side of the emotional coin, France's status as an older nation has given him a brotherly demeanor, or so he'd like to think. He envisions himself as a familial--brotherly or fatherly--figure to the other nations. Toward notable figures in history, such as Joan of Arc and his leaders, France holds great respect and affection. As much as he loves beauty, France considers loyalty dear to his heart as well. In the series he refers to himself as everyone's big brother and he goes to lengths to emphasize that 'status.' Regardless of his infatuation with other nations and sexual harassment he honestly does think of himself as an older brother; wise, dashing, protective, philosophical, in his mind.

Regarding the less appealing relationships in France's life, he can be incredibly stubborn. Centuries of fighting, leading and existing in such a pivotal area in Europe have solidified that part of him permanently. The instability of the Revolution is something he will be dealing with. In the long run he values himself as a nation above all others in canon. That side clashes beautifully with his brother complex and makes for a very colorful personality. Still, France isn't incapable of conducting himself diplomatically when absolutely necessary. It does help that he can and will sit back and evaluate, also when he must. This is certainly the case in his time period in which he is settled on the peak of great but bloody change. It's his vehement tenacity, as well as his love for life, that keep him in a central role as a nation, even after so long on the world stage.

Abilities: France is the physical embodiment of a nation. What does that mean? It means he's had a lot of experience in love, war, cooking--and a variety of other interests. It also means that whatever happens within the landmass, state and people of France will actually affect Francis' physical state (economic trouble = illness, war and/or dissent = pain or even injury).
Also important regarding his 'immortality'--physical injuries sustained aside from direct effects of events in the world at large affect him far less and heal rapidly. It's a weird and fine line, but suffice it to say that France's physical tolerance is far higher than that of your typical human. Other than that, there's nothing particularly remarkable, physically speaking. He bleeds like everyone else, just ask England.

Character Name: Conan Edogawa | Kudo Shinichi
Character Series: Detective Conan
Character Age: 7 | 17
Background:

http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/wiki/Conan_Edogawa
http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/wiki/Shinichi_Kudo

Shinichi is the son of the retired actress Yukiko Kudo and best selling mystery novelist Yuusaku. Even at a young age Shinichi had a hunger for mysteries that just could not be satisfied as he spent most of his days as a child locked in a library with a mystery book of some kind. When he wasn't off looking for neighborhood mysteries with his friend Ran Mouri then it was safe to assume he was in the Kudo library. His favorite Detective, of course, is non other than Sherlock Holmes. Meanwhile, Shinichi managed to get acquainted to crimes scenes as his father started to help the police out on particularly difficult cases and Shinichi would sometimes tag along. He has not yet managed to beat his dad as a detective but he might one day.

At age fourteen his childish parents up and decided to move to L.A. while Shinichi chose to stay in Japan, most likely because he wanted to stay with Ran. From Fourteen to sixteen Shinichi built up quite a number of solved cases and became known as the famous High School Detective and savior of the Japanese police since he could easily work through any case laid out before him. At some point while he was sixteen his friend won the regional karate championship and as a reward he promised to take her to tropical land. He was a very busy detective at the time and his cases continued to push his plans back but eventually he found time to go to the amusement park where his life would change forever.

While out with Ran there is a grisly murder that occur on the same roller coaster Shinichi, Ran, and two suspicious guys in black just so happen to be riding. Shinichi quickly solves the murder and makes a mental note of the guy's in black considering them suspicious but not the culprits in the current case. Later, while trying to console Ran about not letting cases affect her, he notices one of the men from before stalking around a bush behind the ferris wheel. He breaks away from Ran and promises to catch up with her later before tailing after the guy. He stops just out of view of the man in shades and watches huge black mail transaction right before his eyes, making plans to report he saw as pulls out a camera for photographic evidence.

Unfortunately, Shinichi is still very much a child and he forgot a very important fact that he should have remembered and might have actually saved him from the fate that was to become of him. There had been two people on that roller coaster he'd marked as suspicious so when the other snuck up behind him there wasn't much hope for the poor detective and he was struck over the head. Because of murder case from earlier, the two men decide not to bother with guns as neither has a silencer and make the decision to test a previously untested poison on him. They pop a small pill into his mouth and poor water down his throat before quickly making their escape and leaving him for dead.

The detective has a stroke of luck, however, as their poison does not kill him and instead he has a very rare reaction to the poison and ends up shrinking to the size of a small six year old boy. The transformation is much less than painless and even Shinichi feels like he's dying as he passes out. When he comes too, Shinichi quickly realizes that everything around him seems much bigger. He hasn't quite realized what's happened to him and becomes naturally suspicious of the officers referring to him as a little boy. He escapes the officers shortly after getting a look in the mirror and seeing with his own eyes something that should have been physically impossible. He rushes home and tries to unlock his front gate finds that it's impossible as now he is just too short. He manages to convince a family friend and his neighbor, Professor Agasa that he's the High School Detective and the two quickly agree that it would be best to hide his identity.

Immediately after the decision is made, Ran Mouri comes looking for Shinichi and finds the little boy, who had quickly shoved on a pair of his dad's old glasses, instead. The girl is completely fooled by the makeshift disguise and scoops him into a hug before pressing him for a name. The name he gives is a mix of two of his favorite writers since they happened to be right next to each other on the book shelf he was standing right in front of- Conan Edogawa.

Agasa convinces Ran to take 'Conan' home with her and tells Shinichi that he should look for leads at her house since her dad is a detective. Shinichi agrees and follows his best friend home only to discover her father is probably the laziest detective he's ever met and through the use of a few handy gadgets quickly transforms the man into a famous detective.

Apart from Agasa several others are aware for Conan identity. His parents, another high school detective and his best friend, Heiji Hattori, Kaitou Kid (an infamous thief) and an ex member of the organization that shrunk him.

Personality:

Shinichi is a detective that never takes a break. Even if he's not on a case he frequently finds himself curious about the people he comes in contact with. He is always using his detective skills to figure out someone's profession or where they were five minutes before he met them. When solving a case he focuses on one thing- He doesn't generally care about the people involved in the case as long as he figures out what happened, why it happened and how to prove it happened or prove who did it so that he can bring that one truth to light.

Murder and the most bizarre cases are his favorite kinds as he generally has little to no interest in thieves and finds adultery cases to be stupid and a waste of his time. He also isn't fond of kidnapping but he will take a case like it if it's brought to him. When solving cases, most people make the assumption that Shinichi is out for justice. That is not entirely accurate as he is mainly out for fun. He is a teenager after all, and he looks at his cases like a puzzle- cat and mouse. He doesn't usually give a damn about the victims of the murderers which is obvious since he's not affected by most crime scenes. He's seen bodies hacked to pieces and only casually mentioned this to his best friend, telling her he doesn't let the job effect him. He is out for justice in some senses to the word, but mostly he's out to solve the really complex puzzles which is why he likes the really complex cases that baffle the police. Especially locked-rooms murders.

Being the son of a retired actress he has a love for theatrics and loves to play out the drama of a situation and make a big show of his deductions. He loves to start from the beginning and go over every aspect of the case to keep his audience guessing until he finally reveals the culprit. He intentionally leaves out the most crucial detail of his accusations just to bait the culprit into demanding he show the proof. Which, he has no trouble doing.

He may be a capable detective and share almost all the traits of a classic detective but he has his faults such as his impatience and the biggest one being his recklessness. Even if it's all a game to him there is one aspect for the puzzle that he takes very seriously and that is a life. If he can stop it he will, if he thinks he can stop a murder he will try, even if it puts him danger. He has been known to run off without warning and usually right into danger. Nothing he can’t handle however, as long as he ‘s got his trusty kick shoes and belt, or even the wrist watch can get him out of a bind.

Shinichi is what you would call a mystery freak. This doesn’t change between when he’s Shinichi and when he’s Conan. He has read the series Sherlock Holmes more times then he can probably count. He’s been to a Holmes convention, had to take thousand question test and most likely, got a perfect score on it. The Kudo library is filled from floor to ceiling with mystery books and it’s an easy bet to say he’s read every last one of them.

Before shrinking, Shinichi was a very arrogant, spoiled rich boy. He was under the belief he’s the best thing since sliced bread and his attitude towards others made this very apparent. As Shinichi, he could move around crime scenes freely and didn't need any help while conducting an investigation. Now that he's stuck as the grade-schooler Conan Edogawa that has changed drastically. He has to watch how he words things and basically lead the adults to the right answers. It can be very annoying but through it he's learned a few social skills and also how to be a manipulative little brat if he makes just the right expressions.

It’s less noticeable as Shinichi, but Conan seems to have problems tolerating people who are less then intelligent. It’s seen most often when he’s talking to the Shounen tantei dan ( a group of kids that have adopted Conan as their friend), or if someone has just said something more on the dumb side.

While Mysteries usually have his undivided attention there is a part of him that is still a normal teenager; Ran. Ran Mouri is Shinichi’s childhood friend and love interest. He’s so hung up over her that his love for her truly deserves it’s own part in his personality. He admires Ran’s strength and compassion above all other things about her and truly sees her as the most important person in the world. He would do anything for her. Even as Conan, his love for her hasn’t changed, even though they live together. He hates having to lie about his identity to her but he’d rather she stayed safe. If Ran ends up in danger Conan gets reckless and all the intelligence he holds tends to go down the drain.

Abilities: Shinichi purely human and, aside from shrinking hasn't even had a brush with the supernatural- he refuses to believe it exists. However, he does have one ability and that's his intelligence. The kid is like a sponge and is always willing to learn new things as he takes a very different stance than Sherlock Holmes when it comes to keeping up with certain subjects. Holmes believes that he only needs to learn about subjects that would be useful to him as a detective while Shinichi is under the impression that there is no telling what might be relevant in a case and makes it a point to soak up all the knowledge he can.

Character Name: Fran Madaraki
Character Series: Franken Fran
Character Age: Late teens
Background: wiki on Fraken Fran

Personality:

What you see is what you get with Fran Madaraki. Sure, she’s aware that she looks like the creation of the modern Frankenstein but that doesn’t faze her in the slightest. Fran is proud to be one of the byproducts of Dr. Naomitsu Madaraki and is committed to advancing his life’s work. Not being brought into this world inorganically, there is a slight detachment between her and the rest of society. Even though Fran fortunately is not shunned by the rest of the world, there is no real aim for societal acceptance. She goes to school not to be a part of society but to have a better understanding of the human condition. Contrary to her passive attitude however she upholds a strong ethical obligation to preserve life. It’s the reason why she disapproves of her little sister, Veronica to go off on her “killing sprees”. But let’s talk about her “code of ethics” for a minute…

For Fran, preservation of organic life presupposes scientific advancement. While Veronica was created to protect Dr. Madaraki’s work, her hands are meant to not harm others. Even though her experiments do bend (and break) the Hippocratic Oath, she’s fully committed to solving medical conundrums. She is the kind of scientist that is in it to further progress science as opposed to making large amounts of profits. Sure, the operations she conducts may be a bit pricey but she understands if someone really can’t afford it, especially in cases of medical urgency.

Though Fran is a genius that is unlike by any other but she doesn’t let that get all to her head. Fran doesn’t think she is above everyone else nor does she look down upon others. It’s quite the opposite; Fran gets along well with others and is more than willing to cooperate with her fellow colleagues and/or peers. She’s also the type that doesn’t bask in the success in her work. Fran will just solve one problem, help a client then move on.

While she does inherit leadership qualities, Fran is the kind of person that would be okay to work behind the scenes and not get any credit for it. Even as far as someone literally taking her work, Fran wouldn’t have any qualms or hard feelings about it. She looks at it as an opportunity to retrieve data from a different variable and control. In general, it’s really difficult to anger Fran. You might see her slightly miffed when she catches Veronica killing robbers but it’s rare to see her lose her cool. Even in moments of peril, Fran will take them on with a cool head on her shoulders.

Fran does come off as aloof but she has her emotional moments every now and then. When it comes to human relationships, she has a real soft-spot for them especially when it deals with ~true love~! It’s probably the only time you see her bask in the success of her work whether it’s reuniting a family together or bringing lovers closer together (literally or figuratively). Fran has a tendency romanticize romance. The thought of helping a couple makes her heart flutter. If she’s taking a breaking from her work, you would probably find her sitting back, drinking a cup of tea and reading a cheesy romance novel.

Abilities:

✗ Detachable Limbs →

Fran has the ability to off parts of her body from her head to her toes. To make her surgical operations efficient, she likes to attach two more arms onto her torso.

✗ Genius Knowledge of Biology and Medical Science →

Fran can do just about anything with science by her side. She can give a tummy tuck, make you literally look 20-years younger, turn burned flesh into baby-soft skin. But there's a big risk that comes along with it. Sure, she is capable of ressurecting the dead but that doesn't mean that person is coming back in one piece. One moment the person can be dead and then the next moment they're alive but their head is now attached to the body of a golden retriever.

Character Name: Souren Araya
Character Series: Kara no Kyoukai
Character Age: He looks around late 30s-40s.
Background: http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Araya_Souren
Personality: Araya, at first glance, seems to be a cold, insensitive man who has little sympathy for others. He carries an oppressive aura around him and Aozaki Touko has even described him as a “man of hell”. When speaking with others, Araya keeps a deep, stern voice that exudes nothing but absolute seriousness. Araya is overall a person that not too many people would want to deal with during their leisurely time. His appearance and tone of voice is reflected through his actions and how single-minded he seems towards achieving his goals, even after admitting that he has long forgotten what it is that he wants.

His Origin, the “starting point that defines one's existence and directs one's actions throughout life”, is Stillness. Araya is noted to be stubborn and confident. If there was something that Araya was set on accomplishing, then he would not stop until he achieves it. Araya stands at a point in his life where he cannot regress or progress. Since two-hundred years ago, Araya's goals have not shifted once, reflecting his Origin of Stillness. Nothing can shake him from his efforts, yet at the same time, this makes his actions clumsy and flawed. Araya may be slow at learning new things, but he can continue to improve what he already knows to unimaginable lengths.

Araya's ultimate goal like many of the magi in the Nasuverse is to find a way into the Spiral of Origin or Akasha. While he claims in the novels that he has forgotten what it is that he wishes for, his motives for trying to reach Akasha is to witness the ultimate end of humanity. Araya, while his methods may be brutal and he might be willing to kill dozens of people to achieve his ends, strives for this in order to make sense of the countless, meaningless deaths in human history. He mourns how in his first lifetime, he was able to do anything to save anybody. If nobody can be saved, he reasons, then he could at least find their reasons for dying. Araya, however, would be satisfied even if he learned that this is because humans are at their very core stupid. All he wants is an answer and even if he should add to the amount of lives being snuffed out, he will find Akasha and make it so that their lives did not end in vain.

Throughout Kara no Kyoukai, Araya's actions seem to be self-serving. He gave Kirie Fujou a second body, healed Fujino Asagami's spine, and awakened Lio Shirazumi to his Origin of consumption partly because they believed they could help him fool the Counter Force, but also because he genuinely pitied them. While he served his own goals as well, he healed their wounds and gave them new lives when their old ones seemed hopeless. He regards Fujino and Kirie successes, but Lio a failure for falling deep into madness, but he specifically chose them because of sympathy. Araya deeply cares for people, but still regards them as stupid creatures, capable of killing themselves for the pettiest of reasons.

Souren Araya | Kara no Kyoukai

Abilities: Araya is a magus of few talents, but his greatest skill lies with the creation of Bounded Fields, barriers that surround a piece of land to protect everything inside. While normally they are unable to move, the ones that Araya create can. He personally carries with him a Bounded Field called Rokudou Kyoukai, a three layered barrier that is both able to hide his presence and freeze in place anything that might try to enter it instantly. Araya is able to use Rokudou Kyoukai as a weapon this way and use it to deflect attacks as well.

His “masterpiece” is a bounded field called Hounouden Rokujyuyonshou. Anything that it surrounds becomes a part of Araya's internal world and more or less a part of his own body. He is given the ability to teleport through walls, send projections of his mind to different locations, and give himself the power to regenerate. Araya becomes aware of everything that happens within his bounded field. Although people may enter it freely, their actions become something that Araya can easily monitor as long as he is inside it as well. Araya also has the power to destroy the building that Hounouden Rokujyuyonshou if he chooses.

Araya has achieved a certain level of immortality and was able to live for centuries. He has the remains of Buddha grafted into his left arm and even after his limbs have been sliced apart, he can put himself back together just as easily. The only true way to defeat Araya is through a fight of endurance where both sides continue attacking each other with everything they have. Instant kill attacks do nothing against him.

Araya has the power to see others' Origins as well and should they comply, he can awaken them. From then on, a person has no choice but to follow his Origin through impulsive commands as if they were absolute orders. Anybody awakened to their Origin, however, can achieve greater physical and magical powers than somebody who hasn't. Shirazumi Lio became capable of achieving superhuman feats and regrow lost limbs with his Origin of consumption awakened, but what sort of powers that a person receives varies.

He is also capable of magecraft that other magi can accomplish such as healing or creating a second, metaphysical body among other talents, but overall, Araya has little talents beyond those that are close to his creation of Bounded Fields. Beyond his magical prowess, though, Araya is skilled with martial arts and his strength is above average enough to be able to tear apart a person's head from their neck or pierce through a person's back and chest with his arm.

Other Characters Played: The RED Engineer, Tara, Figaro, and Commander Shepard
Preferred Housing: I've asked the BLU Spy/RED Sniper mun for permission for housing with either of her characters. I've yet to receive confirmation yet, but I've asked her to reply here if she's alright with it. If not, then I'm fine with wherever you put her.

Character Name: BLU Scout Mama, aka Judy Ann McCann (nee Adams)
Character Series: Team Fortress 2
Character Age: 38
Background: Tiny bit here. Seeing as there is so little about her, here's some headcanon about the BLU Scout's mum.
Judy had a relatively normal life. She grew up in Boston with her parents, went to school, made friends, and fell in love. Unfortunately, said man that she fell in love with was a big douche. Sure, everything was sunshine and rainbows when they were dating, but things changed when she found out that she was pregnant and they got married to avoid the scandal. He basically just never stayed faithful to her; there was always a rumor floating around here and there about what he did with Mary at the malt shop, or the little show he put on with Jill at the park, or even with his secretary last Tuesday when he claimed that he had to work late. He was successful, yes, and he always made sure that she at least had just enough money to run the house and live comfortably, but whether he loved her or not is something she would never figure out. Maybe he just married her because he felt guilty, or maybe he wanted to keep his good name intact. Whatever his reason, she learned really quick that she could not count on him to be a good husband.
What he was though, was a good father. Judy seemed blessed (or cursed, depending on who's opinion you were using) with the uncanny luck of having twins and triplets. Her first pregnancy bore triplets, her second came with the twins just a year after, and two more children were adopted from her friend who passed on early in live; coincidentally, they were twins too. It's not surprising that at 18, when she had her final child Nathaniel, she decided eight was more than enough. And to the eight children, her husband was nothing but a great dad. He was always around for every occasion; always there to help them with their homework, teach them baseball, bandage up a cut knee...it was his great love and affection for his kids that convinced Judy to stay, even if she herself would never be entirely happy with her situation. He was a flop of a husband, but he was a fantastic father, and that was what her children needed more than anything else. And at least he was polite and treated her well. It was for from a perfect situation, but she learned to deal with it.
All this changed eight years after her marriage, when he was killed in a bad accident. He worked hard to provide for her and the family, there was some money saved up and left in a will, and her parents offered as much support as possible, but she suddenly found herself in the position of taking care of eight kids and being the sole breadwinner of the family. It wasn't easy being a single mom back then, but no one wanted to marry a woman with so many kids. It was either she drop some of them, or she keep all of them and go on without marriage. She chose the latter, and never looked back. Taking a job as a waitress in a restaurant, she worked long and hard hours to make enough to put food on the table and keep the rent payments up. However, this made it hard for her to raise her children properly, and as such while they grew up with a loving mother, they also grew up without a mother to guide them properly.
But if there was one thing she taught all the boys, it was that they were all family. She made sure they stuck through school, but the moment they finished with it, most of the boys quickly found jobs to help out their mother. Sons number three and five were the only ones who wanted to get a degree at college, so the rest of them immediately chipped in to ensure that those two could afford to go. It really made life easier for Judy with five sons working, and she found that she could take some time off from work to spend it with her children instead. So she didn't think anything was strange when Nathaniel came home one day, claiming he had a job that involved a lot of running and that would pay well. She didn't believe him at first until he sent the first paycheck home.
That's also when a mysterious man started showing up around the place she worked. He always wore a mask and that drew sniggers and weird looks from others, but he was polite, and he tipped well. She really didn't mind. And he was French...and he started talking to her. And she replied back. That was the start of her relationship with the RED Spy, and she can honestly say that she's fallen in love again. She's told Sons one to seven, and she had been writing a letter to Nathaniel to explain when she was pulled into Mayfield.

Personality:
One word to describe Judy: motherly. Say what you want about her, but she loves her children more than anything else in the world. She gave up her chance for college, a better marriage, and an easier life, for her eight sons. It didn't matter that two of them were adopted either; she cared for them all the same, and she made sure that if there was one thing she taught the boys it was to always look out for each other, no matter what.
She's also a very strong woman. Judy is tough, and she does not break easily. When she first found out about her husband's many extra-marital affairs, she had opted to not divorce him out of fear that this would affect her sons. But still, it's hard knowing that your husband is out seeing another woman while you're pregnant. Judy merely took it all in stride and bore with it; as far as she could see, he was a good father, and although he could not stay faithful to her, he did not just abandon her either. If life gives you lemons, you make lemonade, even if they're bitter lemons. When she became a single mother fighting to keep her children fed, she merely bore the burden and carried on. Never once did she opt for the easy way out. It is very hard to get Judy to the point where she will break down and cry; to her eight sons, she is the pinnacle of strength, simply because she has never let anything tear her down.
Courage is something she has in abundance as well. She has stared down gangsters threatening her sons, ignored the scandalized whispers from society, and she won't be afraid to speak out if she feels strongly about an issue, no matter who you are. Her parents sadly shake their head and call her blunt; she says she's just honest. Judy is very straightforward, and this, tied with her bravery, has often lead to her being very confrontational. The only time she showed restraint was with her husband, but yet again, this was only to ensure her sons would always have a loving father in the picture.
Lastly, Judy is unfortunately a bit blur and naive in regards to things that aren't ordinary. She adores the RED Spy, partly because he is French. She finds that charming, but is often lost when he makes references to his culture. She also misses the occasional worried glances her other seven sons give to each other in regard to Nathaniel's job; unlike her, they've been able to piece together enough to figure out that his job isn't as simple as picking up packages and dropping them. You need to show her the evidence right in her face before she understands. She learned the hard way about her husband's nightly flings with other girls when her own parents had to show her the pictures.

Abilities: She's a fantastic mom. Cooking, cleaning, sewing, washing, she can do it all! Other than that though, she's just a normal human.
