Applications

• Please read over all the rules and information before applying in order to minimize any confusion before joining.

• If applying for a character that has already been dropped, it would be a good idea, though not required, to know something of their previous interactions. You are also free to pick up a dropped character with no memories of their previous time in Mayfield.

• All content for the personality and sample entry in your app must be written or roleplayed by you; for the personality section in particular, we do not accept copied text from wikis or other sources. Obviously, you may not copy your app from other players, whether in Mayfield or other games. Application plagiarism will result in a ban from the game.

• If you wish for your character to be placed in a specific house, please mention this in the relevant section of the application and specify that permission was obtained by the PCs already residing in that house. We will be operating by the Honor System for this, and there is no need for others to comment their permission in this post!

• Other special requests would also best go in the beginning of the application. Remember, grammar and spelling are important -- if your app contains errors, you will be asked to revise.

• Please post all applications or canon updates in this post; posting them elsewhere and linking to them from here may cause them to get changed later. Posting them here keeps us from having to save them.

When Applying, Fill Out the Following:

When Applying for an Original Character, Fill Out the Following

• Before applying, please look over any applications that were recently accepted to get an idea of what we're looking for.

• If you apply for a character that has already been reserved, we will inform you and ignore the application until the reserve runs out. You may not apply for more than two characters from the same canon. For the sample entry, you may write your own entry, or use a post from a musebox, dressing room, or other game. We recommend [community profile] testrun_box if you prefer the latter!

• After you're accepted, please follow all of the instructions given. You will need to reply to the acceptance, post your journal to the friend add page and your canon post, join the communities, and use the friend add page to update your journal. Once you're accepted, please introduce yourself on the community when you're ready to play.

• If your app is "Pending", do not freak out! This means that we need you to make some revisions, and does not mean you're rejected. We generally give players a chance to revise before rejecting them, but we will reject apps that do not address the concerns stated when we asked for a revision. If you have been rejected, our reply will clearly state this to be the case. If we have not gotten back to you yet, under no circumstance does this mean you are rejected. If it has been over a week since our last reply, it would be a good idea to contact us with a reminder, otherwise, please be patient!

• If you have received a "Pending" notice, you will have one week to supply us with your revisions, or your reserve will be considered expired and that someone else is free to apply for the character.

• The typical wait for a reply on apps may be anywhere from a day to a little over a week. If any part of your application requires a pending, it may be another week after your reply to that before we can get to you. We process a high volume of apps every round, so please be patient.

If you have not heard back on a pending for over a week after apps close, please send a PM directly to the mod account.

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED.

Vash the Stampede | Trigun | Reserved

[personal profile] ex_ena753 2012-04-06 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Ena
Personal Journal: [personal profile] ena
Contact Info: AIM: luthienabler / Plurk: enabeans
Other Characters Played: Cain Knightlord, Alphonse Elric (also applying for Nabuca this round).
Preferred Housing: N/A - but please could he be housed with Schierke if she is apped this round (she would be in a child slot).

Character Name: Vash the Stampede
Character Series: Trigun
Character Age: 131
Background: Here

Personality: What can be said about Vash? On the surface he appears to be nothing more than an idiot with a penchant for pretty ladies and an uncanny ability to get himself into trouble, but the 'sixty billion double dollar man' has more than a few facets to his personality.

The first is the face that he shows the world, the one of the harmless and melodramatic idiot. He is just as liable to scream in terror when faced with enemies and sob like a baby if his food is taken away from him. He often makes light of the situations he finds himself in; indeed, he sometimes appears to be oblivious to the fact he's in danger at all. He appears oblivious and naive, falling for outrageous sob stories hook, line and sinker, and always seems willing to give people the benefit of the doubt. His escapes from being injured seem to be dumb luck most of the time, only narrowly avoiding the bullets that would have killed him because he happened to be falling over his own feet at the time. However, these exaggerated smiles are not all that they seem, and Wolfwood is the first to notice that it's just empty behind them.

He is carrying a heavy burden of guilt for horrible incidents in his past, including feeling partially responsible for Knives killing the crew and Rem, as well as what happened in July and Augusta. These two cities were decimated and their populations left homeless and tearing one another apart, because an ability of Vash's (the angel arm) was activated and destroyed everything. Even though he didn't mean to cause destruction either of those times, he still blames himself fully for what happened and even apologises to one of the survivors that he couldn't die to fulfil her revenge - the only reason he cites, is that if he had died in an explosion, other people would have been hurt too and he couldn't allow that.

He deeply cares for everyone around him - friend, enemy and stranger - and would do anything he possibly could to save a life. This is partially because of a promise he made to the memory of a woman he loved - Rem believed that nobody ever had the right to take another life, and that there was always another way. Vash has taken this lesson completely to heart and absolutely will not take a life; as a consequence his body is littered with patchwork scars and wounds, but this is a price he gladly pays. He becomes visibly distressed when people die around him, angry at those who kill and demanding why they would do such a thing, as well as crying genuine tears over even the corpses of strangers. Near the end of the series, Vash is forced into an impossible choice of watching two of his closest companions die, or killing himself. He chose to pull the trigger and end a life for the first time, which left him so devastated that he became almost inconsolable.

In many ways he is a childish coward, running from the things that hurt and frighten him. He is terrified to let people get close to him because destruction and pain follow on his heels, as well as frightened to let them know the truth of his past, so he hides everything behind foolishness and smiles. After the second incident with the angel arm in Augusta, he is so ashamed of himself that he shucks his identity and goes into hiding as 'Eriks', going to ground until Wolfwood shows up and forces him to realise that he can't hide forever. Vash is a deeply compassionate man who wants to save 'the spiders and the butterflies', even if that is an idealistic way to think, and he thinks death by any means is the worst tragedy there is.

Abilities: As a Plant, Vash ages differently and seems to have frozen in his mid twenties over the last century. He has exceptional abilities with the 'Lost Technology' of his world (namely the plants, who are like his brethren), it was also canonly stated that both he and his twin brother possessed genius intellect surpassing human capability. His reflexes and senses are perfectly attuned and he is easily capable of dodging a spray of bullets, as well as hearing and seeing things too quiet or far away for others to notice.

Having been practising gunplay for the last century, he is also an expert marksman and always hits his target. He is more durable than humans, though he doesn't possess a 'healing ability' per se, he just tends to heal a little faster. Inside his gun, one of a pair that were manufactured by Knives, there is a weapon called the Angel Arm. This connects with his right arm and expands to create light energy, which is then released in a powerful beam capable of decimating entire cities and even putting a hole in the moon. He is also missing his left arm, which has been replaced by a cybernetic replacement with a hidden gun compartment.

Character Age: Unknown. Physically looks to be somewhere in his early to mid 20s.

Black Dainn | Boktai | Reserved | 2/?

[personal profile] shadow_immortal 2012-04-06 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Background: Dainn first shows up after Django has the Solar Gun stolen by a vampire, giving orders to his sister to continue growing the Dark Seeds and to stop Django from interfering with his plans. He finally shows up in person in the Remains after the battle with the vampire-turned Ringo and kidnaps Otenko before disappearing. He makes his next appearance in Dark City, first as a voice teaching Django how to use his new-found powers of Darkness and then in person where he tries to convince the former Solar Boy to join them in riding the planet of humans, though the conversation is interrupted by Ringo who has regained his memories thanks to Django's Lunar Blood. Ringo attacks the Shadow Immortal while Django faces off against Durathror in the next room.

Dainn is unheard of for awhile, disappearing along with Ringo after the fight with Durathror, but Django soon encounters his father again in the Aqueduct and is told to gather up some Tarot cards to break the seal on the dungeon because he's afraid Dainn is there. It turns out to be a trap and Sabata tries to intervene but it's too late. Ringo takes the cards, revealing that he's been possessed by Dainn, and takes off inside the dungeon to release the next Seal. He succeeds in doing this and leaves Django to fight off Dvalinn.

Finally the brothers encounter Dainn for the last time on top of Spiral Tower where he reveals his plan: to release the seals binding the Doomsday Beast Jormungandr to destroy the human race. He releases the final Seal and fights Django and Sabata, first in Ringo's body and then knocking out Sabata and leaving Ringo's body to fight the Solar Boy one-on-one. However, Dainn loses and is soon purified along with Ringo in the Piledriver. This is when he winds up in Mayfield.

Personality: The first thing someone may notice, if they do notice, is that Dainn is an extremely manipulative person. The Shadow Immortal is content to move the pieces and let others do the dirty work for him and enjoys playing on people's emotions. With his power to possess other people he is well suited for this task. He also possesses a good sense of foresight, sending the Count to turn Ringo into a vampire so he could have a body, an event that takes place in the first game, and sent him to spy on Hel (though that slightly backfired on him when the Count fell in love with her instead). Dainn is a very good actor as well, able to pose as Ringo long enough to fool Django into unlocking the way to one of the Seals.

Despite believing that Immortals are better than humans, Dainn holds a sense of dislike for his own kind. He calls the Count useless and a fool for falling in love with Hel and the Queen herself as a joke. He believes himself to be the true Dark Child, something that annoys Sabata. Dainn views someone's "true self" as an illusion and easily changeable, like light and darkness. Sabata calls Dainn a twisted being and it's very true. He's capable of caring for someone but that only extends to his sisters (he's suggested to have dotted on the youngest). Anyone else is someone to be used and discarded once they're done furthering his plans or are just plain useless.

Name: Catie
Personal Journal: darkjewel79.livejournal.com
Contact Info: AIM: Catie79, Plurk Catie79
Other Characters Played: N/A
Preferred Housing: N/A

Character Name: Caroline Martinez
Character Age: 22
Background: ((I apologize for the level of detail, this is a character taken from a long piece of fiction I have written and she is from about one third of the way through her story.))

General Background

In the reality that Caroline is from, Earth is exactly as anyone would recognize it. The year is 2010, people worry about the price of gas, global warming, and international terrorism. Modern Earth has little patience for magic or the supernatural, but that does not mean that it doesn’t exist. It means that the supernatural has simply gotten better at hiding. Magic is real.

Magic is controlling and moving natural energy. That’s it. In the case of a mage, they are born with an innate ability to move and control the energy associated with the universe in general. A trained mage can pull energy from the planet they are standing on, since that energy has a relationship with mass. The relationship is not completely understood, but the best source of free power is the closest planet (usually the one right under their feet). All mage techniques are based on the basic concept of collecting, changing, and using energy. Most species ‘see’ this energy with shades of color, but some species will ‘hear’ or even ‘smell’ energy instead.

Wizards do not have this natural ability. Instead, they use training and power of will to collect, change, and use energy. Training gives them the sensitivity required to feel energy and manipulate it. They cannot pull energy from the planet, reducing the amount of power at their control. However, their training results in very tight control over their own energy and allows them to perform delicate, complicated techniques.

A blood wizard or blood mage will kill another magic user for the boost of energy that provides. A blood mage can collect that energy and keep it, a blood wizard must use it right away. Killing a magic user for this reason is usually a messy, painful business for the victim.

Mages are able to build portals between locations (called ‘porting), including other planets if they’re strong enough. Both mages and wizards can communicate across great distances via telepathy. On most planets, mages are the power behind interplanetary travel and trade. Magic users in general are considered a normal part of society on any planet aside from Earth. Beings can even have jobs based on their abilities, providing skills the same way a technician or artist would be employed on Earth. There are dozens of planets that know of each other and have political relationships, whether good or bad.

Earth is left out due to the human fear of the supernatural and the unknown. Mages and wizards are underground. There is structure and training, but much of it is focused on keeping the magic users out of sight and safe. Like all other planets, Earth has a Master Mage responsible for the overall protection of the planet and dealing with the magic user population, and he is supported by six regional mages or wizards (one for each populated continent). For those magic users with the ability, the reasons, or the funding to hire a mage at a ‘port station, they can visit other planets and meet other species. There are several planets that are friendly to their ‘primitive’ neighbors and allow humans to play tourist. Friendships are easily maintained through telepathy, even across light years.

The deities have not been particularly active on Earth, which also helps to keep the magic users out of sight. Other planets are not so lucky and have had direct interference from the deities. Between the meddling and research from various species, most magic users around the universe are aware that reincarnation is a fact, though only one mortal in existence (the Guardian) can remember past lives, and that there are other planes of existence where souls can be found. The Material Plane is where the mortals live out their lives, the Astral plane is where souls can be found between lives and where the deities can be found. It’s not somewhere mortals can go while alive.

Personal History

In this reality, there is a twenty-two year old college student in Boston, Massachusetts that has just been accepted to law school and enjoys the local bar scene when she gets the opportunity.

Caroline graduated from high school with honors in El Paso, Texas and moved to Boston for a scholarship. She has three brothers (two older, one younger) and her house in El Paso also bustles with her mother, father, paternal grandmother, her aunt, and her niece. She is the picture of normalcy, if just a bit over-achieving. Her favorite drink is a chocolate milkshake and she has an unhealthy addiction to cheeseburgers with hot sauce and onion rings. She blames her mother’s cooking for her obsession with hot sauce. She enjoys it on eggs, french fries, and just about anything else. When at home, she loves helping her mom cook up carnitas with homemade corn tortillas. Her grandmother taught her how to make tortillas from scratch when she was young, but she still thinks her grandmother does a better job with them.

She enjoys running and participated in track through high school and into college. Her specialty was the 100 meter dash and she made it to the state finals in Texas. In college she participated on the track team, but quit during her junior year when her studies became too demanding. She works as a tutor for high school students to support herself and her little studio apartment just two blocks from campus. The entire apartment isn’t much bigger than her bedroom back home, but it’s all hers and she can make it to class in about five minutes if she’s in a hurry.

Caroline’s completely boring and normal life was up-ended when she saw a house on fire while out jogging on an early Saturday morning. She called 911, but also went to investigate. She made the reckless decision to go into the house when she heard a child crying. While she was inside, the roof burned through and collapsed. Her memories of the event are a blur that make no sense, but she woke up in the woods with a strange man watching over her. Her body was covered in cuts, like her skin had tried to split open. The man opened what appeared to be a dark tear in the empty air and carried her through it.

Lying on the couch in the strange man’s perfectly normal apartment in Illinois, the situation was explained to her. Caroline was a mage, and unless she learned to manage the abilities that had been forcefully woken up, she could tear herself apart. Her abilities were powerful and her body couldn’t handle the out of control surges. The strange man that had found her, James Gardener, knew her from a previous life and was there to keep her safe and alive. He was called the Guardian. She stayed the night so he could be sure she was under control, then he sent her back to Boston to continue on with her life but with some new drains on her time.

In order to protect Caroline from herself, James started to train her to control her abilities. Power without training made her dangerous to others and also made her a target for anyone looking for a power boost. Blood mages or blood wizards could torture and kill her to boost their own abilities. He could talk to her via telepathy to keep tabs on her, and also ‘ported to her apartment to check on her and train in person. After a small incident where she accidentally blew out a wall at her college, she was removed from classes and sent to the planet Masola for emergency training with a wyvern, Nova, and his apprentice, Jade. After two weeks of intensive work, she was allowed to return to her regular life and her college classes.

It’s been three months since her stay on Masola. She’s now a part of mage society, both on Earth and on other planets. She’s been cleared to ‘port on planet on her own (so long as she’s careful and warns James she’s going to make an attempt) and just recently had to ‘port to Dallas to help sort out a situation with a blood mage. This dual life is starting to wear on her relationship with her boyfriend, Brad. ‘Porting to Dallas cost her lunch with him, and the relationship is on thin ice. She can’t tell him why she’s taking off with little warning or why her nights are suddenly not available. Between her evasiveness and her distraction, he suspects she’s cheating on him.

She is also catching up with classes so that she can graduate on time and enter law school as planned. Being a mage certainly will not pay the bills.

Her current training is limited and she does not have much in the way of skills. Her potential far outstrips her control, so she keeps things throttled way back for the safety of herself and others. There are legends about her previous lives floating around, where she was called the Archmage, but like any other mortal (aside from James), she can’t remember them. She doesn’t truly believe they’re her. Considering those lives are linked to insanity and instability, it’s really for the best that way.

Considering the situation on Earth, Caroline will be very quiet about her abilities, at least at first. Once some have been regained, and she notices that some others have unusual abilities, she may relax enough to let others see what she can do, but she will always prefer to keep the cards very close to her chest.

Background:

Very briefly; in the thriteenth century up until the sixteenth century, what is now considered Belarus, was once the center of the Grand Duchy of Litva, sometimes called the Belarusian-Lithuanian state by historians. Its territory included what is now modern-day Belarus, as well as Lithuania, Ukraine, and part of Russia. Not only was Belarus the center of this state, but the primary language of the state was Belarusian.

The period between the 15th century and mid-17th century is considered Belarus' golden age and a time of great growth for Belarus' cities and towns. The Grand Duchy Statute, which came out in 1588, was the only full code of laws published in Europe since the Roman Law and the Napoleonic Code.

The Grand Duchy of Litva and the Polish Kingdom formed a political union which gave rise to the Litva-Poland confederation in the sixteenth century, which led to the lands being divided amongst Russia, Austria, and Prussia. Belarusian lands thus became part of the Russian empire. This lasted until the eighteenth century. Russia took away her name and her language, forcing her to speak only Russian, which could have easily caused her ficsation.

She was forced to assimilate and was called the North-Western Region of the Russian but would not stand for it. She, along with Poland and Lithuania, banded together to regain their rights and become independent. She was given a few of her rights back, including the ability to publish books and newspapers in her own language. However, true independence only came with the fall of the Russian monarchy near the end of World War I.

In December 1917, the All-Belarusan Congress opened in Minsk, giving birth to a new Belarusan state. Various peace treaties were signed and Belarus was divided into two parts, the Western half was given to Poland, then taken back as part of the BSSR.

During World War II, Belarus was occupied by Nazi Germany, although she resist the occupation. Many of the towns and villages of her people were burned down. On the 25th of August 1991, the BSSR Supreme Soviet declared the political and economic independence of Belarus. It's in fact just scared of others and that causes her to act mean to them, she sees Russia as a protection and wants to become one with him for that reason, or it could also be some kind of stockhome syndrome, or something along those lines and of course, even with everything that has happend that bond of being his sibling is still a big factor there. After being forced to forget herself and her own language for so long it can be true that she stuck to Russia for that reason.

http://www.belarus.by/en/about-belarus/history

http://aci.byelarus.com/index.php?p=5

http://www.belarusguide.com/as/history/history.html

Personality:

Belarus is an intimidating, cold, and she's beautiful and horrid at the same time. She's said to have 'a bit of a harsh atmosphere', and with her frigid stares and the chill of the knife in her hand, it's easy to have it weigh down on your shoulders. At first, she may not come off as too much of a nut - she's pretty blank very hard to drag much of anything out of. If not constantly sour, and of course that can't bode too badly in every case. Belarus is shown to carry around a knife at points, most notably in the Meeting Of The World strip where she's holding it to a traumatized Latvia's back as Russia scares him, but it wouldn't be surprising if she always held some kind of weapon with her at all times, due to her rough upbringing and unfourtune past events.

According to a footnote at the end of Russia's Big And Little Sisters in Hetalia volume 2, Belarus briefly became a sort of adoptive younger sister to America after the fall of the Soviet Union, which could mean that she still has some feelings towards him for helping her out and all. Her appearance as a Hetalia "desktop buddy" also reveals that she loves the occult, and that her favorite reading material was the Soviet newspaper Pravda. Latvia also mentions that Belarus has been into rock music as of late, might go with her rather rough personality.

To any others outside of her siblings, she's very cruel - especially if they're caring to her. It doesn't necessarily seem to be that she rejects the kindness; rather, it seems as though a vicious response is merely her default reaction, might also be a way to protect herself. She's strong, both in persistence and in mannerism. Her lovely feminine features and soft appeal are greatly contrasted by her sharp words, furrowed brow and blunt honesty. As Bela is sometimes seen as being absolutely bloody insane and will stab you with a knife in the bat of an eyelash, this is not actually the case. While Natalia is quite the stubborn one and one that is quick to anger if the right things are said -maybe insult someone she cares about-, she won’t just needlessly stab whoever crosses her path with a knife. Not to say that she won’t if you provoke her enough, but unlike some people think she won’t just stab you without good reason.

Still, this anger seems to be born greatly, though not fully, of hurt. Belarus is unable to comprehend that people aren't perfectly malleable. The fact that her brother doesn't love her as she loves him troubles her greatly, and her sister Ukraine, who's said to be recklessly dragged into trouble pretty often, is probably a - slightly hesitant - source of comfort... though, Ukraine is yet another person that Belarus is deeply jealous of.

So continues the pattern of emotional (and physical) abuse toward the people who love her. And, well. To everyone else, too. Her animosity towards the Baltics seems to be endless: however, she does have a bit of a soft spot for America (it's about the size of the one she holds for her sister Ukraine), thanks to his temporary adoption of her as a sibling following the fall of the USSR.

Natalia also isn't really that experienced in romantic relationships . . . at all. Which can be seen as she constantly pesters her brother to marry her, so things involving romance can be a tad awkward for her since she doesn't have much experience in that area.

At one point when she was still a part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, she had a large respect for Toris, although she now doesn't see the current Lithuania, the used to be house maid of Russia who allows himself to be walked all over at times, and the strong but gentle looking nation who used to rule most of Eastern Europe as the same person. In her eyes, she sees them as two different people. The respect that she had for Lithuania faded away along with the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in her eyes, so did the man, or nation rather, that he used to be. Of course, she will forever be very annoyed by him for taking her away from her brother.

Depending on the language Belarus is speaking, her personality will vary slightly. For example, when she speaks English (obviously her defaultly spoken language) she seems to have a bored or annoyed exterior, when she speaks Russian she tends to seem a bit more easily angered and tends to snap more quickly, when she speaks Belarusian she shows her emotions and expresses how she is feeling more easily, she will usually only speak complete sentences other than greetings and simple phrases with those she is close to or feels more safe around.

Belarus also knows Lithuanian and Polish from her time in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, but is extremely rare to hear her speak either of these languages unless something horribly ticked her. She does not like speaking of her time in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth or the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, it's a good way to make her snap at you. It brings out a lot of her emotions that she would rather not be feeling and memories that she finds to be best forgotten. It's probably for the best not to speak of it unless she is the one who brings it up.

Abilities: Immortatly of a country, that and she has lots of talent with blades?

Character Name: Nepeta Leijon
Character Series: Homestuck
Character Age: 6 Alternian Sweeps (Roughly 13 years)
Background: http://mspaintadventures.wikia.com/wiki/Nepeta
Personality: To start of with Nepeta, it's very clear that she's naive. She's seen to be rather cheerful, and caring of others, keeping tabs on relationships to the extent of an immense 'shipping wall'. She tries not to be upset about things- when she is seemingly upset in fact it's almost played off, with a 'noooooooo' and a 'sad face' sufficing to convey it. The lack of a smile is always enough to show that something is wrong with Nepeta; and while she appears to be cheery, it seems that she's actually quite empathetic in that regard.

She takes friends and relations seriously, and prefers 'nice' over 'not nice' to put it simply. Her naivite also stretches to those terms after all; she'll say she's 'scared' of one person, finds another 'creepy', 'really nice', etc etc, but appears to try and make friends at the start of a meeting regardless. Naive as she is however, it is not to the point of stupidity. True, curiosity 'killed the cat', and her impatience makes it so that she's liable to get into a mess one way or another regardless of what her moirail (Equius) or any others ask of her, but she means well. The only time she reacts with something other than kindness or simple fear or sadness is when the fates of someone close to her has been effected, evidenced by that notion of empathy, and even by her mythological role, 'the Rogue of Heart'.

She is a hunter after all- it was required of her to take down prey (Rather... 'purrey') with her 'claws' and teeth after all- and she will use those skills in retaliation if she finds one of her friends has been wrongly harmed.

Nepeta is much like a kitten in a sense; she's playful, childish, and extremely expressionate and affectionate- she greets/calms Equius with a 'friendly pounce' for example (Though as Equius is her moirail, it's not likely she goes quite that far for her other friends). She also has a thing for accuracy- evidenced by her thoughts of recolouring her shipping wall to match Aradia's existence as a robot, though not to the point where her emotions don't put this off; it's clear, particularly during 'Equius: Seek the Highbl00d', that if she's upset about something, she's more likely to put something off; she knows her shipping wall should be updated with the deaths of so many of her friends, but she's too upset about it to do so, and instead chooses not to think about it- Nepeta likes to think about positives. Not negatives- and she likes to make sure that her friends do the same!

As a side note, she also enjoys roleplay, which goes hand in hand with her playful and naive nature. The fact is, in her home, she lived in a cave, hunted and ate animal, wore their fur and painted with their blood (she's quite artistic in that regard, simple as the images are!). She's drawn more than just the shipping chart on her wall, and in terms of roleplay quite clearly enjoys the sessions she has online with Terezi; she doesn't enjoy the 'dangerous' kind of Roleplay ('Flarp', really.) since her friends have 'gotten hurt' that way.

Gotten hurt meaning 'one died, the other was paralyzed, another blinded'... She doesn't specify those sorts of things- 'they got hurt'. That's all that needs to be said- it's already making her sad thinking about it after all.

It's much more important to be having fun otherwise!

Regardless, she enjoys roleplay so much that she occasionally dips into third person, describing specific actions as though she were (and arguably, she IS) roleplaying at that moment.

Tiny relationship note; she has an unrequited love for Karkat (though it's implied he knows and has been avoiding any confrontation that Nepeta may work the courage to make).

Abilities: As a troll, Nepeta's appearance and green blood will obviously be gone. She's fairly 'average' as far as strength and agility limits go however (Though that's among her race, so this could still be argued), so that shouldn't be counted as an ability; what is needed to be regained outside appearance is going to more or less be limited to objects such as her claws, or her hat for that reason. (Though no doubt she'll try and make one from whatever is in Mayfield out of impatience..!!)

It does seem though, however, that she has a keener sense of smell than most, at one point stating that she can 'smell a guy who likes to play games from so fur (far) away with this nose, you have no idea'. So that in itself (smelling 'things' about others) could additionally count as an ability.

Sample Entry: Hey!! Hey hey hey!!

I thought it would be impaaaawsible to get to talk to the humans, but now I'M human too! If I'm human, then I bet that all the others are human too now~! (I wonder what they look like...)

It's hard to pounce on things when you're human though... I can't catch any of my purrey anymore, it's not fun at allllllll!!!

But I bet that if I made some new claws like the ones I used to have, it'll be much easier!~ I just need to find some way to put these knives on these gloves, and then they'll be claws! It's weird not having my claws here already, but everything else is weird too, so I'll just have to find everyone else and do what I can~ 'Cause I bet they're just as confused as I am!!

Well, maybe not~ Heeheee~~

Preferred Housing: No specific preferences, but if she could go in a house with say, a non-droned sibling or parent that would at least somewhat interact with her that would be nice~ I would also appreciate it, however, if she wasn't in Link's house or on his street (Goldberg); she'd probably cling right off the bat, and I'd like her to meet other people before that happens..!! (Maybe someone who can 'relate' to being human-i-fied?)

Character Name: Fi
Character Series: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Character Age: Unknown- appears to be a young girl. Assuming '14' for now. (Technically, Fi is genderless, as Fi is a sword. But, for the sake of things...)
Background: http://zeldawiki.org/Fi
Personality: OOH BOY.

Now the first point that needs to be stated right off is that Fi is, quite bluntly put, the computerized mind of the Master Sword. Her diction is vast, and her choice of words is typically considered advanced or at least unnecessary, using phrases that are clearly 'roboticized' in nature; words such as 'designation' instead of name, for example. Fi supposedly has no emotions, because she cannot experience them. She speaks bluntly, having no sense of tact, or even of timing, simply stating the facts. A fine example can be seen when Link is in the middle of battle, low on health and...

In perfect monotone, states quite blankly, 'Master. You appear to be low on hearts.'

She observes and speaks as an automaton would- which makes sense, that is what she WAS. The closest thing to emotions she gets is happiness; she admits this at the end of the game while saying her goodbyes to Link. Perhaps this is hinting at the fact that she CAN in fact experience emotions, but it's quite unknown. As it is, it'll be assumed it was simulated to fool even herself in the end, with all other emotions ignored and 'un-needed'.

She heavily believes in (being a computer) calculated results. ...However, near the end game, she in fact used 'luck' as a term, showing that she could have been gaining a personality contrary to what is believed of her computer-like existence for reasons unexplained by the game.

But Fi is 'put to rest' soon after this, taking an eternal sleep in the Master Sword; so it cannot be known the extent of this anomaly. She says that certain things 'please her'; but to what extent she was able to feel emotion as a blade is unknown, particularly since she herself states that she does not need emotions; she even refers to her friendship with Link as a 'nessecary companionship'. Her memories are 'data', and considered precious- in the end, it is far more likely that she did not have enough time to understand emotions; she herself seems to address this.

More importantly, she's going to suddenly have all those emotions and emotional triggers in Mayfield- she's going to have a human body, with very human hormones and reactions. She will feel true pain, she will see things that, unlike as a sword and 'computer', will in fact trigger emotional response, because she cannot simply ignore them for the sake of a goal as easily.

For this reason, her 'personality' will be an interesting mix; she'll be blunt, and seemingly uncaring- but she will quite likely feel incredible shame and guilt after realizing something happens as a result of her words, despite not showing it. She'll seem emotionless, or blank- even mildly surprised at all times, but it is more likely a constant state of mild fear and confusion. She won't entirely understand what happens when things happen as a reaction- I have no doubt that, the first time she cries, she will be caught between the emotion causing the reaction and the confusion of all this 'leaking' on her face.

Fi will additionally be more inclined to 'follow and assist' than lead; she was a sword, and a sword with a master and pre-written purpose before. Now, that is gone. She has no clue what to do, what is happening, and what is going on, and that is what she needs.

It is quite likely that she will have a tendency to bottle emotions due to all of the above as well; in an attempt to react as she would have, and to cope with all the memories. For this reason, when the trigger finally snaps, it can be assumed and guaranteed that it will be a horrible mess that she has no clue what to deal with- damn hormones and tears and things...

Regardless. In a nutshell? Blunt, but caring, horribly innocent in her words, and quite likely to work 'step by step' for each moment thanks to no longer having a prewritten history in her mind...

And of course, she'll still speak rather 'computer-like', using percentages to describe certainity among things.

Fi | Zelda; Skyward Sword | Non-reserved (Part 2/2)

[personal profile] windows_hyliaedition 2012-04-06 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Abilities: As the Master Sword, Fi was in possession of a number of abilities, the first and foremost being the memories of a destiny that has already been played out- so she'll retain that at the very least, even if she can no longer fulfill the programming required to pass the information along. Other abilities, not so much. At the base level, becoming one with the Master Sword; even having the sword there is an ability taken, as well as her floating, and likely even her singing. (Dancing can likely stay, though it's not obviously 'the same' without the floating.)

In addition to the base abilities she had as the sword, there is her other purpose- dowsing. Using the blade, she was able to 'dowse' for certain objects. The sword itself was additionally capable of the 'skyward strike', a powerful slash of energy that could be gathered, aimed, and fired- something that, if she becomes the sword again, will be absent.

And of course, she'll be 'humanified' coming in, so things such as her appearance in general would have to be regained as well.

Sample Entry: The sky is bright today. There is a bird outside the window on one of the branches.

If this science book is correct, it is preparing to mate, via various sounds and songs to impress females of its species. The book does not explain any further on how mating occurs however, so I cannot be 100%, or even 80, or 60% certain of that.

It is strange to have arms. It is strange to be able to lift and hold things, and it is strange to be 'human' as they are called. Someone at 'school' as it is called mentioned that certain objects, and even states of being, may be returned after a period of time. Perhaps when that happens, I will no longer have my arms.

However, I do not know what I will do if I become the Master Sword again. It is my duty. It has always been my duty. It is what I was created for.

But I do not understand what my purpose would be any more.

...And now, I do not think it would be good to fall asleep for eternity as I promised I would.

Scott Summers | X-Men Films | Reserved

[personal profile] theredglasses 2012-04-06 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Scott Summers is, first and foremost, a natural born leader. He’s the guy who makes the tough decisions, and knows from experience not to bat an eye if someone complains. He is efficient, and organized, usually always in control. It takes a lot to get under his skin, but when something does... Ooh boy. Scott is incredibly stubborn, someone who, when his mind is made up, cannot be changed in the slightest. To the people who don’t know him, he comes off as stiff, humourless, and distant. More often than not, Scott can be described as an overgrown boyscout, as he will always follow the orders given to him. However, there's no need to think that the stick up Scott's ass is in there too deep. He does have a sense of humour (a very dry one), and even manages to smile (in public) at least once a year. But when the situation calls for it, he is nothing but business.

While he will not admit it out-loud, Scott is extremely protective over the people he loves, with good reason. He knows firsthand how quickly loved ones can slip through your fingers, being orphaned during a traumatizing experience, jumping from one foster home to the next... honestly, the list can go on, but to sum it up: Scott Summers knows a thing or two about the pain of loss.

His over-protectiveness can easily go together with his distant behaviour, mentioned earlier. He's seen too many people he cares about die, and this has led him to keep the new people he gets close to at an arms length. He fears that the minute he gets close to someone, something terrible will happen. The only other people who know of the insecurities are Professor Xavier and Scott's fiancée, Jean.

Scott is incredibly smart. Not freakishly so, but the fact that his is capable of identifying the geography of any area he's in just be giving it a quick sweep over with his eyes says a lot about the guy. He's someone who can have several plans and battle strategies rattling around in his head twenty-four/seven, being able to whip out an idea with a snap of his fingers. So the fact that he's constantly over-analyzing situations could play a part with him being so uptight.

Scott has good instinct, and a strong-moral sense when killing is concerned. But when something drives him over the edge, it's hard to tell how he will react. He isn't afraid of conflict when the moment arises, and there are times where he can be the first one to attack. A good leader and grand master always plans ahead.

Character Name: Superhero Identity: Splitter. Real Name: Floyd Belkin
Character Series: DC Comics
Character Age: 16

Background: http://www.comicvine.com/arm-fall-off-boy/29-57336/ - This is the Legion of Superheroes in the 31st Century continuity version of Floyd.

Personality: If there was one word to sum up Floyd in his entirety it would be optimistic. Growing up he has become accustomed to both shock and mocking based on his ability to detach his limbs from his body, but despite this he hangs on to his ability to see the good in things rather than being weighed down by the bad. Even if someone downright despises Floyd and makes it apparent something within him blocks out the negative aspects behind this and instead leaves Floyd with a simple desire to befriend the person and help them in whatever was possible, this some times leads to others being able to take advantage of Floyd but this does not bother him, as long as the person involved is happy so is Floyd.

From childhood Floyd has idolized heroic people, especially members of the Legion of Superheroes. Having spent most of his life up until this point with the goal of following in their footsteps has led to Floyd have an unquenchable desire to do the right thing even if it puts him out of his way. He will be the first person to volunteer for something such as getting a stuck cat out of a tree or helping an elderly lady with her groceries, the only problem that arises from this attitude is that, while admirable, he sometimes forgets his own limits and will offer to do something he is not necessarily good at, leading to some slight (and often humorous) problems that will also need solving along the way of his task.

Floyd's main Achilles heel comes in the form of his nerves, which sometimes are able to get the better of him. While he can normally maintain his attitude and powers quite well when he starts to become nervous, be it from a dangerous situation, meeting people he idolizes or just meeting a girl he has a fondness for, he looses his ability to hold himself together, both mentally and physically, and will fall apart. He can become tongue tied quite easily and find it hard to get himself back on track on the mental side of this, physically he can literally be bumped into and will have his arms and legs (sometimes both) fall off, leaving him on the floor blushing and looking a little embarrassed for causing a scene. Such an event happened when Floyd received a Legion Flight ring from Phantom Girl and, thanks to nerves, his arm detached and started to float away, leaving Floyd to make his excuses before leaving to retrieve his arm before it got away.

Having grown up on another world, in another time, Floyd is somewhat of a victim to social trends and customs. He will often be caught out by doing something humans would not do, such as being overly touchy feely with someone he had only just met, until it is explained to him how things work, however this is not to say that he will actually ACCEPT these strange customs straight away, but he will slowly learn to stop and assess new situations more carefully. Luckily for Floyd he is an adaptable creature and will not take any bad feeling as he learns from situations that have turned sour, he will just keep trying to do what is right and, even if that is not possible in some cases, will just try to 'kill with kindness' and use his charm and humour to move on.

Overall Floyd is basically a happy go lucky guy who is just a little bit loud and excitable for own good and just needs some time to get used too. While he may annoy others rather easily with his over the top displays it all comes from a good heart and the fact that he wants to enjoy life to the fullest with as many good friends as he can make in life, all the while stopping those who would try turning the world into something dark and sinister for their own gain. He may not be winning any contests for good looks or for being smart but he is the kind of guy who will give you the shirt off his back if it will help you and will always be there for you when you need him, no matter when, where or how long it may take.

Abilities: Floyd has really only one real ability in that he is able to detach his limbs from his body. Be it intentional or by something that has happened (Such and being knocked into) Floyd is able to remove his arms and legs from his torso. He is able to remove one at a time, or all at once, though by trademark he tends to normally just remove one at a time, usually an arm so he can use it with his other attached arm as a club based 'weapon' to stop any villainous people he may encounter.

Other Characters Played: America
Preferred Housing: N/A

Character Name: Minerva McGonagall
Character Series: Harry Potter (with supplemental information from Pottermore)
Character Age: 18
Background: Linky
Personality: Minerva is a definite type-A personality, liking things to be just so and having little tolerance for rulebreaking. She was forced into having such a mindset from an early age, having to conceal her magic and help her younger brothers conceal theirs in order to live peacefully in their father's non-magical community. She's also a very talented, dilligent, and hard-working student, earning top marks and high honours throughout her school career. Though she is clearly naturally gifted, she refuses to take it for granted, and continually pushes herself to be better. At seventeen, not only was she balancing schoolwork (acheiving outstanding grades on her end-of-school exams), head girl duties, and extracurricular sports, she had been nominated "most promising newcomer" by a prominent transfiguration magazine, and mastered the animagus transformation, something achieved by only ten other witches and wizards in the twentieth century.

She also has a very strong sense of justice-- stronger in fact than her desire to uphold the rules, as unjust rules ought to be broken. Though some may see her as overly strait-laced and studious on a day-to-day basis, if somoeone has been wronged, she will go out of her way to stand up for them, whether overtly or subversively, until the wrong is righted. Especially as prefect and later head girl of her school, she feels that it is not only her duty to reprimand students when they misbehave, but also to look out for and watch over them and make sure their needs are met. In Harry Potter canon, she has become Head of Gryffindor House, and while she is very stern with her students, it's also clear that she cares greatly about them, and takes any serious insult or injury to them to be an injury to her own self. One can imagine that she felt the same as a young woman as well.

Of course, Minerva isn't all seriousness and business; she has her fun side too. She has a very sharp, dry sense of humour (which those who aren't well acquainted with her might mistake for seriousness), which comes out especially strongly to lighten up tougher situations. She also plays and is quite an avid fan of quidditch, which is not a sport for the weak of heart. She has a ridiculously fierce desire to see her team win, and will hold game grudges for a very long time. She sustained serious injuries in her final match against her house's rival team, resulting in a desire to see them crushed which lasted well into her old age.

She has a softer side as well, particularly a strong affinity for cats. While she may not always project an outwardly friendly appearance, she does have a strong affection for her housemates and friends, and the bonds she forms are nigh unbreakable. Once a person has earned her trust, it is unwavering, and she will stand by them even in the face of overwhelming adversity.

Abilities: She can do a variety of spells with the use of a wand, and particularly excells at transfiguration spells. She can also transform into a cat at will.

Sample Entry: I thought I would go to the library this afternoon for a bit of light reading, but apparently that was a mistake. The selection here is, quite frankly, appalling. Not that there is anything wrong with cookbooks or sewing patterns in their own right, but to call such a collection a library is a misnomer at best.

Does anyone know where I might be able to find some textbooks? I've been told I'm meant to be teaching here, and I suppose that means I'll have to do a bit of brushing up myself.
feuillu: (Straightup G)

Addendum

[personal profile] feuillu 2012-05-13 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
In many ways, the young Minerva is a model of the woman that she grows to become in the main body of the Harry Potter canon. She proved herself to be a gifted witch from the cradle, summoning her toys after her parents put them away and even commanding the family cat-- an affinity that manifests itself in her animagus form. Upon entering Hogwarts, she immediately took to Transfiguration, and was esteemed as the most outstanding student of her year in general aptitude. She was both a prefect and Head Girl during her tenure, suggesting an aptitude for leadership and discipline that the reader will recognize from her position as Head of Gryffindor and Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts.

On the other hand, while the older McGonagall certainly retained her sharp wit and dry, subtle sense of humour, the younger McGonagall was a spitfire. Her relationship with her first love (a muggle boy by the name of Dougal McGregor) was based largely on they way they challenged each other in sharp-tongued debates, which sometimes got very heated. It would probably surprise Harry and company to know that their strait-laced, austere Professor had not only been married once upon a time, but had actually completely lost her head over a clever muggle boy.

It might also surprise them (although possibly not-- considering the very personal and intense interest she takes in the Gryffindor team's success on the pitch) to know that she was once a quidditch player, and a gifted and fierce one at that. Though she left the sport after her injury in the Slytherin match, her fierce desire to see her opponents crushed on the pitch never left her-- it merely muted a bit.

Character Name: Flonne
Character Series: Disgaea
Character Age: 1512
Background: disgaea.wikia.com/wiki/Flonne

Personality:
Flonne is a firm believer in love; and that isn't even an exaggeration. As a former Angel Trainee, Flonne was raised and influenced by the pure beliefs of the angels that inhabit Celestia, and from her superior, Seraph Lamington. The ideas of finding resolution without conflict and violence involved, being true to your heart and showing kindness to others really sticks with her, and she still holds onto these ideals as a Fallen Angel. Unfortunately, demons from the Netherworld like Laharl and Etna had to learn this the hard way. If she ever comes across someone who appears to be without love in their hearts, Flonne will be determined to show them the light. Even if they adamantly refuse to listen. She isn't afraid to speak her mind if something strikes her as sad, cruel or a completely wrong.

Of course… this doesn’t mean that she is all flowers and sunshine. Flonne is still a person, and just as capable of getting angry or offended like anyone else. Though she would try to keep her feelings in check and try to act with more politeness that most people normally would. She is also very otherworldly, and is still learning about the true nature of demons and humans that she was never thoroughly exposed to while staying in Celestia. This can make her seem very bubbly, since she is honest to a fault and gets easily confused when things go over her head.

Last, but not least -- Flonne idolizes super heroes; especially super heroes with the ability to transform and use their special powers to fight evil. She thinks that they’re really cool, and gets easily revved up at the sight of them. Sometimes, she even pretends to be just like one of them, like when she puts on a costume mask and became “Space Detective Justice Flonne” in order to show Etna the error of her ways as a (complete joke) super hero. Basically, she’s a fangirl. This can also be applied to ninjas, as she pretended to be just like one of them during a poorly planned out assassination mission against the late King Krichevskoy.

Abilities:
As a Fallen Angel, Flonne possesses certain skills that most ordinary humans wouldn't have. On the one hand, there is her healing magic, which she can use to help heal wounds and cure ailments. But on the other, there is her attack magic. Her Holy Arrows spell can send a barrage off heart-shaped arrows raining down on her opponents with damaging results. ...and her final spell, well... It turns her into a gigantic B-grade movie monster, Flonnezilla. Complete with costume, airplanes flying around her on strings and attacking her, and some pretty nasty real fire breath. Luckily, Flonne does not ordinarily like to fight without a good reason, and the latter spell requires a lot of energy to cast. This tends to put a hamper on her physical strength, but she makes up for this weakness through her skill in her staff and magic-wielding abilities. She is also able to use multiple types of weapons to fight with. Though, like with anyone else picking up a weapon for the first time, this can usually yield mixed results.

Her personal strengths lie in her determination to do what she feels is good and true; all in the name of love. If she had to put her life on the line to prove herself, or defend the weak, then Flonne wouldn't be one to hesitate. This aspect also gives her an advantage, since her stubborn nature can often break through the blackest of hearts that are willing to open up to it. Of course this includes Laharl. Her cheerful nature can also be enough to make even being stuck in the Netherworld look a little positive after awhile, perhaps even an educational experience!

Kappa appear very similar to turtles, with green skin and giant shells on their backs. Stories about the behavior of Kappa are very mixed, ranging from mischievous troublemakers to dangerous human-eating monsters, but the main consensus appears to center around the Kappa's curiosity of human society. The Kappa in the Touhou Project appear to be based off of the ones featured in Ryunosuke Akutagawa's novel Kappa. The Kappa have their own society, and said society appears to be prosperous and advanced in technology.

Personality: Nitori is an engineer, with a huge curiosity for how things work. Of course, this curiousity can definitely come off as a obsession. Whenever she finds some strange, manmade technology, she has to take it apart. No exceptions. She even carries a backpack filled with nothing but tools, and has plenty of little odds and ends in her pockets just in case she finds something she likes. She’ll always put everything back together, though whenever she is caught taking apart something without permission she'll always make excuses like "I was improving it!" or "I was making it better!" before ever apologizing. Nitori tends to justify her own interests as a good thing, for everyone involved, and she has no problems putting someone in harm's way if it's in the name of science. The kappa is very intelligent though, and she's a very fast learner.

Of course, while she is very good at technology and building things, Nitori can be very naive and quick to jump to conclusions when it comes to subjects she simply has no experience with. Like humans, especially humans. Humans are tricky, what with their Squishy Wishy Human activities. Of course, Nitori does not see it as this.

All Kappa, Nitori included, are convinced that they are on very good terms with humans. This makes Nitori a bit odd compared to the occupants of Gensokyo, as far as her view of humans is concerned. Nitori does not seem interested in tricking them or doing unruly things to them like many Youkai. In fact, on a couple of occasions Nitori goes out of her way to help them... more or less. Well, if you consider shooting hundreds of bullets at a passing human in order to scare them away as being helpful. Her heart is in the right place.

This may color Nitori as having a very cheery disposition towards humans. While this is the case, mostly, that doesn't mean she treats humans in the same way that, say, the main heroine Reimu treats most Youkai. She actually treats most humans like aliens or interesting animals you see during a safari, the kind that you study from a safe distance with a pair of binoculars. Nitori, as with most Kappa in general, find human behavior to be very odd, and are known to watch them from a distance and run away whenever they are spotted. Nitori finds human behavior especially confusing. She just can't wrap her mind around whenever a human is being flaky, impulsive or simply going with their gut feeling. Such concepts are foreign to her! For example. when Nitori is warning Marisa Kirisame from venturing any further up Youkai Mountain, Marisa remarks that telling her not to keep going makes her want to do it even more. "Doesn't a big "KEEP OUT" sign just make you want to see what's behind it?" She asks. Nitori does not appear to understand what Marisa is getting at. She immediately says, "no, it doesn't, so go home." Most of the time these sorts of Squishy Wishy Human Logic just bounce off of Nitori, and she finds herself utterly confused.

Despite this, Nitori is a nice Kappa. She means very well, but she can be selfish, and she tries to color coat said selfishness rather than being open about it. She can be gravely serious, almost to her own detriment. She is known for blowing things out of proportion and can't tell when someone is joking. At times she will convince herself that there is an actual, huge, important reason as to why something is happening, and by doing so she must find that reason. However, when the tables are turned, Nitori can be downright cryptic and secretive. She won't reveal her reasons for doing things unless someone can slip it out of her, or if it's absolutely necessary. This might have more to do with her shy nature rather than any mistrust, as she is not one for expressing her feelings. Nitori is just a shy little kappa, to both humans and youkai alike, and she has difficulty articulating herself. However, her behavior may cause others to become confused or view her as an oddball...

Which wouldn't be very far from the truth. Since, well, with the little quirks, confusion over human society and her always-serious attitude, she can be considered pretty odd.

Character Name: Naota Nandaba
Character Series: FLCL
Character Age: 12

Background:

One | Two | Three

To summarize, Naota grew up in a fictional Japanese town called Mabase with his older brother, father and grandfather. No canon clues were given regarding the whereabouts of his mother but we can conclude she's been absent from Naota's life for a very long time. It's possible that she is deceased and is permanently out of the picture, perhaps long enough to evade Naota's memory. Otherwise, I'd assume there had been some mention of her at least once. Whether she died or simply left early in Naota's life, the impact of that loss is still present. Already, Naota was missing someone who would have played a major role in his life. But Naota found a role model in his older brother, Tasuku, who was well known and loved by everyone in the community as the star player of the Mabase Martians. Then, he too, stepped out of Naota's life and moved to the US to play major league baseball.

At the start of the series, Naota is living with his father and grandfather above a family owned bakery and it's been roughly a year since the departure of his older brother. Naota spends time regularly visiting Mamimi, a depressed high school girl in love with his brother. Her nickname for Naota is Takkun, a name meant for Tasuku. It's another constant reminder that Naota is hopelessly trapped in the shadow of his older brother. Rather than make plans to leave Mabase, Naota is resigned to the fate of being left behind in a town where nothing amazing ever happens.

Enter Haruko Haruhara, a pink-haired alien who reminds Naota of his brother with her powerful swing. Her arrival turns Naota's world upside-down after opening a portal inside his head called an N.O. channel. A series of bizarre events unfolds as battling robots emerge from the center of his forehead to wreak havoc throughout Mabase. Little did he know it, but Naota was caught in the middle of Haruko's quest to capture a powerful space entity known as Atomsk. Finally, Commander Amarao, leader of a mysterious anti-alien agency, enlightens Naota of Haruko's agenda and warns him not to succumb to her wiles. But in the end, Naota is just a 12 year old boy whose life has suddenly spiraled out of control against his best efforts.

The beginning of Episode 6 is the canon point from which I'll be playing him. By this point Naota will have learned to finally swing the bat in order to prevent a bomb from landing on the city; he'll have experienced rejection from Mamimi and the emergence of a massive, rampaging robot from his head; and the disappearance of Haruko which leaves him feeling the same abandonment he'd felt after his brother left.

Personality:

Naota is a 12 year old boy who has lost important people in his life and, as a result, is obsessed with being as mature and as adult as possible. He doesn't want to need people anymore and he doesn't want to be "that little brother of Tasuku" living in the shadow of his older brother. He wants to be his own person independent of anyone else. While Tasuku makes no appearance in the series, his presence is referenced throughout and his absence leaves a major impact on a number of characters, especially Naota. In Naota's eyes, the concept of "adulthood" means being a hero, self-reliant, adventurous, talented and mature -- all things Tasuku accomplished at or before the age of 18. Naota both adores and resents his brother. He was the person Naota felt closest to and whom he wants to be, but at the same time he's the person to whom Naota can't measure up no matter what he does. It's the fear of his own shortcomings in comparison to Tasuku's accomplishments that prevents Naota from swinging the bat in baseball and from taking other risks. If he can't swing like his brother, he doesn't want to find out and he doesn't want anyone else to know. He doesn't want to know his limits or discover that he's a failure. He's also resentful of Tasuku and of adults in general because Tasuku left the boring town of Mabase for the United States and has very little contact with Naota, who harbors feelings of abandonment and loss. He feels as if he's been forgotten and that makes him feel angry and sad, though he tries never to show it.

Anger and sadness are the two emotions Naota is most familiar with, especially after Haruko leaves without warning at the end of episode 5. Throughout the series, he's rarely seen smiling and is often annoyed with those around him, including his father, Mamimi and Haruko, none of whom act like the adults Naota thinks they should be. He's constantly berating them, telling them to grow up and placing himself in the position of "caretaker". Naota considers himself to be the most mature member of the household and sets himself apart from his perverted father, who is continuously goofing off and/or trying to sleep with Haruko. But when his father succeeds, it makes Naota very jealous and resentful. He's in the awkward position of having grown-up feelings for Haruko while still being seen as just a kid. He also exhibits some signs of depression, often in the melancholic but articulate narrations he gives at the beginning and end of each episode. Example:

"You forget that there’s a world outside. Nothing amazing happens here. And you get used to that, used to a world where everything is ordinary. Every day we spend here is like a whole lifetime of dying slowly.” --Naota

At the begining of the series, Naota is conservative, hates scary things and avoids challenges where he runs the risk of failing. He tries to resist and deny the changes that are happening around him after Haruko's arrival. Even after a pair of robots first emerges from his head, Naota stubbornly holds on to the belief that nothing amazing ever happens in Mabase. However, with time he begins to take more risks and to accept that extraordinary things do happen -- things more extraordinary than his brother, at least until Haruko disappears. Haruko leaves both postive and negative impressions on Naota: on one hand, she's helped him to be less afraid of taking risks, but on the other, he's become overly dependent on her. It isn't until the finale of episode 6 that Naota makes his own decision and finally breaks his dependence on her and his brother.

In spite of his best efforts to be an adult, Naota is still very guilty of being just as childish as the people he berates. After swinging the bat to prevent a baseball-shaped bomb from landing on Mabase, Naota suddenly recieved the recognition he'd always craved and it went straight to his head. He began to act like an overconfident jerk until later that day when he succumbs to humiliation and failure. He's also prone to violent outbursts when frustrated, evident in the way he lashes out at inanimate object with the baseball bat previously owned by his brother. Naota is still dependent on his older brother. Whenever he's in trouble or doesn't think he can do something, Naota calls out the name of his brother which either gives him an extra boost of confidence and/or summons Atomsk, a powerful alien entity with whom he shares a connection through the N.O. channel. It suggests that he still needs an adult to help him when he's afraid. Like many little boys, Naota likes to play shooting games (he's actually pretty good with guns) and prefers to eat or drink sweet foods rather than sour or spicy foods that adults are said to enjoy. Try as he might to put on a stoic facade, Naota feels his emotions strongly and has trouble controling them. For this reason, the N.O. channel in his head suddenly activates whenever he feels an overwhelming emotion. This is perhaps why the N.O. channel requires the mind of a child to successfully activate it.

Abilities:

As an ordinary human boy, Naota has no notable powers or abilities. However, he's remarkably resilient and is able to survive constant onslaughts of physical abuse and attacks without a single broken bone. He has, however, suffered from concussions. I imagine durability is just inherent to the world of FLCL and isn't seen as anything special. The only thing that sets Naota apart from others is his head -- it's apparently the only head that can house an N.O. channel for use as an interdimensional portal. Naota can't control the portal himself though his emotional state affects when it becomes active. Through the portal, Naota gains a connection to Atomsk and is able to summon it under certain circumstances. When Naota calls out his brother's name, it is Atomsk that replies.

Some weekend that was.

[The voice on the other line sounds annoyed. Whatever happened, the details are obviously too embarrassing or too stupid to share. Naota sighs. When he speaks again, his tone is even. Thoughtful.]

I never thought I'd want to leave a place more than Mabase. Even if Mabase existed inside an isolated patch of fog, at least you could leave if you had somewhere to go. There was still a world outside, whether you could see it or not. At first glance, Mayfield is just like Mabase.

But beneath the ordinary surface, it's Hell. It's a place that punishes you just for existing.

It's a real life Endsville, a city where devils hide from the god of black flame. Except, here, there are no gods to offer their blessings and no matter how much you burn -- even if you burn down the entire city, every day, forever -- it'll still be there the very next day. Nothing burns for real. It's an Endsville that can't be stopped or destroyed. The only thing you can destroy here is yourself.

Character Name: Schierke
Character Series: Berserk
Character Age: 10
Background: Schierke at wiki
Personality: The great Witch Flora, face known only by children now grown and old men in this day in age, had a single pupil in her long life. That pupil was Schierke, a young girl whose skills were fostered and nurtured by her Mistress, who was both her lone parental figure and guide into the world of magic. Schierke spent the whole of her life in her Mistress' safe domain, apart from the world of men; as such, she started her journey sheltered and naive to the ways of things beyond her haven. The smell of a city overwhelmed her; the nature of society to disrespect and abuse nature insulted her. The world beyond Flora's little realm of the forest was frightening and barbaric, and the people who lived within it even more so. She couldn't understand them... and the reality that this was 'the world' outside her precious sanctuary. This was the world she was now living in as she fell into step alongside Guts and his companions, leaving the woods behind.

It was her first step away from her childhood and toward growing up, even if it was at such a tender age.

Her Mistress, Flora, met her end at the hands of the White Hawk Griffith's minions -- demons, apostles, who called themselves the 'Band of the Hawk.' She understood that they were not the saviors they claimed to be, even if the world of mortal men might not see as much; their first act in destroying her home by flame and killing her Mistress solidified that even if the prophetic visions she had hadn't reached her. The fact Flora had said Schierke might choose to place her fate alongside those of her new companions was no coincidence; Guts and his comrades (Farnese, Serpico, Casca, Isidro, Puck, and her own fairy, Ivarela) have become her friends and something close to family ever since leaving home with them. The kinship she experiences with Guts has become something of a father/daughter relationship; she feels intensely protective of him and becomes distressed by the heavy burden he often finds himself forced to put on his shoulders by circumstance. It's because of this that they work so closely together; Schierke's abilities allow him to pull him back from the brink of madness and keep him from losing himself when he's under the effect of the enchanted Berserker armor. In return, he's demonstrated a fondness for her that she finds herself hungry for with a lack of parental guidance or affection after losing Flora -- and pride in being his "girl." Helping Guts, getting his approval... it makes her intensely happy.

Though she began her journey stubborn about opening up to the others of her party and almost snob-nosed when it came to the difference between a magic user and those around her, the experiences beside them have opened up both heart and mind. She has started to become humble, though her pride and respect for magic and the world in which she was so expertly taught is immense -- she no longer feels superior or 'above' others for it. That said, her talents and intelligence are considerable and impressive for someone so young -- she has a knack for the art of utilizing magic and what she's been taught, though this acts as a double-edged sword; as her awareness of the situation increases, she wants so badly to help and fix the wrongs she sees around her. In order to do so, she places herself (and, potentially, her comrades) in danger by attempting to over-exert herself. She is extremely driven and serious-minded for a child, but still possesses a child's inability to grasp the entirety of the situation, lacking the foresight of experience necessary to hold her hand when it's best. Yet in the same breath, she possesses a strength of self and a humble, almost self-deprecating side of her that allows her to persevere through the turmoil of her journey as well as maintain a healthy ability to smile despite it. She doesn't think too highly of herself despite the power at her hands -- instead, often berating herself for not being able to do more than she can, or believing she made a mistake that she shouldn't have. A prime example would be the events of Enoch village -- despite saving her new friends and the villagers by summoning aid of a powerful water spirit, she blamed herself for nearly losing herself to the flow of its power contrary to the praise of those she had helped.

Despite her level-headedness and intense training and preparation (though it was cut short by Flora's demise), Schierke is still only a child -- and a sheltered one at that. She is learning about society and people in general through firsthand experience; after spending her childhood surrounded by spirits and magic, fostered by a gentle hand and raised under peaceful sunshine... the outside seems daunting and very rough, hard... frightening in comparison. She has much to learn about human nature, about the way that people function -- about the darker parts of men's hearts and not just through reading about it in books or texts or word of mouth. She is curious and a fast learner, but she's not 'street smart' in the least. Still, even when faced with adversity and what is essentially a brand new world, she doesn't falter. There's no doubt that it effects her -- but she refuses to give up, wanting to stay by Guts' and her friends' sides through it all. Flora had given her the chance to choose where her fate would be tied -- and Schierke has now, surely, chosen it.

To most, she is a polite and well-mannered, educated child, precocious and perhaps a little overzealous; she has a nurturing and caring nature, wanting to help others and make friends, though she is often a little wary of strangers at first. Yet once the bond is created, she is extremely loyal and caring -- a devoted girl who would not hesitate to stand up for a friend in need. That being said, she does tend to take things more serious than the average child her age would, and sometimes becomes flustered by childish things or immature behavior. She is easy to tease and likes to lecture hooligans; this makes for interesting relationships with pranksters. On the flip side, she gets along well most with motherly or fatherly types -- as well as anyone who will treat her respectfully and won't demean her or her beliefs. Anyone with spiritual, magical, or religious inclinations might become good people to speak with as she's quite curious and interested in all of the above -- always wanting to learn more about the world around her.

Abilities: I'll write these out in list format, to make it simple! As a note, there will be a permissions post for anything that effects another character, such as sensing and telepathy.

- Can sense 'Od,' which is essentially the Berserk version of 'life force' that runs through everything (including inanimate objects). Because of how attuned she is, she can sense a person's Od to determine if there is something "off" about them -- meaning she can sense ghosts, demons, fellow magic users, etc -- even if she might not be familiar with their species. (So she might know a person feels strange, but not know what species or oddity they possess.)
- Manipulate Od : this can cause confusion, initiate telepathy, and other little tricks such as hypnosis or, essentially, weak mind control.
- Summon spirits/elementals : Tapping on spirits and elementals that exist in the various layers of reality in existence, Schierke calls upon them to perform various feats according to their alignment -- creating a black fog that acidifies the air when summoning a spirit of darkness, or flooding a village's streets with water when harnessing the power of a water spirit, for example. These take a good chunk of time to prepare, and leave her body vulnerable -- her spirit essentially travels out of her to contact them, which means she is stationary and left chanting until its power is harnessed. If anyone attempts to touch, shake, or jerk her 'awake' from the trance, her soul could be lost forever. It's of note she can only tap into spirits or elementals that exist within proximity to her current physical location -- she can't summon one from far and away, so it's unlikely she'll be able to use this in Mayfield.
- Create wards/barriers/charms : These are generally used in a defensive nature to ward a soul against possession from an outside source, or to keep spirits from passing through/close to a barrier/ward. The creation depends on the size, with bigger barriers requiring more effort and materials.
- Natural medicine : She possesses no magic to heal away injuries or wounds, but is proficient in herbalism and can work with various fauna to create remedies, salves, and other nifties to ease pain or help heal what ails someone.
- Astral projection : Schierke's spirit leaves her body; it can reach into the minds of others, but this is a dangerous instrument and she has only used it with Guts in order to save him from the Berserker armor when his ego was slipping and threatening to be overtaken by its flow.

Sample Entry: [phone.]

[the voice on the line is young -- a young girl's, no older than ten -- her tone polite and perhaps more than a little precocious in the way it carries across a seriousness not common among her age group. (allow her to spoil this effect for you, later.)]

Good-- afternoon.

[a pause... these... electronic devices were very confusing, and even after being in Mayfield a week or two, she was still getting the hang of it. this thing IS on, right...?]

My name is Schierke, and I was apprentice to the Witch of the Sacred Grove, Mistress Flora. [she highly doubts that anyone would recognize the name -- she's been asking about in hopes of stumbling upon a friend from home with no such luck so far.] My Mistress endeavored to teach me about the world, and particularly in the ways of a magic user. But...

[another pause. she sounds a little more uncertain of herself -- the little girl playing at being older than her age is still a child, after all.]

But it seems that 'magic user' defines more than the sort of person I am used to. Since that is the case... [and it is...] I would be extremely grateful if anyone familiar with 'magic' in their own worlds would trouble themselves in speaking with me. It seems that I have much more to learn, and... Mistress Flora would say that I shouldn't turn my eyes away from this chance to see more than I thought possible.

And -- um. [...] One more thing, if I could take another moment of your time... [yes, she definitely sounds much more her age, now. a tentative child asking a question with hope.]

Has anyone heard of a man named Guts? Or -- the 'Black Swordsman?'

[a final pause -- before she's collected herself again.]

Thank you for your help, everyone.

Character Name: Lucifer
Character Series: Shin Megami Tensei
Character Age: Unknown. Debatably from shortly after the dawn of creation. He'll be dragged into town in his child form as his default, which appears 10.
Background: http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Lucifer
Personality:
Lucifer, at his core, is an idealist. There’s a single, motivating factor that guides Lucifer, and in many ways he’s romantic about the notion. That ideal, his alignment if you will, is Chaos. Lucifer believes in a worldview where all people and creatures are their own masters, and all people govern themselves and answer to no higher authority than their own beliefs. Of course, this freedom comes with the cost that you should still take care of who you speak and deal with, as a creature who is stronger than you, of course, has the right to do as he pleases with you if you are unable to defend yourself. There’s no law to stop it: at the very end of the day, might makes right, and the mightier you are, the more in the right you are. That is freedom: a dog eat dog world where all are free to do as they please without the fear of being governed by a higher authority, but must prove they have the right to this freedom through their own shows of strength. Despite being as powerful as he is, and generally being considered the de facto leader of the demonic realm, Lucifer has no love nor concern about personal rulership. After all, being forced to rule something would be a chain, and would deprive him of freedom. He “rules” at the moment solely due to waging his war against God/YHWH, who represents Law and would oppose him.

Lucifer | Shin Megami Tensei | Not Reserved | 2 of 3

[personal profile] firstofthefallen 2012-04-07 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Going along with is love of Chaos, Lucifer has a personality that at times borders on the frivolous when given the chance. Many of Lucifer’s forms are shown to love talking with others and discussing his ideals, often times passionately. Lucifer truly believes in the concept of absolute freedom without restraint, and will deride opinions that would contradict it if given the chance. That being said, he will rarely attack someone outright for their beliefs if they don’t go along with his unless he sees that person as being entirely irreconcilable to his way of thinking. Rather, Lucifer will tend to speak his own ideology, often romantically and grandly, to others to try and influence them to side with him. He will rarely use force to make someone decide to go one way or the other: after all, that would invalidate his own cause of chaos and freedom and make him no better than the creatures of law he so detests. He isn’t, however, above dressing up his own reason for existence and tempting others over to his path. He will give others power and tell them they might forge their own path with it. The catch, of course, is that he most often gives power to those who already find his path and ideology appealing. Lucifer might occasionally give power to someone and simply bank on them coming to accept and aid him or to become a wild card just for shits and giggles, but these are often times rare. In his war with the forces of Law, he can’t allow too many pieces to be at play that could tip things out of his favor.

Despite his ability to be quite amiable and talkative, Lucifer can also be incredibly straightforward when it comes to business. When he has something to say, it will be heard, and you will listen whether you want to or not. He will give you offers and, while he will often allow you to choose not to accept them, it will become clear that you’re often in a situation where refusing his help is the same thing as slitting one’s own throat. Lucifer doesn’t generally believe in outright forcing something on someone, unless they’re aligned enough with Law and thus his enemy, but he will do his best to stack the cards in his favor when he plans to do something. Occasionally, going along with his more serious side, Lucifer will use a direct liaison. For instance, throughout most of his time in his child form, Lucifer had another demon (debatably an extension of himself) appear as an old woman who he would whisper to and then would repeat what Lucifer said to the protagonist. Many times, Lucifer will try and play the role of what he appears as, whether it be a child, a grown man, a woman, or an angel or demon. Lucifer’s forms, and some of the quirks of his behaviors, are incredibly varied and add yet again to his role as an agent and aspect of Chaos.

Lucifer, in the end, is an opportunist and schemer attempting to manipulate the events around him just enough that it can be argued that things fell into place due to the free will of beings other than just himself. While hypocritical in some of the means he employs to getting there, Lucifer truly does believe in the ideal of chaos, and chaos as freedom, and he’ll go to any lengths necessary to achieve it. Including challenging God himself.

Background: Wiki link yeah!

Personality: To put it simply: completely fucking psycho. But that's a bit unfair to Sae. She wasn't always a batshit, bloodstained psychopath. Once upon a time, Sae was (more or less), a regular girl. She grew up in her small village with a life that was always followed by a shadow--the fact that she was a twin. The twins before her, Itsuki and Mutsuki, had failed in their Crimson Sacrifice ritual, and left Yae and her sister Sae in the forefront to "save" the village. Sae is kind at this point, loving her sister dearly and trying to help visitors to her village escape before they too can be sacrificed to become Kusabi. Behind this, there is a darker part to Sae. She fears her and her sister eventually growing apart, and sees the ritual as a way for them to be together forever. She's reluctant to plan their escape, only going along with it because Yae is strongly opposed to the ritual.

When Yae abandons her to escape the village, Sae is left alone and abandoned, and it quickly goes to work at her psyche. Even before she died Sae's mental state was beginning to deteriorate with the abandonment by her sister. Even as she fell further into despair, she never lost hope that her sister would come back for her, and they would be together again. Unfortunately for Sae, Yae returned to late, and the emotional blow that was delivered was crushing to Sae. Despite lacking half the material for the ritual, Sae was made to complete alone. There was a hope within her still that if she could complete it alone, the village would be saved and Yae returned. In her last moments, she was still clinging to the hope that she would be with her sister forever.

After her death, the ritual failed, and darkness was unleashed upon her village, with Sae at the lead. Hatred and betrayal fueled her as she decimated the village, leaving no survivors. Sae as a villain does not operate on cleverness or cunning, and has no need to stay one step ahead of those unfortunate enough to wander into her village. Within her there is something scared, and sad, and on top of that, a whole lot of crazy. Her death, her betrayal, and the bloodbath that followed warped her, making her into something more than malicious. Sae the ghost has no goals except to bring misery to everyone and everything around her.

Abilities: Sae is a ghost! So she has some pretty standard ghost powers: going through walls, disappearing and reappearing, possession, and perhaps less standard, her touch causes bodily harm to anyone she comes in contact with. She also has a creepy as fuck laugh.

Sample Entry: I have a post from when I used to play her here, although it is from a full crazy ghost pov. If you want something more akin to her reacting to being a human, or after some development where she's calmed down some, let me know! :)

Character Name: Tiffany Aching

Character Series: Discworld

Character Age: 16

Background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiffany_Aching

http://wiki.lspace.org/wiki/Tiffany_Aching

She will remember her time in Mayfield and have some of her regains

Personality:

Tiffany Aching is a very determined young woman. If she sets her mind to something she’s going to find a way to do it. As a witch she realizes that to get something done you have to take responsibility for it and not just wait for problems to be solved by themselves or by somebody else. As the youngest daughter in her large family Tiffany was quite good at doing her work quickly and well, so she wasn’t noticed as much as the others. Now that she is the local witch, she has the fear and respect that goes along with it. She however is quite aware of having to earn that respect and fear.

Tiffany is a little odd, as most witches are, and she quite a fondness for words. When she was younger Tiffany read the entire dictionary simply because no one told her you weren’t supposed to. Because of this she knows a great number of strange words even if she doesn’t quite know how to pronounce them. She enjoys using the words when she can, even going so far as to pay special attention to the moon phases just so she could use the word gibbons. She also get’s along well with other people who share her affinity for words. Befriending a guard named Preston who also knows a lot about words.

Tiffany also asks a great many questions about things. This is also due to her first sight and second thoughts as she will often see/think of things that many other people will not. Also because of this she will often have arguments with herself because she does not want to accept the fact that sometimes the real truth isn’t quite as nice as the fake truth people see. In general Tiffany is a serious minded girl and also quite literal. She’s can be kind as well, when the apprentice witch Annagramma Hawkin was having trouble in her new cottage Tiffany, despite all her troubles with the Wintersmith, got some of the other young witches together to help Annagramma out. This was despite the fact that Annagramma had always been quite rude to her in the past.

The reason Tiffany decided she wanted to be a witch is very telling of her personality. An old woman was thrown out of her home and left to die because she was supposedly a witch. Of course this wasn’t true and even though she was only eight Tiffany decided she was going to be a witch so that sort of thing wouldn’t happen again. As the witch of the Chalk, Tiffany has a very strong bond with the hills and sees it as her duty to protect them. She speaks for those with no voices, and helps those who need it.

Tiffany is incredibly proud, a trait that all Discworld witches seem to have. She refuses help taking down the Cunning Man because she knows that if she does take the witches help, she would have failed. She does however take help from the Feegles, but mostly because the Feegles version of help involves it happening whether you want it to or not.

Abilities:

Tiffany is a witch, she has the following powers

-first sight (the ability to see what is really there), second thoughts ('the thoughts you think about the way you think') and third thoughts (the thoughts you think about the way you think about the way you think)
-Borrowing
-Channelling heat
-Magical self concealment
-The residing shadow of a wizard in her mind that translates foreign words for her. (Not a witches power)
-Tiffany is able to hear words that people really want to say but don’t. This is called the spill words.
-She is able to take away pain

Other Characters Played: I play Hajime Aikawa from Kamen Rider Blade with [personal profile] chalicejoker and I’ve just apped Pinkie Pie from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic with [personal profile] party_hard.
Preferred Housing: N/A. Put Ted wherever!

Character Name: Ted Kord
Character Series: DC Comics
Character Age: Ted is in his mid 30s.
Background: Here and here. Beetle’s canon point will be at some point between Formerly Known as the Justice League and Countdown to Infinite Crisis. He ain’t dead yet.

Personality: Ted can be somewhat of a goofball. In his earliest days with the Justice League, he, along with his frequent partner in crime, Booster Gold, caused no end of practical jokes for the team. This included and wasn’t limited to ill-advised financial ventures, such as the ill-fated Club JLI, a casino on the island of Kooey Kooey Kooey. If something went wrong, he and Booster were usually blamed. Ted’s a lot more mature now, and while he has maintained his sense of humor, he’s got a better handle on the proper time and place for things.

Even if he’s just a guy in a bug suit in a universe full of super-powered people, Ted won’t let that stop him from doing what’s right. He’s determined to fight for justice even without any special powers, and he’s spent a great deal of his life honing his skills and his equipment so that he can at least make a stab at standing with the big boys. Ted is a man of science, and science has allowed him to accomplish a great deal. Ted’s quick to get excited over new bits of technology, and he’s also quick to start breaking those down and learning from them.

Ted isn’t one to stop doing what he thinks is right just because it might turn dangerous. He’s also unafraid to stand on his own if that’s what it takes. In one instance, it becomes evident that funds have been stolen from his company, Kord Industries, and that whoever has stolen the money will be using it for nefarious purposes. No one, save for Booster Gold, believes him, but Booster is injured before they can really do much of anything. Ted takes up the investigation alone, eventually coming to confront Maxwell Lord over the theft. He’s exposed a much bigger plan than anyone could have imagined…and he’s ultimately powerless to do much to stop it. Still, Ted never gives up, and his persistence and refusal to give in earns him a bullet to the head. He goes out fighting, and he never once decides to back down.

Ted is very loyal to his friends. Even if they drive him crazy sometimes, the members of the JLI are pretty much his family, and he would do anything for them. They, moreso than any other incarnation of the Justice League, were seen as screwups and failures. The team has formed a bit of a bond over that, and it is not one that is easily broken. If the JLI needs him, he’ll be there…even if meeting up again looks like it’s going to end up in disaster. He allows himself to be swept into the team’s reunion as the “Superbuddies,” even though operating a supergroup out of a strip mall just seems like a really bad idea. He tries a bit too hard to prove he’s matured, which has less-than-ideal results.

In recent years, Ted has moved away from being the Blue Beetle. He’s developed a bit of a heart condition, and so he’s got to watch his physical activity. He also has a bit of a weight problem that he’s constantly fighting, which goes hand-in-hand with the heart condition. At the moment he’ll be pulled from, he’s in good enough shape that he can go out and take action, even if he feels like he might regret it. He’s bad about pointing out the heart condition as a get-out-of-jail card if he’s feeling like a proposed activity (like the Superbuddies) is going to be a bad idea or a waste of his time, but when push comes to shove, he’s right there as the Blue Beetle.

Ted has historically had a way with the ladies. In the past, this has resulted in no end of rejection (and, on one occasion, getting himself turned into a chipmunk by an angry sorceress he wouldn’t marry). Saying the wrong thing at the wrong time seemed to be a special skill of his. As he’s matured, he’s also moved away from youthful expressions of perviness, and consequentially, he’s finding himself getting slapped way less often. He’s actually managed to strike up a good friendship (and maybe more) with Oracle, Barbara Gordon. They started out as online friends, but they soon realized who each other was out in the real world. There’s a mutual attraction there, and Ted’s taking things way more maturely than he might have when he was younger.

Re: Ted Kord | DC Comics | Reserved

[personal profile] beetlemania 2012-04-07 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Abilities: Ted has a genius-level intellect. He is an Olympic-level acrobat, and he is highly proficient with karate and aikido. He also has a great deal of experience with general espionage.

As the Blue Beetle, Ted’s suit is designed to provide him with protection. The suit’s designed to help repel attacks that would kill a normal guy, and it’s also got integrated circuitry that prevent someone from, say, tearing off his mask without his permission. The suit’s integrated circuitry also helps him interface with his ship, the Bug, acting almost as a set of keys.

The Bug is Ted’s pride and joy. It’s a beetle-shaped airship, and it is 80% solar powered. The Bug can operate in the air or in the water, and it is highly versatile. Ted’s constantly upgrading and tinkering with the Bug’s functionality, and it has a wide variety of functions to get him out of just about any trouble he might find himself in.

Blue Beetle is armed with the BB gun, a nonlethal gun that produces flashes of bright light and bursts of compressed air. He also possesses Baby Bugs, small bug-shaped surveillance robots.

Sample Entry:

[A – Phone]

Does anyone here want to collaborate on any scientific projects? Everything I can scrounge out here is so backwards, it’s not even funny. And I know funny.

I’m making a little bit of progress here and there with what we have available, but it’s really slow going. I know there are people here with computers. I can seriously make it worth your while if you let me at one for a few minutes. Please? I think I might be going through technology withdrawals.

[B – John Doe Park]

[So Ted’s managed to create a very small remote-controlled flying version of his ship, the Bug, using materials he’s scrounged around Mayfield, as well as technology he’s borrowed here and there. He’s now taking it out for a test run. Unfortunately, the mini-Bug’s remote control was made out of parts of a cannibalized radio, and those parts are all starting to fail. It’s out of control!

Hey! Watch out!

[Ted’s waving his arms around frantically as the mini-Bug swoops down on its unsuspecting target--you.]

Get down! Get down! Watch your head!

…hey, if you’re alright, would you mind helping me stop this thing?

[He ducks as it takes a dive at his own head.]

Sonic The Hedgehog (Gameverse) | Not Reserved (2/3)

[personal profile] 768mph 2012-04-07 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Sonic is the ultimate free-spirit. He loves nothing better than to just run, explore and find adventure. If he could, he'd run on forever, trying to see everything there is to see, from the biggest cities to the best nature has to offer, to the ultimate thrill ride in the most dangerous spots.

But that might mean missing his friends. Sonic is quite out-going and makes friends rather easily. And while he may need some time apart from them to relax and explore, he's always willing to come back to them, whether it be to hang out, or if they're in trouble.

Sonic is always willing to lend a hand to whoever may need it. Even if it's a simple task, like picking up someone's groceries that've been knocked over, or if they need cheering up. But where he shines is in his determination to help those in real need: he cannot tolerate evil in any form, and will instantly step up to fight it, without hesitation. Any sign of oppression and he will try his absolute best to stamp it out.

Sonic is usually mild-tempered, often joking around with buddies, or taunting opponents during battle. He very rarely gets angry or overly-violent. Those few times usually come from seeing his friends in pain or tears, or when nature is being destroyed for no reason. But despite that, he'll usually retain his joking nature through most conflicts, while at the same time recognizing the seriousness, and striving to overcome it in his own way.

Sonic is at the utmost confident of his abilities at all times. To the point of being quite smug about it as well. Any slight or insult to him is taken rather personally. He's also very akin to showing off, or in the case of being challenged/insulted, will drop everything to prove himself better. But, this can also lead to some overconfidence, making him leap directly into some things that might be over his head.

But despite this bravado, he can also be rather humble at times, playing down compliments, or attributes he sees as being above himself (like being called 'Master' by Shahra the Ring Genie, or as 'The Legendary Hedgehog'). He really does prefer people be non-formal with him.

Being as free-willed as he is, Sonic never lets the past trouble him, instead paying the moment its respects at that moment, and moving on to the next step in his life, only learning and never dwelling.

Going along with that, he's also been known to hide pain and fear. This does feed into his smug attitude. The only times he's openly afraid, is around Amy...when she has her hammer out and is VERY angry with him. Which results in him putting as much distance between them as he can...so she can cool down before stalking him again.

Throughout every battle he's ever been in, and with his multitude of rivals, he's never once shown any kind of anger or ill-will towards any of them...even the constant pain-in-his-butt, Dr. Eggman. In fact, he's always been open to offers of help to and from them.

Sonic is not a ladies man by any means, blushing and stammering when he's hit on, or being outright disgusted by fangirlish stalking. He's only regarded Amy properly when she's acting more reasonable, even agreeing to go out with her only ONCE in the many years of her asking him (though...this might be because there's usually marriage attached to the other attempts). But, like his other friends, he's always willing to help Amy...though there are times he knows she can take care of herself. He's only once seen any regret when it comes to Amy and her tendencies: when he was a Werehog, she didn't recognize him...and he was actually hurt by it.

Sonic is also much more insightful of situations than he lets on. He seems to be the only one to notice that putting Chaos back into the Master Emerald is a bad idea, when it's still enraged at the world. He is often able to bring more sadistic villains down to Earth by relaying surprisingly good commentary on their situation, though he's usually defeated them beforehand.

Sonic's best and oldest friend is Miles 'Tails' Prower. He cares deeply about the two-tailed fox, even sacrificing a race or two to go back and make sure he's OK. Tails in turn grew up seeing Sonic as a role model and was all the better for it, growing into a hero in his own right. To this end, even if Tails is mind-controlled, Sonic will not harm Tails. But, if he sees that the danger is too much, he will shove Tails out of the way and to safety, sometimes to his own determent.

Sonic is not one for staying motionless for long, and in fact, may start acting moody or impatient when he is unable to run, or if something is going VERY slow. This might show that he is quite addicted to his own speed, and that being held captive might be extremely painful to him.

Sonic is very conscious about his physical health, always taking the time to properly stretch before an extended session of running. He'll also make sure to get plenty of sleep, or he'll feel like his running is off.

Sophie | Tales of Graces ƒ | Reserved

[personal profile] flowernamed 2012-04-08 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: A battle-type humanoid capable of independent thought, Sophie, or Protos Heis, is more than just an ordinary humanoid, as she begins to become more and more human in her emotions as the story progresses, and making decisions for herself. Found sleeping in a field of flowers on top on Lhant Hill by Asbel and Hubert seven years ago, Sophie initially has no recollection of anything at all, not even her name, prompting the two kids to wonder if she has amnesia, and for Asbel to give her the name she goes by now- "Sophie", for the sopheria flowers she had seemed to take an interest in. She's curious and clueless about everything, and lacks common sense at first as well, nearly walking off a cliff while following a butterfly.

Despite her lack of memories (and basic life knowledge), she quickly becomes friends with Asbel, and friends with his friends as well, forming a friendship pact with him and Richard, the young prince of Windor, after the three fall down the cliff after thwarting an assassination attempt from Richard's sword instructor. Although Cheria is initially jealous of Sophie at first, she, too, grows to be friends with Sophie, taking on a motherly figure position towards her, and Sophie even heals the other girl during a particularly bad coughing fit.

Sophie is also very protective of her friends, despite Absel wanting to be the one to protect her. When the group of kids goes down into the Barona Catacombs to look for Richard, who had failed to meet them outside, Sophie sacrifices herself to save them from a monster that attacked (and would have otherwise killed them). Seven years later, she appears once again to save Cheria and Asbel, though has no recollection of who they are. Although she later learns her purpose is to destroy Lambda, Sophie still continues to act out of a desire to protect her friends, even though it's noted to be something she wasn't programmed with, back when she was created.

In the beginning, and even before meeting Asbel and the others, Sophie was very detached, only acting according to her programming, and understanding nothing about human emotions. A thousand years ago, the death of a younger researcher that had offered to give her a brooch (as a show of treating her as a human) snaps her out of this, and starting with a younger Asbel, she begins to learn about emotions, even if she doesn't entirely understand them. She becomes curious about everything, asking questions frequently, and thanks to her naivety, is fairly gullible as a result, believing practically anything (such as her pigtails allowing her to fly). Sophie also has a tendency to mimic others, particularly Pascal, and tends to copy whatever the older girl is doing a lot.

Over time, Sophie starts thinking for herself, and becoming more humanlike, though her emotions conflict with each other, when it comes to their friend Richard, who had become possessed by Lambda. She spends a lot of time wondering if she can bring herself to fight her friend, even if he's evil, and while she does come to the decision that she can fight to bring him back to his senses, he critically wounds and blinds her when she attempts to make another friendship pact with him. As noted in the future arc, though, Sophie forgives Richard for this, and even asks him if they can be friends again, once he's back to being himself.

As an ageless humanoid, by the time of the future arc, Sophie has begun to fear everyone dying and leaving her behind, realizing that she will ultimately outlive them. She expresses her wish to have been born as a human, and with Asbel and Cheria as her parents, and even tells Pascal she wants to be a human. Although Asbel can't directly answer her questions about death at first, he does decide to adopt her as his daughter, and she becomes Sophie Lhant, now 'officially' part of his family, though Sophie considers the others to be family as well.

Sophie has a love for crablettes, or crab omlettes, and they're considered to be her favorite food, with Sophie remarking at one point that there should be a National Crablette Day. She also loves flowers, partly due to being named for one, and takes it upon herself to grow a garden in front of Cheria's home, as well as plant sopheria seeds in the garden outside Lhant Manor. Eventually the garden becomes full of sopherias, and Sophie and Asbel, in the end of the main arc, get to watch them turn into a blossomgale.

Mara Jade | Star Wars | Reserved

[personal profile] redhandings 2012-04-08 10:51 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Mara Jade Skywalker is an enigma of a woman. With her past a dark maze of misguided loyalties and manipulated actions, she's always torn between reflecting on what's she done and moving forward into her future. She doesn't like to open up very much about her history, and will usually turn harsh and defensive when others try to pick her mind. Mara is someone who used to thrive on solidarity, a desire she's certainly struggling to move past. She will be more open with those closest to her, but she still prefers to sort through her problems on her own before bringing them up to others.

Brash, with a dry, biting humour, Mara is widely known for her ability to speak her mind to others. She's blunt, straight to the point, and normally won't tip toe around informing others of her annoyances with them. Quick witted and clever, she can talk her way out of nearly any situation, and prides herself upon her ability to gain the information she needs while doing so.

Although reaching the point of Jedi Knighthood has mellowed her out somewhat, Mara still wields a fiery temper when provoked, turning harsh and prickly when her buttons are pushed. Unfortunatly, there are some things that all the meditation in the world can't fix.

Mara is strong willed, and will give her life for her cause. Loyalty and respect is a big thing in her books, something she only doles out a choice number of people, and she frowns upon acts of cowardice. Mara hates to loose, and, when the situation calls upon it, she's able to pull herself back into the cold, distant, calulative state of mind of a master assassin. Very pragmatic, she handles every situation with a level head and cool attitude.

One factor of Mara's personality that even she occasionally has a difficult time believing is her ability to love deeply. She has a very strong bond with her husband, Luke Skywalker, one that's both physical and runs deep within the Force. He's an attatchment, someone she's only just beginning to learn she can't live without. It's something that both deeply terrifies, and fills her with wonder.

[personal profile] uberboned 2012-04-09 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: If you were to compare Gabriel to any animal in the world, it would be a cat- flippant, self-centered, fickle, arrogant, proud, and the kind of creature that would defend you in the same breath that it mocks you and, at the same time, will love you for the rest of its life if you happen to be someone it approves of. He breezes by, uninhibited, and does whatever the hell he wants, whenever he wants to do it. He doesn’t answer to anyone, anymore, and he doesn’t care.

In fact, flippancy is Gabriel's chief weapon, because everything he does requires that element of I don't care to it. Of course, he doesn't care about anything. Why would he have to? What reason does he have to care about anything? You're crazy if you think otherwise. He's a vicious monster, anyway, so clearly caring is beneath him. He's in it for himself and only himself and he'll do a remarkable job of convincing people of that fact- and the worst part of it is that it's mostly true. Gabriel does look out for himself over all, although not in the way that people expect. He wouldn't hesitate to defend his family if he had to and he doesn't run out of a fear of being killed or hurt- rather, he tends to look out for his own emotional well-being. Whatever will keep him happy and content and devoid of negativity, whatever will keep him living the life he chooses- that’s what he tries to preserve by being cowardly. Things he doesn't want to deal with, he simply doesn't deal with. They're pushed under the rug and avoided. He'd rather run that be confronted with the harsh realities and he'd rather have other people fight the hard battles for him. If he doesn’t care, then it means people won’t examine things about him too closely. If he doesn't care, then it means he won't have to deal with being hurt.

He tries not to take anything too seriously- even in dire situations, he keeps on making smarmy comments or cracking jokes. It's as much a defense mechanism as it is anything- if he's being nonchalant and snarky, then obviously he's okay and the situation isn't bothering him, even when it is. Despite that, he won’t sugarcoat anything for anyone and will openly tell you with a smile on his face how boned you are when it comes down to it. He understands how the world works- life isn’t a bowl of cherries, the heroes don’t always win, brothers kill each other, and sometimes you have to do things you don’t want to do, because the alternative is worse- and if he has to accept that, then everyone does. He just accepts it with sarcasm and a sense of humor that veers between vitriolic and good-natured, and maybe everyone else should too- never mind that when he does it, it’s an act. He’s capable of being serious when the situation calls for it, but he doesn’t hold it for very long- just long enough to get the point across. The more desperate a situation, the more he’s likely to remain serious, but he’ll flip-flop back and forth between the two, nevertheless.

His moods are fickle and he treats people roughly the same, no matter what his feelings are- he mentions having a fondness for the Winchesters almost instantly after meeting them, but wastes no time in making them miserable when they refuse to stand down. Later on, Dean questions the fact that he’s trying to save the two boys, when just two months previously he’d wanted them to submit and become Michael and Lucifer’s vessels, and Gabriel just brushes the question off. He doesn’t need to explain himself. He is what he is and if you have to question it, you’ll never know. He defaults to a belligerently cheerful state, always with lighthearted and occasionally vindictive sarcasm, and tends to stay there, unless provoked out of it. And it’s easy to provoke him out of it, but it’s also easy to have him immediately go back to cheerful teasing and playful banter- or, if the situation is more serious, a dark, almost wicked, sense of humor.

In atypical angel fashion, Gabriel is hedonistic to the core. He likes decadence (sweets, especially), human entertainment (in fact, he seems to be a walking pop culture encyclopedia), and has a libido the size of a small third world country. He abuses his abilities as an angel to live the lifestyle of a god and it's not just for show- he genuinely enjoys his lifestyle and has found it to be a comfortable hiding place. He's been in “witness protection” for so long, that this is his life now- not the halo and the Father's messages- but his messages and lessons. And yet, he can drop the act on a dime and pick up being an angel again with no amount of awkwardness- there's no change in his personality, just his presence. There's no way to say where Loki begins and Gabriel ends, but he has no trouble being both. They're both him and there's no illusion or act anymore- if there ever was one. He's likely convinced himself that despite his status as an archangel, that he's as much a god as any of the other pagans. The parts of him that are truly Gabriel, however, have been buried under layers of snark and self-delusion, because dealing with those aspects of himself, means confronting a lot of things he's tried to bury. The Messenger is a long distant memory- there’s just this amalgamation now of god and archangel.

Gabriel has an overwhelming amount of patience, and is relentless and stubborn to a fault to go with it- whatever he wants, he will do anything he can to get, and he won't give up until he knows it’s a hopeless case, and losing irks him to no end, when it comes to that. He kept Sam going for a hundred Tuesdays in a time loop to get him to realize that he couldn't save his brother, even going as far as to force him to live several months without Dean to show him how it would feel. He also kept Sam and Dean imprisoned in TV Land "for days" as Castiel put it to get them to realize that they had no choice but to submit to being Lucifer and Michael's vessels. He might be a showman, prone to histrionics and big elaborate pranks with short-term payoff, but he also knows that good drama takes time- start small and build- and that some lessons are harder to drill in. Despite the fact that he claims that his tricks are all fun and games, there's still a business aspect to it. He tells Sam that "this all stopped being fun months ago," when Sam begs him to bring Dean back during the Mystery Spot ordeal, proving that he could've stopped the game at any time if he was tired of it, but chose not to, because he still had a point to make. His lessons might look funny or eccentric (although often cruelly so), but he custom tailors every one to the person- it's important that these people either get their just desserts or learn something from him. He gets a lot of pleasure out of it, but it doesn't change the fact that it's not all about the fun- there's nuance to it. The Winchesters hunt monsters- well, so does Gabriel. His monsters just happen to be humans, and he won't let anyone tell him that the people he kills and otherwise fucks with don't deserve the fates he bestows on them.

As an archangel, Gabriel is naturally inclined towards dominance without even realizing he is- it’s the one thing about his status he’s never lost. When he walks into a room, he knows he's the most powerful creature in it and people will take heed of that. Take the scene in Hammer of the Gods where he crashes the god meeting, for example- to them, he's a minor deity, but he walks in and talks to everyone in the room like his is the biggest dick there and alpha males his way through the entire conversation. He doesn't need to show off or abuse his powers to prove to people what he can do, because he expects people to already know. When he brings down the pain on someone, that person will have deserved it in some way, either because they were a target or because they needed to be shown that he won't be toyed with. Gabriel doesn't expect to be taken seriously or even respected, but he does expect to be considered the dominant force in the room- the alpha, essentially- because the only thing higher than him are his two older brothers. He doesn't often flaunt his abilities, aside from providing himself with creature comforts- he merely does what's necessary to keep up his appearances as a Trickster and nothing more, although one could argue that his showmanship and his grandiose way of taking victims is flaunting. Gabriel just thinks it's a necessary part of his enjoyment of his job.

Character Name: Mary Batson
Character Age: 16
Background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Marvel#Modified_DC_origin Post "I can't believe it's not the Justice League"

Personality: Mary is nice to everyone. She smiles almost all the time, and she always remembers to use her manners, even when dealing with horrible super villains or terrorists. She has a little bit of a temper, but she always feels sorry after she's unleashed it upon anyone. When caught in hell, Mary marvels her teammates by continuing to use perfect manners. She doesn't like to even stamp her foot in anger. She's a good girl, who believes in treating others the way she would like to be treated, and in not saying anything at all if she doesn't have something nice to say. She's devoted and religious, attending church every Sunday, yet she doesn't pass judgment on anyone. She's kind and accepting of people, regardless of how they treat her. It takes something very horrible to make Mary lose her temper. Despite this, she's still able to become very violent during fights. It's not unlike her to completely decimate monsters and bad guys. She'll just be very polite while she rips their head off.

She's the good, pure girl next door, raised by a nanny in an extremely well off family. "Holey Moley" is the worst thing that passes through her lips. She cares deeply for humanity and animals alike, and hates to have to see anyone suffer for any reason. Mary fights valiantly for justice, and always wants to do more to help people. Sometimes at a loss of what she can do, she expresses mild annoyance when anyone with the ability to help others isn't doing so. She's shown to be incredibly naive and innocent about many things- she doesn't understand why people do bad things. One of her biggest flaws is her sensitivity. Mary does not take well to people being cruel to her, or to others, and she has a very hard time forgiving herself for her own mistakes. Despite all these things, she remains a strong optimist, and believes that everyone has a bit of good inside of them.

Contrary to what you might think from the above though, Mary does have a pretty big ego. Thanks to her powers, she's near invincible when she's powered up, and she knows it. She's not exactly shy about her powers in front of fellow heroes, proudly raising her hand up high when asked "Who's the strongest here?". She may seem like it at first- but Mary's not shy. Her naive personality may hold her back from always understanding people, but she loves to interact with them nonetheless. No matter who you are, where you're from, or what you've done, Mary will always want to be your friend, and Mary will always want to help you. And she's not afraid to tell people this. It's a bit of a joke that while she's graced with the Wisdom of Solomon, she doesn't always use it. She speaks her mind when she wants to- and though she will feel terrible about it afterwords, she will tell someone off if they are treating her or someone else poorly. Mary stands up for people- regardless of if they want it, or not.

Endlessly devoted, when faced with a task, Mary does not stop until the job is done. This devotion carries on over to anything else she does- unfortunately, including things like phone calls. Getting stuck on the phone with Mary is not a good thing, unless you really like baby talk and babbles about the cutest Marvel Bunny ever. She enjoys getting groups of people together to do various different activities, the simple child-like things in life, and flirting with Freddy Freeman. She also enjoys making people happy, and will do whatever the heck they want, or do not want her to do. In Mayfield, she might be mistaken as a drone for all the cookie-baking and complimenting she'll be doing.

Despite what people think from her bubbly, generous exterior personality, Mary has an extremely fragile interior. She cracks easily from mental anguish, and doesn't do well with pressure. She cries a lot, she beats herself up mentally any time she can't save someone, and she has a hard time coping with things in life. In the end, she always manages to pick herself up and move along, but there's a large part of Mary that feels as if it's her duty to protect and save everyone. Failure to do so is extremely painful to her. She's easily swayed by other people, and in the future is even tricked into becoming evil and giving up her powers.
Abilities: Granted magical powers by the wizard Shazam, Mary as Mary Marvel has powers superior to Superman, and supposedly is granted the Wisdom to hold all these powers. The Wisdom part is shown to not actually be all that great. But, Mary's first power is to transform into Mary Marvel. This includes the costume, the slightly taller and significantly more muscular body, the longer hair and the unbreakable fingernails. In this form, she's invincible, bulletproof and strong enough to lift 500 tons. She can fly faster than a speeding bullet, and is granted with most generic powerhouse abilities. She's skilled in both fighting and pie-baking.

Character Name: Old Snake (Real Name: David)
Character Series: Metal Gear Solid
Character Age: 42, though he looks much older
Background: Solid Snake article of the MGS Wiki
Personality: Battle hardened and steel hearted, Snake is the kind of person whose attitude is permanently stuck on serious mode. Pain is something that Snake knows in a great deal, and not once has Snake been shown shedding tears. Military training and over forty years of life have shown Snake the ugliest sides of humanity, so it’s also fair to say that nothing really surprises him anymore. What was once a war loving military man in his prime is now a much more peaceful old man. Still willing to raise up his pistol if the need arises, Snake took heed to the words given to him by his biological father and has chosen to live the remaining days of his life in peace, no longer fighting to assist the world.

Snake is a very hurt and inner conflicted man, having lost many allies to death or to betrayal, and having killed his fair share of people in his time. While his actions have gained him a reputation that could be seen as heroic, Snake condemns himself for his actions and claims that he is nothing more than an ordinary man trying to help the world. Trust isn’t something Snake is willing to hand out to everyone, and hasn’t been ever since the FOXDIE incident with Naomi Hunter. To be more specific, Snake is very wary of needles and injections, which may have developed into a fear of sorts. Due to being a clone of Big Boss, Snake’s aging has advanced at an alarming rate and it is a very touchy subject for him.

Mentioning his age, and the moniker of ‘Old Snake’ have both caused his Psyche gauge to lower, showing that he hates being reminded of his appearance since he is only in his early forties. Don’t get Snake wrong either. Just because he’s a military hardened man doesn’t make him a completely cold and heartless individual. Snake feels a large amount of guilt over the individuals he’s killed, and equally so toward Raiden due to what the Patriots did to him. Snake is also a compassionate kind of guy and while not extremely well versed in pep talks, has been known to kick people out of bad moods and set their minds on the right track, as was the case with Otacon and Raiden.

Another trait to note is how accepting Snake is of his eventual death. Snake is more willing to risk his life for others when the need arises, despite the fact that he aims to live the rest of his life away from warfare. Finally, and a somewhat more comedic side to the great Solid Snake’s personality, Snake is an absolute horrid kind of person when it comes to technology and computers. Frequently he would let Otacon do all of the explaining and technological work, though he did show a small degree of intelligence in this field when operating the Metal Gear Mk. II and Mk. III during Liquid Ocelot’s Insurrection. Overall, Snake is a lot more intelligent and experience ridden nowadays, but has not forgotten the goal of Philanthropy and what Otacon and him spent years of their life fighting for; to let the world be.
Abilities: Snake doesn't have any supernatural or special abilities. What Snake does have is his CQC and gun handling prowess, and other things you can gain through military training. Snake also seems to be oddly durable, though that is never thoroughly explored in canon.

Character Name: Captain Han Solo
Character Series: Star Wars
Character Age: 33
Background: Wookiepedia
Personality: Han Solo has had a really hard life. Things tend to not go well for him. He learned very early on that sticking out his neck for someone else was a good way to get his head lopped off. In theory, he's only looking out for himself. He wants to get paid, he wants to fly his ship, and he wants to keep on living. In practice, though, he has a tendency to care about people, even when it goes against his own interests. Once he's decided he's on someone's side, he's on their side for good. Some smugglers would sell their own grandma to make a quick buck. Han's not that type, though he also doesn't have a grandma to sell that he knows of. If he likes someone, he won't sell them out for any price. He’d probably claim he would. Appearing tough and callous is important to him. But if the opportunity came up, he wouldn't be able to stomach it.

He’s got a lot of qualms for a scoundrel, really. Sure, he'll do what he has to do in order to survive, and he's got no problem killing another sentient in a fight, or even shooting them before they have a chance to shoot him. He's not the sort to kill someone in cold blood, though. In a fair fight, he won’t hesitate, but if a sentient is defenseless, he wouldn't do it. He also cannot abide slavery. He might turn away and ignore it when he feels there's nothing he can do to stop it, but he won't actively participate himself. And there’s only so much he can ignore. Han ended up dishonorably discharged from the military when instead of punishing Chewbacca for not submitting to slavery to the empire, Han stunned his commanding officer and helped Chewbacca to escape. This is also why Chewbacca swore a life debt to Han, and soon the two became fast friends. There’s no one in the galaxy Han trusts more than Chewie.

Though he doesn’t trust easily, he knows who’s loyal to him. He’s been through hell with Luke and Leia, and he’d never for a moment think they’d betray him. Of course, part of that is that they’re very upright, moral people. Not like Lando, who’s also a good friend, but… he did betray Han. The act surprised Han a lot even though he knew Lando was a smuggler and a liar just like Han. They had been friends, and he’d expected better of Lando. Even so, he forgave Lando quickly once Lando defected to the side of the Rebellion. It helped that Lando came to help rescue Han from Jabba’s palace.

Unlike Lando, Leia and Luke are not the usual sort of people he spends time with. They’re idealists, and on first meeting them, Han would never have thought they’d end up being his closest friends. Maybe their idealism rubbed off on him a little. There’s no doubt they’re a big part of why he finally joined up with the rebellion. He feels responsible for Luke in a lot of ways. Though by Return of the Jedi, Luke’s a real Jedi and actually comes to haul Han’s ass out of trouble instead of the other way around, Han thought of Luke as a dumb kid with big ideas who’s likely to get himself killed for a pretty long time. Even then, though, there’s no one he’d rather have on his side.

Leia was pretty infuriating from the start, but that didn’t mean Han didn’t like her. She might have been a stuck-up princess with no sense of fun, but she had fire. She was brave and clever and… well, hot. He spent a long time trying to convince her she liked him to avoid actually admitting he liked her. He’s a badass tough guy. Even if he did care about her, he was too busy playing the scoundrel to actually come out and say it. Besides, he’s had bad luck with women he fell in love with in the past. Going past flirting, even kissing, to actual feelings and admitting them wasn’t something that would happen fast, no matter how confident he acted.

He's very good looking, and his bad boy attitude and lopsided grin can endear him to almost anyone. That being said, when he's in a foul mood, he doesn't do a particularly good job of hiding it. He doesn't ever show it if he's feeling lost or uncomfortable, though, especially in a strange place. No way he's going to admit to being at a disadvantage if he can help it. He'd rather bullshit his way through until he knows what he's doing, and blast his way through when that fails.

Han can be very charming when he wants to be, especially around women. He doesn't really have trouble finding girls to spend his days (or nights) with. He doesn't mind casual relationships, and in fact in many ways sometimes he'd prefer them. They're safer, less likely to get Han hurt. But when he does fall for a girl, he's pretty much willing to go to the end of the world for them. He'd put his own dreams on hold to stay near to them or take care of them. He'll go pretty far for money, but he does recognize that love is more important than cash.

He's an incredibly good liar and cheater, of course. He has to be, as a smuggler. He's also skilled at breaking and entering and stealing, at playing cards, and, of course, flying. He's cocky and completely lacking in false modesty. He knows how good a pilot he is, and he's not afraid to show it. He'll argue any price, even if the original is high enough that he'd be willing to accept it, but he's greedy enough to want more if he can possibly have it. He loves the Millennium Falcon, his ship, and he takes good care of it. Sure, she doesn't look like much, but she's very fast and great for smuggling. He's been through enough that so long as he's still got his ship and his friends, he can recover from anything. And though he may try to stick to his mercenary ways and ignore the right thing if the wrong thing pays more, there's only so much he can look away from, and in the end, he'll stick to what morals he has and to his friends.

Abilities: No magical abilities. He’s just a damn good pilot with a lot of guts.
