Applications

• Please read over all the rules and information before applying in order to minimize any confusion before joining.

• If applying for a character that has already been dropped, it would be a good idea, though not required, to know something of their previous interactions. You are also free to pick up a dropped character with no memories of their previous time in Mayfield.

• All content for the personality and sample entry in your app must be written or roleplayed by you; for the personality section in particular, we do not accept copied text from wikis or other sources. Obviously, you may not copy your app from other players, whether in Mayfield or other games. Application plagiarism will result in a ban from the game.

• If you wish for your character to be placed in a specific house, please mention this in the relevant section of the application and specify that permission was obtained by the PCs already residing in that house. We will be operating by the Honor System for this, and there is no need for others to comment their permission in this post!

• Other special requests would also best go in the beginning of the application. Remember, grammar and spelling are important -- if your app contains errors, you will be asked to revise.

• Please post all applications or canon updates in this post; posting them elsewhere and linking to them from here may cause them to get changed later. Posting them here keeps us from having to save them.

When Applying, Fill Out the Following:

When Applying for an Original Character, Fill Out the Following

• Before applying, please look over any applications that were recently accepted to get an idea of what we're looking for.

• If you apply for a character that has already been reserved, we will inform you and ignore the application until the reserve runs out. You may not apply for more than two characters from the same canon. For the sample entry, you may write your own entry, or use a post from a musebox, dressing room, or other game. We recommend [community profile] testrun_box if you prefer the latter!

• After you're accepted, please follow all of the instructions given. You will need to reply to the acceptance, post your journal to the friend add page and your canon post, join the communities, and use the friend add page to update your journal. Once you're accepted, please introduce yourself on the community when you're ready to play.

• If your app is "Pending", do not freak out! This means that we need you to make some revisions, and does not mean you're rejected. We generally give players a chance to revise before rejecting them, but we will reject apps that do not address the concerns stated when we asked for a revision. If you have been rejected, our reply will clearly state this to be the case. If we have not gotten back to you yet, under no circumstance does this mean you are rejected. If it has been over a week since our last reply, it would be a good idea to contact us with a reminder, otherwise, please be patient!

• If you have received a "Pending" notice, you will have one week to supply us with your revisions, or your reserve will be considered expired and that someone else is free to apply for the character.

• The typical wait for a reply on apps may be anywhere from a day to a little over a week. If any part of your application requires a pending, it may be another week after your reply to that before we can get to you. We process a high volume of apps every round, so please be patient.

If you have not heard back on a pending for over a week after apps close, please send a PM directly to the mod account.

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED.

Ema Skye | Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney | No reserve

Name: Korii
Personal Journal: [personal profile] asondeiru
Contact Info: AIM and Plurk: koriinchan
Other Characters Played: N/A
Preferred Housing: If you could pair her up with Edward Nigma, that'd be supergreat. Steve and I have discussed this.

Character Name: Ema Skye
Character Series: Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
Character Age: 25
Background: Here. She will also be retaining memories of her time at Mayfield prior to this.

[personal profile] glowing_skye 2012-08-04 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: When someone first encounters Ema, he or she is likely to write her off as a grumpy, moody twenty-something who takes out her frustrations on other people. In many ways, that person would be absolutely right. Ema finds it easier to sulk, glower, snap, and hurl tiny snack projectiles than to try and adequately express emotions such as anger, insecurity, and hurt. When dealing with people who don’t hold her attention, she has a tendency to simply ignore their existence; when dealing with people she actively dislikes, she’s likely to become hostile. In the end, it’s little more than a defense mechanism, designed to force people to keep their distance until she’s really ready to let them in. Her two years in Mayfield has tempered this tendency somewhat--they're not going to get anywhere if they don't cooperate--but she's still more than capable of prickly behavior.

Ema has a healthy disdain toward showy people—she condescendingly refers to Klavier Gavin (her cooperating prosecutor) as “glimmerous.” In her professional life, she much prefers to deal with people who are calm, cool, and collected (“simmerous,” by her own vernacular). Considering her fangirling over admiration for Miles Edgeworth in her appearances at age 16 and 18, respectively, she seems to prefer this type in her interpersonal life as well, or at least in a prospective romantic partner. (Of course, what she prefers is not necessarily where she ends up; her current (Mayfield) relationship is with Edward Nigma, who is perhaps the showiest person she's ever met. It's a relationship filled with pushing, pulling, disdain, and affection. Somehow, this works.)

Beyond the grumpiness, Ema is actually capable of warmth and friendly behavior. If she feels comfortable enough, she does know how to let go and actually enjoy herself. Generally, she’s more open around her friends and family, although many of them are not quite exempt from fits of temper. People she openly admires (e.g. Miles Edgeworth) are likely to receive unbridled admiration from her; age has tempered the tendency toward hero-worship down quite a bit, but not entirely. Alcohol is a good way to get her to loosen up in circumstances outside her close social circle (it’s not seen in canon, but this picture suggests that might be the case).

However, the most prominent aspect of Ema’s personality is science. Science is the love of Ema’s life—just the very mention of it brings a light to her eyes. Her love for forensic science is great enough that she purchases kits over the Internet and carries out scientific investigations at crime scenes when the forensic team isn’t around to stop her. It’s a love she’s willing to share with pretty much everyone, regardless of whether anyone is actually interested. It goes without saying that appealing to Ema’s scientific interests is the most effective way to bypass her otherwise sour behavior.

Just after Ema’s love of science is her love for Snackoos. She keeps a stash with her at all times and will pull them out to munch when she’s bored, irritated, or trying to ignore someone/something; how she’s not overweight from the near-constant snacking is a mystery.

Abilities: Science! And a damn good metabolism! And hurling small projectiles at people with deadly accuracy!

Seriously, Ema is canonically above-average in her proficiency with science, despite having failed the test to become a forensic scientist (probably due in large part to her inability to draw correct conclusions to her scientific observations). Considering her dependence on Luminol for investigation in both of her AA appearances, the vials peeking out of her purse, and her chemical threat (Hydroxyacelunodosetrase, which she describes as “experimental”) to Apollo Justice in game four, chemistry seems to be Ema’s strongest scientific area. Ema’s also relatively technology-savvy, considering how high-tech scientific investigation has become… which is essentially useless in a setting like Mayfield, but might be good for a few regains.

Sample Entry: Here and here.

Aigis | Persona 3 | Reserved | Wow I lost half my app thar

Name: Justyne
Personal Journal: [personal profile] segues
Contact Info: AIM: BattleToasters | [plurk.com profile] coffeerocket

Preferred Housing: N/A

Character Name: Aigis
Character Series: Persona 3
Character Age: Appears to be 15/16, has the mind of a 15/16 year old, has been active for roughly three years, has existed for 11
Background: Wiki
Personality: Aigis is a canonly robot, yes. You will see more than one person portray her as nothing but a robot, all the USB cords and data ports included. Personally, I think this completely contradicts the game and you will not ever see me focus on her being on a robot. There, the elephant in the room is out of the way.

That is not to say, of course, that Aigis didn’t begin the game as hugely, painfully robotic. Her speech style was formal, her voice was monotone. And her personality was… basically that of your kitchen toaster, if your toaster had a complex over a high school boy named Minato. (If your toaster also happens to be an antishadow weapon, you might very well know what I’m talking about, if not, imagine it having guns and summoning creatures from the depths of its mind and you’ve got Aigis as of July, 2010.)

But through the course of the game, Aigis grows, as characters in 100+ hour games are wont to do. She becomes quiet, almost shy, curious to the point of awkwardness and goes all-around soft, by robot standards, by the end of the Journey. I’m certain other video game robots are ashamed of her.

I’ll begin by going over her fierce loyalty. Aigis is fiercely loyal. Her entire point in the game revolves on how desperate she is to protect Minato. She sneaks into his room at night, follows him around at school, and begs for Minato to take her into Tartarus. Her sole purpose, in her mind, is to be with him. And that means anyone who gets in the way, or is a potential threat to Minato, is going to be shot down early on by the bot (haha, shot down. I made a joke). A great example is the emergence of Ryoji Mochizuki ([spoiler] the perverted, humanoid form of Death [/spoiler]), whom she claims is dangerous with her super death-sensing skills that seemed to be missing when she first met Minato… considering he was housing death at the time. She hates him with a passion, and what she hates even more (though this is more prominent in the manga) is the time he spends with Minato. When Minato is summoned to battle Nyx, Aigis tries to force herself to accompany to him to the point where her parts begin to fall off. She’s with him at his last moments on the roof, and chooses to live her life helping others find a way to live… and therefore protecting Minato. Again. Really, it’s kind of ridiculous how obsessed she is.

Even when it’s not Minato, she’s always caring about her friends. When they forget her after fighting Nyx, it tears her apart--knowing she would do anything for them, and they'd forgotten everything they'd done together. Learning that Minato actually remembered her nearly brought her to tears. In the Answer, upon being disabled when Metis is about to kill Ken, she manages to exert a totally new ability to protect the rest of SEES—and show off that she now has the powers of the Wild Card. She’s reluctant to fight against the others, though forced. Even with Minato gone, Aigis still does everything for the ones she cares about. Despite having no will to live, she leads the team in order to protect them all, when it’s obvious she’d rather just chill in her room and cry for a while.

That determination is present in, it would seem, everything she does. She really seems as if she belongs in Gurren Lagann half the time because: Impossible? Surpassed. Reason? Kicked to the curb (in its face, no less. Probably while naked). Reprogrammed to murder everyone she loves? NO BIGGIE, AIGIS GOT THIS. Robots can’t cry? NOW THEY CAN. Robots can’t really be alive? BEEN THERE, DONE THAT. Aigis’ entire body has short circuited, leaving what should be a burnt-out shell of a bot? MORNIN’ GUYS, WHAT’D I MISS? Everything she does she does with 500% effort. And she rarely fails. About the only thing she can’t do is bring Minato back to life—but that’s because she’s got moral obligations not to.

Despite this, Aigis is also clueless, giving her a sort of childish innocence that makes everyone else in the room tense up. Having been active for a total of maybe a full year (and that’s pushing it), Aigis doesn’t understand most of the world. Hence why she sneaks into Minato’s bedroom, wakes him up five minutes early and doesn’t understand why he seems a little confused by a girl-shaped robot standing over him. She also makes some hilarious remarks comparing clothing to camouflage, and (alas, only in P3P, though I can imagine she fails just as hard in FES) cannot seem to grasp the idea of a water gun. She sometimes does things that would seem mean or insulting (like repetitively telling Ryoji he is dangerous), but she honestly doesn’t understand what’s wrong with it.

Aigis is just generally nice. She helps find missing cats, treats her friends and teammates well and wants to save people from thinking their lives are worthless. In fact, she’s made it her freaking purpose in life. Maybe it’s because of the childish innocence mentioned in the previous paragraph, but Aigis rarely doubts others intentions (which causes her, at one point in the game, to be reprogrammed to kill all her friends). She’s respectful and polite, addressing everyone with the honorific “-san” and using proper grammar almost all times. She just doesn’t have it in her to be purposefully harsh.

By the end of the epilogue, Aigis is the kind of person who can move forward, who can see that life wants to keep her down and sweetly punch life in the face. She’s a bit fail, with her sometimes corny jokes and simplistic outlook, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But the most important thing to remember about Aigis is that you don’t get between her and her friends. Keep this in mind and you should be fine.

Abilities: Aigis has two major things that can fall under abilities in the Mayfield setting. The first is the power of Persona. She technically has the ability to summon 170+ personas, but her own specific persona is Athena, which is able to use strong physical attacks.

The second is her robot body, which is... robotic. And when given the appropriate attachments, her hands turn into guns.

Yup.
Sample Entry: From a different game, but with a stronger sense of voice.

As a note, I'll be playing her with her memories and regains from her first time in Mayfield. (her regains being her body, six-shot, her persona with basic skill levels, her ribbon and her dress).

AIM: nathander2007
Other Characters Played: Pokey Minch, Haruko, and Mabel Pines who I'm apping this round (I'll be dropping Old Gregg)
Preferred Housing: None

Character Name: The Major
Character Series: Hellsing
Character Age: Appears to be in his late 20s; in actuality, he’s around his 80s-90s
Background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Major_(Hellsing)
Personality:
There is one very specific thing, one goal, that the Major idolizes and bases his life around. Every action, and thought, and step he takes is to attempt to lead to that one great desire he has, and to see that it comes to fruition. And that thing is war. The Major more or less breathes, eats, and lives war. If he isn’t actively engaged in some form of conflict, then he will actively begin seeking ways to start one. And he’s a patient man, having waited about fifty years from the end of the last great conflict before finally beginning another, one night war himself with the battalion of vampires that he had built up over the decades of remaining SS troops and officers. The Major desires the chance to be on the battlefield again, amidst carnage and destruction and burning cities. And he will do anything to gain this.

Despite this apparent desire for the destruction, it would be hard to classify the Major as an out and out nihilist. While his cause seems to be to spread destruction and death as far as he can see through battle, he seems to look at these terms exceedingly lovingly. He acknowledges war to be something monstrous, yes, but in that monstrousness he also sees something beautiful about it. In his warped perception of people and things, war is the single most beautiful thing in existence. It brings out both the best and the worst of people, and that is-aside from just how beautiful he finds war to be-the most beautiful thing about conflict. In his own odd way, the Major is a bizarre form of a humanist, and he clearly believes humans to be remarkably interesting and beautiful creatures. The problem is that he finds it much more interesting to constantly endanger and kill other humans then preserve them.

Considering his hard-on for war, the great majority of the Major’s personality traits shouldn’t be surprising. He’s incredibly cold, cruel, and practical, and has no problem showing this. He would gladly send wave after wave of men out to die as sacrifices in battle if it would act as a way to further his own goal in the battle and draw him close to victory. He has absolutely no guilt or remorse about his actions, nor concern for the lives that are ended in the conflict he creates. If there was ever such a thing as a man without a conscious, and lacking any idea of Kantian imperative, it would be the Major. Everything, including comrades and allies, are considered expendable in his war effort, and it’s expected that those who would ally themselves with him realize this. So far, this hasn’t been a problem since the great majority of Millennium had agreed with his belief set, and so taking action to correct any possible problems has been minimal.

However, while the Major is cruel, malicious, and outright evil as to be expected of him, he also has some traits one wouldn’t expect of him. The first is the fact that he generally carries himself with an oddly pleasant demeanor. He tends to have a very calm, almost kind tone of voice while speaking, and his body language incredibly relaxed and almost warm if it wasn’t for the fact of how he generally behaves or speaks. However, this warm tone can give way to a somewhat sharper and more crazed tone when he works himself up when talking about war or anything else that might immediately make him impassioned. He also displays very few leanings towards the beliefs of the National Socialist Party, which is surprising considering he’s an officer in the SS and a battalion commander who was given special orders by the Fuhrer. He appear to view his affiliation with the Nazis as more a sign as to why he went to war to begin with and continues to wage war. He has no concern for the party or nation he fights for, or is meant to fight for. Rather, he’s simply concerned with the war he will inevitably get to fight.

Abilities:
For the most part, the Major is entirely human and thus has no real powers so to speak. The exception to this is that, in order to have kept himself from dying after being executed (why he is executed is debatable; it’s believed it might have been for failing and allowing the original Artificial Vampire project to be stopped by Hellsing in 1944 during the downswing of the war), his body was retrieved and he was made into a cyborg by his comrade, the Doctor. The great majority of his body appears to have been replaced with cybernetic parts. What this means is that, being primarily machine, he would be immune to most poisons and such, but that’s pretty much it.

Preferred Housing: 1338 Benny Hill; I have received permission from the Doctor and Karkat's players and am have informed/am waiting for permission from Ib's player.

Character Name: Mabel Pines
Character Series: Gravity Falls
Character Age: 12
Background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravity_Falls
Personality:
If there was such a thing as a sunbeam, characterized and then injected with sugar and tearing around on a hyperactive spree, that would be Mabel.

Mabel is both one of the girliest girls you will meet and yet an odd ball in that respect. Being a twelve year old girl she’s going through her boy phase at the moment and several of her actions and attitudes reflect this. She tries to catch the attention of boys her age she meets (sometimes going to absurd means and lengths in order to do so) and seems to be caught up in the world of teenage girl magazines and novels to the point where she thinks a possible boyfriend turning out to be a vampire would be awesome. At the same time she hasn’t gone all the way over into the territory of a teenager yet. The concept of romantic love is something that seems desirable to her and something that, if she can, she would pursue the chance to play matchmaker on as she does with her Great Uncle (or Grunkle) Stan. That said she’s still a young girl and behaves that way, taking enjoyment in playing childish games (or inventing some herself) and the wanderlust and curiosity that leads to exploring the things in front of her are as strong as they are in any young child. She loves what many people stereotype as “girly” things such as dressing up (in fact she seems to have a rather impressive wardrobe of sweaters) and her before mentioned love of romance. At the same time these would seem to clash with her adventurous nature and oddball personality.

Speaking of oddball personality Mabel has it in spades. The nicest way would be to say that she’s exceedingly hyperactive. Mabel tends to be quite a talker when given the chance and many times seems to have difficulty focusing on one single task or thing at the same time. She often tries to focus on several things at once (to varying degrees of success) in order to keep herself entertained and interested in whatever is going on. At the same time the problem seems to be that Mabel can be very easily amused, finding it fun enough to just roll around in the grass or spin on a globe for a little bit just as long as she can keep doing something. She tends to say things without thinking a lot of the times and seems to have a special fondness for things that sparkle and shine (one time Mabel goes so far with this that she ends up eating a bottle of toothpaste because it “looked so shiny”). At the same time once Mabel sets her mind to do something she moves towards doing it with all she’s got and can be pretty single minded in getting there. Well. That isn’t to say there still couldn’t be some things that could distract her at least for a little while but most times when Mabel seems something she wants to go for she’ll try and get it. She’s also a bit of an oddball, loving to make puns and bad jokes when the chance presents itself, such as pretending to be the voice of a pelican while making a joke about a pelican having to leave a restaurant because he has a very big bill.

At the end of the day Mabel is also a very sweet girl. While hyperactive and a bit nutty she has a good heart at the end. While she can speak without thinking she never means harm and the fact that she can be so concerned about making sure to not hurt others that she’ll put others interests before her own. An example of this is when a boy who liked Mabel pressured her into going on a series of dates with him and Mabel found herself unable to say no to him out of fear that she would hurt his feelings, leading to Mabel’s brother Dipper telling the boy Mabel wasn’t interested to try and get her out of it. Dipper is, himself, a big part of Mabel’s life due to being her twin. Dipper is Mabel’s brother, confidante, and best friend. She’s never known a life without her brother and considering how well he works as a foil for her, including tempering her own outright fearlessness and oddball behavior and going somewhere without him will be an entirely new experience for her that she’ll have to adapt to.
Abilities: Mabel has the greatest power of all. Which is the power of Mabel.

That is to say, she's a normal 12 year old girl.

Diana Ethelbert ∞ Original Character ∞ Part 2/???

[personal profile] renewals 2012-08-06 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Background: For the Ethelberts, they made their name in Epyaxa and conceived a child named Diana. The family was well off and notorious in the business world between the matriarch Ingrid Ethelbert and her engineering tycoon patriarch Jonathan Ethelbert. Her parents knew that she was not going to be an ordinary child; far from it, actually. At the age of three, she was perplexed and captivated by the information she discovered in one of the many encyclopedias the family kept. This event helped to pave the road for her development here on out. As part of her education, her parents hired private tutors instead of sending her off to private academias or even public school in order to make a difference in her life. And it did; very, very scarily so.

However, her family wasn't the picture perfect image they put forth. In fact, Diana's family is a bit off kilter, as it were, what with them deciding to have a second occupation with stealing precious artifacts and important federal documents. Their reasoning towards this behavior is that it gives them a thrill rush and they're not looking to stop any time soon. As a result of this behavior, when Diana was seven, and having begun to outsmarting her tutors, she was able to go on one of the heists with her parents. This is when things got... weird for her.

On one such heist, she accidentally picked up the item they were thinking of seizing. As a result of this action, all information on Epyaxa's and Earth's government records, databases and information downloaded in her mind. This also gave her access to all the necessary files without ever needing to physically read them. In addition, she was granted the Epyaxain psychic abilities. As a consequence of the large volume of information being imparted into her mind, Diana had a mind-numbingly splitting headache and suffered with migraines and other mental related stresses for a long while. Her parents consulted no one's help on this and tried to deal with it on their own. Eventually, Diana got used to having so much information crammed inside her mind that she was able to return to her life as it was - only now with the added effect of having the Epyaxain/Earth's library in her mind.

When she was eleven, Diana managed to make a considerable reputation for herself with winning chess championships and many other tournaments. Her reasoning behind this was that she wanted a challenge. Just sitting around wasn't going to do anything but hinder her curiosity that had a desire to be sated. Yet, the more she pursued this, the more her social skills suffered. Books interested her more than actual people did and she didn't find anything particularly wrong with this behavior. This did concern her parents who wanted her to try to get her involved with other people. However, she politely refused the offer and focused her energy on understanding and utilizing the new ability she acquired instead. Through her research, she managed to find an interest in the field of technology. Technology, as she knew it, was always developing and she could learn even more things with her innate ability. She tinkered around with the machinery itself and soon enough, she managed to be fairly proficient with computers and kept herself updated with the newest software, hardware, and information.

This interest continued on for two years as she continued to join her parents' escapades with getting more and more used to her library and the psychic abilities she was able to obtain. Life still was fine and well for the Ethelbert family until one day, her parents disappeared for the reason that they finally made the wrong person angry. How Diana found out about this was through a message that appeared specifically for her and told her that if she wanted to see them again, she had to gather the funds necessary and show up alone. She had a week to do this or else the captors would make an example out the Ethelbert family to Epyaxa.

Naturally, this didn't sit well with Diana, so she pulled the strings necessary to save her parents. However, unbeknowest to her, her parents had set up a failsafe if this situation ever happened and Diana was greeted by a family friend - Xenia Anderson, who went by the name Olivia Hawk in order to keep her identity with her organization, it aptly named the English Defense Service. The two of them got along surprisingly well and Diana placed her faith in the older woman to do her job well. In no time flat (around five days of tireless searching), Diana and Olivia managed to find her parents, but it wasn't easy. Even though she brought the money as agreed upon, the captors wanted more. In fact, they wanted Diana solely because of the gift she had as the money meant nothing to the wealth of infinite knowledge did. And so, a hard battle commenced between Olivia and them while Diana did what she could to free her parents before anything bad happened to them.

However, this didn't work out as planned. Right when Diana managed to get her parents to safety, she was taken captive and struggled her entire way throughout it. As it turned out, she managed to push them away with just a single thought and a scream on her part. As far as she was aware, she wasn't capable of this power just yet. But, it did surprise the captors enough to scare them away. Diana immediately joined up with her parents once more and she vowed to take care of them for a change. In addition to this, she tried to tell them to give up on their theivery because she didn't want to see them be taken away from her again. Her parents agreed and the life of crime they had previously stopped while Diana was grateful for the change in events.

The life she had after this was pretty much the same, only that she was getting used to having Olivia around and her powers. As it turned out, Olivia was more motherly and caring than Diana once thought she was and would do her duty to protect, as well as take care of her. And, as it turned out, Diana was appreciative of this and began to open up more than she did previously. However, she did notice every now and then that she had little green discharges of electrical build up come off of her hands when she would do her work. She did her best to ignore it, but when it got more and more prevalent, she knew she couldn't ignore it any further. She then caved to seek help for what was going on. But, the problem that came as a result of this was that she didn't know who was well versed in entire physical changes, as well as the kind of abilities she had. So, while she was willing to get help for what was going on, she didn't know who to turn to. Thus, she kept quiet and tried to deal with this problem on her own. As she consulted her library for help, she couldn't narrow it down enough to get a concise answer. Unfortunately, she decided to suffer with her problem alone - just like she did with her library and psychic powers in the beginning.

Background: Wiki, looking at "Manga/2009 anime". Canonpoint is slightly after his first conversation with Homunculus, after he's had some training but before he starts his intensive alchemy education.

Personality: Slave number 23 (also known as Van Hohenheim) is the boy who will, in several hundred years, become the father of Edward and Alphonse Elric.

He's a fairly passive sort of person, much more willing to just go with the flow than try and change things. When he's first introduced, he's a slave doing basic manual labor, and more than content to stay in that position. He's not concerned with any sort of education, whether expanding his vocabulary or learning to read or write, because he's a slave, and slaves don't need that sort of thing. It's probably worth a note here that apparently in Xerxes, a form of debt bondage was the norm, with slaves working for a small amount of pay, which they could save up to buy their freedom. So it would be advantageous for a slave to learn how to read and write, if only to increase their ability to earn their freedom (for example, later in canon 23 teaches other slaves basic literacy, and the comment is made that now that they know how to read, their masters can't cheat them out of their pay anymore). So while education would be beneficial, it's not necessary (or easy to come by), doesn't have obvious rewards, and so 23's not interested.

That's not to say that he doesn't absolutely jump at the chance to better his station in life when he's given the opportunity, it just has to practically fall into his lap, with all the benefits laid out for him to see. He's just not willing to take risks or make any sort of effort without a clear reward.

One of the most striking ways this trait shows itself is in the first few panels of his introduction. He barely bats an eye at an amorphous blob in a chemistry flask suddenly striking up a conversation with him, because, hey, it's just how things are, and there's no benefit in getting thrown off by something as minor as that.

Admittedly, he's not calm all the time. He's got a fairly quick temper, and when he's not apathetic, he's annoyed. Van's even got a flaily rage trigger involving his intelligence (calling him dumb will pretty much get the same reaction as calling Ed short, though with more flailing and less eloquence). Regarding that particular aspect, he's not actually stupid, just completely uneducated. He's barely literate, has a very limited vocabulary, and doesn't have any experience with any kind of intellectual work. However, he does prove himself to be a very fast learner (in everything he's taught), and a decent teacher.

He's fairly trusting, and that eventually proves to be a major problem, since he didn't realize that his close friend and teacher (the aforementioned amorphous blob in a flask, Homunculus) was plotting to destroy their entire country and turn himself (and Van) into immortal near-gods until after it happened, and Homunculus explained what he'd done.

Abilities: He has the ability to perform alchemy, the ability to manipulate and transfigure matter using a combination of chemistry and runes that harness energy from the earth.

While alchemy has some connection to innate ability, it's also a skill that needs a lot of training, which (at this point in canon), 23 doesn't have. The little seen in canon of alchemy in Xerxes seems to indicate that it uses more direct chemical reactions and fewer runes and circles than the version used in Amestris, and it's probably closer in base principles to Alkehestry, but that's neither here nor there.

Personality: Canada is said to be a quiet and rational sort of young woman, less prone to loudness and dramatics than others around her are, such as America. Despite not having very much canon information given on her, the Nyotalia nations in general are said to be stronger and “scarier” than their regular verse counterparts, on the whole, and it’s suggested Canada’s no different. In particular, some of her design notes mention that her omnipresent bear, Kumarie, is more violent and intimidating than the bear the male Canada keeps with him. It can be inferred that the same is also true of Canada herself. While she may be shy and reserved, it seems that it would be unwise to get on her bad side. After all, if the less scary verse has a Canada who is capable of making America cry (after three hours of pointing out his every apparent fault), one has to imagine that this Canada can be a force to be reckoned with once she’s upset.

That being said, she’s an extremely friendly nation, with a strict rule of being as tolerant as possible at all times, and a distinct desire to be friends with everyone. While ‘Mother Canada’ is a common personification option, it’s a rather valid one, as Canada does tend to adopt to mothering roles very easily, be it with people, especially children, or any animals she happens to meet. This also extends to her being as helpful as she can, even if it means applying a bit of force in order to establish peace. There’s a reason that she’s experienced a time of being the leading peacekeeper in the world, after all. While she’s personally of the opinion that things could just be talked and hugged out, she acknowledges that the rest of the world isn’t like that. So whether that means getting her military involved or a bear-like brawl with her sister, Canada can and will fight, and fight well. She stays optimistic about it, at least on the outside. She usually fights to help, with the intent of doing good for the world. A little bit of cynicism shows up every so often, though, making her well aware that she’s nowhere near powerful enough to try to talk everyone else into world peace.

By default, she is quiet and humble, to the point of being almost shy. Canadian stereotypes would seem to be in place for a reason, as she tends to fit many of them perfectly. Self-depreciation is an excellent form of humour and worrying about being the most welcoming hostess ever is a constant concern. Canada is polite, almost to a fault. Should she ever do anything warranting an apology -- including tiny things like getting pronunciation in a foreign language wrong or being in someone's way so that they walk into her -- she will apologize. It's generally nothing more than a quick, quiet, "sorry," before she goes on with her life and, to some that may give it an air of insincerity. That's not the case, though: she doesn't apologize for things she meant to do and the guilt would nag at her if she didn't apologize for her errors. The same can be said of her quiet little "thank you." Even if it's just a passing nicety, complimenting her beret or holding the door for her, she appreciates it, and is bound to tell you so. This is a combination of her upbringing -- France and England both know a thing or two about formality and grace -- and a deep-seated faith in "do unto others as you would have them do unto you." She likes being thanked. A lot. And she highly appreciates when her grievances are addressed. Canada can thus only assume it's what everyone else wants, too.

She's nice, genuinely, but also fiercely proud of her people and protective of the things that are hers. Her history has meant that most of her people have chosen, or have had ancestors choose to be her people. That means a lot to Canada, and so she never lets anyone else take away the value of her citizens. Home is where the heart is, supposedly, and although her home is predetermined, who she shares it with is not. That means that people can choose, and if they still wind up in her house, so to speak, she will be the best host and the best nation she possibly can be, for them. In that same vein, hell hath no fury like Canada once you've dismissed her people as unimportant, and she will not hesitate to tell off any other nation who does that. She knows that she herself is forgettable and accepts that, but she will not accept the same for her people, end of discussion.

Abilities: As one of those country things, Canada's well-being is all about her land and people. She's incredibly slow to age and also significantly stronger and possessing higher endurance levels than the average human woman would, provided she stays "connected" to her home. She's also all but impossible to kill in this state.

Sample Entry: Journal and community posts from her previous visit.

Note: I would like Canada to keep her memories and regains (nationhood, her bear, a moose, a tree, and a rifle, along with a few little things) from her previous time in Mayfield.

thanks!

Character Name: Yao Wang, The People’s Republic of China (PRC)
Character Series: Axis Powers Hetalia
Character Age: Over 4,000 years old
Background:
Canon Background: http://hetalia.wikia.com/wiki/China
Country Background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China

Personality: China, also called Wang Yao, is the anthropomorphic representation of the country he’s named after. He looks like nothing more than a rather effeminate young Chinese man, but he is in reality over 4,000 years old, the oldest of the nations represented in his canon, and described as immortal in his character profile. From his appearance and actions, one would never guess that Yao was once one of the mightiest empires in the world. With his androgynous looks and fondness for cute things, he hardly seems dangerous. However, appearances can be deceiving, and he has not completely lost his edge. That is to say that he is not without a serious side.

An overall lively character, Yao appears mostly cheerful. He is appreciative of the simpler things in life, whether it be enjoying a cup of tea or viewing the moon on a clear evening. He is happiest when spending time with family, cooking, being helpful, lecturing, or doing business. If someone has a problem, he is glad to help them fix it, especially if it involves dispensing some of his own sage advice, and from the Silk Road to countless Chinatowns established all over the world, he has always had a talent for commerce. On the other hand, he is easily irritated. He is stubborn, sure of himself, and something like a grumpy old man with a tendency to complain and lecture when something is not to his liking.

Before Western contact, China considered itself the center of the civilized world. It was only when forced out of its isolation, that it was disabused of this notion. It follows then that Yao is extremely proud, even today. He is also, however, older, wiser, and more wary. China is not as unassuming as he once was, but he does have his moments. Greeting a night time intruder joyfully, for example, just because he happens to be wearing a cat mascot suit, which China finds cute, is not exactly the most well thought out plan of action.

He has adapted well enough to the 21st century, but there are times when he is nostalgic for his ancient past. One might accuse him of being old fashioned or superstitious, and they might be right; but to him, it is only that he values tradition and is proud of his thousands of years of history and culture. The rest of the nations in comparison often seem like children to him, and he is entirely guilty of treating them accordingly at times. He believes that he’s helping and that they should trust in his greater experience. He can be very stubborn. Because of this, among other things, he isn’t always taken very seriously.

He likes cute things like cartoon characters and pandas, but he does not draw them well at all. The results are distorted, not exactly cute, even a little creepy. A prime example of this is Shinatty, a Hello Kitty copy, which, true to actual Hello Kitty products in China has a mouth where there should be none. When a middle aged man wearing a Shinatty mascot head appears in Yao’s kitchen in the middle of the night, Yao finds him adorable, assuming he is Hello Kitty. It is only after the other explains he is not, that Yao’s enthusiasm dims. So while he is aware that his cartoon drawings are not up to par, it is also obvious that his sense of what is and isn’t cute can be a little warped. He tries very hard, but the “cute” products that come out of China often miss the mark.

Having a prolific, diverse culinary tradition, China loves to cook almost as much as he loves to criticize the food of others. A lack of variety in tastes annoys him. Despite this, he is hard pressed to pass up free food, no matter what it may be. Whether a cultural quirk or a result of knowing exactly what a famine can do to a country, he has a healthy appetite.

Family is important to him. He would like to be treated as a big brother by the Asian countries, and tries to act as one, but is rarely acknowledged as such. Having raised them all at one time or another, China has paternal feelings of varying degrees towards all of them, even Japan, whose betrayal during World War II, is responsible for the long scar running down his back. Unfortunately, this also means that he also has a nagging habit of telling them what they should do. China doesn’t see it as nagging. He is, as far as he’s concerned, helping by imparting his own wisdom accumulated over the years. He wants what is best for them, or to be more accurate, he wants what he thinks is best for them.

Though China appears confident, and he would never admit it, he is not immune to loneliness. He misses having young charges to look after. Over the years, as his younger siblings left or were taken from him, his house began to feel very empty indeed. To complicate matters, he is used to betrayal and abuse from the other nations, and while he would like on some level to build closer ties with others, when it seems as though he may truly count on another as friend, he has trouble genuinely trusting that feeling. He may not show it, but he is by nature somewhat suspicious of others. It is only for family that he may let that guard down completely.

His manner is generally polite, but direct. He does not mince words when speaking to others. But it is an altogether different thing if the matter at hand is business or diplomacy. He knows how to hold his tongue and sweeten his words when necessary. Don’t let the pretty face fool you. Even with all his quirks, Wang Yao is a shrewd, ambitious businessman. The short term goal is and has been survival, but he is always looking towards the future of his people. That is, when he’s not fighting off Korea’s advances, or manufacturing yet more Hello Kitty knockoffs anyway…

Abilities: As the anthropomorphic personification of a country, Yao doesn’t age. He can be hurt, but heals quickly, and whether or not he can actually be killed is up for debate. One supposes that if People’s Republic of China was dissolved, that would be a kind of death, but in Hetalia, even the “dead nations” (Ancient Rome, Germania) show up from time to time.

China is an excellent cook, and an accomplished artist. He is especially good at depicting beauty. He has produced gorgeous illustrations of people, and is even able to paint the same likeness on a single strand of human hair.

He is intelligent and well educated in his own classics. He speaks Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, and English, and it is not farfetched to surmise that over the years, he has also picked up a decent understanding of the other Asian languages. However, while he is fluent in English, he tends to be lazy in speaking it, ending sentences with “aru“, and sometimes omitting words. To him, Mandarin Chinese is superior after all, and English is an ugly language.

As far as survival skills go (first aid, starting a fire, rationing food and water), China is fairly well versed. He does not always act wisely, but does possess wisdom gained through experience. Having lived thousands of years of battle, including two world wars, he is no stranger to living in war torn conditions with limited resources. He is also a skilled martial artist, and well versed in both strategy and tactics.

Preferred Housing: N/A

Character Name: Keiichi Maebara
Character Series: Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (When Cicadas Cry/When They Cry)
Character Age: 16
Background: Keiichi's Background
Personality: A completely average sixteen year old boy. That’s Keiichi Maebara in a nutshell. …What…? Okay, of course you don’t believe me. Keiichi is anything but average. Having been described by both himself and others as an “orange flame that burns brightly”, Keiichi is an energetic, passionate individual who is almost always in a hyperactive state. You see that teenager screaming at the top of his lungs about the Angel Mort uniform being the best thing in creation? You see that guy with the metal bat bashing down gun wielding spec-ops members? That’s Keiichi Maebara. Keiichi is able to inspire others to push themselves to the utmost and give it their all, and could take the frowns of an entire classroom and flip them upside down, a feat that he has accomplished before. This personality trait was where Rika placed her faith during Minagoroshi-hen, having decided that Keiichi was the one who could destroy destiny and shatter fate itself to create a miracle. Even though Keiichi himself can be attacked by depressing or negative emotions, he tries his hardest to deal with them and even extend his own burning spirit to others in attempts to assist them in overcoming their own adversities.

Another title that Keiichi holds is Magician of Words, which is reflected in the fact that he has quite the silver tongue. Keiichi’s art of persuasion is thought to be one of the best in the series, to the point that he was even able to make the Sonozaki head, known throughout Hinamizawa to be one of if not the most terrifying individual within the village, comply with his demands. Keiichi is the kind of person that is able to present facts in a very direct way so that whomever he is speaking to isn’t confused or manipulated into believing something false. During the time in the classroom where Shion wanted to kill Teppei, Keiichi stopped her whilst going over the effects it would have on Satoko and the aftermath of murdering him, along with the emotional stress that would fall onto Shion. While not the sharpest knife in the drawer at times, Keiichi is a formidable foe in a battle of wits, which may or may not have something to do with the club activities. During different games played with his school’s club, Keiichi has been known to use his powers of deception against his fellow students though this is more due to the fact that the games chosen by Mion deal with deception and she has been known to attempt to cheat in each of the games.

Friendship is perhaps one of the strongest elements present in Higurashi, and Keiichi is one of the individuals who consider the relationship with his friends to be one of his greatest treasures. Proven toward the climax of Minagoroshi-hen, if the club members all band together as close friends they can even fight against fate itself. The reason that most if not all arcs ended with one of the club members going insane was because they grew suspicious of their friends, or the world around them and inevitably lost their mind to that suspicion. Keiichi understands that if he and his friends do not band together, that even the slightest wind would be able to blow out their combined fire. Before coming to Hinamizawa, Keiichi had been a remorseful person due to his past of shooting a little girl’s eye out with an airsoft gun. After meeting new friends in Hinamizawa and getting along with everyone in the village, however, Keiichi began to change from this initially cold and bored individual into a bright, explosive, somewhat arrogant and somewhat perverted teen. It is impossible to put into words how much he cares for and enjoys hanging out with his friends, and if Keiichi were able to keep these halcyon days going in a linear flow, he would choose that path with no regrets.

Played more in a comedic light, Keiichi also happens to be a pervert with minimal luck. Keiichi will frequently tease Rena or exchange quips with Mion that are leaning toward the ecchi side, though Keiichi’s true perversion only extends to the urges that every teenage boy has. His relationship with Satoko and Rika has caused some of the club members to label him as a lolicon, which only further causes people to mistake the kind of person he is. In all seriousness, Keiichi simply enjoys teasing his friends and goofing off, an extremely carefree boy living in a not so carefree village. Another small trait to note of Keiichi’s psyche is that any stories involving a screw being inside someone’s food will instantly freak him out, having read a story about it in the past. This story would come to twist his psyche during Onikakushi-hen and would push credit toward his overall insanity, even though the “screw” had only been tobasco sauce.

Oh, and Keiichi has a fur seal. No context necessary.

Abilities: Keiichi holds no supernatural abilities whatsoever, the only skills being accredited to his burning spirit and way with words.
Sample Entry: CITIZENS OF MAYFIELD, LEND ME YOUR EARS!!

[Who is that devilishly handsome young boy screaming at the top of his lungs into Mayfield's phone system? Why it's Keiichi Maebara, Magician of Words!]

It has been at least a month since I came here, and I've already noticed a few problems.

Where's your drive to leave this place? Don't you want to see your friends and family again that you've left behind?

[Irritation settles into his tone.]

You guys make me sick!! You just sit there and deal with things as they are!! You say you've already been fighting and that it's all pointless, BUT HOW CAN YOU BE SO SURE THAT IT'S SO POINTLESS?! Your efforts have simply cracked the glass wall that we need to break through!! Do not think your actions have gone unnoticed. This town's grip isn't as tight as you may think.

[If you could see Keiichi, he'd be clenching his fist.]

You say that this is fate? That we are destined to stay here? BULLSHIT!! Don't you know that fate is as fragile as a piece of paper?!

[The irritation in his tone reaches no heights before, finally, he exchanges it for a more hot blooded enthusiasm.]

Destiny can be changed!! We will break this so called "fate" together!! I hope you're listening to this, whoever is pulling the strings of this place!! If you think you can stop me, Keiichi Maebara, the Magician of Words, then you're dead wrong!! And us... all of us, every single person that wants to escape this nightmarish hell and return home... Keep fighting!! Don't ever allow yourselves to submit to this "fate"! I will never forgive these pieces of trash who find pleasure in torturing my friends!!!

[A very light, almost playful giggle escapes the boy before he finishes.]

You better be careful, Mayfield. Words like "destiny" and "fate" mean a lot to men like me.

Name: Dante
Personal LJ: [personal profile] falconpawnch
Contact Info: TheIrradiated on Plurk and AIM
Other Characters Played: Luke Triton
Preferred Housing: N/A

Character Name: Simba
Character Series: The Lion King
Character Age: No age given, but he's a lion cub.
Background: Here!
Personality:

Simba behaves a lot like a spoiled prince and as a lot of young children would, he doesn't see his title of future king as a great responsibility and something that should be taken seriously. Instead he sees it as a way of being excused to do whatever he wants, whenever he wants. He often brags about the fact that he'll be the new king of Pride Rock someday, and talks about the "changes" he'll make once he's king (usually involving rules he doesn't like, such as the marriage arrangement with Nala). Sometimes he'll also use his position as prince to try and boss around others, especially if he's not getting his way.

Simba's also overconfident and arrogant, such as telling Nala that he was the one who pulled off their plan to ditch Zazu in order to get the to Elephant Graveryard. When Zazu tells them later that the Elephant Graveyard was a dangerous place and they needed to leave, Simba responds by telling him that he "laughs in the face of danger". Even confronted by the hyenas who were clearly bigger than him and willing to eat him, Simba dismisses them saying that they can't do anything to do him and proceeds to insult with them despite being outmatched.

The phrase "curiosity killed the cat" applies to Simba in spades, as places that involve danger draw Simba in like a moth to fire. His curiosity along with his need to prove himself is one of the reasons he gets into the trouble he does with the hyenas in the Elephant Graveyard. In fact, Scar relies on that curiosity for one of his earlier plans to kill off Simba, not so subtly dropping off the hint that there's an Elephant Graveyard in the first place knowing full well that morbid curiosity would get the better of Simba and led him right into danger.

Simba also has a constant need to test his bravery. And while Simba's bravery does shine through in some aspects, such as attacking a hyena to save his friend, part of it is also bravado. The truth behind all this crazy daredevil stuff is that he desperately wants to prove himself in an attempt to be just like his father, who he idolizes more than anything in the world. Some of this is shown in the scene where Simba steps in a pawprint made by his father, and seeing the size difference between his father's pawprint and his own. In that scene, Simba actually looks disappointed knowing that he has a long way to go before he fulfills the role of his father. And in the same scene where his father's scolding him, Simba tries to defend his actions protesting that "kings don't get scared" and that he wanted to be brave just like his dad.

Simba also shows that while he's childishly naive about how the world works, he's painfully trusting of others, especially when it comes to his uncle. Whatever Scar tells him, Simba blindly believes him. And that becomes very apparent when Scar lures Simba into the gorge for a "surprise" between him and his father. Scar relies on the fact that Simba will trust him enough and follows what he says long enough to set off the stampede that leads to the downfall of Mufasa. Even after Mufasa's death, Scar easily convinces Simba that the death is his fault and that he can't return to the Pride Lands. Simba takes full blame for the guilt, carrying this burden well into adulthood without ever telling anyone about it. And when he's exiled, Simba is quick to pick up Timon and Pumbaa's philosophy of living a carefree life without any responsibility, showing just how lost Simba is and how he's desperate for guidance.

Abilities: None
Sample Entry:

[Okay, Simba could handle most of the things he's run into in Mayfield. He could handle the fact there were humans, he could handle the fact that they lived in strange-looking caves, he could even handle things like snow.

But there was one thing he wanted no part of, something terrible just a few feet away from him. He was trapped, they locked him in and now the drone woman in front of him was planning to kill him.]

Come on now, be a good kitty. It's time for your bath!

N-no! Go away, I don't need a bath!

[Simba tried hiding himself between the wall and the back of the toilet, and the drone woman was holding some kind of bottle - poison, he guessed. It was gooey and some weird color and it made the water all bubbling, it had to be some kind of poison. He didn't trust it for a minute, no doubt she was planning on murdering him with whatever was in that bottle.]

Come out, kitty. You don't want to be all dirty, do you?

I said go away!

[And when she reaches down to grab him by the scruff of the neck, he rewards her with a painful swat. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to faze her and she drags him out anyway by the back of his neck, which starts up a lot of pathetic whining from Simba as she lowers him into the bathtub.]

No no no, put me down!! No, not down there! Somebody HELP!

Gamzee Makara | Homestuck | Not Reserved?

[personal profile] yofaycesux 2012-08-09 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Name: Yofay/Yofayce, or Chris. I don't much mind.
Personal Journal: n/a
Contact Info: No AIM yet, but I can set one up. Email is Yo.fayce.sux@gmail.com
Other Characters Played: None, unfortunately.
Preferred Housing: n/a

Character Name: Gamzee Makara
Character Series: Homestuck
Character Age: Thirteen at introduction, or possibly 16 due to his involvement in the current canon. I'd rather go 16.
Background: http://mspaintadventures.wikia.com/wiki/Gamzee_Makara
Personality: Gamzee is a very relaxed fellow. Coming from a world of horror, blood, and chaos, he tends to remain unfazed by such things, and generally prefers to be intoxicated or in an altered state of mind generally. He also isn't all there, as he has occasional breaks from reality, either showing as his sober!gamzee side, or just him not being all there due to the sopor slime.

He is also a bit sporadic with his behavior, capricious being part of his handle, and meaning impulsive and/or unpredictable, he tends to act accordingly. Although, due do his personality and him being a generally cheery guy, he tends to act more eccentric than rash, thus he isn’t typically a quick to act kind of guy. He likes to take his time.

Seeing as I would like to take him from before the events of the asteroid (which I can also handle, but there are off-shoots of dream bubbles and alternate timelines which could easily explain this, so I feel it would be reasonable), he has not snapped and gone crazy/killed half the trolls, so he is still in a mellow state, and I would be willing to keep him like that, despite him snapping when he runs out of slime, if I am allowed. If things go as I hope (and are allowed), other things will replace his pies.

Another deviation from canon, as I think most would appreciate the lack of HiS tYpInG qUiRk and there are no computers easily accessible to him, I will be dropping that aspect unless I am prompted to use it. Maybe I’ll implement it as part of his aloof moments, but for now, I plan to leave it out. He will retain his love of ‘miracles’ and the beliefs of his ancestors, and his general attitude towards life. As well as the cursing, because as much as I want to incorporate it, I feel like he would be reprimanded for it. Maybe in personal thoughts or when he isn’t under the observation of adults.

If there are aspects of the character that I have left out, please let me know what I need to alter and I will handle it as soon as possible. I think I’ve covered a good portion of him.
Abilities: None that I can think of beyond his visions, but they are hallucinations (kind of) of another world, so you can decide. If nothing is said I will leave them out. I would enjoy having Faygo for him to drink, but possibly as a Regain. For the time being he will enjoy the company of the Malt Shop tenant.
Sample Entry:

Soda Jerk: “Now you watch it mister, or I’ll have you out of here faster than you could snap your fingers. We don’t allow that kind of language and you know it!“
Gamzee: “Don’t be flippin’ out man, it just slipped. No need to get harsh bro, dad never had a problem with it.”

Preferred Housing: 5721 Cunningham Lane

Character Name: Lili Zanotto
Character Series: Psychonauts
Character Age: 10
Background: Game canon
Character Bio

Personality: In the game, it’s implied that psychics are looked down on by the general public. For a child with such abilities, it’s difficult to fit in until they find a place like Whispering Rock that accepts them. However, even among these budding psychics, there’s competition and bullying among themselves. Lili has built a tough skin against these sort of things and is able to shrug them off. Still, she prefers to be by herself sometimes.

She hates being a damsel in distress. Being a long time veteran of Whispering Rock Camp and gaining all the badges they could achieve, she knows how to fight back when necessary. When she’s not dealing with annoying campers, there were bears and mountain lions with psychic powers.

Lili is never afraid to speak her mind even to adults. She pointed out to Agents Sasha Nein and Milla Vodello that Raz had not only saved the campers’ brains, but their brains and the whole world from Coach Oleander’s plans to use psychic-powered death tanks to take over the world.

Before meeting with Raz, she was over about the camp, and the Psychonauts. Only after he discovered Coach Oleander’s evil plans, does she get excited about it again. There are moments where she’s snarky with Raz but she does develop feelings for him. When he manages to infiltrate the camp and makes a big entrance, she’s honestly amazed by the stunt but never says it out loud. She mentions her cryptic dreams to him which eventually trigger the events leading to realizing the Coach’s nefarious scheme. Just as they were about head off to confront him, Lili is caputured by Linda when she even declares Raz as her boyfriend.

Abilities: Lili is a psychic but because she still is a child, her powers aren’t at their full potential. She already gained all the basic badges in Whispering Rock before she meets Raz. These skills include psi-blast (basic energy blast), levitation, clairvoyance, psi-shield, invisibility, psy-grenade (projectile that disorients the opponent temporarily) and pyrokinesis. In the game, she displayed her telekinesis to catch a falling Raz, having no problem lifting someone around her size.

Note: I’d like her to keep her regains and Mayfield memories please.

Other Characters Played: N/A
Preferred Housing: 754 Partridge Drive

Character Name: Harry Potter
Character Series: Harry Potter
Character Age: Ten years old.
Background: Harry Potter @ HP Wiki
Personality: During most of his life, Harry tends to take what he's given. At the start of his life with the Dursley's he asked questions and complained because Dudley was favoured. But by now, he knows better. It's easier if you don't argue with Uncle Vernon or Aunt Petunia. If you don't, then you can eat and sleep and not be locked up. This doesn't stop him being curious about his parents, it simply stops him from finding anything out because he knows he won't get the answers and he will still be punished.

After Harry finds out he's a wizard, these things change because he has leverage to use and he gets older and slightly more wise about the world. Also, when he finds out what really happened on that Halloween, he feels he has to live up to the expectation the wizarding world has created during his childhood with the Dursleys. But at ten years old, he's still under his aunt and uncle's thumb and doesn't realise what's going to grow up to be.

At school, Harry is shunned by his peers as Dudley makes it known not to be his friend. This is part of the reason why he is so loyal. If someone is willing to be his friend, then he's going to stick by them until the end. Even if it's a stupid idea. This also explains his loneliness. He's never had the chance to make a real friend due to Dudley so he's generally alone and therefore an even easier target.

If left to flourish, Harry would become happy, confident and even competitive. But in the end, he doesn't mind losing as long as he's had fun.

Despite everything he's had to deal with in Privet Drive, or maybe because of, Harry still has a good heart. All he really wants is a family and to be happy. But he's not going to get that at the Dursley's. This is why the Weasley's play a vital role in his life as a wizard because they accept him and love him for who he is without judgement.

Harry also has a good memory. He can remember the green light of his mother's death and the motorbike ride with Hagrid. The latter is something he keeps close to his heart and not share with the Dursley's as he knows they will laugh and Dudley will certainly tease. But even though, he can remember events of almost a decade passed, he doesn't turn his skill to his school work, even in later life at Hogwarts. This is probably so he doesn't get noticed in the Muggle primary school, as noticed would mean picked on and more bullying by Dudley.

At Mayfield, this trait may lessen as he will, at the start, feel slightly safer as his relatives are not there to lock him up.
Abilities: Under age magic, Harry has the ability to use magic but doesn't know it yet.

Background:

A little note: The events of Dragon Age can change a lot depending on the player character's gender/race as well as the choices s/he makes throughout the game. Generally, in both this app and the game, I'll try to avoid direct references to things that can vary between playthroughs.

Morrigan was born and raised in the Korcari Wilds, a dense expanse of forest and swampland in the southernmost reaches of the medieval kingdom of Ferelden. Few outsiders ever dared to enter the wilds, and with good reason: Morrigan's mother was Flemeth, a legendary witch of great power. Flemeth's legend spanned continents and centuries, and even the least superstitious denizen of Thedas had heard rumors of the woman's power and alleged immortality. She was said to have consorted with demons, to have killed kings, to have stolen the tribesmen of the wilds from their beds and used them to sire a clan of beautiful, deadly daughters who shared her fearsome power.

To Morrigan, though, Flemeth was simply 'Mother.' As she grew older, she learned of the legends surrounding the woman and, for the most part, dismissed them. Flemeth was old and powerful, yes, and had done many remarkable things, but she was hardly a monster. As far as Morrigan was concerned, the fact that other people labelled her mother an abomination was more a sign of their ignorance and fear of magic than anything truly to do with Flemeth. And anyhow, there was no evidence that Flemeth had ever had daughters other than Morrigan.

In their little swampland hut, Flemeth tutored Morrigan in the ways of magic from a young age. The girl learned to walk in the Fade, the spirit world from which all magic flows, to change into animals, and to kill those who threatened her. It was illegal for witches in Ferelden to live outside the Circle of Magi, and so mother and daughter often found themselves hunted by templars - the military arm of Ferelden's reigning religion, tasked with finding and killing 'apostates' who practiced magic outside of church sanctions. But the Wilds were a dangerous place, and none of the templars who entered in search of the witches left with their prize. Most never left at all.

In a conversation with the player-character, Morrigan reveals that Flemeth taught her to deal with these incidents as a child by turning them a game: new templars would arrive in the forest, and the young Morrigan would be tasked with leading them on a wild-goose chase - separating them from their fellows, drawing them deeper into the wilds - until her mother could find them and dispose of them.

And so Morrigan grew up with no real human contact, only her mother and the animals of the forest. She ventured into civilization a handful of times out of curiosity, but always returned to her home in the swamp.

She likely would have remained there her whole life if not for the dawning of the fifth Blight. A Blight is a really big deal in the Dragon Age universe: instigated by the corruption of one of the Old Gods, it involves monsters (known as darkspawn) rising out of the earth to wreak havoc on civilization and the general threat of doom of life as we know it. All of the previous Blights had been ended by the Grey Wardens, an order of warriors established for exactly that purpose, but by the time the fifth Blight truly began? There were only a handful of Wardens in all of Ferelden. After an early battle against the darkspawn turned sour, culminating in the betrayal and death of Ferelden's king at the hands of his most trusted general, there were just two: the dead king's bastard ex-templar brother and a recently-conscripted outcast. Flemeth saved these last two Wardens from certain death in the battle and charged them with gathering allies to drive back the darkspawn horde while the rest of Ferelden collapsed into civil war.

She also charged Morrigan to accompany them. Though initially resistant to the idea, Morrigan reluctantly agreed to guide the pair and help them on their quest with her magical skills. As they travelled, the threesome quickly accumulated a standard-issue party of adventurers - a kindly old witch from the Circle of Magi, a stoic warrior from another country, a dwarf with chronic alcoholism, a trusty war hound, etc - almost all of whom Morrigan got on with very, very badly. She even hated the dog. :(

The group's journey took them to the farthest corners of Ferelden, where they resolved a conflict between forest elves and werewolves, made a religious pilgrimage to recover Thedas-Jesus's magical ashes, discovered lost dwarven technology, and played exterminator when a demon infestation took over the Fereldan Circle of Magi. It was in this last location that the party discovered a long-lost possession of Flemeth's: the Black Grimoire. Reading it, Morrigan finally discovered the secret of her mother's alleged immortality. For centuries beyond count, the witch had been raising daughters just like Morrigan in the Korcari Wilds. Once a daughter reached adulthood, Flemeth would forcibly take over the girl's body, stealing her youth and living to repeat the process again. And, from all appearances, Morrigan was to be next.

Needless to say, Morrigan wasn't exactly keen on this idea. With the help of her fellow adventurers, she had Flemeth killed to prevent herself from getting body-snatched. She knew that nothing as old and powerful as her mother could truly die, but putting her current manifestation in the ground would, at least, keep the other witch at bay for a few years.

After that little adventure, the party finally travelled to Denerim, Ferelden's capital, to confront the man who betrayed the king and muster their newfound allies to drive back the darkspawn once and for all.

Sadly for Morrigan, she woke up in Mayfield before she could find out how any of that went. Oop!

Sayaka Miki | Puella Magi Madoka Magica | Not Reserved

Other Characters Played: Dad Egbert, Yuna Akashi, Kay Faraday, Rarity, Kariya Matou
Preferred Housing: A house with at least one non-drone, if possible.

Character Name: Sayaka Miki
Character Series: Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Character Age: 14

Background: I'm taking Sayaka from after her first fight with Kyoko but before she finds out the truth about the Soul Gem, so here are links to the relevant episode summaries:
Episode 1
Episode 2
Episode 3
Episode 4
Episode 5
Episode 6

Personality: Sayaka's personality actually changes a fair bit over the course of the show, so I'll primarily be discussing what she's like at the point she's being pulled from for purposes of this app.

Sayaka is primarily bright, energetic, and cheerful, both in her dealings with her friends and during her nighttime activities as a magical girl. She's usually the one suggesting various activities for the group after school, or encouraging side trips to the music store or to buy comics before heading home for the night to study. She has a bit of a playful streak to her, sometimes flirting with Madoka just to get a reaction when at school, and also joking around about being a hero of justice while hunting witches. Even when Mami invites Sayaka and Madoka along on witch hunts, she's gung-ho about it from the very beginning, even bringing along her own weapon and trying to do her best despite her lack of a Soul Gem or any real magical power.

For all this cheerfulness, however, there is a darker side to Sayaka's personality. At least some of the joking around and confidence she projects is a façade she puts forth to cover up some deep down insecurities. Even though she throws herself fully into hunting witches and familiars once she has made her contract, she is seemingly unable to support herself without Madoka around to cheer her on and act as moral support. She readily admits to being nervous and afraid on numerous occasions, even as she continues to apparently bravely stride through the witches' labyrinths seeking a fight. This lack of certainty also manifests itself in her dealings with Kyosuke at the hospital, when she is unable to tell him her true feelings even after using her wish to heal his hands. This is also part of the reason she breaks down later, believing that if she ever falls in combat, it's because she was too weak, didn't work hard enough, and deserves to die for the mistake.

Sayaka has a very strong sense of justice, and this is probably both her best and her worst trait simultaneously. It's a good thing because it means she has a caring heart that wants to protect, heal, and save others, but it is also the trait that eventually leads to her mental breakdown and subsequent downfall resulting in her witch transformation. This leads to her becoming very self-sacrificing, spending her energy to defeat familiars despite the knowledge that killing them will never result in a Grief Seed, and also throwing herself into battles with very little regard for her own safety if it means ensuring the same for someone else. She also extends this to fighting other people, making an enemy of Kyoko very early on over a difference of opinion on best to handle the task of fighting witches. In Sayaka's mind, letting the familiars go so they can feed on people and become witches before killing them is just as bad as killing those people yourself.

Related to her sense of justice is the fact that Sayaka can be incredibly stubborn. She is very quick to make up her mind about situations and people, and once she has done so, it is very hard to get her to change her opinion. When she first meets Kyoko, sparks fly almost immediately due to their differing natures, and even later in the series when it looks like they're finding some common ground, Sayaka still manages to find enough fault with the other girl to reject her when she finds out she's been stealing food to survive. This also leads to black and white thinking on Sayaka's part, as she does not acknowledge individual circumstances or alternative viewpoints as she makes her judgments as to what is good and what is evil. When she finds out later about her Soul Gem and the true nature of her body, she assumes it must mean she is fated to spend her life in pain and then die alone, without seeing that things don't necessarily need to turn out that way or that she can still pursue happiness in the meantime.

Abilities: Sayaka's soul is stored inside her Soul Gem. This has the effect of giving her a much stronger and more resilient body, capable of taking far more pain and damage than that of a normal human. Because of the nature of her wish, she also has heightened healing abilities, and is able to regenerate and recover from her wounds faster than even other puella magi. Finally, she can conjure a seemingly infinite number of swords to wield both in melee and as magically propelled thrown weapons to use to defeat witches and their familiars.

Sample Entry: Here and here are some meme threads that demonstrate Sayaka's personality fairly well.

Snow Villiers | Final Fantasy XIII | Reserved

Name: Steve
Personal Journal: [personal profile] abnormacus
Contact Info: darkspineshadow on AIM or you can find me on Plurk here!
Other Characters Played: The Riddler
Preferred Housing: In the same house as Miakis, who's apping in this round! Ally and I have talked this out beforehand.

Character Name: Snow Villiers
Character Series: Final Fantasy XIII
Character Age: 21
Background: Here! As for his specific point in canon, he'll be pulled from the end of Chapter 7, just after leaving Palumpolum. I'd like for him to keep his memories and regains from his previous stay in Mayfield!

Personality: Snow Villiers may not be the main hero of Final Fantasy XIII, but his bold personality and the courageous actions he takes over the course of the story pretty much cements his status as a big damn hero regardless. Described by his unwilling sister-in-law-to-be as "arrogant and chummy from the get-go," a man who "thinks he's everyone's pal," one of Snow's most well-defined characteristics is his charisma, as well as his winning (or perhaps not-so-winning) smile. While his charm has certainly enthralled his fiancee, Serah, and his close compadres in NORA, the fact of the matter is that there are plenty of people who don't approve of his attitude at all. Snow's very much the sort of guy who plans his victory speeches long before any actual victories. "Since when have heroes ever needed plans?" he's bold enough to ask. His lack of foresight leads to plenty of ire from the rest of his party, causing Lightning and even Vanille to consider Snow "nothing but talk."

Admittedly, though, a good deal of it is talk. There are plenty of moments in which Snow can do nothing but talk in order to keep his spirit going. Because no matter how much he'd hate to admit it, heroes do fail. It's sad, but true. For instance, a hastily-organized resistance effort against the Sanctum's military forces leads to the unexpected deaths of numerous untrained civilians, including Hope's mother. Sure, he had made one last promise to her before she fell, but had no idea where to even begin. "Where do you start?" he lashed out. "What do you say?" All he could do was run away from that promise, with hopes that in doing something greater for Cocoon and the world in general, Snow would find some way to atone for what he'd done. Without any idea that she was Hope's mother, Snow failed to realize that the boy she wanted brought home was standing right behind him this whole time, waiting to place a dagger in his back.

Even after Hope attempts to kill him in revenge, though, Snow hardly hesitates to put his life on the line to keep Hope safe. He doesn't once complain about what had happened, even giving Hope another opportunity to punish him as he carries the boy home, leaving himself completely exposed. When it comes down to it, Snow is definitely capable of taking some serious responsibilities for his actions. It's also evident in the way he tarnishes his own name in Palumpolum, declaring himself a Pulse l'Cie and firing his gun into the air in the midst of a massive crowd of people. Within seconds after the crowd disperses, it's made clear that he did so in order to keep those around him safe from any of PSICOM's attacks, as they would have attacked regardless of the threat of civilian casualty.

Snow isn't always the fastest learner. Consider, for example, all three of his encounters with Primarch Galenth Dysley, and how each swipe Snow took at him wound up backfiring in the exact same fashion. But he's a powerful forced to be reckoned with nonetheless. Not only in regards to his brute strength and physical stamina, but in terms of his unquestionable loyalty to his friends, to NORA, and to Serah. Snow's devotion to Serah---to keeping her safe, following her word, fulfilling their Focus in hopes of saving her---is arguably the biggest driving force in Final Fantasy XIII, and though the rest of the party may not realize it? In large part, their successes and their progression could be considered a result of following Snow's example. They didn't always have a plan, and constantly found themselves wallowing in their own despair. But at the end of the day, the group of l'Cie would need to put their doubts aside, continuing forward and doing whatever it takes to save everyone. To be true heroes.

Abilities: Before becoming a l’Cie, the only weapons Snow could truly rely on were his own two fists. That and the augmentative seals on the back of his trench coat. Powered by AMP technology, the emblems on the back of Snow’s jacket could serve as a means to amplify his strength and to help him pack just a bit more punch.

After becoming a l’Cie, of course, Snow’s gained a considerable amount of new abilities and paradigms. His three strongest affinities are with the Commando, Ravager, and Sentinel classes. As a Commando, Snow attacks with his powerful fists. As a Ravager, he makes use of Water, Ice, and Wind magic. And as a Sentinel, he acts as a defensive shield, provoking foes into focusing their attacks on him in order to allow his allies an opportunity to strike.

He’s very strong, and has incredible stamina, given the fact that---of the six party members of Final Fantasy XIII---Snow has the highest HP growth. And it’s demonstrated in that even after spending an afternoon on the run through Palumpolum, getting blasted off a roof by Hope, falling from that tall ledge and catching Hope (while landing painfully on his back), the hero is still able to carry the young boy on his back for the nearly the rest of the journey back to the Estheim house.

Finally, Snow has the ability to summon a team of Eidolons known as the Shiva Sisters. These two sisters are spirits of Ice, supporting Snow as a Ravager / Commando duo and combining themselves into a motorcycle in their Gestalt mode (which Snow can ride on).

Cable // Marvel Universe // Reserved // Part 2

[personal profile] godmodcomplex 2012-09-29 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Right, well.

Cable is a manipulator, and not the type of guy to deny the fact if someone calls him on it. Just about the entirety of his presence in Cable & Deadpool is operating in the background, on a higher tier. He gets what he needs no matter what he needs, and he can manage it straightforwardly or by orchestrating an incredibly elaborate series of events. When he wants to be, he's very charismatic and convincing- and I can't say I've seen him operate out of less than good intentions in this particular line of canon.

His biggest mission in this series is making the world a better place, to ridiculous levels. When his natural mutant powers were at their peak, he spent his time using those powers to flood controlled parts of the Sahara, remove loggers from the Amazon rainforest, and to alleviate the suffering of pretty much everybody in the world who happened to be dying at the time. He raised his old ship parts from the sea to provide a refuge for people looking to live a life without borders and prejudice, and did whatever he could to keep the peace in that place. Cable built himself up as the epitome of good, practically a 'messiah,' and sacrificed himself/his powers for the sake of others several times throughout it all. He wants the world to be at peace, not like the future he came from, and he wants to help it however he can.

It becomes fairly clear through the issues, too, that he genuinely cares about people- a few in a select group in particular who are his closest friends and allies. Even pulling strings with them, arguing, splitting paths and meeting back up, the man isn't afraid to put his faith in someone once he thinks that he can, and it's just on impossible to shake that faith once he has. Sometimes his methods are shady or too extreme (I mean, planting a trigger in Wade's mind that would cause him to hallucinate the people he'd killed? kinda shady), but they always seem to come out of a real urge to help them become better people, or to keep them safe (sending Wade out to collect a statue that would just so happen to teleport him away from Providence while Nate stayed behind during the self-destruct, for example). Annnnd sometimes just to try to get them to see things his way- because he's used to getting his way.

While we're on that unshakeable faith matter, to make a quick detour, it would also be prudent to mention that Cable consistently, very doggedly, refuses to give up hope in his cause (you know, the future not ruled by Apocalypse and all). As far as he's concerned, giving up means that anything or anyone wanting him to do just that has won, and all the sacrifices that have been made for that cause would be diminished to pointless wastes of life and blood. It doesn't matter what's said to him, and it doesn't matter what he has to do working to keep the faith alive; he is going to make a better world. It has to happen, because he won't let it not. As you may be able to tell (or not, in which case, good thing I'm putting it in), Cable is very confident in his abilities, possibly even bordering arrogance. He knows that he's capable of a hell of a lot, and even a few things beyond what he should be capable of- quite a few things get treated with an almost-casual attitude, an air of knowing for sure what the outcome of things is going to be, despite all odds. If he knows someone, he knows someone. If he calls a bet, he's positive that that bet is gonna come through for him. Of course, there are always those rare cases where he bets wrong; he didn't expect Deadpool to turn on the X-Men and actually believe in his cause at all, and look at what happened there.

Not to say he's without flaws in character, or that these traits can't qualify as flaws, even. When Nate has his mind set on accomplishing something, like I just said, he'll get there. He gets extremely focused on the tasks that he sets for himself and refuses an alternative in his own particular ways. Handling the people around him just so, heading off for days at a time without a lot of forewarning, not letting people in on the plans he has laid... not to mention he consistently has a problem in priority-balancing. Cable often gets so caught up trying to accomplish what he thinks has to be done to improve the world centuries down the line that he completely disregards the wants/needs of getting things done on a day-to-day basis. Deadpool was always a really good foil for him in that regard.

And while all that serious humanity work did come from a genuine desire to better the world, it was actually a self-serving course of action as well. After combining DNA with Deadpool and inheriting a little bit of that healing factor, there wasn't a need to use his telepathy to keep a certain deadly virus at bay- and his powers started increasing exponentially from there on out. He knew that they'd get to be too much eventually, and actually wanted to be taken out before things got too far out of control, and he himself too far gone. Rising to power so quickly was bound to draw attention and opposition from some: someone needed to figure out how to eliminate the threat he'd pose, and he set the dominos up to be knocked over for that very purpose. Nobody would hire Deadpool for mercenary work after he helped to essentially lobotomize the man, and so he started anonymously hiring him for jobs that would help things come around the way he needed them to be. People can be friends and pawns all at once, sometimes. He'll give up a relationship now for an improved planet hundreds, even thousands of years from now, if he has to.

His willingness to give up his life where other people are involved, while noble, can also be linked back to all that time just being a soldier for a cause most people considered lost. For anyone else to sacrifice themselves for something he's struggling to achieve is almost unacceptable. But in a position where it's a viable option for him, he'll jump in the line of fire or blow his ass up without a second thought, for the greater good. He understands very well what it means to make quick decisions in strenuous circumstances, from matters of whether or not to fire on someone to staying behind to make sure none of the data stored on Providence would fall into the wrong hands, he's a man of war who's learned time and time again that sacrifices are sometimes necessary. He's also apparently come to the decision that he should be the one taking the big risks as often as possible.

So to summarize? Complex as all hell and kind of contradictory. Ruthless but compassionate, detached but always involved, manipulative but caring, very experienced but sometimes as stubborn and immature as a child; he can go from being serious and stoic to terrifyingly angry to being very placid and even willing to toss around the banter and light joking, all depending on the situation and who he's surrounded by. Some things that he takes in stride are issues that would throw others completely off-guard. He'll do whatever he feels he has to for the greater good, or just to keep his loved ones alive and well, for all that he's not going to openly express 99% of his softer emotions. He is pretty much kung-fu-action-jesus, but with a side of a self-serving, knows-everything attitude and genuine vulnerability.

Character Name: Rzeczpospolita Polska, Poland, Feliks Łukasiewicz, (Feh-leeks Wuh-kah-sya-vitch)
Character Series: Hetalia: Axis Powers / World Series
Character Age: 1000 something. He appears as 19.
Background:
Poland's Character Wikipage - http://hetalia.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Poland
History of Poland Wikipage - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Poland

Personality: Poland's personality is varying to the point that it's difficult to pin down. Poland is a problematical person to get to know as he is incredibly shy and introverted upon first meeting him. He gets so nervous that he doesn’t even feel comfortable talking and appears visibly anxious usually hiding behind people or objects. He's very wary of strangers and it takes him ages to come out of his shell.

Once he feels comfortable around a person however, he's the complete opposite. He's flamboyant, energetic, talkative, goofy, and always getting into trouble. Having lived with Lithuania, who was for the most part a complete pushover when it came to Poland‘s whims, Poland tends to treat those around him like his lackeys and can frequently be regarded to as a burden on those around him due to his crazy antics and overbearing personality.

Partial to cross dressing, Poland feels that looking cute shouldn't be limited to something as superficial as gender. He also likes hair accessories such as clips, ribbons and hair ties and uses them liberally. He enjoys cute things, Polish foods (particularly paluszki), pansies and corn poppies. He loves horses, more specifically ponies, and is also a very dedicated and religious to the Roman Catholic Church.

Poland gets along best with Lithuania and likewise the two countries seem to bring out the best in one another. The more dominate personality of the two, Poland tends to treat Lithuania like his personal lackey, but always with the best of intentions. He's very protective over Lithuania and acts as his personal advocate against Russia and anything else that might harm his well-being.

When Poland does get into trouble whether or his own doing or at the hands of another country, he usually comes out of it okay thanks to his positive outlook, strong sense of self confidence and unyielding determination to continue on. His inability to be completely defeated has made many liken him to that of a phoenix continually rising from its own ashes.

Poland is no longer the powerful country he was when he was apart of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, however. His time of power has long since passed and even then he wasn’t very strong to begin with preferring to focus on being an agricultural power.

His influence is minimal and has to rely on America and other more prominent world powers frequently. He doesn’t make friends easily due to shyness and is a difficult person to get along with due to his strong unyielding personality.

He's never been a particularly strong fighter on the battlefield and generally relied on Lithuania's training and skills as a warrior. In a fight without weapons he probably wouldn’t inflict much damage on the other party given his small stature and build, but would stubbornly refuse to stop fighting until he was completely inebriated by the other party.

He has a long history of being the victim of constant bullying by countries around him, (although sometimes he instigated it). Even now he's still some what threatened by Russia's antics.

He harbors a deep hatred for Russia and everything associated with Russia. Russia has continually attempted to partition Poland over the centuries, acting as an unrelenting, vicious antagonist in Poland's eyes. He refuses to allow himself to be frightened by Russia however, and will stand up against him resulting in constant confrontation between the two countries.

Abilities: As a nation, Poland is theoretically immortal. This grants him a life much longer than that of the average human and an immunity to most things that would kill the average human. He can only really die when he ceases to exist as a nation and his health is dependent on things like the state of his economy.

Preferred Housing: In a house with Snow Villiers, please! Steve and I have agreed on this. B)

Character Name: Miakis
Character Series: Suikoden V
Character Age: 23 or so.
Background: Here and here!

Personality: Miakis is not exactly the kind of person one would expect to see among the elite Queen's Knights of Falena. A silly, somewhat quirky girl, she is known best for her off-the-wall comments and sarcastic sense of humor. She's also the type of person who will threaten to disembowel you if you pose a threat to her charge, all while wearing a biiiig smile on her face. A very playful person, she takes a lot of pleasure in teasing people, especially those she's closest to. This naturally makes her liege, Lymsleia, her most frequent target. ('Hey, Princess, your brother is competing in the Sacred Games! Better hope he loses, or you'll have to marry him~...' She has also told Lym that the Sun Palace is haunted, and monsters live under her bed. TROLL ALERT) Despite her oddities, she is remarkably easy to get along with.

However, her goofy attitude doesn't necessarily mean that she is completely incapable of being serious. As a matter of fact, she takes her position as a knight and royal bodyguard very, very seriously -- she is definitely not one to slack in her duties. And despite all the teasing she puts her through, Miakis thinks of Lymsleia as her own sister and would gladly lay down her life for her tiny Queen. The same goes for Lymsleia's brother, Prince Frey: when his own bodyguard, Lyon, was incapacitated during the Queen's Campaign, Miakis vowed to take her place until the other knight was feeling well again. She is loyal to a fault, both to her country and its royal family, and she would never abandon her duty.

She can also be incredibly quick to hold a grudge. When she learned that Georg Prime, her fellow Queen's Knight and the man who killed Queen Arshtat, was among Prince Frey's allies, she was absolutely livid and would have killed him herself if she'd had the chance. However, she is just as quick to let go of these grudges if she has good reason to. When she learned the truth behind Arshtat's death, she immediately forgave Georg, feeling very ashamed of her harsh words.

And although she is an incredibly upbeat and optimistic person, Miakis is prone to the occasional bout of depression. Being removed from her position as Lymsleia's bodyguard is the best example of this: after this happened, she became uncharacteristically melancholy and completely immersed herself in her duties as a knight. This led to her fighting against her dear friend Prince Frey, who was able to (literally) beat some sense into her. She is usually very quick to bounce back from these random emo attacks, though, leaving her with the task of cheering up everyone else around her.

Abilities: Miakis is an exceptional fighter! She's been known to win spars against guys much bigger and tougher-looking than her, because while she is kind of small, she's quick on her feet and knows how to kick ass. Her weapon of choice is a pair of twin daggers, but she is just as skilled, if not moreso, with magic. The kind of magic depends on the kind of runes she has equipped, and she's proficient in most kinds of magic (which are generally broken down by elements). She's already regained the Cyclone, Shield, and Rage runes.

Cyclone:
1. Healing Wind: Fully restores the HP of one ally and cures their debuffs.
2. The Shredding: 200+ damage to all enemies.
3. Funeral Wind: 300+ damage to all foes. 50% chance to KO.
4. Shining Wind: 500+ damage to all foes, and 300 HP recover to all allies.

Shield:
1. Battle Oath: 40% chance to provoke fury on allies. (Fury is... pretty much a berserk buff? Except you can still control the character. Basically you get RLY MAD which makes you stronger. Idk, video game logic.)
2. Great Blessing: Restores 200 HP to all allies.
3. Battlefield: Raises the power of all allies' magic for three turns.

Rage:
1. Dancing Flames: 200 damage to enemy area; can inflict Burn (5% of max HP lost per turn).
2. Blazing Wall: 300 damage to enemy row; can inflict Burn.
3. Explosion: 700 damage to all enemies; can inflict Burn.
4. Final Flame: 1200 damage to all enemies; can inflict Burn.

Sample Entry:

Character Name: Wade Wilson (Deadpool)
Character Series: Marvel Comics
Character Age: Adult, real age unknown
Background: Here we go
Personality: Deadpool is, to put it mildly, completely fucking insane. His thoughts follow very bizarre twists of logic, jumping from point A to station 9 and a half with nothing to connect them in between save for Bea Arthur and possibly pineapples. He's so crazy that not only can he see his thoughts in little yellow dialogue boxes and even talk to them, but he's convinced that he's in a comic book. And he'll let you know exactly just how insane he is, have no fear. There is absolutely no filter between Deadpool's mind and his mouth; he'll ramble on about the price of chimichangas in Peru all while putting a bullet through a guy's head. He often acts like a hyperactive little kid, one with no attention span and a love of extreme violence. He's extremely annoying, constantly making immature wisecracks, and he will never, ever shut up. Not during stealth missions, not during fights, not even when he has his head chopped off.

This insanity doesn't exactly help in his line of work as a mercenary for hire. While Deadpool is extremely good at the 'killing people' part, he's not quite as adept at the 'secretive' part, or the 'loyalty to your employer' part, or even the 'remember who the target is' part. He's about as subtle as a brick wall dressed in a neon tutu and dancing the Macarena; he's incredibly reckless and will go charging straight into gunfire and fights where he's hopelessly outnumbered, cackling and cracking jokes the entire way. It helps, of course, that he has a healing factor and can recover from just about any injury, leading him to often seek out dangerous and bloody battles just for shits and giggles...and then several issues later, wear a dress to hide from monkey hitmen because come on, getting shot hurts. (Have we mentioned the insane part yet? Consistent characterization is for people who aren't having their brains constantly changing and healing itself thanks to their regeneration power.)

He's also unfortunately not exactly the brightest bulb in the box, what with having dropped out of high school and all. It's quite easy to manipulate Deadpool initially, as he's often either too thick or just doesn't care enough to question his orders; on the other hand, he's so unpredictable that any attempt to rely on him may backfire wildly. He's been known to both try to kill and save people's lives for no reason other than 'he felt like it' – sometimes even the same people on the same day. That said, though, Deadpool's certainly not stupid – he can speak seven different languages fluently – he just can't focus enough to ever put his intelligence to its full potential. He actually can be quite clever when he puts his mind to it; for example, he manages to trick the entire X-Men team and the public into believing that he's a menace who needed to be stopped, when really, his goal was to just improve the X-Men's image and make them look like heroes for bringing down the mad merc.

As is probably obvious by now, Deadpool is a character full of contradictions, and his morals are no different. He's done some incredibly heinous acts in his lifetime, such as keeping a blind old woman as his prisoner and locking her in a tiny room filled with sharp objects when he's angry at her; on the other hand, he's also shown so much remorse for this and kindness towards her that she forgave him and can't help staying with him voluntarily, even when he offers her freedom. He goes above and beyond the call of duty to help out his (dubiously) heterosexual life partner, turning down the best job offer he's ever had because he believed in him and stealing alien embryos to save his life even though he wasn't getting paid for it; a few issues later, he's gunning down that same partner because the government hired him to. There are certain lines he won't cross though: he won't hurt kids ever. He makes friends easily because of how charismatic and crazy awesome he is, then loses them just as easily due to his selfishness and insanity. Deep down, Deadpool is actually a bitterly, bitterly lonely person who's convinced that no one will ever stay with him because he knows just how terrible of a human being he really is; it also doesn't help that underneath the mask, he's actually hideously scarred and deformed, driving even more people away. His worst fear is to be alone forever; despite all his outward protests to the contrary, he really just wants to be respected and cared about.

That said, he's acknowledged this fear to himself and how morally reprehensible he is, and he constantly strives to fix himself, to be like the superheroes who don't have to think hard on what's right and what's wrong. Deadpool is a chaotic neutral character who desperately wants to be chaotic good, but always falls just a few straws short. There have been a couple of times when he's tried not to kill anyone – not because he found anything wrong with it, but because he knows that Good Guys do, and he wants so badly to be a Good Guy, to be acknowledged and admired like the X-Men and the Avengers and all those other shiny characters on the side of Justice. Unfortunately, it never quite turns out as he planned, whether due to him screwing it up or circumstances beyond his control, and he goes back to being the ruthless mercenary with little regard for human life. He's really not a bad guy, though, for all of his instability and insanity; when push comes to shove, Deadpool usually winds up siding with the right side, even if he has to be bribed, blackmailed, and cajoled into it.

Abilities: The biggest one is his healing factor. He's virtually indestructible; he can regrow and reattach any of his limbs or organs, including his head. This healing factor also gives him superhuman stamina and speed, as his muscle cells are constantly regenerating and don't tire out the way a normal human's would. He's also mostly immune to telepaths and the like because his brain cells are constantly in flux.

His insanity is also an ability! Deadpool has terminal cancer that is constantly being fought back by his healing factor, resulting in his skin and brain being incredibly messed up. This allows him to completely shatter the fourth wall; he's well aware that he's in a comic book (and has been in video games and movies), and can even see his own inner monologue boxes. Once he regains this ability, he will be aware that he's in an LJRP, although he won't actually do anything about it other than make the occasional reference and joke, because again, completely insane. (This power is more for humor's sake than anything else; Deadpool's not going to be less wary of Lucy Smith because he knows she's an NPC being played by the mods, for example. Mayfield is still going to be his world, if that makes sense.)

As for learned abilities that he'll be arriving with, he is very strong, although not to a superhuman extent – he's recorded as having the strength of an Olympic level weightlifter. He's also an extremely good shot and insanely good with blades, especially his twin katanas; he's on record as probably being one of, if not the, best swordsmen in the Marvel Universe. Basically, he's as good a fighter as you'd expect from a superhero, even if he doesn't exactly fit the billing.

Although I'm resetting his memories, he'll be arriving with all of his regains from his past stay at Mayfield: his costume, his katanas, his teleporter, and his regeneration.

Character Age: Physically 15, has existed for at least 600 years. Likely to be older than that.
Background:
General background [Wikipedia]
Character information [Hetalia archives]

Latvia is taken from a modern day setting so all history is applicable.

Personality:
At a glance, Latvia appears to be quite a quiet boy. Usually there’s a sense of unease about him, as if something terrible could happen at any moment. Over the course of his life he’s endured many hardships and while he’s managed to make it through, it has left him a little worse for wear.

One notable thing about him is that he tends to wear his heart on his sleeve. As it turns out, most of the time his heart is fairly skittish and nervous. Whenever he feels like this, he has a tendency to start shaking. This can range from a slight tremble to immobilizing quaking depending on how threatening and scary the situation seems to be. In extreme cases, Latvia may also have trouble speaking however this seems to rarely happen.

This kind of submissive personality comes from years of being beaten up and forced to live with other nations. Latvia is by no means a total pushover though. Despite his chronic bad luck and uncanny ability to injure himself he can pull through against all odds, crying and complaining all the while. If it were up to him, he would much rather take it easy and spend time with a good book or something to drink so these kinds of unbelievable feats only really happen when he’s ordered to or it’s imperative to his own safety and comfort.

A lot of the time he’ll want to rely on people in order to make things easier on himself. On the other hand he doesn’t want these people to control him either. In the end he feels somewhat lonely. There’s nothing that Latvia would want more than an older brother or sister to rely on and keep him company. Unfortunately his socials skills are a little awkward. For most people he’s extremely polite, even to those he may hold some resentment to (and he will hold that resentment for a long time) but there are times when he can be a little blunt. Much in the same way he always shows his true emotions, he often speaks without thinking and can say things that may be considered rude. Sometimes it’s by accident, sometimes it may be a passive aggressive act since he isn’t much of a fighter. In large conflicts he would like to stay neutral but often gets dragged in anyway.

While Latvia may be polite to most, when it comes to people younger or smaller than him he will often try and assert authority over them in strange ways. Despite his attempts he almost always ends up shrinking back and becoming more submissive. The desire to be in a more dominant position probably stems from a combination of the fact he’s always been a subordinate throughout his life and frustration he feels from having such a young body. He’s existed for centuries and wants to be treated as an adult, considering himself fairly mature despite showing childish mannerisms at times. Some of his hobbies, his drinking habit especially, are a little more adult and Latvia hates being denied these things or patronized because of his appearance. His shorter than average stature doesn’t help in the slightest.

Making friends may be a struggle but if you form a good relationship with him, Latvia is undoubtedly a loyal companion. He’ll look out for those he’s close to, even when it isn’t convenient or he becomes frustrated by them. After trying and failing to cut out bad relationships he knows how good the good ones really are.

Abilities:
Due to his status as a nation Latvia shares a link with his people and his land. Because of this he displays a degree of immortality and supposedly can’t be killed unless the country of Latvia ceases to exist, even then it’s a little sketchy. In the event of physical injury, healing is extremely quick.

Also, he can drink forty cups of alcohol before it completely incapacitates him.

Sample Entry:
Previous Mayfield entry

If possible I'd like to re-apply him with his regains and memories intact (albeit somewhat fuzzy at first).

Re: Riku | Kingdom Hearts series | Reserved

[personal profile] numberonemouseketeer 2012-09-29 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: When we are introduced to Riku in the first Kingdom Hearts game, he seemed superior to his best friend Sora in almost every way. He was physically stronger, more intelligent and was basically ‘cool, calm and collected’ - while he was not completely incapable of losing his temper, Riku was pretty good at keeping a level head when situations got rough and preferred to respond to his enemies with snark rather than blowing his top off (unless he was provoked enough). He was one of the eldest of the children on Destiny Islands and many of his peers admired him for his strength and sword fighting skills.

Nobody is perfect, however, and Riku is no exception. While smart and athletic, he was also arrogant, insecure and secretly jealous of Sora’s carefree nature and ability to bond with other people quickly. All of this made the boy vulnerable to manipulation. He was manipulated by Maleficent into joining her side, fought against Sora and was eventually tricked by Xehanort into letting his body become possessed by the other man. As a result, Riku, under Xehanort’s control, nearly ended up destroying the entire universe and it was Sora who saved him.

Thankfully, it was all this that made Riku realise how terrible his actions were and now he works hard to make up for his wrongdoings.

Riku has changed a great deal over the course of the Kingdom Hearts games and up to Blank Points. While he still keeps a calm and relaxed demeanor, a lot of his arrogance has completely gone, due to the shame of what he did. If anything, Riku can now be incredibly hard on himself. Once somebody who thought that he deserved to use the power of the Keyblade more than Sora, he now doubts whether he has any right to wield one.

However, it would be wrong think that because Riku is unsure of himself that he would completely give up and do nothing. Despite the fact that he has tons of insecurity issues, Riku will not just sit down and sulk. Even after being freed from Xehanort’s possession, Xehanort’s heartless rests deep inside the boy’s heart. While Xehanort is one reason for Riku’s insecurities, Riku has been pretty stubborn and determined not to be taken over and controlled again. Even when Riku learns to accept both the light and darkness as a part of him (when he previously feared the darkness), he still resists Xehanort’s attempts to take over him. This is why he managed to take on Xehanort’s appearance without Xehanort being able to control him.

However, even when Riku thinks that he is completely at the deep end to the point there is no way he can crawl back out himself, he will be stubborn enough to look for whatever way he can help his friends (if he can). Ever since Riku was a child, he dreamed of exploring the world outside the secluded islands he grew up in so that he could gain the strength to protect what was important to him, including his friends (this was shown in his conversation with Terra in Birth By Sleep). Even now, he still resolves to do that even if his own situation seems hopeless. When Riku sacrificed his body and took on Xehanort's appearance to defeat Roxas and wake Sora up, he was too ashamed to let Sora and Kairi (his other best friend) see him and was unsure if he could ever be reunited with them and return home with them again. However, that did not stop Riku from helping his friends out behind the scenes (such as rescuing Kairi from Saix or giving Sora a picture of Roxas during the Hollow Bastion attack to help him on his quest). If there is no hope for him to return home then at least he might be able to aid Sora on his quest.

This brings us to another point of Riku’s character – that he is fiercely protective of his friends. He will do anything for them and would probably give his life if he had to. Needless to say, this can get him into trouble. The most obvious example of this was when he and Sora fought Xemnas and during the fight, he quickly intervened to protect his friend. Unfortunately, this left Riku severely injured to the point of being unable to walk.

As well as being protective of his friends, Riku can show compassion even to those he does not know that well (which is a big change from the first game where he kidnapped Pinocchio and Jasmine to get Kairi’s heart back without seemingly any concern to how Pinocchio and Jasmine felt). In 358/2 Days, he helped Xion, who was a member of the Organization, only because he ‘felt like it’, and even felt sympathy for Roxas after defeating and capturing him to put him in a simulated town with fake friends as part of the process of joining Roxas back with Sora to wake Sora up. This was a contrast to DiZ, who just dismissed Roxas’ fate as ‘the fate of a Nobody’. That, and while Riku felt that capturing Roxas was necessary at the time (even though he was not completely comfortable with it), he became disgusted when he discovered that he did was part of DiZ’s plan for revenge (as shown when he curls his fist when DiZ tells him of his goal).

However, it would be a mistake to forget that Riku is not Sora. While he does have a compassionate heart, Riku does not have Sora’s ability to bond with people and make friends quickly. If anything, Riku’s social skills can be absolutely terrible. One good example of this was when he walked away from Shiki after saving her and she told him off for it, after which Riku replied, “I’m bad at this. Sorry.” He also became horribly flustered when Shiki called him her ‘knight in shining armour’, to which she replied that she was teasing him and that he needed to get out more. Riku is not intentionally mean to other people (unless he doesn’t like you – which he really won’t hide) and certainly not antisocial like Squall from Final Fantasy VIII is, but he can come across as unfriendly and cold to someone who does not know him well enough .

Riku is also a rather introverted person. In the first game, he hated other people seeing his weaknesses and insecurities, wanting to be the superior friend to Sora and the tough and mature big brother to both him and Kairi. By the end of the second game, while he has accepted his weaknesses and is no longer trying to compete with Sora (or if he still does, it wouldn’t be in such a serious manner), Riku still likes to at times act tough and pretend that things are all right when they are not. After he is injured from his and Sora’s battle with Xemnas and he is carried by Sora to the dark beach, Riku decides to walk on his own, insisting to Sora that he is fine. Unfortunately, the poor lad collapsed just seconds afterwards. That said, towards the end of KH II, thanks to Sora and the others, Riku is starting to open up to his friends. He still has some ways to go but he is getting better – he even admits to Sora his jealousy towards him at the end of Kingdom Hearts II.

If you do gain Riku’s friendship, however, you will find not only a devoted friend but also one who will often tease you at your own expense. Those who get to know Riku a little will discover that he enjoys poking fun at people he cares about although his jokes are never mean-spirited. Despite having been through a lot, Riku’s dry sense of humour has never seemed to completely disappeared – probably because the fact that he had Mickey Mouse as a companion during Chain of Memories and sometime after that. While Riku was having issues regarding his darkness and Xehanort, Mickey encouraged him to keep going and stay strong. In Kingdom Hearts II, Riku jokingly told Sora that he ‘never picked the brightest of friends’ for not working out that he had been helping him, Donald and Goofy behind the scenes. He also once called Sora a ‘total sap’ for encouraging him to rely on his friends more. Again, this was all meant in good spirit – if Riku pokes fun at you, it probably means that he likes you!

Riku is one of the most complicated characters the Kingdom Hearts series. However, he has gradually turned from a well-meaning but arrogant boy who did terrible things to a repentant boy who wanted to make up for what he had done to a hero. While Riku was originally chosen as a Keyblade wielder and had lost that power because of his recklessness and selfishness. However, because of his strong desire to make up for what he did and to help those he cares about, he regains that power. I am taking Riku from Blank Points, which is after he returns home in Kingdom Hearts II but before Kingdom Hearts 3D, when he takes the Mark of Mastery Exam. At this point, Riku has started to forgive himself for his actions in the first game. He still has self-esteem issues doubts about whether or not he should have the right to wield a Keyblade but he is giving himself a chance – which is why he is about to partake in the Mask of Mastery Exam.

Character Age: Appears to be 20, but has been around in the form of the unified German Empire since the Franco-Prussian War in 1871 at the latest. Thanks to German history's tendency to be very complex and fluid, made up of separate states for much of the time, it is generally accepted by the fandom that the character "Germany" existed before 1871 as a child under Prussia's care, though for how long, it remains unknown.
Background:

Hetalia wiki | A Brief History of Germany

Germany will be taken from part-way through World War II, before it ends, so roughly 1941, after Japan and Italy joined the fight and Germany had attempted and failed to take over Moscow. I wish for him to retain memories of his first stay at Mayfield from June 2009 to April 2010, as well as his memories from his second stay from November 2010 to April 2011.

Hetalia's Germany is mostly based around the events of WWI and WWII; after the humiliation of the Treaty of Versailles, and the rising of his new crazy "boss" (known to you and I as Adolf Hitler, dictator and leader of the National Socialist German Workers' Party), Germany ups his military and invades Poland, starting World War II. He allies with Italy, although that never seems to work to his advantage, given the amount of time he has to spend saving his ally's sorry bottom. He also allies with Japan, and together these three make the Axis Powers, made official by the Tripartite Pact in 1940. Russia also would (attempt) to ally with Germany in exchange for part of Finland, but Germany never really had any intention of going through with that, made evident by his advances into Russian territory in the second half of 1941. In general, Hetalia narrates for the audience the various alliances and cultural exchanges that occurred in history, and with Germany it focuses on those that I outlined above.

Activities that Germany is usually occupied with throughout most comic strips include leading training for Italy and Japan, wandering about Italy's house (the geographic location), dealing with Austria at home and taking care of him or making sure he isn't kidnapped, beating up people who try to beat up Italy, getting stranded on (seemingly) deserted islands with Japan and Italy, and trying to research how to deal with Italians. A good portion of his screen time reflects his habits during his every day life, even though the events depicted are specifically happening during WWII.

Personality:

Germany is very serious.

He's serious about winning wars, and to him, victory comes through raw effort, determination, and strict discipline. Even though he's not sure that his boss has his head screwed on tight (why is he ordering for Germany to run around looking for the legendary Holy Grail...?), he follows any order down to the letter. He will never give up, and never surrender. When captured and tortured, he refuses to let out any information to the enemy at all, which also demonstrates his passionate sense of loyalty. According to the Hetalia author, heaven on earth is when you have a German for an engineer, and hell on earth is when you have a German for a police officer.

Germany is very serious.

Outside of winning battles, however, Germany may possess some faults. He allies with Italy, the heir to the legendary Roman Empire, but can't for the life of him just leave the pathetic country alone. Much of the wartime is spent with Italy getting in trouble somewhere, and Germany having to run over and rescue him. There is a general feel that Germany and Italy care for each other very deeply, illustrated literally in a famous painting by Friedrich Overbeck. It's true that through much of the war, Germany took extra-special care of Italy, both by saving his butt in battles and supplying him with (actual working) ammo and grenades. Even when Italian troops ran away from battle and Germans found them hitting on girls or hanging out in a restaurant, Germany kept on taking care of Italy. It was an official alliance, after all.

Germany is very serious.

If he doesn't know how to do something, or is presented with something that doesn't make sense to him, he solves the problem by researching it, of course. It doesn't always go as planned; in fact, he's so terrible with modern technology that if someone takes out a GPS, he is suddenly struck with the urge to use the restroom. Besides that, though, he turns to books whenever a problem he's unfamiliar with presents himself. It's too bad that there aren't many good books out there to explain Why Italians Are So Useless or What To Do When You Think Someone Has Fallen In Love With You. Regardless, Germany will follow the directions to the letter, even if it doesn't end up well for him, thanks to his obliviousness to the atmosphere in a room.

GERMANY IS VERY SERIOUS.

--That aside, the remaining traits that make Germany, Germany might be summed up by the following. He doesn't see a problem walking around shirtless if it's very hot outside. His hobbies include cleaning, baking, and walking his dog. He isn't very embarrassed when it comes to personal space, although he does think Italy is very weird for wanting to sleep naked in the same bed as him. He doesn't seem to ever want to make friends with England or France, not in the slightest, and it can be assumed that he can't stand America either (although past events at Mayfield changed his mind). He obsesses over Italy's short-comings more than is good for his blood pressure, at one point wishing on a star that it would all just be cured and go away. He is very straight-forward, and doesn't know how to beat around the bush with delicate matters. Even though Italy drives him up the wall, he admits out loud that he doesn't hate him, and wishes to stay his friend.
